  1. 0:05Hi everyone.
  2. 0:07Hope you're well. My name's Andrea.
  3. 0:10And you'll be hearing and seeing a lot
  4. 0:12of me in these videos um here on the TT
  5. 0:16Madrid level five TEFL course. Well,
  6. 0:19we're going to hope that you enjoy
  7. 0:21getting started. Um what I'd like to do
  8. 0:24first of all is show you around the
  9. 0:26Google Classroom, which is our platform
  10. 0:28where everything is hosted. So, it's
  11. 0:30very important that you understand how
  12. 0:32the program works um as everything
  13. 0:34you're going to do is through here on
  14. 0:37the Google Classroom.
  15. 0:38Um it's very possible that you've used
  16. 0:40Google Classroom before in other
  17. 0:41studies. Um but even if that's the case
  18. 0:44um and obviously if you haven't, please
  19. 0:46do watch this video uh just to make sure
  20. 0:48you know exactly um what you need to do,
  21. 0:51where you need to look, and how the
  22. 0:53program works specifically for the TEFL
  23. 0:55course.
  24. 0:56So, we're going to jump straight in.
  25. 0:58Um when you receive your invite, you'll
  26. 1:01receive an email and you'll receive a
  27. 1:03link to a video um to watch. That should
  28. 1:05be this one just to help you get
  29. 1:07started. Um but it'd also ask you to
  30. 1:10join the Google Classroom and assuming
  31. 1:11that you've done that by now, um you'll
  32. 1:14be in here. Now, probably when you
  33. 1:17arrive into the Google Classroom itself,
  34. 1:19you'll find yourself here in the
  35. 1:21something called the stream section. Um
  36. 1:23you'll need to pop straight into the
  37. 1:25classwork section to be able to follow
  38. 1:27through what I'm talking about here.
  39. 1:31Okay. So, the Google Classroom is set up
  40. 1:34to be in the most logical format that it
  41. 1:36can be and it starts with day one at the
  42. 1:39top here. And basically, you'll see that
  43. 1:42if you scroll down all the way, you just
  44. 1:45keep going down and down. Don't get too
  45. 1:48overwhelmed initially by all the tasks.
  46. 1:51Don't forget this is a 10-week program.
  47. 1:54So, there's obviously you see a lot of
  48. 1:55information in here. You don't have to
  49. 1:57worry about it all on day one. Just
  50. 1:59showing you that the system allows you
  51. 2:01to scroll down so you can see everything
  52. 2:05is in this one place in the classwork.
  53. 2:08If it does feel a bit overwhelming to
  54. 2:09you,
  55. 2:10um you can collapse
  56. 2:13uh each section one by one or you can
  57. 2:15just collapse all and then you'll just
  58. 2:17see the main section titles.
  59. 2:20So, I'm going to explain to you um what
  60. 2:23you need to do for your day one and then
  61. 2:25on beyond from there. Um so, please
  62. 2:29watch uh the video of the team that
  63. 2:31you'll find in this section here. You
  64. 2:34must importantly read this information
  65. 2:36in the pre-course reading, okay? So,
  66. 2:39there's some documents that are very
  67. 2:40important here. I'm just going to go
  68. 2:42through with them um now. So, one of
  69. 2:45those you will see here is a 10-week uh
  70. 2:49study plan. This is
  71. 2:52uh your ideal study program for the 10
  72. 2:55weeks to make sure that you get through
  73. 2:56everything that's needed. Um it is
  74. 2:59self-study, so you obviously you are
  75. 3:01able to do this at your own pace, but we
  76. 3:03will um be sending you emails and
  77. 3:06reminders to try to keep you on track
  78. 3:08with the study plan because really we
  79. 3:09know that by doing that you have a
  80. 3:11better chance of finishing on time.
  81. 3:15And remember um you need to finish your
  82. 3:1710-week study in the 10 weeks in order
  83. 3:20to be able to then later come on the
  84. 3:22in-person course that you're scheduled
  85. 3:24to come on. Um unfortunately, failure to
  86. 3:27get all your work done in the theory
  87. 3:29section in this online program will
  88. 3:31delay um or let you lose your place on
  89. 3:34the program itself when you come to the
  90. 3:36in-person course. So, really important
  91. 3:38that you stay on track. So, might be
  92. 3:41worth downloading that and keeping that
  93. 3:43beside your um computer and we will send
  94. 3:47you regular reminders as well to keep
  95. 3:49you on track.
  96. 3:50Another important document here is usage
  97. 3:53of AI. Um, so this is our policy. Please
  98. 3:56do read it. Make sure you understand
  99. 3:58exactly what is allowed and what isn't
  100. 4:01allowed
  101. 4:02um when you are submitting your work.
  102. 4:05Now, another useful document here to
  103. 4:06read through is what does it mean for
  104. 4:09these tasks to be level five? Okay, so
  105. 4:12I'm going to let you read the
  106. 4:13information here. It's um the level five
  107. 4:16is basically UK qualification level um
  108. 4:19comparable to foundation degree. What
  109. 4:21that basically means is this is not
  110. 4:23necessarily a really easy set of tasks
  111. 4:26to do. It does have a level of
  112. 4:29um complexity in some of the tasks.
  113. 4:31There are certain tasks that you have to
  114. 4:33do that require a reasonable amount of
  115. 4:36information in them and we will be
  116. 4:38grading and assessing your work
  117. 4:40according to not just the task itself
  118. 4:44and like what you've been asked to do,
  119. 4:45but how much you include your answers as
  120. 4:48well. So, it's really important that you
  121. 4:49read that document so you know exactly
  122. 4:52what is expected of you.
  123. 4:55Great. Now, let's move on. You've got
  124. 4:57this video here we're talking about here
  125. 4:59so you can come back to this anytime.
  126. 5:01And then to get you started, there's a
  127. 5:03student information form we'd love you
  128. 5:05to send in um
  129. 5:07right away just to give us a few basic
  130. 5:09details and that can help us understand
  131. 5:12a little bit about you as you're
  132. 5:14studying.
  133. 5:16Now, each task or each section, I should
  134. 5:18say, is labeled by the week that you
  135. 5:20should um complete it in
  136. 5:22and then has a task booklet followed by
  137. 5:26the videos that you should watch. So,
  138. 5:28really the process is
  139. 5:30open the task booklet, watch the videos,
  140. 5:33complete the task booklet, and submit it
  141. 5:36when that section is all done.
  142. 5:39Now, you might find that you don't have
  143. 5:41time to do all of the section at the
  144. 5:43same time and that's some of the
  145. 5:44benefits of being uh with a Google
  146. 5:46product. So, you can open the booklet,
  147. 5:49you can start teaching skills one, you
  148. 5:51can close the booklet and return to it
  149. 5:53anytime, and your your
  150. 5:56your text and everything you've put in
  151. 5:57there will remain in there. So, it's no
  152. 5:59problem for you to go back to it at a
  153. 6:01later date.
  154. 6:03Your uh [clears throat] task is to
  155. 6:06complete the tasks in the order that
  156. 6:09they show in the Google Classroom. You
  157. 6:12are asked to do that so that we can keep
  158. 6:15track of your tasks, but also so that
  159. 6:17your learning is linear. You are
  160. 6:19learning things as you go um rather than
  161. 6:23jumping around the Google Classroom. So,
  162. 6:25please do make sure you do that.
  163. 6:28You do not have to wait to get your
  164. 6:30grade from the teacher to move on to the
  165. 6:33next task. So, as soon as you submit it,
  166. 6:35you may proceed to the next task.
  167. 6:38So, you'll see this is week one
  168. 6:40foundation skills, and every now and
  169. 6:41again we've got some grammar tasks
  170. 6:43thrown in, so they're a reminder here.
  171. 6:45And then you'll see here's some week one
  172. 6:47and week two grammar tasks, you can be
  173. 6:49working on those, and then you return to
  174. 6:51week two for some more teaching skills,
  175. 6:54and then we move on to week three for
  176. 6:56more teaching skills,
  177. 6:58and then we jump down to week three and
  178. 6:59four for grammar, and then there's some
  179. 7:01more of week four for the teaching
  180. 7:03skills. So, they're a little bit mixed
  181. 7:05up there, but um basically you'll have
  182. 7:07all of those to get done in the first
  183. 7:10few weeks.
  184. 7:11And then there'll be a little break here
  185. 7:13where you will invite you to join our
  186. 7:15collaboration hub. Our collaboration hub
  187. 7:17is all about getting you to just share
  188. 7:20some ideas, connect with some peers,
  189. 7:23um and and just let people know a little
  190. 7:25bit about you. So, all you have to do is
  191. 7:27click on the PDF,
  192. 7:31and you'll see some activity choices
  193. 7:32here.
  194. 7:33Click on one of those,
  195. 7:35and you'll see that it jumps to a little
  196. 7:38activity that you can read
  197. 7:41and complete.
  198. 7:43Okay? And do notice that they will these
  199. 7:46activities will open in separate tabs,
  200. 7:48so you need to return to the Google
  201. 7:50Classroom to return to the main tasks.
  202. 7:54I know love it for you to take part in
  203. 7:57some of those collaborative tasks there.
  204. 7:59And then you carry on.
  205. 8:01And basically you can see that you've
  206. 8:03got all the weeks through there to week
  207. 8:059 and week 10. And those are all your
  208. 8:08main tasks that you need to get
  209. 8:09completed.
  210. 8:11Now, when you see weeks 11 and 12, these
  211. 8:14are other tasks for you to look at that
  212. 8:17are related to your pre-arrival to the
  213. 8:19in-person course.
  214. 8:22There were actually 2 weeks between
  215. 8:24finishing your week 10 and coming to the
  216. 8:27in-person course, and that's these two
  217. 8:29weeks 11 and 12. During that time, you
  218. 8:31can watch these videos that are related
  219. 8:33to an assignment that you'll be doing
  220. 8:35when you get here. There's no particular
  221. 8:37tasks, so it's not heavy, and there is a
  222. 8:40little quiz that you would like you to
  223. 8:42do just to show that you have read
  224. 8:45that you have watched them.
  225. 8:47Okay, what else can I show you on here
  226. 8:49just to be useful? You've got a view
  227. 8:50your work button. Do jump onto that, and
  228. 8:53here you'll basically see all your tasks
  229. 8:56listed. So, this is everything that you
  230. 8:59must have handed in.
  231. 9:00Um it's quite a useful little overview
  232. 9:03because here you can see anything that
  233. 9:05you've been assigned, which means you
  234. 9:06have to work on it. If you see something
  235. 9:09here that's one of one, that means it's
  236. 9:11been graded.
  237. 9:12If you see something that just says
  238. 9:14handed in, that means you submitted it,
  239. 9:16but we haven't done anything with it
  240. 9:17yet.
  241. 9:18Okay?
  242. 9:20Um you may also have handed something
  243. 9:22in, and we may have sent it back to you
  244. 9:24with some work that needs doing. In that
  245. 9:26case, it will show as assigned again
  246. 9:28because it's back to you to do some
  247. 9:30completion.
  248. 9:32A little view here, if you click on the
  249. 9:34task, uh you can see if any comments
  250. 9:37have been made. So, you can see here
  251. 9:38that this task has been graded
  252. 9:41um and given the one-to-one with some
  253. 9:43comments on it, which is super.
  254. 9:45And another way to check your work as
  255. 9:47well
  256. 9:48is to click on here, but also click on
  257. 9:51the task itself.
  258. 9:54And what we'll be doing as the trainers
  259. 9:56is we will be commenting in your booklet
  260. 9:59here if there's anything that needs to
  261. 10:02be revised. So, here I sent this back um
  262. 10:06because we don't have enough information
  263. 10:08in question two to grade the task. So,
  264. 10:11you can obviously look at your task
  265. 10:13details that way as well.
  266. 10:17The other way, of course, just to access
  267. 10:19them is through the class work.
  268. 10:22So, we click on foundation skills.
  269. 10:25Again, we have the view here. You've got
  270. 10:27two options. You can just click on the
  271. 10:29document that's showing.
  272. 10:33This is great. Takes you to the document
  273. 10:35and you can start working.
  274. 10:39And or you can click on the view
  275. 10:43instructions
  276. 10:44and it will take you here as well.
  277. 10:48I'd like to take you to a task um
  278. 10:50that hasn't been graded. Let's have a
  279. 10:52look
  280. 10:54in the one that I have ready for you,
  281. 10:57which I think is
  282. 10:59this one.
  283. 11:06Okay, so here again
  284. 11:08comment by the teacher. You can see it
  285. 11:10here. That shows that you haven't uh
  286. 11:13passed the task. You've got some more to
  287. 11:15do.
  288. 11:16Okay?
  289. 11:21Now, every now and again there's a
  290. 11:22little glitch with Google Classroom and
  291. 11:26sometimes, not for everybody, but just
  292. 11:28occasionally, the task might not show
  293. 11:30up.
  294. 11:32Now, if it does, it usually says
  295. 11:33something like that it was removed or
  296. 11:35it's not there. Don't panic. You've got
  297. 11:37two options. You can make a copy,
  298. 11:40and if that option doesn't appear, we
  299. 11:41suggest you refresh a couple of times,
  300. 11:44and it usually appears. Well, not this
  301. 11:47time because of course I'm trying it out
  302. 11:49now. Or we can do a copy here,
  303. 11:52and it will appear as well in a moment.
  304. 11:55Technically, the document is there. It's
  305. 11:57just not showing on your Google
  306. 11:59Classroom at that time.
  307. 12:01So, don't panic. Just uh
  308. 12:03do make a copy, refresh a couple of
  309. 12:05times, and worst-case scenario, if it's
  310. 12:07not there after that, you can get in
  311. 12:09contact with us and we'll try to resolve
  312. 12:10it for you.
  313. 12:14Okay. So, um it's really important that
  314. 12:17you uh work through the task in the
  315. 12:19order that you do them,
  316. 12:22submit them. Um so, when you are in your
  317. 12:26documents and you're typing away,
  318. 12:29you'll see here on the top right there's
  319. 12:31a turn in button. That's for you to use
  320. 12:35when you finish doing all of your tasks.
  321. 12:39And you'll see down here, if you want to
  322. 12:40jump through the different sections, you
  323. 12:43can very quickly do that. So, if you
  324. 12:46finished Teacher Skills 1, left it, come
  325. 12:48back to it a few days later to finish
  326. 12:50Teacher Skills 2, just drop down there,
  327. 12:52and etc. etc.
  328. 12:55And that's it.
  329. 12:57We hope that you enjoy the course. Um
  330. 12:59take good care. If you've got any real
  331. 13:01questions after you watch the video, um
  332. 13:04please don't hesitate to get in touch,
  333. 13:06and we look forward to you seeing you
  334. 13:08starting to submit your work soon.
  335. 13:10Bye for now.
