- 0:00All right, hello. Today I have a special
- 0:02guest. Her name is
- 0:04>> Samara.
- 0:05>> Samara. What's your middle name, Samara?
- 0:07>> Uh it's Danielle.
- 0:08>> Danielle. Samara Danielle. But we call
- 0:11her Samara. Do you have any nicknames,
- 0:12Samara?
- 0:13>> Um my friend calls me Era. I don't like
- 0:17Sam. I'm not a Sam.
- 0:18>> She's not Sam. Don't call her Sam.
- 0:20[laughter]
- 0:21Nobody say Sam in the comments.
- 0:22>> Yeah, or Sammy. I'm not Sammy, either.
- 0:23>> Not Sammy.
- 0:25What does your friend call you?
- 0:26>> Uh she calls me Era.
- 0:28>> Era. Oh, that's cute. Samara, Era. Nice.
- 0:32I like it. And Samara, how do I explain
- 0:35Samara's relation to me? Well, it's a
- 0:38little complicated, but basically um her
- 0:41mom uh used to be married to my dad uh
- 0:44many years ago. So she was like my
- 0:46stepmom. But now she's not married to
- 0:48him anymore, and she had a daughter,
- 0:51Samara. And now, how old is Samara
- 0:53today?
- 0:54>> I am 12.
- 0:56>> 12 years old. So, technically she's not
- 0:58my sister, but I think of her like, you
- 1:00know, like a half sister or something
- 1:03like that because uh her mom was kind of
- 1:05like my second mom. So, that's kind of
- 1:07the the relation here. And she very
- 1:10kindly agreed to make a video with me
- 1:14and to showcase her natural English. She
- 1:17is a native English speaker from Where
- 1:19are you from? What is the state?
- 1:21>> Oh, Maine.
- 1:21>> So you're from the state of Maine, which
- 1:23is where I'm from, also. Where is Maine
- 1:26in the United States?
- 1:27>> It's in the Eastern part.
- 1:29>> Yes. And also
- 1:30>> It's like it's on the upper part of it.
- 1:34It's
- 1:34>> Northeast.
- 1:35>> Yeah, northeast, definitely.
- 1:36>> It's uh on the border of of what
- 1:38country?
- 1:39>> Canada.
- 1:39>> Canada. Have you ever been to Canada?
- 1:42>> No, I have not been to Canada, but I've
- 1:44heard a lot about it.
- 1:45>> Yeah, it's very strange that we're so
- 1:46close and we've never been there.
- 1:48>> And I've been to places like further
- 1:49away, so.
- 1:50>> [laughter]
- 1:51>> Yeah, Samara has traveled to She was in
- 1:53Puerto Rico, where I just was. She's
- 1:55been on cruises. Yeah, where have been?
- 1:58>> Uh I haven't been like a lot out of the
- 2:00state, but most of my out-of-state stuff
- 2:03has been on cruise, like going to Puerto
- 2:04Rico and like San Juan and that kind of
- 2:07stuff.
- 2:08>> Have you been to Did the cruise stop at
- 2:10Mexico or not?
- 2:11>> Um the first one I went on did, this one
- 2:13did not though.
- 2:14>> So you've been maybe to some islands in
- 2:16the Caribbean.
- 2:17>> Yeah, definitely.
- 2:18>> Okay. Would you like to travel somewhere
- 2:20else?
- 2:21>> Um I don't know. I really like like
- 2:23where I've been, but probably somewhere
- 2:25like oh like Hawaii. I'd love to go to
- 2:26Hawaii. I've never been to Hawaii, I'd
- 2:27love to go there.
- 2:28>> So you like tropical places?
- 2:30>> Yes, I like tropical. I don't want to go
- 2:31and travel somewhere cold.
- 2:33>> [laughter]
- 2:33>> What do you think about living in Maine
- 2:35in general like with the four seasons
- 2:38and the winter?
- 2:39>> I really like it because it's definitely
- 2:41like when you start to get sick of one
- 2:42season, the other one comes along. Like
- 2:45you have winter is pretty cold and snowy
- 2:47and I like winter, but then I'm
- 2:49definitely sick of it and I'm really
- 2:50happy for when spring and summer come
- 2:51along. So it's nice with the four season
- 2:53change cuz you kind of get some of
- 2:55everything.
- 2:55>> So you like it, but you do prefer when
- 2:58it's warm.
- 2:58>> Yes, I don't like when it's humid. I'm
- 3:00not like I like warm, but I don't like
- 3:02like crazy hot, but yeah, I definitely
- 3:04prefer like warmer seasons.
- 3:06>> Like me. Yeah. I I think most people in
- 3:09Maine do prefer when it's warmer here,
- 3:11but they they tolerate the winter.
- 3:13>> Definitely.
- 3:14>> You find stuff to do in the winter. You
- 3:16like to go uh snowshoeing with probably
- 3:18with your dad and stuff.
- 3:19>> Yeah, I go snowshoeing. I really like
- 3:21I'm me and my sister like make snow
- 3:23forts. This is it's really fun and like
- 3:25obviously we have a tradition of like
- 3:26making snowmen and that kind of stuff.
- 3:28>> Oh yeah, she has a little sister named
- 3:30Farah who is seven, right?
- 3:32>> Six. She's six though. Six years old.
- 3:34>> I'll turn I will turn 13 in 4 months and
- 3:37then she will turn seven in 5 months.
- 3:40>> Your birthday is in August.
- 3:41>> Yeah, August 23rd.
- 3:42>> Yeah, so basically Samara's being very
- 3:45like nice right now and and chill and
- 3:47and stuff. She's trying to um you know,
- 3:49speak in a nice way for you guys, but
- 3:51sometimes Samara, when she gets um, you
- 3:54know, excited about something, she talks
- 3:55really fast, super fast. And I told her
- 3:57that my my students, they they really
- 4:00like to be challenged with real English.
- 4:03So, I told her, "Just be normal. Talk as
- 4:05fast as you want." But you can let let
- 4:07me know in the comments how you what you
- 4:09think about Samara's English, if you
- 4:11think that it's easy to understand her
- 4:12or it's difficult because, yeah, people
- 4:14always say that they understand me, but
- 4:16I want to bring on guests on the show to
- 4:19see how easy or difficult it is to
- 4:21understand them. So, I'm going to pass
- 4:23you the mic and you can hold it, and I
- 4:24want you to just tell me a little bit
- 4:27about about you, about your your life
- 4:29here here on this this farm, and what
- 4:32you like to do, and and what are the
- 4:33things, you know, what do you do in a
- 4:35typical day here?
- 4:36>> Um, I definitely really like it here. We
- 4:39have a lot of animals, so a typical day
- 4:41is definitely taking care of them. I go
- 4:44out and I feed the farm animals with my
- 4:45mom. I feed the cats, and then I have to
- 4:48hold my parrot a lot because parrots
- 4:50need a lot of attention. So,
- 4:53um,
- 4:53>> Your your parrot?
- 4:54>> Yeah, my parrot. Her name's Kiwi. And I
- 4:57She definitely needs a lot of attention.
- 4:59I like to hang out with the cats. So,
- 5:01lots to do with animals. And then, I
- 5:04also am a gymnast, so I do gymnastics
- 5:08here, which is really fun. I kind of
- 5:10have like my whole little routine. Um,
- 5:12yeah, and I I also really like doing
- 5:14art. I'm actually just about to get into
- 5:16a paint project, so that's going to be
- 5:17fun.
- 5:18>> You like uh gymnastics a lot. You're
- 5:20very passionate about that. And um
- 5:22painting, also. And being with your
- 5:25animals. How many animals do you have
- 5:26here?
- 5:27>> I think we have 46 or 47, which I cannot
- 5:30believe how little we have. I cannot
- 5:31remember the last time that we were in
- 5:33the 70s.
- 5:34>> And the number's so high because you
- 5:35have a lot of chickens, right?
- 5:36>> Yes, we have 29 chickens, but we are
- 5:39hatching chicks. We have five eggs, so
- 5:41fingers crossed some hatch. Um, they
- 5:43should hatch in like 2 days, so I'm
- 5:45really excited.
- 5:46>> Nice. Yeah, she she loves the chickens.
- 5:48They all have names and they're they're
- 5:50all very unique because they're all
- 5:52different kinds of chickens, right? They
- 5:54have different appearances.
- 5:55>> Yes, we have Yeah, they're mostly
- 5:57different kinds. We have like a few of
- 5:59the same breed, but then with also like
- 6:01hatching chicks, we have like some mixed
- 6:03breeds. And yeah, they're really cute
- 6:04and they all have their different
- 6:05personalities. Chickens are not just
- 6:06like A lot of people think chickens are
- 6:08pretty like dumb, but they're actually
- 6:11they can be pretty intelligent and I
- 6:12love their little personalities.
- 6:14>> Yeah. Yeah, I agree. I agree. Do you
- 6:16think that they they have a bond with
- 6:19you? Like they they
- 6:21feel something toward you?
- 6:22>> Um I would say some do. Some are a
- 6:25little bit more leave me alone. I I
- 6:27think they definitely like us when we
- 6:29give them food. That's like They're
- 6:31like, "Yeah, we love you when you have
- 6:33food for us." But some definitely are
- 6:35friendly and very affectionate.
- 6:36>> Some you you pet and you you hold them
- 6:39and you touch them.
- 6:40>> Yes, we have definitely a few who enjoy
- 6:42being pet and are very chill with being
- 6:44picked up. And then we have some that
- 6:45are total spazzes and just want to like
- 6:49be like, "Feed me, but leave me alone,
- 6:51please."
- 6:52>> How would you describe What does a spaz
- 6:54a total spaz mean for someone who
- 6:55doesn't know English?
- 6:57>> Um it means like they kind of like are
- 7:00skittish or like nervous, a little bit
- 7:02like crazy. Like they like to kind of
- 7:04like run away from us and be like,
- 7:06"Leave me alone."
- 7:07>> [laughter]
- 7:08>> They go crazy if you try to pick them
- 7:10up. Some some of them, maybe.
- 7:11>> Yeah.
- 7:12>> And you also have a
- 7:13some goats and a pig.
- 7:15>> Yes, I have six goats and I have a pig
- 7:19and I love them so much. The pig is
- 7:21Pookie and then I have the six goats and
- 7:24I love all the goats so much.
- 7:26>> The The pig's name is Pookie, by the
- 7:28way, in case you didn't understand that.
- 7:31You have a couple dogs and three cats
- 7:34and yeah, I think that's a fish. I think
- 7:37that's all the animals.
- 7:37>> And I have two leopard geckos in my
- 7:39room, Nick and Lisa.
- 7:40>> Ah, Nick and Lisa, the geckos.
- 7:42>> Yes.
- 7:43>> In her room, okay.
- 7:44>> They're like
- 7:45>> I I forgot about the geckos.
- 7:46>> Yeah, they're like I think they're like
- 7:47eight. They're pretty old now. I named
- 7:48them when I was really tiny. So, they
- 7:50have classic names. However, Nick may be
- 7:52a Nicole. We don't know.
- 7:53>> Uh oh, you don't know the gender?
- 7:55>> Yeah, we know we know Lisa's a girl, but
- 7:56we don't know about Nick.
- 7:57>> Mhm, okay. Interesting. Uh what do they
- 8:00do all day? Do they just chill out?
- 8:02>> Nick, he is kind of lazy. He's on the
- 8:04chubby side. He just like likes to lay
- 8:06around and when it comes dinner time, he
- 8:08eats basically all the worms before Lisa
- 8:11can have any. But, Lisa likes
- 8:13>> he's fat.
- 8:13>> Yes. They definitely leopard geckos like
- 8:16chilling, but Lisa definitely likes to
- 8:18walk around the tank a little bit more
- 8:20and like adventure more than he does.
- 8:22>> Nice. Something interesting about you
- 8:24also is that you do homeschooling or
- 8:27you've been doing homeschooling up until
- 8:29now and you are you're just completing
- 8:31now the end of the school year like the
- 8:33sixth grade, right? So, next year your
- 8:37plan is to do what?
- 8:38>> My plan is to go to school in the
- 8:40seventh grade and I'm kind of nervous
- 8:42about it, but I'm also really excited.
- 8:44>> So, she's going to go to an actual
- 8:46school, not not being homeschooled and
- 8:48she's you're going to like a small
- 8:50private school, right?
- 8:51>> Yes, it is a very small private school.
- 8:55And there's I think there's only like a
- 8:55hundred a hundred twenty to like a
- 8:57hundred sixty students. Pretty small
- 8:59like ten to fifteen students in each
- 9:01class, but I'm really happy cuz my best
- 9:04friend and little sister go there. So,
- 9:05it's going to be awesome.
- 9:06>> And and what was your reasoning for why
- 9:09you wanted to go there besides your
- 9:10friend and your sister?
- 9:11>> Um well, I'm thinking that once you go
- 9:14to school, you can't try it. So, I think
- 9:16cuz I've never gone to school and I've
- 9:17always been homeschooled and I love
- 9:19homeschool so much, but I'd love to try
- 9:21going to school and see if I like it and
- 9:23I'd love to have like a bigger friend
- 9:25group, definitely.
- 9:26>> So, for the experience to try it cuz you
- 9:28can't go back and try it if you miss
- 9:30your chance and to maybe make more
- 9:33friends.
- 9:33>> Yeah, definitely.
- 9:34>> But, right now you have um have your
- 9:37best friend um Autumn, her name is,
- 9:39right? And you have your sister. Do you
- 9:41have any other friends that you hang out
- 9:42with or is that mostly it?
- 9:43>> Autumn is my best friend and she lives
- 9:45close, so she's the one I hang out with
- 9:47mostly. But I do have another best
- 9:49friend who lives she sadly moved away,
- 9:51her name's Annika.
- 9:53Um but we still see each other every
- 9:55once in a while, which is really nice.
- 9:57But yeah, Autumn's definitely my main
- 9:58best friend.
- 9:59>> All right, nice. Yeah, I think it's
- 10:01good. The social situations at school
- 10:03because I went through all of the years
- 10:05of public school. Um sometimes it can be
- 10:07really great, sometimes it can be not so
- 10:09great depending on, you know. But I went
- 10:11to a public school with, you know, a
- 10:12huge amount of students and I think that
- 10:15a smaller private school, I don't know
- 10:18if it has to do with it being private,
- 10:19but just a smaller school with less
- 10:21people, I feel like it's going to be
- 10:23better for for making friends because
- 10:26because it's smaller, so nobody gets
- 10:28left out, like nobody gets forgotten
- 10:30about and everybody like knows each
- 10:32other very well and stuff. So I think
- 10:34it's a good idea. What do you think?
- 10:36>> Yeah, I definitely think that. There's
- 10:37only like I walked around and got I got
- 10:39to see the sixth grade classroom and I
- 10:41saw everyone in it and it's a very small
- 10:43classroom. There's only like I think it
- 10:45was like ten-ish people in it. So it's I
- 10:47think it's going to be easier,
- 10:49definitely to like, you know, what you
- 10:50said.
- 10:51>> She said ten-ish. We say ish, it's like
- 10:54about ten.
- 10:54>> About ten.
- 10:56Could be eleven, could be nine,
- 10:57somewhere around there. You kind of just
- 10:59round up to the closest number.
- 11:00>> Sometimes we add ish to say like about
- 11:03that, you know. Like, oh, this is this
- 11:05is like grayish color, this thing. It's
- 11:08a grayish, like kind of gray.
- 11:10>> Yeah.
- 11:12>> All right. And so if you if you like it
- 11:14there and you want to stay, could you
- 11:16could you see yourself I mean, it's hard
- 11:18to know how you're going to feel, you
- 11:19know, in the future, but could you see
- 11:21yourself um staying there, you know, up
- 11:23through until you graduate high school
- 11:25or or what do you think?
- 11:27>> I definitely can. I think I'm going to
- 11:28see how this school year or like my the
- 11:30seventh grade goes because my mom has
- 11:32said I want you to at least try out this
- 11:34year. And then I'll see if I love it,
- 11:36I'll keep doing it. And if it's like,
- 11:38you know what, this is really like not
- 11:40for me, I'll go back to home school. But
- 11:42I'm really hoping it works out and I can
- 11:44get to go to there for longer.
- 11:45>> Nice. How far away is the school? Is
- 11:48your Is your mom going to drive you in
- 11:49the morning?
- 11:50>> Uh yes, my mom and my dad will drive me
- 11:52depending on who I am with. It's like
- 11:5520-25 minutes away from my dad and it's
- 11:58like 30-35 minutes away from my mom. So,
- 12:00relatively close.
- 12:01>> Oh yes, we forgot to mention her her
- 12:03parents are separated like mine are.
- 12:05We're at her mom's house right now. And
- 12:07but her dad lives somewhere else, like
- 12:0930-30 minutes away?
- 12:10>> Uh I think about like 40-45-ish, but
- 12:12yeah, pretty close.
- 12:13>> Okay. Uh her mom is remarried to um I'll
- 12:17let you say.
- 12:18>> Daniel. I love him so much. He is the
- 12:20best bonus dad ever.
- 12:22>> Uh bonus dad.
- 12:24And he's been in your life since you
- 12:25were very little, right?
- 12:26>> Yeah, he's been in my life since I was
- 12:28like uh three, maybe about to turn four,
- 12:31right around there. So yeah, and he was
- 12:33just I immediately loved him so much.
- 12:36He's just the nicest guy.
- 12:37>> Yeah, Daniel's pretty great.
- 12:39>> He is, definitely. And he's the only one
- 12:41who He's the one getting me my
- 12:43squishies. I have a squishy obsession.
- 12:44My mom's like, no. And he's like, yeah,
- 12:46I'll get you squishies.
- 12:47>> Yeah, Daniel likes to spoil everyone.
- 12:50>> Definitely, yeah. He likes to spoil my
- 12:51little sister, too.
- 12:53>> And for those who don't know, um can you
- 12:55describe what the squishy is?
- 12:57>> Uh squishies, there are several
- 12:59different kinds. It's like a toy and
- 13:01it's really fun to squish. They have
- 13:03like really nice textures, like slime,
- 13:07like they may have like slime in them or
- 13:10just really different fun textures. They
- 13:12may have like glitter or beads in them
- 13:13and I really love them and they're so
- 13:15cute and I love squishing them and I'm
- 13:16having a little collection now.
- 13:17>> Are they all like dumplings or they
- 13:19different things?
- 13:20>> Um I have six squishy dumplings. They're
- 13:23very viral right now. But um
- 13:26the others, I have 12 and the other six
- 13:29are different. They can really be like
- 13:31they're probably every shape in the
- 13:33world. Some are just like a square or
- 13:36like a cube, while others are actual
- 13:38things like butter or cheeses. I love my
- 13:40cheese. I love my cheese.
- 13:41>> Okay, so they can be different things,
- 13:43but the dumplings are popular.
- 13:44>> Yeah, the dumplings are probably my
- 13:45favorite.
- 13:46>> Okay. So, if you didn't understand um,
- 13:48to squish is like to do this to
- 13:50something. It's like a specific kind of
- 13:52texture thing where you can go like this
- 13:54and she has some I wouldn't just say
- 13:57that they're like stuffed animals.
- 13:58They're they're not like stuffed.
- 14:00They're just like
- 14:01>> rubbery.
- 14:01>> Yeah, they're like rubbery little
- 14:03creatures that are full of something
- 14:06that you can squish.
- 14:07>> Yeah, the dumplings are full of water
- 14:09and they have like
- 14:11like well, some are full of water and
- 14:13have glitter in them and then others
- 14:15kind of have this stuff kind of a whip
- 14:17creamy texture in it and it's I really
- 14:19like that one. So, yeah, they can
- 14:21definitely have a lot of different
- 14:22textures in it and they're really fun to
- 14:23squish.
- 14:24>> Okay. They they feel like fun to to play
- 14:27with. It's a it's like a texture thing.
- 14:29Yeah. All right, nice. Well, I'm going
- 14:32to take a look at my list here of some
- 14:35random questions to ask Samara. We are
- 14:37filming outside. It's pretty warm and my
- 14:39camera tends to overheat. So, it might
- 14:42just randomly shut off at at some point.
- 14:44So, if that happens, it's okay. We'll
- 14:46just cut it there. We'll just end the
- 14:48video there. So, if the video ends
- 14:50abruptly, that's what happened. But,
- 14:51yeah, so I'm just going to ask you
- 14:52questions until maybe it dies or maybe
- 14:55just a few questions until we get tired
- 14:56and yeah. So, I'll ask you a question
- 14:58and then you can you can take the mic
- 14:59and you can answer as long as you want.
- 15:01Okay, what's what's a movie or show you
- 15:04can watch over and over?
- 15:06>> Oh, okay. Um, there's this show series
- 15:09and it's called Gymnastic Academy and I
- 15:12love it so much. I've probably watched
- 15:14it like eight times over and over again.
- 15:16Like I said, I'm a gymnast and it's all
- 15:18about gymnastics. So, I really love that
- 15:21and it's it's really fun cuz it's like
- 15:23teenagers around my age. So, that's when
- 15:26I can just like watch over and over
- 15:27again, and I love it so much. It's like
- 15:29one of my favorite shows.
- 15:30>> That's cool. It's like they're like
- 15:32competing or something?
- 15:34>> Um it's this The main character is named
- 15:37Kyra Berry, and she goes from the US to
- 15:39Australia for a 3-month 3-month like
- 15:44training process to try to get a
- 15:45scholarship at the gymnastics academy
- 15:47for 3 years.
- 15:48>> But is it like real real life or reality
- 15:51show, or is it like fiction?
- 15:52>> Um it is not cartoon. It is uh like real
- 15:56reality kind of thing, but it is I think
- 15:59it's based off a true story, but it's
- 16:01not actually like a true story.
- 16:03>> Okay, I see. So, it it it's like a
- 16:05movie, maybe like a there's a script,
- 16:08but it's based off a true story.
- 16:10>> Yeah, it's a script because there was
- 16:12one before it. It's called gymna- It's
- 16:14like a It's the same thing, but it's
- 16:16just called Second Chance instead, and
- 16:18that one was based off a true story. I'm
- 16:20not sure if Gymnastic Academy is, but I
- 16:22think it might be.
- 16:23>> Do you recommend that people watch it?
- 16:25Is it entertaining? Is it good?
- 16:26>> Yes, I definitely recommend it. It's
- 16:28probably more of a girl show, but I
- 16:32think anyone who like wants to watch it,
- 16:34definitely watch it cuz it's really
- 16:36awesome, and I love it so much.
- 16:37>> All right, and it inspires you to do
- 16:39gymnastics?
- 16:40>> Uh actually, the whole reason I got into
- 16:41gymnastics was actually completely
- 16:44because of that show. I had had no
- 16:46interest in gymnastics my entire life,
- 16:49and then I watched that for the first
- 16:51time like 6 months ago, and now I'm just
- 16:54like got super into gymnas- gymnastics,
- 16:56and like trained myself, and learned a
- 16:57bunch about it.
- 16:58>> Amazing. Yeah, before she started
- 17:00gymnastics class, she she basically just
- 17:03trained herself a lot. She taught
- 17:05herself a lot of the a lot of things
- 17:08based off like YouTube videos and just
- 17:10practicing and stuff, right?
- 17:11>> Yeah, like people telling me stuff,
- 17:13YouTube videos, that show, definitely a
- 17:15lot. I taught myself almost everything I
- 17:17know, but gymnastics classes have
- 17:19definitely helped me get correct posture
- 17:21and that kind of stuff.
- 17:22>> And you're only in the beginner class,
- 17:24but like there's other levels you're
- 17:26going to you're going to keep advancing.
- 17:27>> Yes, there's beginner, advanced,
- 17:29pre-team, and then you're actually on a
- 17:31team. Um, yeah, and I'm really I'm
- 17:34definitely really loving it.
- 17:35>> And you told me that you're one of the
- 17:36best ones in your beginner class.
- 17:38>> I don't want to brag. I would I but I am
- 17:41one of the better ones in the class,
- 17:43which was really thanks to my training.
- 17:46Um, because if I hadn't, I would have
- 17:48been the worst one there. And then
- 17:49because of the training, I came in being
- 17:51one of the better ones. But there are
- 17:53definitely people who are better than me
- 17:55in the class.
- 17:56>> And have you made friends with any of
- 17:58them like to the point where you would
- 18:00hang out outside of gymnastics or not
- 18:02yet?
- 18:02>> Um, there's Elan. I would have hung out
- 18:06with her cuz we were like we're best
- 18:08friends in the class, but she went away.
- 18:10She's going away to summer camp for 4
- 18:11months. So that kind of ended that, but
- 18:14she's coming back. Or she said she is. I
- 18:15hope she will.
- 18:16>> Nice. Cool. Is there something like some
- 18:19other hobby or anything that you you've
- 18:22you would like to try or you're
- 18:23interested in but you haven't done it
- 18:25yet?
- 18:25>> I don't know if there is another hobby
- 18:28that I haven't tried that I'd like to
- 18:30do. My other hobbies are like I do
- 18:32soccer. I love soccer, but I've done
- 18:35that. And then like yeah, most of my
- 18:37hobbies I think I've already done that
- 18:39I'm interested in doing.
- 18:40>> All right, nice. And anything else like
- 18:42in life in general doesn't have to be
- 18:44like a like a hobby or something. It
- 18:45could be like, oh, I you know, I would
- 18:48like to see New York City or what like
- 18:50anything that you would like to do. I
- 18:51would like to learn how to bake a pie. I
- 18:54don't know. Anything that you would like
- 18:56to do at some point in the future.
- 18:58>> Baking is one of my hobbies. I love
- 18:59baking. So I'd become a better baker.
- 19:02But then a lot of the things that I
- 19:03would like to learn how to do have to do
- 19:04with gymnastics. Like I am so close on a
- 19:07back walkover or like a front walkover
- 19:09or front handspring, and I'd just love
- 19:11to learn how to do those. That'd be
- 19:12really awesome.
- 19:13>> I love it. And she sends me videos, you
- 19:15know, because most of the time I'm not
- 19:17here. Right now I'm I'm visiting, but um
- 19:19most of the time I'm I'm out of the
- 19:21country, and um Samara texts me. She
- 19:24sends me videos of her at her uh
- 19:26gymnastics classes and and doing the
- 19:28different things. And yeah, it's very
- 19:30entertaining for me. I love it. I love
- 19:32getting the videos.
- 19:33>> I'm glad. Yeah, I sent you I remember I
- 19:34sent you I was like, "Yeah, I got my
- 19:35pullover on the bar." Cuz I was so
- 19:37happy. Yeah, it's it's it's awesome.
- 19:40>> It's my favorite reality show. I watch.
- 19:42>> I'm so glad.
- 19:43>> All right. What quality do you most
- 19:45value in a friend?
- 19:47>> I in a friend value probably kindness. I
- 19:51definitely love like that's something I
- 19:53look for in a person, but I really like
- 19:56one of the best qualities is if they're
- 19:57funny. I love funny friends, but funny
- 20:01in a kind way. But I love when you get
- 20:02comfortable enough with them where you
- 20:04can make jokes that are like really
- 20:08funny. But yeah, kindness, funniness,
- 20:10creativity. Like I like creative
- 20:13friends, and my friend Autumn definitely
- 20:15is. We like the same stuff. We both love
- 20:17swimming, and we always come up with all
- 20:19these very creative fun games that we
- 20:21do, and we're always like laughing
- 20:23so hard.
- 20:23>> You think Autumn has these these traits
- 20:25that you value in a friend?
- 20:27>> Yes, I would definitely say she is
- 20:28funny, kind, and creative. And she is
- 20:30also strong and smart, and she's
- 20:32amazing.
- 20:33>> Aw, that's so cute. I wish I had a best
- 20:35friend like that.
- 20:36>> [laughter]
- 20:37>> I don't have one. Well, it's partially
- 20:39my fault because I always travel around
- 20:41so much. I never stay anywhere to to
- 20:43make friends. Next one is who has
- 20:46influenced you the most in life?
- 20:48>> Well, um so many people. So many people.
- 20:51Uh I'd have to say my parents. Um like
- 20:54my mom, my dad, Daniel, um
- 20:58Kelly, definitely. They have all
- 21:01>> Kelly is uh your dad's partner.
- 21:03>> Yes, Kelly's my dad's partner. They
- 21:04definitely have all in
- 21:07me so much and then like coming back to
- 21:10gymnastics like Simone Biles. She's like
- 21:13such a great gymnast and she's
- 21:14definitely inspired me to be a better
- 21:16gymnast.
- 21:17>> Simone Biles is cool.
- 21:18>> Yeah, she's awesome. She's like won so
- 21:19many Olympic medals.
- 21:21>> Yeah, it's amazing. Yeah, gymnastics is
- 21:23super cool. Also, it's it's very good
- 21:25for us, I think, to to stretch, to be
- 21:28flexible, um to to be mobile, move our
- 21:31bodies. I think as we get older, as we
- 21:33age, to be able to move our bodies still
- 21:37like in those ways, I think it's very
- 21:38good for our health. So, this is this is
- 21:40a great thing for you to practice your
- 21:42whole life, even if it's like not, you
- 21:44know, not competitively, but even just
- 21:45like by yourself at home. I mean, a lot
- 21:47of adults they do yoga, which is like
- 21:49has similar things. So, yeah, it's a
- 21:51really cool hobby. I'm glad you like it.
- 21:54>> Thank you.
- 21:55>> All right, maybe we'll do one more
- 21:56question and then we'll end it. All
- 21:58right, uh unless there's anything else
- 21:59you wanted to talk about or anything
- 22:01that crossed your mind. All right, what
- 22:04is Oh, this is a funny one. What's
- 22:06something you believed as a kid or when
- 22:09you were younger that turned out to be
- 22:11totally wrong? If you can't think of
- 22:13anything, don't worry about it.
- 22:14>> Um let's see. Like for something, I
- 22:19think when I was little, I believed in
- 22:23like lying a lot, I guess. I was
- 22:26definitely a fibber and now I like can't
- 22:27even lie, but like I yeah, I liked to
- 22:30sneak around a lot. I remember one time
- 22:32there was a peanut butter cup, that's
- 22:34really yummy candy um on the island and
- 22:36I was like, "Oh, if I eat it, someone's
- 22:38going to notice." So, I took a bite out
- 22:39of it and then left it, which was like
- 22:41way more noticeable and I was so sneaky.
- 22:44I thought I was like so awesome and it
- 22:45was like that was pretty obvious.
- 22:47>> [laughter]
- 22:47>> That's just one of my mischievous things
- 22:49I do.
- 22:51>> So, you used to tell some some fibs. A
- 22:53fib is a a little lie, like a small lie,
- 22:56white lie, we say. So, you used to be a
- 22:58fibber. You used to lie a little bit.
- 23:00>> Yeah, I used to do like harmless little
- 23:02lies, but I thought it was like so
- 23:03clever back then. Now now I literally
- 23:05can't lie. It makes me feel sick.
- 23:06>> Yeah. [laughter] Yeah, same. It's very
- 23:07hard to lie. But yeah, a lot of little
- 23:09kids they they don't realize that it
- 23:12that the parents can obviously see that
- 23:14it's a lie. They they think they'll get
- 23:16away with it. So they they tell little
- 23:18lies. It's funny.
- 23:19>> Yeah.
- 23:19>> It's cute.
- 23:20>> Then when you get older, you also have
- 23:22like the conscience that makes you feel
- 23:24guilty when you lie. And when you're
- 23:25little, you don't really have that.
- 23:26>> It's good. You you develop the conscious
- 23:29conscience to not lie. It's good. Cuz
- 23:31some people don't ever develop that.
- 23:32>> [laughter]
- 23:33>> Some adults are out here lying.
- 23:34>> [snorts]
- 23:35>> Yeah, some people gets worse. Just
- 23:36slowly the lies build.
- 23:38>> They just get better at lying and it
- 23:40gets crazy.
- 23:41>> Yeah, I didn't rob the bank.
- 23:42>> [laughter]
- 23:44>> Exactly. So I'm glad that that's not
- 23:46you. All right. Well, I said that was
- 23:48the last question, but I want to do one
- 23:49more. So
- 23:50>> [laughter]
- 23:50>> I'm fine with that.
- 23:52>> What's a challenge you're proud to have
- 23:54overcome?
- 23:55>> There's definitely a few. One is that
- 23:59when I was younger, I was very not okay
- 24:03with being left alone at all. And I've
- 24:05definitely overcome that where I'm okay
- 24:07to be like, yeah, I'm fine if I leave
- 24:08like left at home alone with Farah. Like
- 24:10it's okay now. Another one definitely
- 24:12with gymnastics. Getting better
- 24:14gymnastics, I overcame a lot there.
- 24:16Overcoming that when I was younger, I
- 24:18struggled with reading a little bit.
- 24:21Not like badly, but I'm the kind of
- 24:23person that I have to want to do it. And
- 24:26if I don't want to do it, I'm not going
- 24:27to try to do it. And then it just like I
- 24:30found a book that I loved and it took
- 24:32off. And now I'm like like I read way
- 24:35above my grade level. So yeah, it's
- 24:37awesome.
- 24:38>> Wow. So you went from not wanting to
- 24:41read or having resistance to reading to
- 24:43being like a better reader than than
- 24:45normal for your for your age.
- 24:47>> Yeah. Yeah, it was kind of kind of went
- 24:49in steps where I wouldn't read and then
- 24:51I was definitely not that good at
- 24:52reading. And then I was kind of like
- 24:54average and then I just there I found
- 24:57came across some books like Wings of
- 25:00Fire. I love the dragon books. And then
- 25:02like Keep It Together, Keko Carter, Just
- 25:04Be Cool, Jessica Kai. And those are long
- 25:06chapter books, and I just fell in love
- 25:08with them, and now I just like read all
- 25:10the time like ninth grade level. So
- 25:12>> Wow, that's awesome. It's amazing. And I
- 25:14know well, when I was here in past
- 25:17years, you were always listening to the
- 25:18audio books. You always liked that. You
- 25:20always liked I think you always liked
- 25:22books, but you would spend more time
- 25:23maybe listening to them. Maybe now you
- 25:25read more of them. And you also always
- 25:27liked writing. You like to write your
- 25:29own stories, right?
- 25:30>> Yes, I love the audio books, and I my
- 25:33dream job, um which I hope will become
- 25:35true, is I want to be an author, 100%. I
- 25:38like language arts is my favorite
- 25:39subject in school. I love writing so
- 25:42much. I'm currently working on two
- 25:44books. One somebody said, "Hey, I want
- 25:46you to try to make a story out of this."
- 25:48It's called Gnome's Adventure. And then
- 25:50the other, I am like 70 pages in. I'm
- 25:53writing it by hand. And I just came up
- 25:55with this. Uh it's about a girl called
- 25:57Paisley like managing middle school kind
- 25:59of. And I just I love writing. I don't
- 26:01know what it is about it, but I love it
- 26:03so much.
- 26:04>> Wow, amazing. I love it. I'm excited to
- 26:06read your book someday.
- 26:07>> Yes.
- 26:08>> I I will buy your books as soon as
- 26:09they're published. Well, even before
- 26:11they're published, I'll buy them.
- 26:12I'll [laughter] read them.
- 26:13>> Yes, it'll be you'll you'll have the
- 26:14privilege of being one of the first ones
- 26:16before they're even published.
- 26:17>> Yeah, before anyone knows or before she
- 26:19becomes famous, a famous author, I will
- 26:21read her books.
- 26:22>> [laughter]
- 26:23>> That's awesome. My mom was like that she
- 26:25always wanted to write books, but but
- 26:27she Well, she wrote one. She had one,
- 26:29but um I think she wanted to do more,
- 26:31but but yeah, I think you got the you
- 26:33got that spark. You got that fire, and
- 26:35you should definitely do it.
- 26:36>> Yeah, thank you. Everyone always says
- 26:38like you have that talent that you can
- 26:40really bring it to life, and I can
- 26:41picture it perfectly. And I hope that's
- 26:43really true because yeah, like I said it
- 26:45is. I love writing. I definitely want to
- 26:47make more books. Um the one I'm working
- 26:49on right now with Paisley, um I'm it's
- 26:51going to be a series of three. I'm only
- 26:53on the first book right now and I'm
- 26:55really happy. It's going to be like it's
- 26:57going to be called BFFs and the first
- 26:58one's going to be like starting middle
- 27:00school and the second one's going to be
- 27:01managing middle school and then the last
- 27:03one's going to be pro at middle school.
- 27:05So.
- 27:05>> You You big plans. You already got it
- 27:07all planned out. Amazing.
- 27:08>> Yes. Yeah, I definitely have the names
- 27:10planned out. I plan a lot but I'm one of
- 27:12the um, kind of authors that more of I
- 27:15have an overall vision of where I want
- 27:17the books to go but I more write in the
- 27:19moment. plan things out like as much as
- 27:22some authors would.
- 27:22>> You see where it goes. Yeah.
- 27:24>> Yeah.
- 27:24>> Nice. That's That's amazing. You have a
- 27:26You have a vision and I'm here for it. I
- 27:28love it.
- 27:29>> [laughter]
- 27:30>> Awesome. Well, um, hopefully one day
- 27:32I'll be able to announce on this channel
- 27:33that uh, she has a book available to
- 27:35read and you guys can read it and um,
- 27:37practice your English English reading.
- 27:39So, that's it. I I think we'll end it
- 27:41there. Thank you, Samara, for for coming
- 27:43on the show.
- 27:44>> Thank you for inviting me. Thank you so
- 27:45much.
- 27:46>> I didn't put the mic
- 27:47>> It's okay.
- 27:47>> [laughter]
- 27:47>> Thank you for the
- 27:48>> What was she saying? I just She didn't
- 27:49put the mic.
- 27:50>> Thank you for inviting me so much. It
- 27:51was such an honor. Thank you.
- 27:53>> Aw. Isn't she great? Can you believe
- 27:55she's She's 12 years old? Well, she's
- 27:57going to be 13 in August. Yeah, she's
- 27:59she's so grown up. I can't believe it
- 28:01cuz last time I was here, you know, she
- 28:02was like a couple years younger, few
- 28:04years younger and so I'm a I'm amazed
- 28:06every time I come here to see the the
- 28:09the growth. Um, so yeah. So, we're going
- 28:11to go. I'm going to let Samara go and
- 28:13get back to her life and thank you for
- 28:15being here. Tell Tell me in the comments
- 28:17what you thought about her her English
- 28:19like how easy or difficult it was for
- 28:21you. I think it was pretty good. Samara
- 28:23has like I would say she has a standard
- 28:26American English accent which I think
- 28:29that I have too. A lot of young people,
- 28:31younger generations, they have this
- 28:33accent. Our Our grandparents have like a
- 28:35more like traditional Maine accent but
- 28:39the younger generations I think don't
- 28:40really have it so much anymore so
- 28:42strongly.
- 28:43>> Yeah, definitely.
- 28:44>> Yeah, I'd say I I think of myself having
- 28:45an accent cuz this is how everyone
- 28:47talks, but obviously from someone who
- 28:48speaks another language, probably sound
- 28:50like an accent. But like I definitely
- 28:51think of my grandma having an accent,
- 28:53very minor accent.
- 28:54>> Yeah, we a lot of the young people we
- 28:57what we have is the I call it the
- 28:59standard American English accent, you
- 29:01know, it's the accent you hear when you
- 29:02turn on the TV and it's, you know, what
