A locked door stays closed — Transcript

- 0:01A locked door won't open no matter how
- 0:03long you stand in front of it. No matter
- 0:05how badly you want it, no matter how
- 0:06many times you knock, no matter how much
- 0:08you cry, pray, beg, or replay the
- 0:10memories. If it's locked, it's locked.
- 0:12And I think that's one of the hardest
- 0:13lessons God teaches us because sometimes
- 0:15we spend months, sometimes years
- 0:17standing outside doors that were never
- 0:18meant to open again. Old relationships,
- 0:20old friendships, old dreams, old
- 0:21versions of ourselves. We keep checking
- 0:23[music] the handle hoping something
- 0:24changed, hoping they'll text, hoping
- 0:26they'll come back, hoping maybe one day
- 0:28we'll wake up and suddenly the door that
- 0:30God closed will somehow be open again.
- 0:32But a locked door [music] does not
- 0:34become your future just because you
- 0:35refuse to leave it.
- 0:37And while you're standing there staring
- 0:39at what ended, you're missing all the
- 0:41doors God is opening around you.
- 0:43That's the tragedy. Not that the door
- 0:45closed, that that you're so focused on
- 0:47it you can't see what's next. And I know
- 0:50what it's like to stand outside a closed
- 0:51door, to replay conversations, to wonder
- 0:53what I could have done differently, to
- 0:55convince myself that if I waited long
- 0:57enough, tried hard enough, loved enough,
- 0:59something would change. But eventually I
- 1:01had to face the truth. Some doors are
- 1:03locked because there's nothing left for
- 1:04you inside. The lesson is over, the
- 1:06season is over, the relationship is
- 1:08over, and the only thing waiting behind
- 1:10that door is an older version of you
- 1:12that God is trying [music] to move
- 1:13beyond. Because it's not every closed
- 1:15door is rejection, sometimes it's
- 1:17redirection. [music]
- 1:18Sometimes God closes a door because he
- 1:20knows what's on the other side will
- 1:21break you. Sometimes he closes it
- 1:23because he would have something better,
- 1:24and sometimes he closes it simply
- 1:25because your story was never supposed to
- 1:27stay there forever. Faith is walking
- 1:29away before the door opens, trusting God
- 1:31without getting the explanation,
- 1:33believing that if he locked it, there
- 1:35was [music] a reason.
- 1:36So, stop standing outside places that no
- 1:38longer welcome you. Stop knocking on
- 1:40doors that God already closed. Stop
- 1:41exhausting yourself trying to force
- 1:43entry into something that has ended.
- 1:45Because a locked door won't open no
- 1:46matter how long you stand in front of
- 1:48it.
- 1:49But if you have the courage to turn
- 1:50around, you might finally [music] see
- 1:51the door God has been holding open for
- 1:53you the entire time.
