- 0:00Hey English learners, welcome to this A1
- 0:03English listening practice video. I hope
- 0:07you're doing well. Today, I'm going to
- 0:10talk about traveling with kids,
- 0:14traveling with children. This is
- 0:17something that is on my mind because I
- 0:21just recently traveled to Europe, first
- 0:26to Greece,
- 0:27and then 2 days in Paris
- 0:30with my family, my wife, and my two
- 0:36children. And my kids are very young. My
- 0:42son is still 4 years old. He's almost 5.
- 0:49And my daughter is 2 years old. They are
- 0:54both very young.
- 0:56And many people
- 0:59decide not to travel a lot when they
- 1:05have young children because it can be
- 1:10complicated.
- 1:11But I did this trip with my kids. It was
- 1:18so much fun.
- 1:20And now,
- 1:22today, I'm going to talk a little bit
- 1:25about the differences between traveling
- 1:30with young children and traveling
- 1:34without young children. Remember that if
- 1:37you want my training to help you listen
- 1:41better and understand native speakers
- 1:44better, then make sure to sign up for my

- 1:49specialized listening training. That
- 1:52link is down below.
- 1:54Okay.
- 1:55Let's talk about traveling with
- 1:59children. Specifically,
- 2:01for me, traveling with young children.
- 2:06Well, the first thing I think of
- 2:10when I think about traveling with
- 2:13children
- 2:14is the flight.
- 2:17Flying to
- 2:19the place where you're going.
- 2:23This can be complicated.
- 2:26Thankfully,
- 2:28the planes that we were on
- 2:32had entertainment.
- 2:35Meaning, they had screens to watch
- 2:40things.
- 2:41When you have this,
- 2:43it's a very big help because
- 2:48children can watch movies and TV shows
- 2:54for hours
- 2:56uh on the plane using these screens.
- 3:00That's what my children did. Uh that's
- 3:05one of the things that they did. So,
- 3:08this really helped.
- 3:11But, also, they slept on the plane.
- 3:16Many times when you travel far with
- 3:21children,
- 3:22they get tired and need to sleep.
- 3:27Sometimes, we need to sleep on the
- 3:30plane.
- 3:31Adults, too.
- 3:32But, my children also fell asleep on the
- 3:37planes.
- 3:38That's also
- 3:40helpful.
- 3:42That takes time, right? And the food is
- 3:46also helpful. They serve you food on the
- 3:50plane, and
- 3:52that's good for kids, usually. So,
- 3:57uh flying can be complicated with kids,
- 4:01but with the entertainment,
- 4:04sleeping, eating,
- 4:07it's possible.
- 4:09It was not very hard for us, thankfully.
- 4:13So, that's one thing.
- 4:15How about packing for the vacation?
- 4:19When you have small children,
- 4:22you need to pack different things that
- 4:27you don't normally pack.
- 4:29You need to pack diapers if you have a
- 4:34small child or a baby.
- 4:37We had to bring diapers. We had to bring
- 4:42a lot of clothes. And
- 4:45kids often
- 4:47get messy, meaning they spill food on
- 4:52their clothes, they have accidents.
- 4:56So, they need
- 4:58a lot of clothes.
- 5:00So, you have to pack differently.
- 5:05Another thing is transportation
- 5:09when you are in the country or the city
- 5:15that you're going to.
- 5:17With small children,
- 5:20it can be a little complicated
- 5:24to take public transportation,
- 5:27uh especially if the children have to
- 5:32stand up on the bus or on the train, the
- 5:37metro.
- 5:39My kids had to do this, and they
- 5:43uh almost fell down
- 5:46on the public transportation,
- 5:49that can be a little hard. Uh we also
- 5:54rented a car
- 5:56in Greece.
- 5:58This makes it easier for kids because
- 6:03you can just drive places.
- 6:06But, you have to rent cars with car
- 6:11seats for the children, right? Uh so,
- 6:15you have to pay extra.
- 6:18Another thing that is uh different when
- 6:23you're traveling with young children
- 6:26is that it's more difficult to take
- 6:30an Uber or other
- 6:33ride-sharing
- 6:35um cars like that because they don't
- 6:40have car seats, usually. So, uh
- 6:44sometimes
- 6:46uh they won't take you. But, you can
- 6:48usually still take a taxi.
- 6:52Uh
- 6:53another thing that is different
- 6:57is uh walking around
- 7:00when you travel
- 7:02uh with kids, you can't walk
- 7:06that far. You can't walk that much
- 7:11because kids
- 7:13don't like walking
- 7:15for very long. They complain.
- 7:20They don't want to walk a lot. So, you
- 7:24can't do many, many things walking
- 7:30around while traveling.
- 7:33You have limits when you're traveling
- 7:37with young children.
- 7:39My kids walked a lot in Greece
- 7:43and in Paris,
- 7:45but my daughter
- 7:47gets tired easily. So, we had to carry
- 7:53her while we walked. Uh my son walked a
- 7:57lot, but he also got tired, too. So, we
- 8:05had to
- 8:06uh be careful and not do too much with
- 8:12the kids because
- 8:14it's very tiring to walk and go up and
- 8:19down stairs.
- 8:21In Greece, there are many many stairs to
- 8:25go up and down. So, that can be hard
- 8:29with kids. That's a little bit
- 8:32different.
- 8:33Also, the things that you decide to do
- 8:38are
- 8:40usually different when you travel with
- 8:43kids because
- 8:45kids don't want to do the same things
- 8:49that you want to do.
- 8:51Kids want to do other things. So,
- 8:55sometimes you have to do what your kids
- 9:00want to do so they can have fun. And
- 9:04then maybe they can do what you want to
- 9:07do. Right? Uh you have to
- 9:10think about your kids and what type of
- 9:15fun activities
- 9:17they want to do, where they want to go.
- 9:22That's another thing you need to think
- 9:24about. And another thing that can be
- 9:28complicated
- 9:30when you travel with young children
- 9:33is when you go to restaurants, Uh
- 9:38depending on the country and the city.
- 9:42Uh
- 9:43in the US,
- 9:45it's very easy in most places
- 9:50to go to restaurants with your children.
- 9:54Uh it's very normal.
- 9:57However, I know that in some countries,
- 10:01some places,
- 10:03it's not very normal to take your young
- 10:08children uh to a nice restaurant,
- 10:12for example. So,
- 10:14it can be a little hard to go to
- 10:19all the restaurants you want to go to if
- 10:23you have little kids.
- 10:26When we were in Europe,
- 10:28at some restaurants, they didn't have
- 10:32chairs for children. And many times, my
- 10:37children were the only children in the
- 10:40restaurant. So,
- 10:42it can be a little complicated when you
- 10:45go to restaurants in other countries
- 10:49with your children, but this depends on
- 10:53the country, like I said. Here in the
- 10:56US,
- 10:58it's not a big problem. It's very easy
- 11:02to go to many different restaurants with
- 11:05your children. They have high chairs,
- 11:08the chairs for babies, little kids.
- 11:13It's
- 11:14very nice. But, in some places, they
- 11:17don't have this. So,
- 11:19those were some of the things that are
- 11:22different when you travel with young
- 11:25children.
- 11:26It can be hard, but I think that it's
- 11:31still a great experience. I had a lot of
- 11:35fun in Europe with my children.
- 11:38Specifically, my son really liked it. I
- 11:43think my daughter did, too. I uh
- 11:47recommend traveling with children if you
- 11:50can. It's a great experience, and your
- 11:55children can remember this when they're
- 11:59older. It's a great family experience.
- 12:04So, uh that's something that you can
- 12:07think about, maybe. I hope you enjoyed
- 12:10this video. If you want to improve your
- 12:13listening and start to understand native
