3 Disturbing TRUE Horror Stories — Transcript

- 0:12I'm sharing this experience to encourage
- 0:14others to be more careful when being
- 0:16somewhere alone at night, especially at
- 0:18rest areas.
- 0:20This incident occurred [clears throat]
- 0:21not too long ago. This happened in North
- 0:24Carolina while I was traveling with my
- 0:26dad, who's a truck driver.
- 0:28I joined him for a few days on the road
- 0:30to gain some experience because I'm
- 0:31interested in getting my CDL in a few
- 0:33years. We're from Georgia, so the drive
- 0:35to North Carolina wasn't long and we
- 0:37arrived basically the same day.
- 0:40The delivery was scheduled for early the
- 0:41next morning, around 12:00 or 1:00 a.m.
- 0:44We stopped at a rest area for the night.
- 0:47The parking lot was full of trucks, but
- 0:49the restrooms were completely empty,
- 0:51likely because most drivers were asleep
- 0:53in preparation for early deliveries.
- 0:55As soon as we parked, my dad went
- 0:57straight to sleep. I'm usually a night
- 1:00owl, so I stayed awake.
- 1:02Around 2:00 a.m., I decided to use the
- 1:04restroom. I also brought my razor with
- 1:06me so I could line up my mustache,
- 1:08assuming no one would be inside at that
- 1:10hour and that I'd feel free and
- 1:12comfortable taking my time since I
- 1:14usually only do that at home.
- 1:16When you enter the restroom, there's
- 1:17[music] two sections, one on the left
- 1:20and one on the right. I went to the left
- 1:22side and noticed a man standing near the
- 1:24urinal. He was very tall, at least
- 1:27around [music] 6'4". I didn't think much
- 1:29of it and went into a stall to use the
- 1:31bathroom.
- 1:32Afterward, I washed my hands. I noticed
- 1:35that he was still standing there.
- 1:37Just as I was about to leave, he
- 1:38unzipped his pants and began using the
- 1:40urinal.
- 1:42I felt uncomfortable, but I didn't think
- 1:44much of it at the time still.
- 1:46>> [music]
- 1:46>> To make it seem like I had left, I went
- 1:48to the right side of the restroom
- 1:49instead.
- 1:50I stood in front of the mirror to line
- 1:52up my mustache. However, around 10
- 1:55seconds later, the same man entered that
- 1:57side of the restroom. This immediately
- 1:59raised concern.
- 2:01He had already been on the other side,
- 2:02so there was no clear reason for him to
- 2:04follow me.
- 2:06He started walking toward me, and as
- 2:08soon as I took out my razor, he [music]
- 2:09suddenly stopped directly behind me. He
- 2:12looked shocked, almost as if something
- 2:14hadn't gone the way he expected. At that
- 2:16point, I felt genuinely uneasy.
- 2:19I continued lining up my mustache as
- 2:21quickly as possible without messing it
- 2:22up, trying to remain calm. Through the
- 2:25mirror, I noticed him walk to a urinal
- 2:27and pretend to unzip his pants.
- 2:29When I looked back at him, he was
- 2:31staring directly at me, pretending to
- 2:33use the urinal. He nodded at me, and I
- 2:36nodded back, not because I felt
- 2:37comfortable, but because I didn't want
- 2:39him to think I was aware that he was up
- 2:41to something.
- 2:42A few seconds later, he entered an empty
- 2:44stall.
- 2:45When I glanced back, he was standing
- 2:47completely still in the corner of the
- 2:49stall, staring directly at me with wide
- 2:51eyes. I pretended not to notice. About
- 2:5420 seconds later, he returned to the
- 2:56urinal and again pretended to unzip his
- 2:58pants, briefly looking at me before
- 3:00turning away.
- 3:02Once I finished lining up my mustache, I
- 3:04left immediately. As I passed him, I
- 3:06kept the razor in my hand in case I
- 3:08needed to use it to defend myself,
- 3:10considering I had to walk past him to
- 3:11get out. While I'm not short or weak, he
- 3:14was much taller and appeared to be at
- 3:16least 20 years older than me.
- 3:18Considering I'm 5'9" and he looked like
- 3:20he was in his late 30s or 40s, I knew he
- 3:23could easily overpower me. I exited the
- 3:25restroom and noticed security cameras
- 3:27near the entrance, which gave me some
- 3:29relief.
- 3:30The man did not follow me, thank God. I
- 3:32was flooded with relief.
- 3:34I turned to the truck where my dad was
- 3:36still asleep, along with all the other
- 3:38drivers in the lot. I told a friend what
- 3:40happened, and about 20 minutes later, he
- 3:42replied. He suggested I go back to the
- 3:44restroom on FaceTime with him, which I
- 3:46did for some reason.
- 3:48However, the man was gone. I explained
- 3:50everything in detail and showed my
- 3:52friend where the guy had stood and been
- 3:54before. Then I left the restroom about 5
- 3:56minutes later [music] and ended the call
- 3:58since he had to go. As I stepped outside
- 4:00again, I noticed a separate parking lot
- 4:02behind the rest area for passenger
- 4:04vehicles. One red car had its headlights
- 4:07on and was the only car illuminated.
- 4:09When I turned to look at it, the
- 4:11headlights immediately shut off. I
- 4:13couldn't see who was inside due to the
- 4:14darkness and distance.
- 4:16I don't know if the driver just got
- 4:18there and was parking, leaving, or
- 4:20possibly even the same man from earlier,
- 4:22but the timing unsettled me.
- 4:24I went back to the truck where my dad
- 4:26was still asleep. Nothing else happened
- 4:28that night. I returned to my normal
- 4:30life. However, I never told my dad about
- 4:32the incident because he's very strict
- 4:34and had only recently started letting me
- 4:36go outside alone.
- 4:37I was 17 at the time and I knew telling
- 4:40him would likely result in him not
- 4:41letting me go outside alone again until
- 4:43I turned 18, which then I would be
- 4:45independent and can go wherever.
- 4:47The only person I told about this was my
- 4:49friend. Afterward, I tried to
- 4:51rationalize what happened. The man
- 4:53didn't appear homeless or on drugs, but
- 4:56the way he was acting was far from
- 4:57normal. He had clean clothes and a
- 4:59well-kept beard, so I doubt he was
- 5:01homeless or a crackhead. Still, what
- 5:04continues to bother me is what he was
- 5:05planning and why he acted the way he
- 5:07did. And what will creep me out forever
- 5:09about that night is what would have
- 5:10happened if I hadn't had my razor with
- 5:12me.
- 5:13Since that incident, I've become much
- 5:15more careful about my surroundings, even
- 5:17during the day, and I avoid going out
- 5:19alone late at night.
- 5:32I'm a woman in my early 20s and I've
- 5:34lived in New York City my whole life, so
- 5:36navigating the MTA at any time of day or
- 5:38night is second nature to me. For
- 5:40context, my one-way commute from the
- 5:42city to home is about 2 hours each way,
- 5:44involving two trains, a 30-minute bus
- 5:47ride, and then a dimly lit five-block
- 5:49walk home. After doing it for so many
- 5:51years, I usually don't think twice about
- 5:53it, but there are two nights I still
- 5:55replay in my head all the time. The
- 5:57first instance happened on the train. I
- 5:59had just stepped on right before the
- 6:01doors closed,
- 6:02>> [music]
- 6:02>> so I stayed standing near them. I had
- 6:04headphones in, but I could faintly hear
- 6:06a homeless man saying something at me.
- 6:08At first, I ignored it, assuming he was
- 6:10talking to himself, but he kept staring
- 6:12directly at me.
- 6:14So, I took out one earbud and asked what
- 6:15he said. That's when I clearly heard him
- 6:18angrily insult me and call me a
- 6:20My heart instantly started pounding. I
- 6:22still remember how hot my ears and face
- 6:24felt. It was like all the blood rushed
- 6:27straight to my skin.
- 6:28I started trying to make eye contact
- 6:30with other passengers, silently hoping
- 6:32someone else would acknowledge what was
- 6:34happening, but nobody would hold my gaze
- 6:36for more than a second. Everyone just
- 6:38looked away. At the next stop, even
- 6:40though it wasn't my stop, I got off and
- 6:42quickly moved into the next car over,
- 6:44desperately hoping the man wouldn't come
- 6:46out and notice where I went. The
- 6:48unsettling part is that this honestly
- 6:50isn't even unusual while commuting in
- 6:52New York.
- 6:53Most of the time you just keep your head
- 6:54down and try not to engage with whoever
- 6:56the aggressor is.
- 6:58Still, I kept glancing through the train
- 7:00windows, waiting to see if he followed
- 7:02me.
- 7:03Two stops later, I finally saw him step
- 7:06off the train.
- 7:07>> [music]
- 7:07>> I didn't even realize I'd been holding
- 7:08my breath until the doors closed behind
- 7:10him.
- 7:12The second instance happened when I was
- 7:14in grad school. I had night classes that
- 7:16ended around 8:30 p.m., so by the time I
- 7:19caught the bus home, it would usually be
- 7:21well after 10:00. Late-night bus rides
- 7:24always feel different, quieter, and more
- 7:26unpredictable.
- 7:27Usually, the drivers only stop if
- 7:29someone pulls the string or requests it.
- 7:32That night, I was listening to horror
- 7:33stories during my [music] commute, and
- 7:35the specific story I was listening to
- 7:37was about a woman being followed. So,
- 7:39when I got off the bus, I remember
- 7:41lowering the volume and becoming extra
- 7:43aware of my surroundings.
- 7:45The final part of my commute requires me
- 7:47to walk past a couple of stores before
- 7:48turning down a dark residential dead-end
- 7:50street with terrible lighting. One of
- 7:53the stores I pass is a Popeyes. I
- 7:55remember debating whether or not I
- 7:56wanted mac and cheese, but I had already
- 7:58passed the store and was almost at the
- 8:00end of the block before deciding to turn
- 8:02around and go back. That's when I
- 8:04noticed the man from the bus. Up until
- 8:06that moment, I hadn't paid attention to
- 8:08him at all. The second I changed
- 8:10direction, he literally stopped walking.
- 8:13Like he froze. Then he just stared at me
- 8:16wide-eyed.
- 8:17It immediately made me uneasy, but I
- 8:19tried to brush it off and went into
- 8:21Popeyes anyway. They barely had anything
- 8:23left because it was so late. So after a
- 8:25minute, I left and continued heading
- 8:27home.
- 8:28It wasn't until I was halfway down the
- 8:30block that I noticed him again. He was
- 8:32standing right at the entrance of the
- 8:34dark street I had to turn down. He was
- 8:36just standing there waiting.
- 8:38At that point, my pace slowed
- 8:39immediately and I called my brother.
- 8:42He's usually never home, so the fact
- 8:43that he answered honestly felt like a
- 8:45miracle. I think he could hear something
- 8:47was wrong from my voice alone because
- 8:49the second I told him I was by Popeyes,
- 8:51he immediately said he was coming to
- 8:52meet me.
- 8:53Knowing my brother was on the way, I
- 8:55finally turned down the dark street and
- 8:56passed the man. And then I heard
- 8:58footsteps behind me.
- 9:00The man had started walking, too. He
- 9:02stayed behind me matching my pace. And
- 9:04then he quietly told me that he loved me
- 9:06before mumbling other things that I
- 9:07couldn't understand. At that point, I
- 9:10decided it was safer to stay somewhere
- 9:11with light. So I walked back to the
- 9:13store area and waited outside a liquor
- 9:15store nearby. Since I live in the
- 9:17neighborhood, I recognized a lot of the
- 9:19men who usually hung around there. And I
- 9:21remember scanning the area hoping to
- 9:22spot a familiar face.
- 9:24But that night, I didn't recognize
- 9:26anyone. That's when the man approached
- 9:28me.
- 9:29He repeatedly asked if I needed help and
- 9:31insisted that he could help me while
- 9:32slowly moving closer.
- 9:34I said no loudly more than once. And
- 9:37honestly, if he genuinely thought I was
- 9:39lost and wanted to help, that would be
- 9:41one thing. But I was clearly saying no
- 9:43over and over, and he just kept
- 9:44advancing toward me anyway. Then I
- 9:46noticed he was wearing latex gloves.
- 9:49This was post-COVID, so my immediate
- 9:51thought was that if he was that
- 9:53cautious, why wasn't he wearing a face
- 9:54mask, too? And it wasn't even cold
- 9:57outside, so the gloves looked completely
- 9:59out of place.
- 10:00Then he started repeatedly telling me
- 10:02that I needed to go home, almost like he
- 10:04was trying to pressure me into walking
- 10:05past him again.
- 10:07A few seconds later, he walked into the
- 10:09liquor store, and the second I saw him
- 10:11move further inside, I turned the corner
- 10:13where my brother was finally walking
- 10:14toward me. The entire situation probably
- 10:17lasted 5 minutes at most, but it felt so
- 10:19much longer than that.
- 10:21That's the strange thing about moments
- 10:23like these. They happen fast afterward
- 10:25when you replay them in your head, but
- 10:27while you're living through them, time
- 10:29barely moves.
- 10:42The story I'm about to tell is truly one
- 10:44of the most terrifying things that has
- 10:45ever happened to me, and is a prime
- 10:47example of how a great night can quickly
- 10:49[music] turn into a real-life nightmare.
- 10:52These events took place a couple of
- 10:53years ago when I was 19. Now, I'm almost
- 10:5626. [music] However, I clearly remember
- 10:59all the details, and honestly, I still
- 11:01can't really explain what happened.
- 11:04For some context, [music]
- 11:05I'm from a relatively large city in
- 11:07Southern Europe. My neighborhood
- 11:09consists of small houses and some
- 11:11residential buildings. Nothing out of
- 11:13the ordinary. No sketchy places or
- 11:15abandoned houses.
- 11:17>> [music]
- 11:17>> To be fair, it's quite boring from time
- 11:19to time. Plus, I know personally all of
- 11:21my neighbors, so I've always felt safe
- 11:23living there.
- 11:24Back in those days, my life pretty much
- 11:26consisted of going to my lectures at
- 11:28university, then going back home to
- 11:29study for my exams, getting some sleep,
- 11:31[music]
- 11:32and doing the same thing for entire
- 11:33weeks.
- 11:35I didn't have much free time at all. One
- 11:37Friday, though, my parents decided to
- 11:39visit some relatives from a different
- 11:40city. They were going to arrive there in
- 11:42the afternoon, stay on Saturday, and
- 11:45come back sometime on Sunday.
- 11:47This meant one thing. I had the house
- 11:49for myself during the weekends. What
- 11:51could be better for a young guy like me
- 11:53at the time?
- 11:54I enjoyed being alone at home ever since
- 11:56I was a kid. This was also a perfect
- 11:58opportunity to invite my friends [music]
- 11:59over since, as I said, I didn't get to
- 12:01see them that often because of studying.
- 12:04So, I called them, and they agreed to
- 12:05hang out on Saturday. We were going to
- 12:07order [music] food, play video games,
- 12:09and just catch up with each other. There
- 12:11was just another thing I had to do
- 12:12before [music] the weekends. I had
- 12:14completely forgotten that on Friday
- 12:16evening, the annual geography quiz was
- 12:18going to take place [music] at my
- 12:19university. I had to go since I already
- 12:22promised my peers. Plus, I had nothing
- 12:24else to do that [music] evening. I
- 12:25thought it might be fun, and not to brag
- 12:27about it, but I've always been good at
- 12:29such quizzes.
- 12:30The evening went smoothly. My university
- 12:33friends and I formed a team of six
- 12:34people. There were a total of 10
- 12:36different teams which were going to take
- 12:37part in the competition.
- 12:39The students hall we were in was packed
- 12:41to the brim. I didn't expect so many
- 12:43people to show up, actually. We were
- 12:45enjoying the night. Free food and
- 12:47beverages were being [music] served for
- 12:48everyone. The atmosphere was great in
- 12:51general, and just like that, we were at
- 12:53the last question of the quiz, and soon
- 12:55after, it was time for the results
- 12:56[music] to be announced. To my surprise,
- 12:58our group finished second out of 10
- 13:00teams. We got a small award, took a
- 13:02photo together, and it was finally time
- 13:04to go home. My friends and I parted
- 13:06ways, and I hurried to catch the last
- 13:08subway. The city where I'm [music] from
- 13:10doesn't have a metro system running all
- 13:11night, which, to be fair, kind of sucks.
- 13:14Anyways, I got off at my station, and
- 13:16now I was walking 10 minutes away from
- 13:18my house.
- 13:19This was in the beginning of October, so
- 13:21[music] the weather was getting kind of
- 13:22cold. Plus, I was tired. I just wanted
- 13:25to get home, eat some microwave noodles,
- 13:27and go to bed. What I heard next was one
- 13:30of the loudest, most bloodcurdling
- 13:31screams that I've ever heard in my
- 13:33entire life.
- 13:37>> [groaning]
- 13:38>> It was a human scream, a man's to be
- 13:40more specific, but it sounded as if the
- 13:42person was getting his arm cut off, like
- 13:44he was in excruciating pain. I stopped
- 13:47immediately in my tracks and tried to
- 13:49look [music] around so I could see where
- 13:50it came from. It was so strange because
- 13:52that whole street was completely quiet.
- 13:54Most of the houses, if not all of them,
- 13:56had already turned their lights off. I
- 13:58was actually freaked out for a second
- 14:00because the whole situation was so
- 14:02unexpected, but then another scream
- 14:04followed.
- 14:07This time I managed to get a better
- 14:08understanding of the direction it was
- 14:10coming from. It was the direction of my
- 14:12house. I rushed to get home. I wasn't
- 14:15running, but I tried my best to walk as
- 14:17fast as [music] I could while constantly
- 14:18looking over my shoulder and carefully
- 14:20listening for some movements near me.
- 14:22As I was just turning right at the
- 14:24corner near my house, I saw a group of
- 14:26four, maybe five people in the distance.
- 14:29They were probably 200 yd away from me.
- 14:31As soon as they saw me, all of them
- 14:33started running toward my direction. I
- 14:35was taken aback by this. I asked myself
- 14:38why on earth someone would do that just
- 14:39by seeing a random person [music] on the
- 14:41street. My instincts kicked in and told
- 14:43me to run this time. My house was right
- 14:46between my position and theirs, but
- 14:48luckily much closer to me than the group
- 14:49of people who were now shouting some
- 14:51unintelligible things. I got to my front
- 14:53door and just as I was trying [music] to
- 14:55unlock it, my keys fell on the ground
- 14:57like in a movie.
- 14:59I picked them up, but before turning the
- 15:01key, I decided to have a final glance at
- 15:03those men. All of them were
- 15:05homeless-looking with dirty, ripped
- 15:07clothes. Seeing this, I knew I did the
- 15:09right thing to run. Finally, I got into
- 15:11my house [music] then closed and locked
- 15:13the door as fast as I could. I was
- 15:15breathing so heavily and all kinds of
- 15:17thoughts were going through my mind. For
- 15:19example, that they were going to break
- 15:20in any second now and that my parents
- 15:22were not at home, meaning I was all
- 15:24alone.
- 15:25I stayed and listened [music] next to
- 15:26the door in complete darkness for what
- 15:28felt like an eternity, but it was
- 15:30probably a couple [music] of minutes.
- 15:32Nothing happened. Everything was silent
- 15:34outside. This was somewhat reassuring,
- 15:36but very weird at the same time. Deep
- 15:39down, I knew the [music] danger had not
- 15:40passed yet, and most likely the
- 15:42attackers were still out there.
- 15:44After a minute or so, I slowly got up
- 15:46and went to look through the window.
- 15:48There was no one. I went to the other
- 15:50window near the kitchen, and yet again
- 15:52couldn't see anyone.
- 15:53>> [music]
- 15:53>> Just an empty street with the wind
- 15:55blowing the tree branches. Still, I
- 15:57decided it would be better to dial 112
- 15:59and report all the strange things which
- 16:01happened that night. I explained
- 16:03everything to the lady on the phone,
- 16:04including the screams I heard earlier.
- 16:06To be honest, she wasn't so helpful at
- 16:08first. [music] For some reason, she kept
- 16:10asking me multiple times if I knew the
- 16:12people who ran after me, and since I
- 16:14wasn't harmed, they pretty much can't do
- 16:16anything.
- 16:17At the end, [music] she said she'll send
- 16:18a police car to patrol the area, and
- 16:20that they'll keep me updated if they see
- 16:22anything suspicious. I thanked her and
- 16:24got off the phone.
- 16:26Maybe 15 or 20 minutes later, I saw a
- 16:28police [music] car moving slowly through
- 16:30the neighborhood and passing my house.
- 16:32This was when I decided it was time to
- 16:34get [music] some sleep, simply because I
- 16:35was so exhausted. It was way past
- 16:38midnight at that point.
- 16:39The next morning,
- 16:40>> [music]
- 16:41>> I tried my best not to think of the
- 16:42events from last night, but there were
- 16:44so many questions in my head that still
- 16:45remained unanswered. My best friend
- 16:48called and said our other friend is
- 16:49feeling sick, so he won't be coming
- 16:51today. So, it was just me and him
- 16:53hanging out at my house all day.
- 16:55Before him leaving, I decided to briefly
- 16:57mention yesterday's story without much
- 16:59details, so I didn't get him worried. We
- 17:01joked about it, but at the same time, I
- 17:03saw he was genuinely concerned about me.
- 17:06My parents called too and asked if
- 17:08everything was okay. I said yes, since I
- 17:10knew how easily my mom gets worried.
- 17:13I was going to tell them, but I wanted
- 17:14to to it after they arrived back home.
- 17:17In the evening before bed, I
- 17:18double-checked all the doors and windows
- 17:20in the house if they were locked. I
- 17:22turned on a movie on the TV and I slowly
- 17:24started forgetting everything that
- 17:26happened last night until maybe an hour
- 17:28into the movie. I could swear I heard a
- 17:30loud bang from outside. It sounded like
- 17:32someone threw a rock at the house. I
- 17:34grabbed the remote and turned the TV off
- 17:36so I could better hear. I wasn't sure if
- 17:38it really happened or the paranoia was
- 17:40making me hear things. Again, complete
- 17:42silence. I didn't know what games were
- 17:44being played here but slowly the fear
- 17:46was turning into annoyance and anger. I
- 17:48peeked through the window of my bedroom
- 17:50which is on the second floor facing the
- 17:51street and everything seemed normal. I
- 17:54decided to stay awake and alert as long
- 17:56as possible but I guess at some point
- 17:57around 4:00 a.m. I dozed off.
- 18:00Several hours later, I was woken up by
- 18:02the [music] sounds of my family getting
- 18:03home. It was already around noon. I had
- 18:06slept throughout half of the day
- 18:07basically which is unusual for me. At
- 18:10first, they joked that I looked like I
- 18:11had just woken up [music] and asked to
- 18:13help them with their bags from the car.
- 18:15I thought it was time for me to tell
- 18:16them about everything that happened
- 18:17those past three days
- 18:19and as I expected, they got very upset
- 18:21and worried but at the same time they
- 18:23were glad I was okay.
- 18:25A week later, we decided to install
- 18:26cameras in front and in the back of the
- 18:28house and nothing similar has happened
- 18:30again.
- 18:31I never got an update from the police
- 18:32either. To this day, I have no idea what
- 18:35could have caused those people to chase
- 18:36after me. Who was that screaming man and
- 18:39why was he in such distress? Was he an
- 18:41actual victim of the lunatics or was
- 18:43this some sort of sick strategy by them
- 18:45to lure people closer, chase after the
- 18:48potential target, then rob them or even
- 18:50worse?
- 18:51Lastly, was the sound I heard on the
- 18:53second night connected to all this or
- 18:56was it just my mind playing tricks on
- 18:57me?
- 18:58I've asked myself the same questions a
- 19:00million times but I guess I'll never be
- 19:02certain enough to know the truth.
