- 0:29Awaits is about going on getaways and
- 0:32adventures with your Sims with an
- 0:34emphasis on childhood coming with quite
- 0:37a few new gameplay objects this time
- 0:39around. So, taking a look at Create a
- 0:40Sim mode, I don't think the hair meshes
- 0:43are very memorable and the men just get
- 0:45the women's hairs predominantly.
- 0:47Although men actually got better CAS
- 0:49than women's this time around, I think,
- 0:51in a worldwide first. I used to complain
- 0:53all the time that men's CAS was just so
- 0:56bad in The Sims 4. I can definitely see
- 0:58that they've been trying harder to be
- 1:00fair. It's not pretty stuff. It's purely
- 1:02functional CAS that makes sense for the
- 1:04pack. For example, it comes with new
- 1:06swimwear and a life jacket because
- 1:07there's kayaking and diving in the pack
- 1:09and a lot of summer camp style clothing
- 1:11and uniforms. I don't think anyone in
- 1:14their right mind is buying this pack for
- 1:16the CAS choices. Who needs sloppy head
- 1:18when you can have a literal sloppy head
- 1:21on your head? The Sims 4 is at a weird
- 1:23stage right now where they've added so
- 1:25much stuff they couldn't possibly add
- 1:26any more even with the brand new kits
- 1:28they're releasing. It feels very
- 1:30recycled. honest, I actually think I
- 1:32prefer them cutting back and solely
- 1:33focusing on functional CAS that makes
- 1:36sense within the boundaries of the pack
- 1:39and I wouldn't mind them doing it more
- 1:40often. They did make some questionable
- 1:42choices with the object categorization.
- 1:44Like, why is the swimming cap only
- 1:46available to female Sims? Men wear
- 1:49swimming caps. I also think a lot of the
- 1:51men's CAS suits female Sims, but they
- 1:54didn't apply it and also there was a
- 1:55couple of stuff from female that could
- 1:57have suited men. They did add a lot of
- 1:59stuff I think for kids and toddlers this
- 2:01time around, which is good. I don't
- 2:03really have anything good or bad to say
- 2:05really about the CAS in this pack. I
- 2:07think the Sims team have run out of
- 2:09ideas because they've pretty much done
- 2:11everything, but I think the pack is
- 2:12sufficient. It comes with a good amount
- 2:14of stuff that is useful for making
- 2:16summer camps and retreats. So, I'm going
- 2:19to be giving it a seven out of 10. So,
- 2:21I've seen a lot of Sims creators bash on
- 2:23the build stuff. So, I went into this
- 2:26expecting disappointment to await rather
- 2:29than adventure, but I was actually
- 2:31mostly content with it. I like the build
- 2:34stuff. I think it's nice, better suited
- 2:36to building a summer camp. You can also
- 2:38use it for maybe some kind of beach lots
- 2:40or shabby homes, I would say. They're
- 2:42definitely are not enough objects to
- 2:45make any kind of build you want. I tried
- 2:47to build a log cabin only using the pack
- 2:49without base game and I really struggled
- 2:51to furnish even half of the build. You
- 2:53really need stuff from other packs to
- 2:55make up the difference. Architecturally,
- 2:57the pack is great with the windows and
- 2:58doors and wallpaper swatches, but not
- 3:00enough stuff. the star of the show with
- 3:03build mode is the new playground
- 3:05equipment. It's modular and you can slot
- 3:07all of the jungle gym pieces in any way
- 3:09that you like to build your own, which
- 3:11by the way, I recommend doing with move
- 3:13objects off. There's also some new
- 3:15swimming pool stuff, too, and a new hot
- 3:17tub that sits in the floor, which I'll
- 3:19probably use all of the time. I feel
- 3:22like an expansion pack should expand on
- 3:24the game enough in build mode so that
- 3:27you can make as many builds as you want
- 3:29within the boundaries of the pack and
- 3:31the whole point of this was like log
- 3:32cabins, retreats, and I just don't feel
- 3:35like it came with enough stuff to do
- 3:36that. I think maybe a kitchen set would
- 3:38have been nice, making the bathroom set
- 3:41actually matching, perhaps having an
- 3:43outdoor movie projector that was smaller
- 3:45than the one that came with outdoor
- 3:46retreat in that random kit, maybe some
- 3:48cute outdoor lighting, more functional
- 3:50objects for each room of the house. I do
- 3:52like the stuff and the design aesthetic
- 3:54they went for. And to be balanced, I do
- 3:56also admit it actually came with quite a
- 3:58lot of new gameplay objects this time
- 4:00around, which I'm really happy for
- 4:02because they've traditionally always
- 4:04lacked with gameplay objects in The Sims
- 4:064 and finally we actually have a lot
- 4:08more. I think a balanced and honest
- 4:10score of the build mode here is a seven
- 4:12out of 10. So, the new world is called
- 4:14Gibby Points. There are 13 lots across
- 4:17three neighborhoods. All of the pre-made
- 4:19lots look perfect this time around. A
- 4:21couple of the lots are waterfront, which
- 4:22is the first time they've done this
- 4:24since Island Living, which is nice to
- 4:26see. On the direct contrary of something
- 4:28that's nice to see, a prolapsed anus.
- 4:31Not only is it prolapsed, it also
- 4:33squirts cumfarts every now and then for
- 4:36your Sims to enjoy watching. But no,
- 4:38this prolapsed anus is not going to
- 4:39[ __ ] for you for free. No, no, no,
- 4:41no, no, no. Apparently, you have to do
- 4:43some questline in order to actually make
- 4:45the geyser just squirt. And then after
- 4:47finishing it, it finally does what it's
- 4:49supposed to do. I mean, this is why I'm
- 4:51not straight, okay? If it takes that
- 4:53much effort, I'd rather be gay. So,
- 4:56aside from jumping to an anus metaphor
- 4:58to a vagina metaphor, being Okay, being
- 5:00serious now, sorry. There was
- 5:02apparently, like I've just heard that it
- 5:04squirts if you do a quest, but here's
- 5:07the issue. There are NPCs around the
- 5:09world, I believe, who are supposed to
- 5:10give you the quest, but I could not find
- 5:12them anywhere. I did find like the
- 5:13weird, crazy looking bird and I tried to
- 5:16get it to give me quests, but I think it
- 5:17glitched or the interactions failed
- 5:19because it just didn't work. Because of
- 5:21that, I was unable to make the geyser
- 5:23squirm. I mean, okay, no no more jokes,
- 5:26I'm sorry. It's disappointing that I
- 5:28couldn't do the quests this time around
- 5:30because I wanted to include them in the
- 5:31review, but I couldn't even after trying
- 5:33really hard. If I'm trying that hard to
- 5:35do it, then maybe there's an issue with
- 5:37the way it was implemented. There's a
- 5:38few rabbit hole buildings here where you
- 5:40can do stupid random things like
- 5:42checking weather conditions if you own
- 5:44Seasons. You can also use these
- 5:45buildings in order to locate different
- 5:47notable places. I think it's a nice
- 5:49first step towards navigating these fake
- 5:52open worlds slightly more tolerable,
- 5:53although it does force constant pop-ups
- 5:56and, you know, like and just annoying
- 5:57notifications when you do. I found a
- 5:59collectible trader here who can trade
- 6:01your duplicate collectibles with you and
- 6:03sell them to him for a higher price than
- 6:05selling it from your inventory. There
- 6:06are also festivals in each neighborhood.
- 6:08I saw a spin class once, but that's it.
- 6:10The Sims 4 does a really bad job with
- 6:12festivals. Either you're constantly
- 6:14being notified of them everywhere or you
- 6:16don't hear about them at all or you hear
- 6:18about them at the wrong time. And when I
- 6:19did hear about them, I was unable to
- 6:21find them. And honestly, I have a
- 6:23feeling that they may have been glitched
- 6:25because apart from the spin class, there
- 6:27was absolutely like nothing I could
- 6:29find. I just feel like maybe they were
- 6:31just completely broken because I was
- 6:34looking very attentively. I just
- 6:35couldn't find anything. And even when I
- 6:37did find the correct location, there was
- 6:39no festival going on. So, I'm assuming
- 6:41it's just corrupted. The world is a
- 6:43normal boring Sims 4 world. There's a
- 6:45huge expansive area to explore, but
- 6:47nothing to find other than a few
- 6:48butterflies here or there. Why am I
- 6:50collecting butterflies, by the way? I
- 6:52don't know. And I'm sure the side quests
- 6:54were lovely if it was even possible for
- 6:56me to find them and accept them in the
- 6:58first place. I'm going to give
- 7:00constructive criticism to make the world
- 7:01more fun. Why not add a butterfly
- 7:03sanctuary where you donate the
- 7:05butterflies to them, kind of like the
- 7:07Animal Crossing museum where you also
- 7:08donate fossils and maybe you get some
- 7:10rewards each time you do it. That way
- 7:12you are adding some kind of story
- 7:14progression into the game. This is kind
- 7:16of like a basic fundamental that exists
- 7:18in video games, story progression. The
- 7:20Sims 4 doesn't know it too well. How
- 7:22about quest givers who turn up? How
- 7:23about unique stuff and quests for
- 7:25children to do in the world seeing this
- 7:27is a kid-friendly focused pack. There
- 7:30are playgrounds in the world, by the
- 7:31way, but you'll never see random kids
- 7:33actually playing in them because every
- 7:34single Sims 4 world is a ghost town.
- 7:36Gibby Point is great for screenshots,
- 7:38but nothing else. It's getting a three
- 7:40out of 10. Taking a look at the
- 7:42gameplay, the most important thing. This
- 7:44pack is all about kids. I want to say
- 7:46from the off-step before we go into
- 7:48getaways, custom lots. Playgrounds are a
- 7:51brand new base game update alongside
- 7:52this pack, although in true EA fashion,
- 7:55they don't really do anything unless you
- 7:56have this pack. The new playgrounds are
- 7:58really cool. play around in the
- 8:00different pieces of equipment, fine.
- 8:02There's also hide and seek in the game
- 8:04now, which is a passive thing that you
- 8:05watch as a player, but you can also do
- 8:08some interactions, although it actually
- 8:10glitched for me, so I'm unable to show
- 8:12you any footage of me doing it
- 8:13successfully. That was after trying it
- 8:15several times, by the way. Paper crafts
- 8:17are also a new thing in the pack. You
- 8:20don't do them on the ordinary activity
- 8:22table, it's a separate object that you
- 8:23can place on any kind of desk or picnic
- 8:26bench or anything. You can craft origami
- 8:29and paper planes and paper mache stuff.
- 8:31It's fine, whatever. What's the point in
- 8:33making paper craft? I don't really know.
- 8:35It just feels like a filler feature, but
- 8:37at least kids have something new to do.
- 8:39I just don't think it's that different
- 8:41from the base game activity table. I'm
- 8:44just not convinced by it, especially
- 8:46given that it's a level 10 skill, which
- 8:48is just so dramatic. Archery is another
- 8:50skill in this pack up to level five.
- 8:53It's a lot more boring and repetitive
- 8:55than I thought it would be. It branches
- 8:57off into bow fishing at a higher level,
- 8:59but other than that, I think it's a very
- 9:00minor feature. With the bow fishing,
- 9:03you're more likely to catch rare fish,
- 9:04which I think is useful, but I don't
- 9:06really understand why I'm doing archery.
- 9:09The game doesn't come with archery
- 9:10competitions or anything. So, I just
- 9:13feel like they didn't expand on this
- 9:15expansion pack feature. And I'll be
- 9:17real, the animation for bow fishing is
- 9:20really creepy. I can't tell if it's a
- 9:22glitch or intended. Please tell me you
- 9:25see what I mean. Simmers have been
- 9:26catching bugs in The Sims 4 for years
- 9:29now, but now your Sims themselves can
- 9:31catch bugs. And no, I don't mean doing
- 9:33press-ups or T-posing, I mean literal
- 9:35bug catching. That is different to the
- 9:37bug catching that came with the Outdoor
- 9:39Retreat game pack. Confusing, I know.
- 9:42Butterflies and moths are a new
- 9:44collectible and you have to look in the
- 9:46collections menu to get hints about
- 9:48which ones are where and at what times
- 9:50and you have to fulfill certain
- 9:51conditions to get some of them. Okay,
- 9:53that's lovely, but as I said before, why
- 9:55is there no butterfly sanctuary to
- 9:57donate them to or something? There is a
- 9:59large insect prison object that you can
- 10:03capture them in, but why am I doing
- 10:05that? Insectology or I I It's not called
- 10:08insectology, it's some other name. But,
- 10:10there's a skill that comes with it
- 10:12associated with this up to level five.
- 10:14Again, I don't really know what the
- 10:15skill is for. I don't know why I'm
- 10:17catching the bugs in the first place.
- 10:19Again, so many issues with gameplay
- 10:21loops with this pack. There is a new
- 10:23reward trait for the bug catching
- 10:25aspiration which I went through. It just
- 10:28comes with some random romance
- 10:30interactions. I believe it comes with
- 10:31three that basically just show
- 10:33butterflies above your head when you do
- 10:34them, but that's pretty much it. There
- 10:36is also, by the way, a new aspiration
- 10:37for kids this time around which is good,
- 10:40which is about being the cool kid on the
- 10:42block. In fact, kids get a brand new
- 10:43feature called formative moments. It's
- 10:45basically a secondary type of aspiration
- 10:48that you can have on top of your normal
- 10:49one, and you can stack a lot of them at
- 10:51the same time. They're more like mini
- 10:53aspiration goals, and they have some
- 10:55minor effects on the kids when they grow
- 10:57up. For example, your Sim could have a
- 10:59formative moment about being in the
- 11:01water, and the goal is to swim for 6
- 11:03hours and use a kayak three times. And
- 11:05after you do this, your reward is to
- 11:07lose energy slower whilst kayaking as an
- 11:10adult. Bit weird. What's the point in
- 11:12these kinds of rewards? They don't seem
- 11:14meaningful to me, and I don't see the
- 11:16point in having a formative moment, to
- 11:18be honest. Bit fine, it's a filler
- 11:20feature that gives you more missions to
- 11:22do. I just don't really know why I'm
- 11:24doing the missions, so that I can kayak
- 11:26with a slower energy need to decay. But,
- 11:28sorry, why am I kayaking again in the
- 11:30first place? I would like to say this
- 11:32also a new trait called competitive,
- 11:34where it actually splits off into two
- 11:36branches. Your Sims can either be
- 11:38healthily competitive and a good team
- 11:40sport, or they can be really atrociously
- 11:43competitive and have like a really
- 11:45negative team spirit. From my
- 11:47experience, every single Sim geared
- 11:49towards having a very negative
- 11:51competitive spirit regardless of their
- 11:53other traits, and regardless of what I
- 11:56did with them, they just all
- 11:57automatically became negative for no
- 11:59reason. It changes the way that they
- 12:01react to winning or losing somethings,
- 12:04which is cute, but I don't think it's
- 12:06that substantial in terms of giving your
- 12:08Sims more personality. It is randomly a
- 12:11very in-depth trait with a lot of
- 12:14interactions for it. It just doesn't
- 12:16make your Sims feel like they have any
- 12:18more personality, so it defeats the
- 12:19point of being a personality trait. So,
- 12:21the moment you've been all waiting for,
- 12:23getaways. What is a getaway? It's
- 12:26basically a schedule. You assign people
- 12:28roles, and at set times, you decide what
- 12:31these Sims do. EA have created a list of
- 12:33template ideas, so I tried the outdoor
- 12:36kids camp getaway to start with, and the
- 12:38roles were campers and camp director.
- 12:40So, at 6:00 a.m., the camp director is
- 12:42scheduled to cook breakfast and clean,
- 12:44and the campers are scheduled to eat. At
- 12:469:00 a.m., the campers are scheduled to
- 12:48do physical activities, and the director
- 12:50looks after and mentors them, etc.,
- 12:52etc., throughout the day. At each
- 12:54scheduled time, you set a main
- 12:56overarching activity, and then you set
- 12:58some sub activities. Although, I found
- 13:00they did the sub activities more than
- 13:02the main overarching activity, so I
- 13:05don't really know if they're balanced
- 13:07correctly. Surprisingly, Sims mostly
- 13:10seem to know their place and will do
- 13:12things correctly, but they do also
- 13:14retain some autonomy, which I actually
- 13:16like because they're not all just moving
- 13:19and doing the same thing like robots. It
- 13:21feels like some Sims will go off and do
- 13:23their own thing, which I actually do
- 13:24really like about it, and I think it was
- 13:26done mostly well. I would admit, though,
- 13:28whilst playing with the getaways, I did
- 13:30think, what is the point? Like, I just
- 13:32got a bit bored of the kids camp within
- 13:34the first 24 hours. I'm watching other
- 13:36Sims, the other NPC townies around me
- 13:39doing what they're supposed to do, which
- 13:41is kind of the bare minimum, and I'm
- 13:43scheduling my Sim to do the same things
- 13:45with them. Okay, but why is that fun? I
- 13:48do think it's cool that you can change
- 13:50up the schedule activities at any time
- 13:52that you like. So, if you get bored of
- 13:54the kids camp, you can actually add
- 13:56cross-pack activities from other packs
- 13:58you own and schedule them in. So, I
- 14:00definitely think you can make it more
- 14:01interesting. It just requires a lot of
- 14:03creativity. The pack also comes with a
- 14:05pre-made love island style romance
- 14:07competition where singles mix and
- 14:09mingle, and at the end of every day, a
- 14:10Sim is supposed to be eliminated. How
- 14:12are they eliminated? On what grounds?
- 14:14Why? I don't really know. What's the
- 14:16consequences? I don't really know. In
- 14:19fact, this getaway was utter [ __ ]
- 14:21hell. Sims 4 Sims are so incapable of
- 14:24interacting with each other, that's why
- 14:26it just didn't work. At least in the
- 14:28kids summer camp, they were just kind of
- 14:30doing their own thing, but next to each
- 14:32other. Try to have these Sims interact
- 14:33with each other romantically just wasn't
- 14:35working. I feel like the whole
- 14:37competition aspect was not thought
- 14:39through very well at all. It just feels
- 14:41like they kind of threw it in at the
- 14:42end. It's been my dream for ages to have
- 14:45a reality TV show for the pack for The
- 14:47Sims 4, and I just don't feel like this
- 14:49cut it. I didn't find it enjoyable. It's
- 14:52not really reality TV show. It just
- 14:55creates the illusion. You can kind of
- 14:57add reality TV show elements, but it's
- 14:59not the same thing. You're just kind of
- 15:01playing pretend. There's also a pre-made
- 15:04fitness retreat, and this is obviously
- 15:05to show off the new exercise bike and
- 15:07dumbbells in the game. For this one, I
- 15:09mostly just let my Sim do what she
- 15:11wanted, and she basically did what she
- 15:13was supposed to do within the schedule.
- 15:16Although, again, I didn't really find it
- 15:17that enjoyable. And something that I am
- 15:20a little bit annoyed about with this
- 15:22pack, despite coming with eight template
- 15:24getaways, there are only pre-made lots
- 15:27for three of them. What they used to do
- 15:29in The Sims 2 and 3, if you didn't play
- 15:30those games, is every time a new pack
- 15:32came out to your lot library, they would
- 15:34actually add several different types of
- 15:37lots that you can replace with the other
- 15:39lots, which was really cool. But, with
- 15:41this pack, they didn't really do that. I
- 15:42feel like they should have added a lot
- 15:44for all of the other different
- 15:46activities that you could do. I tried
- 15:48making a daycare, a boarding school, and
- 15:51a retirement home. The retirement home
- 15:53was [ __ ] hilarious. But, as it's just
- 15:55a getaway, they don't live there, and
- 15:56Sims can only do a getaway for maximum
- 15:58of 6 days. So, EA implemented an old
- 16:02people's home template that I got a lot
- 16:05for, but you can't actually make an old
- 16:06people's home cuz it's only a getaway
- 16:08for 6 days, which makes no sense. I then
- 16:10tried to make a daycare and a boarding
- 16:12school. They both went absolutely
- 16:14terribly. They were hell. Sims were not
- 16:16doing what they were supposed to. It's
- 16:17impossible to have like a
- 16:19teacher-student dynamic with getaways,
- 16:22so I wouldn't really set it up that way.
- 16:25Just to confirm, this is not a hotels
- 16:27pack. You cannot make hotels. You could
- 16:29try and kind of make a hostel, but it's
- 16:32not the same as a hotel. Another issue
- 16:34is how much getaways cost. They are
- 16:36really expensive to visit one in game.
- 16:39EA did not balance the cost very well at
- 16:41all, and I feel like as a player, you
- 16:43should have more autonomy over how much
- 16:45they cost. You can also make custom
- 16:47lots, which follow the exact same
- 16:49mechanic as getaways, where you schedule
- 16:51certain roles and certain times people
- 16:53do interactions. It's just it's applied
- 16:55to the lot itself. So, when you visit
- 16:57one of these lots, you'll find Sims
- 17:00doing the activities at the set times.
- 17:02Although, you can't join in, by the way.
- 17:04The only way you can join in is if you
- 17:05join it as a getaway. So, I don't really
- 17:08understand what a custom lot is. I don't
- 17:11think anybody really understands what it
- 17:13is. What is the difference between a
- 17:14custom lot and a getaway? Nothing, but
- 17:16everything. Who knows? Anyway, the first
- 17:19thing I tried to make on a live stream
- 17:21was a mental asylum, and I just want to
- 17:23say it was really hard finding all of
- 17:25the activities that I wanted. There is
- 17:27no search feature to scroll through all
- 17:30of the activities. It made it really
- 17:32cumbersome trying to find what I wanted
- 17:34with all of the packs installed. Why
- 17:36didn't they add a search feature? They
- 17:38did the same mistake with The Sims 4
- 17:40Businesses with no Hobbies Pack. Why is
- 17:42so EA search bar phobic? So, I tried my
- 17:45best to find the activities and
- 17:47eventually got there. I couldn't figure
- 17:48out how to assign all the specific roles
- 17:50to specific Sims on the lot,
- 17:52particularly for my Sim. So, I assigned
- 17:54the role of patients to be infected,
- 17:57just like the Sims from Strangerville
- 17:59that walk around possessed. None of them
- 18:00in the lot were actually infected, so it
- 18:03was glitched. And as I said before, if
- 18:05you visit a custom lot, you can't
- 18:06actually see the schedule or participate
- 18:08in the lot activities cuz you aren't
- 18:09assigned a role, but it's impossible to
- 18:11assign a role. So, what was the point in
- 18:12making the custom lot? I don't know. You
- 18:14can just make one using activities and
- 18:15schedules, but can't participate unless
- 18:17it's a getaway, so it's not a custom
- 18:19lot, it's a getaway lot, which I feel
- 18:21like if they just called it a getaway
- 18:22lot, it would have made more sense. So,
- 18:24what's the purpose of a custom lot where
- 18:26you have townies that spawn in doing
- 18:28certain behaviors at certain times, but
- 18:29your Sim is not directly involved, and
- 18:31there's no gameplay loop? I don't know.
- 18:33I don't get it, and neither does EA
- 18:34apparently either. I think getaways and
- 18:37custom lots were a cool idea with a lot
- 18:39of possibilities, and I definitely will
- 18:40be spending a lot of time messing around
- 18:42with the feature. I think it's cool,
- 18:44just like how I thought businesses and
- 18:46hobbies was cool with the brand new home
- 18:48business feature. But, I also thought to
- 18:50myself, realistically, am I going to be
- 18:52making all this effort to build a
- 18:53getaway lot and set a schedule and staff
- 18:55and everything just to see if it could
- 18:58actually work or not, because this is
- 19:00still The Sims 4, and most things don't
- 19:01work. And also, what's the difference if
- 19:03I make a custom lot that has set
- 19:06activities? What's the difference
- 19:08between a home business lot that has set
- 19:10activities? I don't know. What's the
- 19:11difference between that and a getaway
- 19:13club at a set lot with activities? I
- 19:15don't know. Especially seeing as
- 19:16Businesses and Hobbies was only two
- 19:18packs ago. It just seems a bit weird
- 19:20timing. Imagine a new friends come with
- 19:22the pack. There are four dolls to choose
- 19:24from, and your child Sim can play with
- 19:26it and turn it into an a real-life
- 19:28imaginary friend, and other Sims don't
- 19:30see it. Hilariously, the Sims around the
- 19:32child will actually get really
- 19:34uncomfortable because they think the
- 19:35child's talking to themselves. And once
- 19:37your Sim turns into a teen, they can
- 19:39actually turn their imaginary friend
- 19:41into a real Sim and add them to the
- 19:42household. On paper, that is. I was
- 19:44unable to do it. It took me a good few
- 19:46times, due to bugs and glitches, to make
- 19:49it happen. Honestly, I think imaginary
- 19:51friends are absolutely hilarious. They
- 19:53are so [ __ ] ugly and creepy-looking.
- 19:56I really like it. Weirdly, all four of
- 19:58the imaginary friends are girls. There
- 20:01aren't any boy imaginary friends, which
- 20:04I didn't really understand. I think it's
- 20:07a really fun concept, but when they
- 20:08become human, they're just pretty much
- 20:11human. Also, they don't really do
- 20:13anything. They don't really have super
- 20:16special interactions that are going to
- 20:17change the game. I think Sims 3
- 20:20imaginary friends were a bit more fun,
- 20:22but I think this is a nice quirky
- 20:24feature that they added, and I'm glad
- 20:26they put it in there. The pack also has
- 20:28a weekend job at summer camp. I haven't
- 20:30really seen anyone else talk about it.
- 20:32It's weird because you only work Friday,
- 20:33Saturday, and Sunday, but it is
- 20:35technically a full-time job. So, the
- 20:37gameplay of this pack is essentially
- 20:38being able to make your own summer
- 20:40camps, whether that be a kids camp or an
- 20:42adult one. Not that they're actually
- 20:44camping, by the way, because this pack
- 20:46doesn't come with camping tents, even
- 20:47though I think it should have done. You
- 20:49instead just have them live in log
- 20:51cabins for up to 6 days and do set
- 20:54scheduled activities at set times over
- 20:56that 6-day period, and then they go
- 20:58home. I would call getaways an
- 21:00interaction scheduler rather than a
- 21:03getaway. You force Sims to do certain
- 21:06things at certain times, but it's not
- 21:09really brand new gameplay. You're just
- 21:10scheduling a time in which they perform
- 21:12pre-existing interactions. I've said
- 21:14this in all of my recent Sims 4 pack
- 21:17reviews, they don't really come with new
- 21:18gameplay, they just come with new ways
- 21:21to use pre-existing gameplay. The
- 21:24problem is you just don't really get
- 21:27what you want with it. You only get a
- 21:28small taste. You can kind of make a
- 21:30retirement home, but it's not actually a
- 21:32retirement home. You can kind of make a
- 21:34kids summer camp, but it's not really a
- 21:36summer camp. You can kind of make a
- 21:39reality TV competition, but not really.
- 21:42This pack allows you to schedule events
- 21:45to create the illusion that you're kind
- 21:47of doing something, but you're not
- 21:48really doing it, and there's no gameplay
- 21:50loop, and it's not very satisfying or
- 21:53rewarding as a player to do any of these
- 21:55things. To highlight some positives
- 21:57though about the pack that I do like, I
- 22:00think it's really great for kids. It
- 22:02comes with a lot of cool new gameplay.
- 22:03Adults can do archery, paper crafts,
- 22:06even hide and seek, but I think it is
- 22:08more geared towards kids, and I think
- 22:10family players will really love this
- 22:11pack. It's a much better alternative
- 22:13than outdoor retreat in order to go on
- 22:16mini vacations. I think because you can
- 22:19actually schedule I didn't say this
- 22:20before, but you can actually schedule
- 22:22getaways to occur once a week every week
- 22:25on only one specific day. So, maybe you
- 22:27could do like a weekend kids book and
- 22:29reading club or kids crash or something,
- 22:32whatever they're called, where they go
- 22:33once a week on a Saturday or Sunday. I
- 22:35just feel like there is definitely a lot
- 22:37that you could do with a pack like this,
- 22:40and I do think it takes a very creative
- 22:42mind and somebody who has a lot of time
- 22:44and patience. Most Sims 4 players are
- 22:45casual players, so I don't think it's
- 22:47suitable for most, but I think for
- 22:49family players and legacy players, you
- 22:51will get a lot of enjoyment out of the
- 22:52new activities, and also being very
- 22:55clever with the new getaway system. I
- 22:57just feel like the pack was a little bit
- 22:58overhyped. Fundamentally, watching Sims
- 23:02do set things at a set time is not
- 23:04gameplay, and there's no gameplay loop.
- 23:06It's just me watching. I can schedule a
- 23:08chef to cook dinner at 5:00 p.m. Sims in
- 23:11other worlds, even though they're not
- 23:13assigned the role to cook dinner at 5:00
- 23:14p.m., they will still autonomously cook
- 23:16for themselves, even though the chef is
- 23:18assigned to cook. So, Sims are scheduled
- 23:20to do things, but they also do things
- 23:22that don't make sense cuz they're dumb
- 23:23Sims 4 Sims. I just feel underwhelmed
- 23:26with the gameplay of the pack. I'm
- 23:28sorry. I'm giving this pack a five out
- 23:30of 10 for gameplay. Sims 4 packs are
- 23:33often extremely buggy and glitchy, or
- 23:36even if they're not buggy, there's often
- 23:38just some annoying oversights that exist
- 23:40or poor implementation of features,
- 23:42which I think are so important to look
- 23:44at. So, the rehome butterfly mechanic
- 23:46doesn't work very well, and you often
- 23:48can't rehome one, even though you should
- 23:49be able to. And if you accidentally
- 23:51place a butterfly spawner in a public
- 23:53place, you can't always pick them up
- 23:55back again, so they're stuck there
- 23:56forever. Archery competitions barely
- 23:59work. Good luck trying to get two Sims
- 24:01together to do it. This is more of an
- 24:03oversight than a bug, but kayaks are
- 24:04constantly going missing or spawning in
- 24:06random locations. Random Sims are
- 24:08constantly using random kayaks, and it's
- 24:11all just a mess. Whenever I tried to
- 24:13play hide and seek, my Sims just got
- 24:15stuck indefinitely counting down or
- 24:17trying to look for Sims that weren't
- 24:19actually hiding. It just didn't work for
- 24:21me 100% of the time. There is a new
- 24:23interaction called call getaway Sims
- 24:26here in order to make them group up, but
- 24:28it didn't work all the time for me.
- 24:30There's a bug in the world where Sims
- 24:32will actually swim through the
- 24:33waterfront lots indoors, and it's been
- 24:35happening to me. It happened in the
- 24:37official Sims 4 livestream, too, and
- 24:39also some other people. As I said
- 24:41before, I honestly think festivals were
- 24:43broken, because when I was told there
- 24:44would be them and where they were, I
- 24:47just didn't see them. The imaginary
- 24:49friend doll is broken and sometimes
- 24:50won't turn human. In fact, mine just
- 24:52disappeared then reappeared after I
- 24:54tried to do it, and then the action miss
- 24:56went missing. It was just a bit strange,
- 24:58and the game seems to really struggle to
- 25:00perform the interaction in other times
- 25:02when I tried to do it. I also think the
- 25:04new rabbit hole career is glitchy, you
- 25:06know, because as I had camp counselor,
- 25:08my Sim was earning 12,240
- 25:10Simoleons per shift, which is just
- 25:13insane. Of course, that's wrong. The
- 25:14role requirements also don't always
- 25:17work. As I said before, when I tried to
- 25:19make my asylum, I needed all of the
- 25:21guests to be possessed, but they
- 25:23weren't. Also, in my boarding school, I
- 25:25set my Sims all to be children, but they
- 25:28were only teens that turned up. They did
- 25:31start off as children, but they
- 25:32literally all aged up at the same time
- 25:34for no reason, which is clearly a
- 25:36glitch. Sims don't always wear their
- 25:38fitness clothing when using the exercise
- 25:41bike, they just use their everyday wear.
- 25:42I also found the custom lot Sims don't
- 25:44always wear the outfit they've been
- 25:46assigned for their role. There are also
- 25:48draw distance issues with the world with
- 25:50certain scenery and buildings, like the
- 25:51watchtower not loading properly. Almost
- 25:54every single feature of this pack bugged
- 25:56out in some way, whether that be major
- 25:58or minor. It's not acceptable at all.
- 26:01They should have tested this pack
- 26:03thoroughly before release, and it's very
- 26:05evident they didn't do a good enough
- 26:07job. It is getting a three out of 10 for
- 26:09performance. In my pack reviews, I like
- 26:12to discuss cross-pack features.
- 26:13Obviously, the main cross-pack feature
- 26:15here is the fact that it comes with
- 26:17getaway activities that come from all of
- 26:19the other packs, and they covered pretty
- 26:21much all of the major bases. There were
- 26:23some random activities that they didn't
- 26:25cover, or some that are kind of hidden
- 26:27and not covered very well, but I think
- 26:29there's a lot of possibilities. You
- 26:31could make a farm retreat where guests
- 26:33come and look after and play with the
- 26:35horses. You could make a vampire blood
- 26:37bank. There's a lot of different
- 26:38activities that I think would be really
- 26:40fun to try out. They didn't think of
- 26:42everything, and usually when EA releases
- 26:45a Sims 4 pack, they never end up getting
- 26:47updated with brand new activities. So,
- 26:50if they missed one, they won't come in
- 26:52in the future and add another. That's
- 26:54not how they do things, unfortunately.
- 26:56So, you're going to have to rely on
- 26:57modders for a lot of things, but in
- 26:59general, I actually think they covered
- 27:01cross-pack play very well here. It
- 27:04doesn't feel like you require other
- 27:06packs in order to make this pack fun,
- 27:09but it is most certainly enhanced by all
- 27:11of the other packs, which I think is
- 27:12really cool. So, I'm going to give it an
- 27:14eight out of 10 for cross-pack play.
- 27:16This is where I give an overall average
- 27:18score of the Sims 4 Adventure Awaits,
- 27:21which should be taken with a grain of
- 27:22salt, because everyone plays the game
- 27:24for different reasons, which is why I do
- 27:26the more kind of modular pack reviews.
- 27:28So, in all, this is getting a 5.5 out of
- 27:3110, which I think is a fair score for
- 27:34the Sims 4 Adventure Awaits. Mediocrity
- 27:37Awaits would be a better pack name. I
- 27:39don't know if that's a real word. I just
- 27:41feel like it lacks a gameplay loop, and
- 27:44it doesn't go in depth enough. I'm sure
- 27:46it was, you know, a nightmare for them
- 27:48to code in getaways. I'm sure it was a
- 27:51very intricate thing, but that doesn't
- 27:53necessarily reflect good gameplay loop
- 27:55as a player. I had similar feelings
- 27:57about the Sims 4 Businesses and Hobbies
- 28:00pack. I thought it was such an excellent
- 28:02idea on paper, but similarly, it just
- 28:05doesn't really have a great loop. If you
- 28:07enjoyed this pack review, you might want
- 28:09to check out another pack review here.
- 28:11Thank you so much for watching this
- 28:12video. I will see you in the next one.
