- 0:00they say dogs experience the world
- 0:03differently from humans their senses of
- 0:05smell and hearing are far better than
- 0:07ours but a recent video has people
- 0:09wondering if these superpowers go far
- 0:12beyond their noses and ears
- 0:15on a sweltering July Day in 2020 UK
- 0:18residents Meg oxby and Jeff parlett are
- 0:22on a hike with their Trio of Hungarian
- 0:24Vizslas unaware of what they're about to
- 0:26witness we were walking along just
- 0:29having a chat like we normally do and
- 0:32then we noticed that the dogs were not
- 0:35moving
- 0:36[Music]
- 0:38at first this looks like a photograph
- 0:40but keep watching the camera starts
- 0:43moving and yet the dogs all appear to be
- 0:46frozen in their tracks I couldn't
- 0:48believe it you could see the leaves
- 0:51moving and all the fishes but the dogs
- 0:53were completely still I'm telling you we
- 0:56are not freezing or slowing down this
- 0:58video you can tell by the Shrubbery
- 1:00right here that it's moving in the Wind
- 1:04now check out how this dog has his leg
- 1:07raised
- 1:08and tail curled
- 1:11and this other dog is Frozen in midstep
- 1:16look it seems impossible to maintain
- 1:18balance like that the three V's laws
- 1:21stay in that position for four whole
- 1:23minutes before resuming their normal dog
- 1:25activity
- 1:27[Music]
- 1:31ancient cultures from the Greeks to the
- 1:33Romans to Koreans all have myths about
- 1:36dogs having Supernatural ability
- 1:38the Mayans believe that dogs known for
- 1:41being great swimmers swam The Souls of
- 1:43the Dead across a shadowy lake to the
- 1:45afterlife
- 1:46forensic investigator Chase klosky
- 1:49wonders if something like that is at
- 1:51work here are there like forces somehow
- 1:55making them stop like that it seems like
- 1:58a theory is that dogs have a spiritual
- 2:00side almost they sense things like
- 2:02earthquakes illness even death sometimes
- 2:05recent Studies have explored whether
- 2:07dogs have some sort of sixth sense to
- 2:09communicate telepathically Meg and Jeff
- 2:12concur their dogs seem to have some kind
- 2:14of canine ESP they knew what they were
- 2:18all doing and they knew how long to stay
- 2:21still for so it's just amazing how they
- 2:24can communicate without actually
- 2:26speaking that side of it is kind of
- 2:29magical really
- 2:34that was me trying to freeze for just
- 2:36five seconds it's impossible I'm too
- 2:38Twitchy so forget about four whole
- 2:41minutes it's clear these dogs can do
- 2:43some amazing things right but can they
- 2:45really freeze themselves in mid step
- 2:48let's take the video to our experts
- 2:54zoologist Roxy Furman considers whether
- 2:57a supernatural Force may have terrified
- 2:59the dogs into a form of paralysis dogs
- 3:02definitely do freeze when they're afraid
- 3:04so that could be something that's made
- 3:06them scared but there's nothing else in
- 3:08their body language that indicates fee
- 3:10their ears are up their tails up rieslas
- 3:13are hunting dogs but I don't think that
- 3:15they can be that still for the entire
- 3:17duration of a four minute video without
- 3:20kind of any movement it looks like it's
- 3:22been edited in some way to me
- 3:25compare this other video of hunting
- 3:27these laws with Megan Jeffs you can see
- 3:29these other dogs don't maintain their
- 3:31posture as well or as long so maybe
- 3:34Roxy's right Megan Jeff's dog video
- 3:36can't be real so there are apps that can
- 3:40be downloaded on these mobile devices
- 3:41that can animate certain areas of a
- 3:44picture while preserving other areas
- 3:47Frozen in Time
- 3:48although these apps can deceive a viewer
- 3:52we found no evidence to support that
- 3:53this file was manipulated or slowed down
- 3:56or Frozen in any way
- 3:59so this is in fact real
- 4:01still biology Professor Floyd Hayes
- 4:04believes this is just the product of
- 4:06centuries of breeding this is a behavior
- 4:08that is selectively bred for in several
- 4:10breeds of dogs although it is reinforced
- 4:13in dogs by training in fact they
- 4:16actually can be trained to lift a pub of
- 4:20the ground when they are pointing
- 4:22these may be onto something here at the
- 4:24end of the video we do see the dogs
- 4:26unfreeze as soon as a bird flies away
- 4:29but here's the catch Meg and Jeff say
- 4:32they have never trained their dogs to
- 4:33behave like this we teach them you know
- 4:36sit and stay but this this was coming on
- 4:40a completely different scale and
- 4:42something now
- 4:43I can't see being taught to them
- 4:46whatsoever
- 4:51our verdict this is still an animal
- 4:53anomaly these three vislers really did
- 4:56freeze in place for four minutes and if
- 4:58Meg and Jeff truly didn't train them to
- 5:00do this how'd they stop time is still a
- 5:03doggone mystery
- 5:05October 2018 Jason assalin is giving
- 5:09friends a tour along the shores of Lake
- 5:11Superior near Marquette Michigan as
- 5:13we're walking along the Lakeshore I
- 5:15heard somebody gasp and I looked over
- 5:16and I saw them pointing out into the
- 5:18water and said what is that out there
- 5:23Jason pulls out his camera and starts
- 5:25recording
- 5:27there's what appears to be a tall and
- 5:29large object on the horizon so let's
- 5:31take a closer look
- 5:34the object is gray in color but the
- 5:36shape appears pretty blurry Jason and
- 5:38his friends think it might be a ship
- 5:40the ship would have had to have been
- 5:42hundreds of feet into the air we never
- 5:45thought that it was a ghost ship at the
- 5:47time but when I got home and watched the
- 5:49video
- 5:50that's all I could think of we just saw
- 5:53a ghost ship
- 5:55since the late 1800s there have been
- 5:57hundreds and hundreds of shipwrecks that
- 5:59have occurred on Lake Superior it's
- 6:02definitely a dangerous patch of water
- 6:03that is essential for trade but very
- 6:07risky to travel from the SS Western
- 6:10Reserve in 1892 to the Hudson in 1901
- 6:13many large Freighters have sunk in bad
- 6:15weather only to be seen again allegedly
- 6:18plying the waters long after a tragic
- 6:21wreck according to local Legend one of
- 6:24the most famous ships to have gone down
- 6:25is the SS Bannock burn locals call it
- 6:29the Flying Dutchman of Lake Superior and
- 6:32people still claim to see it to this day
- 6:34that's a reference to the legendary
- 6:36Flying Dutchman the doomed 17th century
- 6:39ship that's been cited and spoken of for
- 6:41centuries Jason can't help but wonder if
- 6:44this is the mysterious phenomenon he's
- 6:46captured on camera we just witnessed
- 6:48something out of this world
- 6:52there's a poem about the world's most
- 6:54famous Phantom ship with the line they
- 6:57who see the Flying Dutchman never never
- 7:00reach the shore but when it comes to
- 7:02getting answers Never Say Never here's
- 7:04what we found
- 7:09first science writer and forensic video
- 7:11analyst Mick West focuses on the shape
- 7:14of the object in Jason's video he notes
- 7:16that most famous shipwrecks in Lake
- 7:18Superior are Freighters with steam
- 7:20engines
- 7:21this looks different
- 7:22it looks like a sail ship I don't know
- 7:24whether they have big sales ships on the
- 7:26Great Lakes but that's what it looks
- 7:28like and if that's unexpected then
- 7:30that's a clue that it's not actually a
- 7:32ship
- 7:33next the team considers another
- 7:35possibility
- 7:36physicist Dr Michio Kaku says it might
- 7:39be a mirage a mirage is caused by
- 7:42temperature inversion
- 7:44and dense denser bends light more
- 7:48than hot air a temperature inversion can
- 7:51make images below the Horizon visible
- 7:53distorted in the distance
- 7:56so could the weather be causing this
- 7:57effect
- 7:59atmospheric scientist Dr Deanna hence
- 8:01looked at the data the day the sighting
- 8:03happened and sees just such an inversion
- 8:13conversion and that can lead to that
- 8:16warm air sitting on top of cold air this
- 8:19can actually really change how light can
- 8:23propagate through the atmosphere then
- 8:25Mick West tries to put the pieces
- 8:27together
- 8:28could a temperature inversion have
- 8:29distorted something that is already
- 8:31there
- 8:32turns out there's a small island 12
- 8:35miles offshore in this area that's
- 8:36normally hard to see up above
- 8:40we have a view of the island
- 8:43so this is the direction we're looking
- 8:45from so I just simply lined up the
- 8:49lighthouse here in the top
- 8:53with the lighthouse down here so that
- 8:56lines up perfectly
- 9:02what is that thing the key for us was
- 9:05the temperature data and that Island our
- 9:08verdict Mirage a temperature inversion
- 9:11caused an island that's usually a bump
- 9:13on the horizon to look like a phantom
- 9:15ship it's January 17 2020 in Fargo North
- 9:20Dakota winter has really set in with
- 9:22packed snow and ice on the ground and
- 9:24temperatures dipping to one degree
- 9:25overnight after looking at an office
- 9:28space to rent accountant and mother of
- 9:30six Nicole hebner returns to her car and
- 9:33Records something very strange it's very
- 9:35icy it was so windy that I could hardly
- 9:37even walk on the sidewalk because it was
- 9:39almost blowing my feet out from
- 9:41underneath of me and I noticed that
- 9:43there was a light pole in the parking
- 9:44lot that was just wiggling and it was
- 9:46rattling really loudly everyone thought
- 9:48it was really unique and crazy and
- 9:50special it just made you think that we
- 9:52can all feel the cold it affects things
- 9:54that even aren't alive like our cars and
- 9:57the buildings and here's what makes this
- 9:59a mystery we can see that the wind was
- 10:01blowing look at that bush but strangely
- 10:04there's an identical pole in the
- 10:05background that doesn't seem to move at
- 10:07all
- 10:09animism is a religious belief that
- 10:11objects and plants have souls and while
- 10:14there is no way to test whether that's
- 10:16true or not we can try to see if there's
- 10:18a scientific explanation for what we're
- 10:21seeing here no matter how uncanny it may
- 10:23be so let's have our experts weigh in
- 10:27[Music]
- 10:29could the cold have caused this
- 10:31atmospheric scientist Dr Deanna hence
- 10:33has pulled up the weather data from that
- 10:35day when temperatures were well below
- 10:36the freezing Mark typically speaking
- 10:39these kind of polls easily withstand
- 10:42cold temperatures we see these kind of
- 10:45light poles all over the country and
- 10:47they're built to withstand a wide range
- 10:49of conditions that takes us to the wind
- 10:52could it be to blame given that hint
- 10:55that the wind was affecting the bush
- 10:57within the video screen I just wanted to
- 11:00check and see the wind speeds it turns
- 11:03out that they were going at a pretty
- 11:04healthy clip anywhere from roughly about
- 11:0730 to closer to 40 miles per hour in
- 11:11fact hin says a blizzard was blowing
- 11:13through the region that weekend at times
- 11:15causing whiteout conditions but
- 11:17physicist Dr Hakeem oluchihi says it's
- 11:20not only the speed of the wind that
- 11:21matters but its direction and frequency
- 11:24any gust of wind is not going to cause a
- 11:27light pole to Shake in this way what
- 11:30we're looking at potentially is resonant
- 11:32phenomena and so what matters is the
- 11:35frequency of the wind everything solid
- 11:38has a natural frequency of vibration
- 11:41well you don't have to hit an object
- 11:44with a hammer you can hit it with the
- 11:46wind the wind makes vibrations in this
- 11:50land post and these vibrations are
- 11:52magnified if they resonate with the
- 11:55length of the Lamppost so when the
- 11:58vibration of the wind heading the light
- 11:59post has the same frequency as the
- 12:01natural frequency of the post it
- 12:03amplifies the vibration causing this
- 12:05resonance effect physicist Dr Michio
- 12:07Kaku says if the residents were to get
- 12:09strong enough the light pole might
- 12:11actually collapse that's what happened
- 12:12in 1940 in Washington the Tacoma Rose
- 12:17Bridge collapsed as a consequence of
- 12:20wind wind passing over the bridge
- 12:23causing the entire bridge to oscillate
- 12:26like a snake
- 12:27this is a phenomenon known as Aero
- 12:30elastic flutter which occurs when the
- 12:31energy from the wind is rapidly absorbed
- 12:33by the structure and converted into
- 12:35mechanical vibrations
- 12:41so our verdict it was certainly cold
- 12:44enough in North Dakota to make people
- 12:45shiver but the light post is vibrating
- 12:48so violently because the wind gusts are
- 12:50causing resonance
- 12:52and the adjacent light post isn't moving
- 12:54because the wind is hitting it at a
- 12:56different frequency perhaps because the
- 12:58vibrating post is in a tight wind tunnel
- 13:02it's May 2020 and when Alexa walkovitz
- 13:05learned her mother's dog Lala was lost
- 13:07she and her friend Anna did something
- 13:09you might find hard to believe
- 13:19what well believe it or not it's all
- 13:23about an app called Rando Nautica
- 13:26Alexa and her friend set an intention
- 13:28and thought of her mother's dog the
- 13:30Rando Nautica app which claims to direct
- 13:32people to a real world encounter with
- 13:34those intentions then displayed random
- 13:37GPS coordinates near her home in the
- 13:39Mojave Desert we're walking forward
- 13:41walking forward and Anna turns to me and
- 13:44kind of like says what's that
- 13:47there was a little animal where did you
- 13:50come from and I realized it was a dog I
- 13:53didn't even see it
- 13:55take another look out of nowhere this
- 13:58dog appears in the desert
- 14:01now it turned out this dog wasn't her
- 14:03mother's it had escaped from a nearby
- 14:05property and although Alexa never found
- 14:08Lala she is convinced the app Taps into
- 14:11the power of the Mind
- 14:12kind of a healing Adventure because
- 14:14maybe that was my dog speaking to that
- 14:17dog and was trying to say to you like
- 14:19listen it's okay here I am to comfort
- 14:22you for a moment
- 14:24experiences like Alexis made Rando
- 14:26Nautica The Craze of 2020. in just three
- 14:29months the ab Drew over 15 million
- 14:31downloads with thousands of posts on
- 14:34social media of people declaring their
- 14:36intentions
- 14:37the intention for my random journey is
- 14:39purple
- 14:40heading to random locations is that a
- 14:43purple house
- 14:46and finding their wishes at least
- 14:48partially fulfilled
- 14:52like thinking of purple and then having
- 14:54the app lead to this backyard
- 14:57blowing my mind right now
- 15:00does the world of the Mind connect with
- 15:02the physical world can random Nautica
- 15:04really manifest our intentions we asked
- 15:08our friendly physicist to come up with
- 15:09an experiment to test it
- 15:11[Music]
- 15:14Dr Hakeem oluchhei and Dr Michio Kaku
- 15:17give us our guidelines in order to test
- 15:19this idea to see if it works you have to
- 15:22do a lot of tests to remove the
- 15:23statistical uncertainties and you have
- 15:25to keep very careful records of when
- 15:27you're right and when you're wrong
- 15:32second when it comes to a goal make it
- 15:35specific and not metaphorical my
- 15:38intention was adventure and cool stuff
- 15:43and this is so cool
- 15:45not something that looks pretty wow wow
- 15:48no cash that to me would be a very
- 15:52convincing experiment
- 15:55so that's just what we did asking our
- 15:58test subject to declare cash as her
- 16:00intention I
- 16:02of course
- 16:05random GPS coordinates
- 16:08now let's see where we're going
- 16:12it's part of a hairbrush
- 16:14so far no cash
- 16:17all right my intention one hundred
- 16:20dollars
- 16:21100 dollars
- 16:23[Music]
- 16:29I found a weird Buckle thing our subject
- 16:34keeps repeating the experiment
- 16:37attention
- 16:38100 then at one location no dollar bills
- 16:43but
- 16:51so we didn't find any money at this
- 16:53location
- 16:54um but there is a bank really close to
- 16:55here so you never know maybe that's what
- 16:57drew me here like mini Rando Nautica
- 16:59Stories the exact intention didn't
- 17:01manifest
- 17:03but something kind of related so what's
- 17:05happening here Kaku believed the
- 17:08explanation is something called the
- 17:09synchronicity effect a phenomenon where
- 17:12people interpret two coincidental events
- 17:14as intertwined wow synchronicity for
- 17:18example is you're thinking about Joe and
- 17:21Joe calls you on the telephone and you
- 17:23say to yourself aha I knew it I'm
- 17:26psychic
- 17:27it's kind of blowing my mind right now
- 17:30but Kaku explains while everyone
- 17:32remembers the occasional hits most of
- 17:34the time they're misses you forget about
- 17:37them but think of all the times when you
- 17:39thought about Jane and Harry and they
- 17:41didn't call you
- 17:46our verdict most likely coincidence
- 17:49which comes from people making very
- 17:51general wishes like something that will
- 17:53make me happy but there is a lot we
- 17:55still don't know about this universe but
- 17:57that's what we think what do you think
