- 0:09Great.
- 0:11Here we go.
- 0:14Potholes. Potholes. Oh, yep. I'm back
- 0:18out.
- 0:20I'm back out on Friday night. Wow.
- 0:24Breakdown truck.
- 0:26Friday night. I don't know what this
- 0:29rear camera is seeing but it's really
- 0:30dark. Hold on. Maybe if I put the light
- 0:33on which might help might not as well.
- 0:36Like it might blur that one out. Um
- 0:40yeah. So it's Friday again. How does
- 0:43this keep happening man? Every blooming
- 0:45week it's Friday.
- 0:48You know when you're busy at work it's
- 0:49quick week. Oh I can't believe it was a
- 0:51week ago that I was down Borough Bridge
- 0:54down at weabs Halifax. I can't believe
- 0:57that was a week ago. Seems like I don't
- 1:00know. It just
- 1:02that week went really fast.
- 1:05But that's good cuz it means it's the
- 1:07weekend and and the weather is looking
- 1:11good. It's looking really good. No wind.
- 1:15What am I like with the wind?
- 1:19No wind today. It's been really nice. I
- 1:22think the temperature got it to about
- 1:2416°.
- 1:26And it's like
- 1:28the 30th of October,
- 1:31Halloween tonight. This is a Halloween
- 1:32weekend special. I've got some um spooky
- 1:37hair.
- 1:39I haven't got anything spooky to be
- 1:41fair.
- 1:43I've got a couple of movies on me laptop
- 1:46to watch.
- 1:48Horror films. Anybody else like me?
- 1:51Horror films from the 1950s. um the
- 1:54Hammer House of Horror with Peter
- 1:55Cushion and Christopher Lee. And I also
- 1:58like the um the old black and white one,
- 2:01you know, the original Frankenstein
- 2:02movie with Boris Caroff as the monster.
- 2:07As the monster I love that film and then
- 2:10there was loads of them, wasn't there
- 2:12like loads of spin-offs where he met the
- 2:13werewolf and all that. Got a bit mad,
- 2:17but yeah, I like them kind of films.
- 2:20horror films, the new ones of today,
- 2:22jump scares, you know, I don't like jump
- 2:25scare movies,
- 2:27you do you do that, you jump out your
- 2:29skin, but that's like
- 2:33anybody could do that in a movie.
- 2:35There's nothing good about that.
- 2:38There's one. It's like the the ones that
- 2:39are in your mind. I like them kind of
- 2:41horror films. Like The Shining was good.
- 2:43Oh, I could talk for hours about horror
- 2:45films.
- 2:47But yeah, Halloween weekend and we're
- 2:49going to the reservoir.
- 2:52All right, [laughter]
- 2:54I'll edit that bit out. We'll do go to
- 2:57the reservoir. The reserve wire just
- 3:01tonight cuz it's late. I'm late. Uh just
- 3:04for somewhere to go, you know, out of
- 3:06the way. Usual crack. And tomorrow I'm
- 3:09going to go to um I'm going to try and
- 3:12go to Allen Banks
- 3:14and Starwood Gorge. Starwood Gorge. I
- 3:18don't know how you say it. It looks
- 3:19wrong.
- 3:21Um there's a nice walk down there.
- 3:24That's National Trust Place up um near
- 3:26Halt Whistle. And I might go in Hall
- 3:28Whistle itself cuz uh yeah, there's
- 3:31something I want to find in Hall
- 3:32Whistle.
- 3:34All will be revealed.
- 3:37So, for now, we're going to go to the
- 3:39reservoir of wire and we'll set up and
- 3:43come back.
- 3:45Usual cracker. It's just it's a formula
- 3:47now. It's like it's a formula.
- 3:50So,
- 3:54well, here we are. Here we are
- 3:58parked up.
- 4:00It's dead still. Quiet, man. Stars are
- 4:05out.
- 4:08There's only a couple of vans here. One,
- 4:10two,
- 4:12three. There's another couple over the
- 4:15other side. And me, little old me.
- 4:19So, more or less set up. I just chuck
- 4:21everything in the front. [snorts]
- 4:23Backpack for tomorrow.
- 4:26Emergency porter toilet. Still haven't
- 4:29used it,
- 4:31which is nuts. Some uh breakfast stuff
- 4:34in there.
- 4:35Not the beer,
- 4:37the little stuff. And then
- 4:40just the standard setup, but
- 4:44soon to be a cover on here. Been to talk
- 4:45to Baz about it. And it sounds like he's
- 4:47going to make a good good job of it.
- 4:49Like with some mood lights underneath.
- 4:53Got the uh the old air fryer
- 4:57and some chicken tenders.
- 5:01I bought
- 5:04some chips.
- 5:06Had them before. They're quite nice.
- 5:09So, I'm going to have a beer. Got a
- 5:10face.
- 5:14Them
- 5:15refreshing drink for the morning. And a
- 5:18couple of frappuccinos.
- 5:23Scapalino.
- 5:25A frappuccino and a scapalino.
- 5:29So,
- 5:30I'll put that away and I'm going to get
- 5:31a beer out.
- 5:33So, that's it.
- 5:37I'm not going to do much more filming.
- 5:39[clears throat]
- 5:40Just
- 5:42nearly ready then.
- 5:44Taking hedges.
- 5:47All right. And got myself a spat layer.
- 5:49Look. Oh, that's good, man. It's good
- 5:52one. That nice silicone.
- 5:56Can't wait to flip a few eggs in that.
- 5:59which I haven't got, but I'll get some.
- 6:01It's there. It's in there.
- 6:05Um,
- 6:08second can.
- 6:11It's about it. So, we'll come back when
- 6:14I get all this all this put away and uh
- 6:19the bed out and I'm going to
- 6:21[clears throat] make it cozy and settle
- 6:23down and watch me horror film cuz it's
- 6:25spooky out there. Like spooky.
- 6:28Spooky.
- 6:30We have some dusty Springfield.
- 6:34Look at what's that shadow on it. What's
- 6:36that shadow? See it? It appears. It just
- 6:40appears.
- 6:44There's nothing there. There's nothing
- 6:45here. What the hell?
- 6:48Come gam.
- 6:50Well, what an effort. That's it.
- 6:56because I can't be bothered. You know,
- 6:57I'm really tired for I've been working
- 6:59all day and that's my excuse. I've got a
- 7:02Halloween beer,
- 7:04Halloween colors, orange and blackish
- 7:07blackish.
- 7:09Got me Halloween chopping board.
- 7:12My Halloween blue plate,
- 7:15my Halloween air fryer,
- 7:17and me Halloween racket of death are
- 7:19still using this. There still things
- 7:20coming in. Wishing they hadn't.
- 7:25do. Right. I'm going to have this
- 7:29and then I'm going to
- 7:32sort everything out. Right. All then.
- 7:34Why?
- 7:36I'm in. I'm in. I'm in my bed.
- 7:41What cause? I got to put the heater on
- 7:43in a second. It's a little bit chilly.
- 7:45Like what's the temperature?
- 7:489°. O. Definitely put the heater on. Not
- 7:52for too long though as it gets
- 7:54ridiculously hot very quickly. It's good
- 7:56heater I like. In fact, here we go.
- 7:59Right. So, you press that heating comes
- 8:02up. Temperature mode. Let's get it at 21
- 8:08and that's it. And that will come on.
- 8:11You hear it just starting up there.
- 8:13[snorts]
- 8:15It takes a little while to come on, but
- 8:16it's just cuz it's priming itself.
- 8:20But when it's on. Oh, it's on.
- 8:23Oh, it's on.
- 8:25So, yeah, we're watching this movie
- 8:27here, which is called Dr. Sleep,
- 8:33and it's the followup to The Shining, no
- 8:37less.
- 8:39So, Red Ram, Red Ram,
- 8:43Dr. Sleep. Very good. Doctor Sleep.
- 8:48It's very scary. I don't know if I've
- 8:49seen it before or not. I can't remember.
- 8:52I think I might have. Anyway, so I'm
- 8:54going to watch that. Couple of beers,
- 8:57probably fall asleep.
- 8:59So,
- 9:02we'll see you
- 9:04you
- 9:07in the morning.
- 9:11Happy Halloween.
- 9:20Christ, I'm dying.
- 9:23All right, then. It is the morning
- 9:28and I'm just making his second cup of
- 9:30coffee. Just been talking to two lads
- 9:33there. There's a Jimmy. Jimmy down
- 9:34there. Hello, Jimmy. Nice to meet you. I
- 9:36I don't always reply to comments. I know
- 9:38what you're saying. They get lost. They
- 9:40get lost in the ether, you know.
- 9:44That's the problem with the comments.
- 9:46The comments section gets very very
- 9:50busy
- 9:52and you lose track cuz YouTube's unique
- 9:55way of delivering
- 9:57content.
- 10:02I was in your comment from like a week
- 10:04ago
- 10:07pushed right back down off me screen. So
- 10:10I can't really can't really see it.
- 10:12Anyway, [clears throat] enough of that.
- 10:16And he is in the white van.
- 10:19Not all that through there. Didn't give
- 10:21you a name.
- 10:22But look at the water level. Oh, it's
- 10:24really low still. Thought it would have
- 10:27filled up a bit. Had a bit of rain. Wow,
- 10:30it is really low.
- 10:32I think
- 10:34[snorts]
- 10:35Stevie Yi, I think that might be lower.
- 10:38Lowest I've ever seen it.
- 10:41Dieards are still out there fishing.
- 10:45So, we're going to move on
- 10:47[clears throat]
- 10:47from this lovely spot. Had a nice night.
- 10:50That film was mad. Doctor's sleep. So,
- 10:53it's you and McGregor. Watch the um the
- 10:56director's cut version of it. I think
- 10:59I've seen it before, right? But there
- 11:00was loads of bits that I hadn't seen.
- 11:03Was quite spooky.
- 11:05Got another one to watch tonight for
- 11:07Halloween. It is Halloween now. I was
- 11:10too sharp last night.
- 11:13I can have me coffee and a nice maple
- 11:16and pecan
- 11:18little special.
- 11:20Hopefully them with a black coffee goes
- 11:24really well.
- 11:26So yeah, we'll come back at the next
- 11:29stop
- 11:31[snorts]
- 11:31because I'm just going to be driving
- 11:32just driving the normal road through the
- 11:35through the countryside that way
- 11:38to the next place.
- 11:56Busy
- 11:58Brazil.
- 12:00Let's go,
- 12:02which is the hardest one.
- 12:05We do the orange
- 12:08cuz we're hard. I got very high very
- 12:12quickly.
- 12:14There's the
- 12:16the river star
- 12:19or river Allen.
- 12:21Don't know what river it is. Look at
- 12:22this tree. Look at this.
- 12:28Amazing.
- 12:32It's an old tree that
- 12:36knobbly
- 12:38huge.
- 12:41I think it's a beach tree.
- 12:43There's evidence of squirrel activity.
- 12:47Lot of beach nuts.
- 12:49If you can get them before the
- 12:50squirrels, they're nice.
- 12:53You got to dig right inside them to get
- 12:54the nut, though. [snorts] Right.
- 13:00Was busy down there, but not so bad
- 13:03here. So, I'm on the orange route, which
- 13:06is meant to be the toughest route.
- 13:09It's cuz I'm hard
- 13:12hard. I bet you I've got to get off to
- 13:14the right. That's why I'm breathing
- 13:15heavily. There's a whole pill.
- 13:19Don't know what happens. I don't know if
- 13:20you go on a loop or not. Oh no. You go
- 13:23to the left. Keep left.
- 13:27[snorts] It's telling you here.
- 13:30Look left. Pick up your dog right. And
- 13:32then just leave it.
- 13:36If you do that, and I see you do that,
- 13:39I'll wrap it around your face, right?
- 13:42And I'm not joking. I hate people who do
- 13:44that. Pick up your dog shite and take it
- 13:47away. You don't just leave it there.
- 13:54Right,
- 13:55that's me rant. I hopefully that's the
- 13:57only rant
- 14:01justified, I think. So, if you come off
- 14:03the ultra busy path
- 14:06and down here, just get down the river's
- 14:08edge.
- 14:10Probably not be able to do this in a
- 14:11couple of weeks once the rain comes.
- 14:16Some swans there.
- 14:19Thought of swans. This is uh
- 14:23I think it is called the river Allen.
- 14:25I'll have to check. It's quite deep.
- 14:28It's deep there.
- 14:30It is.
- 14:32So yeah, just be careful.
- 14:37Easy fall in my leg.
- 14:40There's loads of people around there
- 14:41sitting in the bank having a picnic cuz
- 14:43it's a nice waterfall.
- 14:46So we'll get going again. Oh yeah, look
- 14:50at this. Trees are amazing here.
- 14:53God
- 14:57Harry Potter comes flying out.
- 15:01It's huge.
- 15:04Huge.
- 15:09Think it's a beach tree. What's this?
- 15:14Beach leaf.
- 15:16Think so. Any idea? Probably not.
- 15:24We continue. I'm not even a mile in and
- 15:27it's amazing.
- 15:35It's climbing again. Look at this place
- 15:38though. There's a mix of Douglas furs,
- 15:41beach tree, there's oaks,
- 15:45there sycamars.
- 15:47Don't mention sycamar around here.
- 15:50Ah, there's hills.
- 15:52I want to be down by the river.
- 15:58[sighs]
- 16:01A little rest here.
- 16:08So, what's happened is I've made a a boo
- 16:11boo cuz there's the orange path. It's
- 16:15the orange path which goes back there.
- 16:18So, they said that was a strenuous walk
- 16:20which which it was to be fair coming up
- 16:22this hill. But I want the brown walk. I
- 16:25want the brown path. I've just had a
- 16:26look online. I [snorts] got signal up
- 16:29here. There's no signal down there, but
- 16:32I want the brown walk,
- 16:34which takes you to Planky Mill. So, I've
- 16:35got to go all the way back down. I've
- 16:38just sweated to come up 140 BPM.
- 16:42[snorts] Coming up in the orange zone,
- 16:45not the red.
- 16:49So, I've got to go on the way back down.
- 16:50That's all right. It's good exercise.
- 16:55And then we'll follow the brown arrows
- 16:57for the brown route. And [snorts] then
- 16:59from Panky Mill from Planky Mill, it
- 17:02should be a green route which is extra
- 17:07bit extra. I think that takes you to the
- 17:09gorge, don't know. We'll find out.
- 17:19It's flipping hard coming up here.
- 17:25Nice.
- 17:44All right.
- 17:52This used to be an old rickety rope
- 17:55swing bridge
- 17:58years ago when I first came here years
- 18:02and years ago.
- 18:04Now it's all been built up
- 18:10here. Get away.
- 18:16Yeah.
- 18:18The old planky mill rope swing bridge is
- 18:21no more.
- 18:23That's planky mill over there.
- 18:26Go across there. Have a wonder. See if
- 18:28you can find the green path.
- 18:55the remains of the old farmhouse.
- 18:58This really used to like a camp. It's a
- 19:01camping field there for years. There was
- 19:03some mad nights there though. And of
- 19:06course, it got ruined by crazy people,
- 19:11me being one of them.
- 19:13>> [snorts]
- 19:16>> Man, they used to come in all caravans
- 19:18and everything.
- 19:20Come back at mill trouble at mill. So
- 19:24many years ago. Many years ago. I go
- 19:28back nearly 19 years when I last came.
- 19:3019 years. But before that,
- 19:34we come quite regular. This is the road
- 19:37you come down.
- 19:39Come down that road.
- 19:41You drive into the field there.
- 19:44Picture a tent there. Whatever.
- 19:46There's a few people over there.
- 19:49This is the old mill. Old farm
- 19:54where poor old Walter used to live.
- 19:57Got evicted.
- 20:02He used to let you camp here, Walter.
- 20:05and he was wrongly accused [snorts] of
- 20:08chopping the sycamore gap tree down.
- 20:11This is the farm where he's from.
- 20:14Can you imagine?
- 20:18I mean, he's got axes and chainsaws in
- 20:20the outhouse.
- 20:24He had a axe to grind literally against
- 20:27the establishment who evicted him. Prime
- 20:30suspect, but no, it wasn't him.
- 20:36It wasn't him. Wasn't me. Some shy.
- 20:43There we go.
- 20:46Oh, the old fan house is all a bit uh
- 20:51knackered. [snorts]
- 20:56Can't get in. But there used to be like
- 21:00toilets and showers and everything here.
- 21:03See if I can find them.
- 21:05It's sad to see it like this. Honestly,
- 21:08some good nights here. [snorts] It was
- 21:11rowdy, but it was good. Good crack.
- 21:15Hello,
- 21:17Mr. Potter.
- 21:21No,
- 21:24I'm some urban explorer.
- 21:29The deck chair,
- 21:31[snorts] as you would expect.
- 21:34Here's the What's this?
- 21:39A fridge freezer.
- 21:42Seen better days.
- 21:44[snorts]
- 21:46Who
- 21:47daddy?
- 21:49You come here and wear good boots.
- 21:53It's a bit uneven
- 21:55and slippy.
- 21:57Oh, look. We can go in.
- 22:02Washing machine.
- 22:04Looks like it works. [snorts]
- 22:08Please do not try to move this door. It
- 22:09is set. Thanks.
- 22:16Hold on.
- 22:18The old the old living room.
- 22:21[snorts] The old cupboard under the
- 22:22stairs. What's in there? Halloween
- 22:25surprise.
- 22:29I'm going to kill you, Harry.
- 22:38Seen better days.
- 22:40Quite sad. Imagine living here though.
- 22:44It's your view.
- 22:47Look at all the flies. Oh, it's like
- 22:49something out of the Amitville.
- 22:50[clears throat]
- 22:52Jeez.
- 22:53I'll hear a voice in a minute. Get out.
- 23:03I'm a bit uh
- 23:06trepidacious.
- 23:15to do her upper leg.
- 23:18Bit of ana b.
- 23:23Wow.
- 23:28[snorts] This is the book. Nope. It's
- 23:31not looking there.
- 23:36This is the This is the kids bedroom.
- 23:40[sighs]
- 23:41Bit of paint. All right.
- 23:51Got to be careful. Stairs could just
- 23:53give way and I don't know what I'm
- 23:54doing. [snorts] Probably not meant to
- 23:56come in here.
- 23:59But we're in.
- 24:03This must be the lounge
- 24:06living room.
- 24:10This
- 24:13just
- 24:15it's under the stairs. Cupboard under
- 24:16the stairs.
- 24:18That
- 24:20probably worth a few quit. That [snorts]
- 24:23come screw driver.
- 24:26All right, that's the urban explorer of
- 24:28the old mill farm
- 24:34complete.
- 24:35Let's continue. See if we can find this
- 24:37gorge.
- 24:40Oh, it's stuck. I left the camera all
- 24:41the way back around.
- 24:46Yeah, good. So, back out on the um by
- 24:50the river. So,
- 24:53basically,
- 24:55the last time I stayed here in tent, it
- 24:56was probably here. Probably pitched
- 24:58here. Now, it's a public footpath.
- 25:01Can't believe they used to have tents
- 25:02and caravans and everything here. It's
- 25:04mad.
- 25:06Yeah. Um the owners shut the place down
- 25:09and turfed him out. I think they like
- 25:13belong to the church or something and
- 25:14they didn't like the way he was running
- 25:16it cuz all the camping carry on. I mean
- 25:19used to just come here and have a
- 25:20massive pissup like
- 25:24me mate Dave came
- 25:26turn up and had a there's a rope swing
- 25:28along here. I was swinging into the
- 25:31water. God was years ago. How long?
- 25:36Swinging on the rope. Swing into the
- 25:38water. Sploosh. Splash down. It's mint.
- 25:42It's probably around about here.
- 25:46Might have been around about here
- 25:47somewhere. It's deep enough to fall
- 25:49into, isn't it?
- 25:52Dragging yourself out. [snorts]
- 25:55All right, we'll continue to the gorge.
- 25:57You come across that. Oh, I'm
- 26:00sad. I'm sad.
- 26:01Some good nights here. Also had some
- 26:04pretty poor nights as well. Like so.
- 26:07Yeah. 50/50.
- 26:13[snorts]
- 26:18Oh,
- 26:20tree roots. Watch out for tree roots.
- 26:27Just take it in.
- 26:38and breathe.
- 26:42Amazing. Never been this far along
- 26:45before.
- 26:46Never got this far.
- 26:50So, this is a new bit.
- 26:54Now, I don't know. I could be wrong,
- 26:58but is this the gorge?
- 27:03It's nice, isn't it? It's nice. Tell you
- 27:06what, a little paddle board and just
- 27:08have a fluke around there. Probably deep
- 27:10enough in the middle.
- 27:12Yeah, look at it.
- 27:14Just come down and watch when you're
- 27:16walking on. These rocks are dead,
- 27:17slippy, greasy. You know, even with your
- 27:20prop on mountain boots, I'm skidding.
- 27:25Yeah, nice.
- 27:32Absolute sh right back at two goes.
- 27:37I get two shots.
- 27:44Not much better. Like I've lost it. It's
- 27:46hard cuz I can't uh I can't position
- 27:50myself properly. I'm holding the camera.
- 27:52There's another bit of skimm and walk
- 27:56here.
- 27:57This is going to go for miles, miles
- 28:02two.
- 28:06Ah, I've just broke into a million
- 28:08pieces this one.
- 28:12No, I've lost me here.
- 28:17Look at this tree. Another one of these
- 28:19um what you call it?
- 28:21Spooky hollow
- 28:23tree with a horseman that comes out.
- 28:26Look at that.
- 28:28It's cobweb right in the face.
- 28:32Sleepy hollow. That was it.
- 28:36It's amazing. The hell that's still
- 28:38standing.
- 28:40Wait, it's so melting. John,
- 28:42[laughter]
- 28:44the jocks keep coming.
- 28:46Oh man.
- 28:49I mean,
- 28:52it's nuts and nuts. I think it's just
- 28:53here.
- 28:55What a massive gorge.
- 28:58Did you know this was here? Did you? If
- 29:02you're from the tomb, you'll know.
- 29:05Everybody comes here.
- 29:07But not me.
- 29:10It's my first visit. I think this opens
- 29:12up around here. Come back.
- 29:16There you go.
- 29:17I think this is the the gorge of the
- 29:22star gorge. No idea.
- 29:28There's me
- 29:30t-shirt. It's November tomorrow.
- 30:00So, we've reached the final destination.
- 30:04Don't say that. Not when there's a drop
- 30:06like that over the side.
- 30:10Why if I fall,
- 30:12we'll know about it. This is Starwood
- 30:16Peel
- 30:17built in 1316
- 30:21which is quarter 1
- 30:24and demolished by 1856
- 30:285 to 7. They had knocked down already.
- 30:33We'll go over there and try and get a
- 30:34good view of it and then I need a break.
- 30:38Well, climb up. The walk up is mad the
- 30:43way I came.
- 30:45Be prepared.
- 30:47What a place just to find in the middle
- 30:48of nowhere though.
- 30:51Good. Just wondering if this is part of
- 30:53it as well. Must have been massive.
- 30:56There's no pictures. I'll see if I can
- 30:58find a picture online.
- 31:03Walls left now.
- 31:08Oh, there's a picture there. Oh yeah, it
- 31:10was huge.
- 31:12Would you attack a stronghold like this?
- 31:15Hi.
- 31:17Where's the stone gone? Quart 4, King
- 31:21James granted the property to Lord
- 31:22Howard Dewalden
- 31:25who used the stone from it to build a
- 31:26more comfortable house at Starwood
- 31:28Manor. Well, you would, wouldn't you?
- 31:31[sighs and gasps]
- 31:32There's a border stronghold
- 31:35and then it became a place of quiet
- 31:36prayer for hermit crabs from the priaryy
- 31:41stayed in church hands until Henry VII
- 31:44dissolution of the monsters. Henry VII
- 31:46again man he's a bad man
- 31:49star or store or Anglo-Saxon words
- 31:52meaning in a fenced or enclosed place
- 31:55while earth or mean peel however is
- 31:58celtic it means stronghold so star ward
- 32:03starworth I don't know
- 32:07good again it was for the invasion of
- 32:11the scots you stop invading
- 32:14we come to you. We come to you. But
- 32:18yeah, that was originally built in
- 32:20quarters one 1316.
- 32:22Amazing.
- 32:24All right. Well, I'm going to have a
- 32:26coffee now. Just a a frozen coffee
- 32:30or a iced coffee even.
- 32:33And then I'm going to head back. Done
- 32:34like 3 and miles.
- 32:373.16 miles. Took us an hour and 40
- 32:40minutes to do that. There's a lot of
- 32:41mucking about though.
- 32:44probably climb up there if I was a bit
- 32:45younger
- 32:47and then stand up there like Tarzan,
- 32:52but I'm not going to, right? I'm going
- 32:54to have a coffee
- 32:57and then go back down that path of doom
- 33:01and just make your way back really just
- 33:03back at uh Planky Mill
- 33:07and this this right I remember it now.
- 33:08Used to be the old bridge. This was the
- 33:11old bridge I used to It's like a rope
- 33:14bridge went across. It was right
- 33:16sketchy.
- 33:18It was mad. Used to go across the other
- 33:20side there like a rope bridge. It was
- 33:24terrifying.
- 33:26And then it got washed away in a great
- 33:28storm and flood.
- 33:30Plenty more. I've got so many memories
- 33:32of this place
- 33:34from I'm going back 40 years, you know.
- 33:3840. Maybe it's longer.
- 33:41Used to come with my brother-in-law.
- 33:44Anyway, it's enough of that.
- 33:48Back to the future.
- 33:53So, Star Ward Peel is a mile that way.
- 33:56That's where I was. It's a mile and then
- 33:59the car parks a mile and a quarter back.
- 34:01So, a round trip there of about 5 and 1
- 34:04half mile. I did about six. Oh, well
- 34:07they've done cuz I did a lot of
- 34:10exploring around
- 34:13the old swing bridge, the old rope
- 34:15bridge. Nuts. And they built this.
- 34:20Right, we'll come back at the car park,
- 34:21I think.
- 34:24[sighs]
- 34:25Well, I'm back at the car park and let
- 34:29me tell you, right, that car park is a
- 34:31nightmare. Do not go in the overflow.
- 34:35>> [snorts]
- 34:35>> Don't go in the overflow car park. Just
- 34:37don't do it. And I'll tell you why. Cuz
- 34:40I've just got stuck in there in the mud.
- 34:43All the mud falling off the van there.
- 34:45Now my wheels are caked. The van's
- 34:47covered. I'm going to have to jet wash
- 34:48this. Like [snorts] I got stuck in the
- 34:51mud. I couldn't get out. It was on a
- 34:52hill like that and it was so muddy and I
- 34:55looked when I parked. I thought I don't
- 34:57know if I'm doing the right thing here.
- 34:58it any place I could park.
- 35:02I was there ages trying to get it out.
- 35:04Rocking it wouldn't come out. Just
- 35:07burying itself deeper.
- 35:09And then this kind couple approached and
- 35:12he said, "Do you want a hand?" I'm like,
- 35:13"Well, we'll be good." Yeah.
- 35:17And uh his last got in the van and drove
- 35:20it and me and him pushed it from the
- 35:22back. We got it so far. We did move it
- 35:25with my power obviously. My power power
- 35:30and um
- 35:32and then
- 35:34I'm not sure what I'm getting here.
- 35:37And then some other guy came around the
- 35:38corner. Young lad looked fit. [snorts]
- 35:41Roped him in, pushed it out, got it out
- 35:43onto the flat. Oh man, I tell you what a
- 35:46job. A heavy van this. You find out how
- 35:50heavy it is when you got to push the
- 35:51thing.
- 35:55All right. So, I'm stuck in the mud.
- 35:57That was exciting. Back there. I forgot
- 35:59to film a bit where the dog jumped in
- 36:01the um jumped in the river. Couldn't get
- 36:03out. There all sorts going on here.
- 36:06Oh, man. Oh, but at least the weather's
- 36:09nice.
- 36:11I put the wrong specs on.
- 36:14At least the weather's nice. Nice still
- 36:16sunny day. I'm walking around still in
- 36:18the t-shirt. It's mad.
- 36:21So, yeah, that was um Allan Banks and
- 36:24Starwood Gorge and with Starwood Peel
- 36:28thrown in at the end, which I didn't
- 36:31know about. I didn't know about that
- 36:32until I got to the sign. So, we're going
- 36:34to
- 36:36I'm going to go to Hulle now. I don't
- 36:38know if I'm going to do a much around.
- 36:39It's getting late. Like, it's uh it's 25
- 36:413 be dark soon. I've got to find
- 36:43somewhere to park.
- 36:45Yeah, this these winter tires good in
- 36:47the snow and the ice but not good on the
- 36:50mud. Blime me. Just found that out and
- 36:52me cost. I thought I was going to get
- 36:54stuck like I thought I was going to have
- 36:55to phone Green Flag
- 36:57to come and get us out. But no, the kind
- 37:00gentleman came. So, we'll see you back
- 37:02at Halt Whistle or whatever we do. Might
- 37:05might even see you back at the park up
- 37:06there. Depends what it's like. Listen to
- 37:10that mud coming off the wheels, man.
- 37:13There's nobody behind us anyway.
- 37:21Not good in the mud.
- 37:24Mud
- 37:32clean off. At least we're gone. At least
- 37:35we got going.
- 37:38This is uh whole Russell here. Nice
- 37:40little The Pillow Box Cafe. Oh, look.
- 37:43It's themed by
- 37:45post boxes and stuff. Look, look. Ah,
- 37:50[sighs] it's a it's closed.
- 37:58Get along here.
- 38:00>> All right.
- 38:01>> All right.
- 38:04Nice.
- 38:06Look at the weather. Look at it.
- 38:13It's a funny little
- 38:16It's made out of metal.
- 38:23Have no idea where to go.
- 38:28Try not to get run out. Like
- 38:30everything's shut. What time is it? It's
- 38:33only 20 to 4.
- 38:36Everything's closed.
- 38:41H whistle town center
- 38:45as you are.
- 38:47Is that an antique shop? I think it is
- 38:53shut
- 38:54closed. There's a lot of trinkets like
- 38:57in there. You know what they've done
- 38:59there, don't you? They've robbed the
- 39:01granny's house.
- 39:04They've robbed the granny's house.
- 39:06They've robbed it. All
- 39:15right.
- 39:18Surprise, surprise. The Turkish Bob is
- 39:20open.
- 39:24[snorts]
- 39:25Oh, I'm suspicious.
- 39:33Display. That's shops. A lot of shops.
- 39:36Nothing's open. That's weird.
- 39:41Another one. Well, this is the library,
- 39:44right?
- 39:46I built this library. Me,
- 39:52the the original facade, but all that's
- 39:56new.
- 39:58I came to work here was when they were
- 40:00building it. I parked my van in here.
- 40:03So, that's all new. Kept the original
- 40:05front.
- 40:07There's a co-op, the butchers,
- 40:10candlestick makers,
- 40:12toilets.
- 40:17All right, I won't go in.
- 40:21Look, all right, though. There a posh
- 40:23school up there. It's a hospital.
- 40:28It's a posh school. It's a hospital.
- 40:32Look at the weather. Oh, man. tell you
- 40:36look at this tree the size of that
- 40:46what's the stepies
- 40:54is
- 41:04and it goes on.
- 41:07So over there's a nice big pub called
- 41:10the railway
- 41:11down here
- 41:13is the reason why
- 41:16we'll find it.
- 41:18So busy busy.
- 41:22But
- 41:24here it is. Oldfashioned railway
- 41:26station.
- 41:28We
- 41:30pit. Oh, this one's blinding.
- 41:34Look at this. Look at it. Look at it. Go
- 41:44the old water tower. It's now a coffee.
- 41:47It used to be a water tower.
- 41:50The center of Britain. This is the
- 41:53center of Britain. How?
- 41:59How do they work? I don't Oh, look.
- 42:15Amazing. This is This is what I
- 42:16remember. You see, I remember this, but
- 42:19I wasn't 100% sure.
- 42:24The Victorian age.
- 42:27Look at that, man.
- 42:29Wow.
- 42:31I mean, wow. Oh, you're not interested
- 42:34in trains or railway stations, this is
- 42:35not for you.
- 42:36>> Next train to arrive at platform 2 is
- 42:39the 1549 Northern Service to
- 42:49We're in. Look. Here comes a woo woo.
- 42:55Here comes a woo woo.
- 42:58Here comes a woo woo. Here comes a woo
- 43:02woo woo.
- 43:16I don't think I was going to stop there.
- 43:19Huh? I waved at him.
- 43:23Did he wave back? No.
- 43:27It might have been a border Rambler for
- 43:29all we know.
- 43:32Right, let's go back into the town. I
- 43:35think I'm for a pint in the railway pub.
- 43:37What the hell? I've earned it. Pushing
- 43:38that van out of that mud. I'm absolutely
- 43:40My legs are like jelly. Jelly legs
- 43:46first. I'm going up there.
- 43:59Good.
- 44:06It's end. It's nearly November and I'm
- 44:08sitting outside having a pint. There's
- 44:10some
- 44:12nuts. It's busy this broad, but they've
- 44:15got Look, they've got um
- 44:19swimming and leisure center
- 44:21that away. So, if you need to come for a
- 44:23shower, you know, all you van lifers,
- 44:26all you hardcore van lifers, you need to
- 44:29go for a shower in the leisure center,
- 44:31that's the place to go.
- 44:33probably charge you about a couple of
- 44:34quid.
- 44:36Worth it though. Look,
- 44:40it's the van
- 44:42covered in mud on bloody wheels. Oh, I'm
- 44:45going to have to jet wash it. It's
- 44:46killing us this.
- 44:48It's going in for its new cupboard to on
- 44:50Monday.
- 44:52Old post office.
- 44:55Where's the new post office?
- 45:00Hope's a bit mad.
- 45:11snack bar.
- 45:16It looks nice here. Like it's a lot of
- 45:19kids, right? But they're all right. You
- 45:21know, there's a load of them sat out at
- 45:23the pond, weren't they? Gone going for
- 45:25the Halloween party
- 45:31evening.
- 45:35The black bull.
- 45:37Oh, the black bull in there. Oh, that
- 45:39looks nice. I think I think that might
- 45:42be the one I went in years ago.
- 45:45Brew Barana House in there. Loads of
- 45:48pubs.
- 45:50center of Britain.
- 45:54I like to play on the fact that it's the
- 45:56center of Britain.
- 46:02So, there we go. That is Halifax. No,
- 46:07what's it called? Halt Whistle.
- 46:10Halifax. [laughter]
- 46:12It was last week.
- 46:14I'm going now right to find the park up.
- 46:17It's getting dark. I think I found
- 46:19somewhere.
- 46:24Tempting to stay out and get drunk. This
- 46:26is mad. I bet you this is a wild night
- 46:28out here.
- 46:30I can't do it. I can't do it. There's
- 46:32nowhere to park here, so I can't do it.
- 46:35Right. Let's get back in the van.
- 46:39Right.
- 46:41Well, just a short like journey
- 46:45um sort of southwest from Hol Whistle, I
- 46:49come across this is the old vioideuct,
- 46:51old railway line,
- 46:53the Lamly vioideuct. And look, look at
- 46:57it.
- 46:59Look at me go. There's nobody here and
- 47:03there's no signs up. I can park here for
- 47:07Nate and I'm going to and it's spooky
- 47:10for Halloween.
- 47:13Your father was a swine.
- 47:18So yeah, I'm parked up there. We're
- 47:22going to jet wash this tomorrow. The
- 47:24garage in there. All whistle is so
- 47:25garage. I'll go there, jet wash it, get
- 47:28all that mud off.
- 47:30It's a disaster that.
- 47:33Thank God for them lads who came along.
- 47:37But yeah, this is the old lambly
- 47:38vioideuct.
- 47:42I can hear a chainsaw. [laughter]
- 47:45That's never a good sign. Anyway, right,
- 47:47we're going to get in, get sorted out.
- 47:51That's it really. Get the beers on.
- 47:55I've got 4G as well, which is another
- 47:58result.
- 48:00I've got me scary orange lights on
- 48:05cuz this is a really scary place.
- 48:09Spooky. Spooky. Look at it. Look at it.
- 48:22There's not one sign up saying you can't
- 48:24park here. So, I'm in.
- 48:27I'm in.
- 48:29This dog walker is like wandering about,
- 48:32but that's all right. Still only early.
- 48:36Look at that torch is mad.
- 48:40But yeah, this is it, man. It's a nice
- 48:43quiet spot. Little bit of road noise,
- 48:45but that'll die off. I'm sure of it.
- 48:50It's creepy though, is it? Ah, creepy.
- 48:54Creeper.
- 48:56I'm going to watch the mummy later.
- 48:58Don't know if I should.
- 49:01See, like along with Blair Witch
- 49:02Projects, the mummies. Mummies are like
- 49:04one of my biggest fears.
- 49:10We'll be hurried. There's no mummies
- 49:12around here.
- 49:14They're remaking. Oh, they're bringing a
- 49:16new one out, aren't they? The mummy 4.
- 49:19Right. So, just going to sit and chill
- 49:22out with the radio. Got a signal so I
- 49:24can get the radio. See, Craig Charles.
- 49:27Great Charles. Might send him a might
- 49:30send him a little memo. See if he reads
- 49:32this out. He's never read it out for
- 49:33ages to remedy that.
- 49:37This is what it's like without a torch.
- 49:39Look at this.
- 49:42You get yourself one of these orite.
- 49:46[sighs]
- 49:47It's mad.
- 49:49Why? It's crazy.
- 49:52Yeah. I'll be safe if anybody comes.
- 49:56Right, back to me little party, me solo
- 50:01party. What a sad act. [laughter]
- 50:05Here we are then. After about 14
- 50:08minutes, everything's done. Look, the
- 50:10the thrice cooked chips. The chicken is
- 50:14back. The barbecue sauce. The uh Kansas
- 50:19style barbecue sauce. No less tons of
- 50:23style.
- 50:24So I've used that up now. Oh yeah,
- 50:27that's down to one bar. It kills the air
- 50:30um the power banks. The air fryers kill
- 50:32the power banks. That's drawing 900 W.
- 50:36So it just kills it. But I had it
