- 0:11when I first came to the United States I
- 0:13was 20 years old and working as an aair
- 0:16I didn't have much experience but I was
- 0:18eager also very nervous I grown up in a
- 0:22small town in France and hadn't ever
- 0:24spent time away from home let alone
- 0:26across an ocean my English still needed
- 0:29work but I was confident enough to get
- 0:31by I expected it to be a good year a new
- 0:34adventure a cultural exchange something
- 0:37I'd tell my friends about when I went
- 0:38home I was matched with the Joseph
- 0:41family I don't want to name the exact
- 0:43town for privacy reasons but it was an
- 0:45upper middle class neighborhood quiet
- 0:47streets nice houses big backyards the
- 0:50kind of place you'd expect to find well
- 0:52behaved kids PTA moms and dads who
- 0:54worked non-stop I remember being so
- 0:57relieved when I first arrived I thought
- 0:59that would be easy nothing bad happens
- 1:02in places like this the Josephs had two
- 1:04boys Brock and Brandon Brock the older
- 1:08one was 12 he was a pretty typical kid
- 1:11kind of lazy sometimes rude but harmless
- 1:14overall he made jokes liked his Xbox and
- 1:17mostly stayed out of trouble Brandon
- 1:19though was different he was nine and
- 1:22already had this coldness to him I don't
- 1:25know how else to describe it there was
- 1:27something off I think it's likely he had
- 1:29some some kind of social disorder when I
- 1:32first met him he just stared at me
- 1:33without saying a word not shy or
- 1:36embarrassed just staring like he was
- 1:38studying me after a few seconds he
- 1:42smiled and asked are you the maid I
- 1:44laughed awkwardly and said I was going
- 1:45to help look after him and his brother
- 1:47for the year he didn't laugh with me he
- 1:50just kept watching it didn't take long
- 1:52to realize Brandon wasn't like the other
- 1:54kids my host parents warned me that he
- 1:57was difficult they said he had a bit of
- 1:59an attitude but that was the
- 2:01understatement of the century Brandon
- 2:04didn't just have an attitude he was mean
- 2:06and I don't mean the usual bratty stuff
- 2:08like teasing his brother or refusing to
- 2:10eat what he was served it was worse than
- 2:12that he lied constantly about everything
- 2:16he once told his teacher that Brock
- 2:18tried to choke him in the kitchen which
- 2:20never happened he told the neighbor that
- 2:22his parents locked him in a closet at
- 2:23night he even told me that the last awe
- 2:26pair ran away because of him and that
- 2:28she was never seen again
- 2:30when I tried to scold him for it he
- 2:32narrowed his eyes and said don't tell me
- 2:34what to do everything was manageable for
- 2:37me even at that point but I do admit
- 2:39that I was a little frightened of him
- 2:42things only got worse from there one
- 2:44night about 2 months in I pulled back my
- 2:47sheets and
- 2:48froze there were thumbtacks scattered
- 2:51all over my mattress I just stared for a
- 2:54second dozens maybe a hundred of them
- 2:57were pointing upwards waiting for me to
- 2:59lie down
- 3:00my heart started racing the mattress
- 3:02cover had tiny punctures everywhere I
- 3:05stood there in fear realizing how close
- 3:07I'd come to lying on them Brandon had
- 3:10been spying on me earlier that day I'd
- 3:12caught him peeking through a crack in
- 3:13the door when I was folding clothes I
- 3:16didn't think much of it at the time just
- 3:17assumed he was being nosy but after
- 3:20seeing all those thumbtacks I wasn't so
- 3:22sure I was honestly so scared I didn't
- 3:25want to tell his parents afraid that
- 3:26they'd send me back to France so I
- 3:28cleaned up the mess and kept it to
- 3:30myself after that things became more and
- 3:33more strange Brandon started following
- 3:36me around the house I'd catch him
- 3:38peeking around corners watching me from
- 3:40the
- 3:41doorways sometimes when I was cooking or
- 3:43reading I look up to find him sitting
- 3:45across the room staring without blinking
- 3:48I never said anything I must admit I
- 3:51tried to avoid him as much as I could
- 3:53out of fear one afternoon I was watering
- 3:56flowers in the garden when I smelled
- 3:58something off
- 4:00a sharp sour odor like something rotting
- 4:04I traced it to a corner of the yard
- 4:05where the soil looked freshly Disturbed
- 4:08I was curious so I grabbed one of those
- 4:10little garden shovels and started poking
- 4:12at the soil when I saw what was there I
- 4:15nearly screamed there were three Dead
- 4:17Rabbits buried there their bodies were
- 4:20twisted and cut in several places one
- 4:23had its legs tied together with string I
- 4:26ran inside to tell my host parents Mr
- 4:29and Mrs Jo Joseph looked concerned at
- 4:30first until they pulled Brendan aside to
- 4:33ask him about it he gave an innocent
- 4:35look and said it wasn't him that was it
- 4:38they believed him Mrs Joseph said it was
- 4:41probably one of the neighborhood kids
- 4:42and told Brandon to go back inside I
- 4:45started sleeping with my bedroom door
- 4:47locked after that a week later I woke up
- 4:50in the middle of the night to a noise in
- 4:51my
- 4:52room I opened my eyes and saw a shadow
- 4:55near my bed it was Brandon he was
- 4:58standing there holding something
- 5:00I blinked a few times and realized what
- 5:02it was a kitchen knife I screamed as
- 5:06loud as I could by the time the parents
- 5:08came rushing in the knife was gone
- 5:11Brandon had shoved it under the bed he
- 5:13convinced them that he'd been
- 5:15sleepwalking Mrs Joseph gave me an
- 5:17annoyed look as if to say why are you
- 5:19making such a fuss I pointed to the
- 5:22knife handle sticking out from under the
- 5:24bed and pleaded with them to believe me
- 5:26Mr Joseph knelt down pulled it out and
- 5:29showed it to Brandon he just smiled and
- 5:31said he had never seen it before and
- 5:33they of course believed him I told them
- 5:36that my door had been locked so he must
- 5:38have picked it but they told me that was
- 5:40nonsense I felt so alone I had no one I
- 5:44didn't know what to do for better or
- 5:47worse a decision was made for me the
- 5:50next morning Mrs Joseph called me to the
- 5:52living room and said I had stolen her
- 5:54jewelry I was completely confused until
- 5:57she held up a pearl necklace I had never
- 5:59seen before for she told me she had
- 6:01found it in my purse which she was
- 6:03holding in her other hand I begged her
- 6:05to believe me that I hadn't stolen it
- 6:08but there was nothing I could say to
- 6:09convince her Brandon stood in the
- 6:11hallway smiling to himself I knew it was
- 6:14him they fired me on the spot I flew
- 6:18back to France the next day I couldn't
- 6:21believe how easily Brandon had destroyed
- 6:22my life for months afterwards I was
- 6:25extremely depressed I thought I had
- 6:27blown my one chance at living in the US
- 6:29and feared I wouldn't get another one
- 6:32fortunately I found my way back to the
- 6:33state several years later and still live
- 6:35here I have a good job and good friends
- 6:39I still think about Brandon from time to
- 6:40time I can only imagine the evil person
- 6:43he's grown up to
- 6:47[Music]
- 6:53become for most people traveling alone
- 6:56is terrifying and understandably so for
- 6:59some reason it's never bothered me all
- 7:01that much I've always been quite
- 7:02independent and outgoing so befriending
- 7:04new people comes naturally to me it's
- 7:07probably one of the reasons I decided to
- 7:09become an a pair also I've always wanted
- 7:11to become a child psychologist in my
- 7:14opinion one of the world's problems
- 7:16could be solved if children had better
- 7:17parenting and proper guidance beyond
- 7:20that I've always wanted to experience
- 7:22America so working as an all pair was
- 7:24something I seriously considered I'm
- 7:26originally from Germany from a tiny
- 7:28village outside alone most Americans
- 7:31have never heard of it so when people
- 7:32ask where I'm from I usually just say
- 7:34Germany it's easier that way before you
- 7:37say anything I believe that my English
- 7:39is rather good or so I'm told it's
- 7:42gotten considerably better since living
- 7:44in the US and people are often impressed
- 7:46by it my father is originally from the
- 7:48UK and did everything in his power to
- 7:50ensure that my English was as good as my
- 7:52German if not better I'm not sure if
- 7:55they have them here in the US but I had
- 7:57an electronic dictionary growing up that
- 7:58doubled as a translator I remember
- 8:01messing around with it a ton as a kid
- 8:03plugging in words and translating them
- 8:05with my dad I also read like crazy when
- 8:08I was younger which I think definitely
- 8:09helped me anyway my host family lives in
- 8:12a wealthy suburb in Northern California
- 8:15their house is unbelievable you might
- 8:17think living here would be lonely but
- 8:19the agency does a great job of
- 8:21connecting nearby all pairs so I
- 8:23immediately clicked with a few girls in
- 8:24the surrounding neighborhoods my best
- 8:27friend here is an American girl named
- 8:28Jennifer she's great she's like me but a
- 8:31little louder and a little taller we've
- 8:34been Inseparable since we met we're both
- 8:36here for the same reasons working
- 8:38exploring and trying to make the most of
- 8:40our time abroad there's a huge college
- 8:43campus nearby and it's pretty much the
- 8:45only decent place to go out that isn't a
- 8:46$100 Uber away both the Frat and bar
- 8:50scenes there are pretty good so that's
- 8:51where we spend most of our weekends I
- 8:54think a lot of the guys are naturally
- 8:55drawn to us because of our accents and
- 8:57the international card gets us pretty
- 8:59far it's supposedly difficult to get
- 9:01into fra parties without being in a
- 9:03sorority here but we don't have much of
- 9:05an issue the bars here are a lot more
- 9:08fun though our favorite spot is this bar
- 9:10called tap I've noticed Americans love
- 9:13giving their nights themes Taco Tuesday
- 9:16wine Wednesday I guess any excuse to
- 9:19drink on a weekday you know it's kind of
- 9:21funny Tuesdays are the most enjoyable
- 9:23nights of the week for Jenny and I this
- 9:25story takes place on one of those nights
- 9:28about a few months after after I arrived
- 9:29to the US I was standing by the bar
- 9:32waiting on drinks for Jenny and I when
- 9:34this tall guy with Carly brown hair
- 9:36approached me and said you're German
- 9:38right that kind of threw me off people
- 9:40almost never guess I'm German European
- 9:43sure but not German
- 9:44specifically I don't really have
- 9:46distinctive German features so anytime
- 9:49anyone's able to guess my nationality it
- 9:51fascinates me I laughed and told them he
- 9:53was right and he introduced himself as
- 9:55sebie with a confident smile we talked
- 9:58for a while and and everything was very
- 10:00natural I'll admit I get approached a
- 10:02lot when I go out I'm in shape and I
- 10:05know I'm decent looking but guys are
- 10:06usually kind of obvious and cheesy when
- 10:08they talk to me sebbi felt different the
- 10:12more we talked the more it seemed like
- 10:14he was actually interested in me as a
- 10:15person as opposed to just hitting on me
- 10:18he knew a lot of tidbits about German
- 10:19culture which was something I quite
- 10:21liked about him a lot of the Americans I
- 10:23don't talk to don't know much about the
- 10:25rest of the world so it was nice to talk
- 10:27to someone well-traveled smart and
- 10:29cultured we talked and left for a while
- 10:32longer before I introduced him to Jenny
- 10:34he smiled and waved his friend over an
- 10:36Asian guy who introduced himself as
- 10:38Hunter he and Jenny immediately headed
- 10:40off all in all it was a great time
- 10:44before the night ended sebie asked me
- 10:46for my number and I gave it to him
- 10:47without
- 10:48hesitation a few days later sebie
- 10:51invited me over for dinner when I got to
- 10:53his place I expected him to have dinner
- 10:55reservations ready or something but
- 10:57instead he was cooking a pie a dish for
- 10:59us in the kitchen it was quite sweet I
- 11:03ended up helping him prepare the meal
- 11:05and he opened a bottle of wine for us I
- 11:07had such a great time that I ended up
- 11:09sleeping over at his apartment the next
- 11:11morning I woke up and examined his room
- 11:14a little unlike most college Apartments
- 11:17it was quite clean he didn't have any
- 11:19posters or typical decorations up but
- 11:21rather a bunch of landscape pictures his
- 11:24walls were covered with dozens of square
- 11:26photographs all black and white cast C
- 11:29Les cities Countryside views they all
- 11:32looked oddly familiar I got up and
- 11:34looked at them a little more closely
- 11:36realizing they all had locations printed
- 11:38on them they were all from Germany every
- 11:41single one with the exception of a
- 11:43picture of Monte Carlo Monaco sebie had
- 11:46woken up by then so I turned and asked
- 11:48him jokingly if he had a thing for
- 11:49German architecture he laughed and told
- 11:52me about his dad's Arial Photo
- 11:53collection which he had picked some of
- 11:55his favorites from I walked back towards
- 11:58his bed and real realized there were
- 11:59some more pictures above his bed my jaw
- 12:02literally dropped when I saw that one of
- 12:04the pictures was a landscape of my
- 12:06Village taken from above the picture was
- 12:09like 20 minutes from my house I told him
- 12:11this and he got rather excited telling
- 12:14me what a crazy coincidence that was I
- 12:17was amazed the odds of that were so slim
- 12:20he then asked me a bunch of questions
- 12:21about my hometown which I was happy to
- 12:23answer over the next few weeks sebie and
- 12:26I spent a lot of time together I was
- 12:28working and he had class during the week
- 12:31but we spent every weekend going out
- 12:32together plus
- 12:34Tuesdays everything was great he was a
- 12:36sweet guy and made sure I was
- 12:38comfortable and enjoying myself when we
- 12:39went out he was also quite nice to my
- 12:42friends which I appreciated his friend
- 12:44Hunter turned out to be a little weird
- 12:46though every time someone would play
- 12:48Take It Off by Fisher he would quite
- 12:50literally start stripping in front of
- 12:52Jenny one night sebie got rather drunk
- 12:55significantly drunker than usual as he
- 12:58was walking me to his apartment
- 12:59he was going on and on about how much he
- 13:01loved German women and how he always
- 13:02wanted a German wife at one point he
- 13:05said he always wanted to marry an all
- 13:07pair because foreign girls are great
- 13:09with kids I brushed it off as some weird
- 13:12fantasy but that was the first thing he
- 13:14did or said that didn't sit well with me
- 13:17obviously not a deal breaker though he
- 13:18had been perfect up until then but then
- 13:21came the first time he took me out to
- 13:22dinner he took me to this Italian spot
- 13:25and told me he'd picked it because they
- 13:26had plenty of vegetarian options which
- 13:29was sweet but I never told him I was
- 13:31vegetarian I gave him a little smile and
- 13:33playfully asked him how he knew I was
- 13:35vegetarian and he told me he saw it in
- 13:37one of my insta posts that eased me for
- 13:40the rest of the dinner but later when I
- 13:42was back home I realized my only post
- 13:44mentioning it was from years ago and I
- 13:46post a lot so you'd have to scroll
- 13:48pretty far to get there let alone pick
- 13:50up on the caption I had used and that's
- 13:52not even mentioning the fact that all my
- 13:54posts are from a long time ago in
- 13:56Germany the next time I stayed over
- 13:59while sebie was asleep I unlocked his
- 14:01phone I remembered his password he
- 14:03hadn't exactly been careful about hiding
- 14:05it what I found in there was
- 14:08sickening there was a folder in his
- 14:10camera roll titled wife which contains
- 14:13screenshots of my social media dating
- 14:15back months posts captions tagged
- 14:18locations even screenshots of old
- 14:20stories I didn't even remember posting
- 14:23his Notes app was even worse there were
- 14:25English translations of my old posts in
- 14:27there plus a rough schedule of when and
- 14:29where I'd go out based on my Instagram
- 14:31story posts there was information in
- 14:34there about my hometown about Germany
- 14:36about things I liked all based on my
- 14:39Instagram if you could believe it but
- 14:41the worst thing I found in its phone was
- 14:43a photo of my driver's license
- 14:46everything hit me at once the second
- 14:48night I had gone out in America I had
- 14:50lost my wallet at a frat party which had
- 14:52my ID in it that's how we found my
- 14:55Instagram that's how we knew everything
- 14:57where I was from what I like liked my
- 14:59birthday none of it was chance he had
- 15:02planned all of it there was a long
- 15:05graphic message that went into
- 15:06disgusting detail about what he wanted
- 15:08to do to me which I don't want to talk
- 15:10about I didn't know who the guy in those
- 15:12messages was I couldn't stand to look at
- 15:14everything anymore so I grabbed my stuff
- 15:16and slipped out of his apartment without
- 15:18making a sound regrettably I didn't take
- 15:21any photos for evidence the whole drive
- 15:23back to my host family's house my hands
- 15:25were shaking Germans take privacy
- 15:28seriously
- 15:29I felt sick my a pair profile was
- 15:32private but my ID he had my full name
- 15:36and with that I knew he could have found
- 15:38anything I didn't sleep that night I
- 15:41prayed that he hadn't been able to
- 15:42figure out my host family's address the
- 15:44next morning my phone exploded with
- 15:47messages they were all from sebbi asking
- 15:50me where I went why I left if I went
- 15:52through his phone I sent him one final
- 15:55message telling him that if he ever
- 15:56tried to contact me again I'd call the
- 15:58police
- 15:59then I blocked him on everything for the
- 16:02next few days I lived in Perpetual fear
- 16:04worrying that he'd show up at any moment
- 16:07I privated my Instagram locked
- 16:09everything down and created a close
- 16:11friend story for when I went out just in
- 16:13case he tried to find me again
- 16:15thankfully he hasn't shown up yet and
- 16:17it's been about 3 months since I last
- 16:19heard from him still though I can't help
- 16:22but feeling this pit in my stomach that
- 16:24he knows my host family's address and
- 16:26that he's planning something I hope I
- 16:28never see him again again but I'll
- 16:29update if something else
- 16:31happens update I hoped I wouldn't have
- 16:34to do this but the past few weeks I
- 16:36noticed the same silver car driving up
- 16:38and down my host family Street sometimes
- 16:41just sitting across the street from
- 16:42their house he's also tried to reach out
- 16:45to me through fake phone numbers and
- 16:46Instagram accounts all within the same
- 16:48time frame the messages always just ask
- 16:51me to talk but I haven't responded to
- 16:53any of them all this gives me reason to
- 16:56believe he knows where I'm living and
- 16:57that I'm potentially in danger
- 16:59I'm building a case to present to the
- 17:01police but I've heard that they don't
- 17:02take this kind of thing very seriously
- 17:05luckily my all pair commitment ends soon
- 17:07so I'll be back in Germany soon
- 17:15[Music]
- 17:18enough this happened a few years ago
- 17:21I've always wanted to live in Europe
- 17:22ever since I was a kid it was my
- 17:24lifelong dream more than anything though
- 17:27I wanted to work with kids I've always
- 17:29had a way with them and I knew ever
- 17:31since I was little that I wouldn't be
- 17:32fully content with my life if my job
- 17:34didn't involve caring for or teaching
- 17:36kids in some capacity so when I found
- 17:38out I could become an a pair in France
- 17:40where I could use my French from high
- 17:42school and be part of a family it felt
- 17:44like everything was falling into place
- 17:46the decision wasn't easy I'm from Canada
- 17:49and the move was a big one but France
- 17:51had favorable Visa options for Canadians
- 17:54and it was the perfect chance to improve
- 17:55my French Canada's second language plus
- 17:59I had a few friends in Paris so I
- 18:01wouldn't be entirely alone there money
- 18:04though was a problem I didn't have
- 18:06family support I won't get into why
- 18:08that's personal but let's just say I was
- 18:10on my own I couldn't afford one of those
- 18:13expensive agencies so I used a free aair
- 18:16website instead not ideal but it was all
- 18:18I could manage that's how I connected
- 18:21with Leah Leah's Ed was warm and
- 18:23straightforward she needed help with her
- 18:25two kids while her husband traveled for
- 18:27work she seemed wonderful very polite
- 18:30and very friendly on our video calls she
- 18:33was quick to call me Sheree and mael
- 18:36which felt different from home but in a
- 18:38Charming motherly way she asked a lot
- 18:40about me how I was with kids how I felt
- 18:43about family life but didn't talk much
- 18:45about herself still she felt genuine I
- 18:48trusted her the only thing that felt off
- 18:51was the kids I asked to meet them on our
- 18:53calls more than once Leah always had a
- 18:56reason why they couldn't join one was n
- 18:59the other was at school where they were
- 19:00on a play date with a friend she
- 19:03promised I'd meet them the second I
- 19:04arrived it felt a little strange but I
- 19:07figured I'd see them soon enough Leah
- 19:09sent me a formal agreement everything
- 19:12looked proper and we agreed on my start
- 19:14date I booked my flight packed my life
- 19:17into a suitcase and said goodbye to
- 19:19Canada when I landed at Charles deal
- 19:22Leah wasn't there that surprised me from
- 19:25everything I had heard most host
- 19:27families meet their all pairs at the
- 19:28airport
- 19:29but then my phone buzzed it was a
- 19:31message from Leah telling me that she
- 19:33was stuck in traffic and instructing me
- 19:34to go to the side drop off area where
- 19:36she'd have me picked up I remember using
- 19:39Google translate on her message because
- 19:40it sounded like she was going to have
- 19:41someone else pick me up and I wanted to
- 19:43double check I was right and that made
- 19:46me confused and a little unsettled
- 19:49despite that I followed her instructions
- 19:52a few minutes later a car drove up and a
- 19:54woman approached late 40s maybe with
- 19:57short blonde hair and a bright smile she
- 20:00looked nothing like Leah she introduced
- 20:02herself as Leah's cousin and said you
- 20:04must be Leah's air she sent me to get
- 20:07you I hesitated something felt off
- 20:10immediately I asked her if I could talk
- 20:12to Leah and unlocked my phone she told
- 20:15me that Leah was probably still driving
- 20:17and assured me that she'd be waiting for
- 20:19me at home I called Leah anyway and it
- 20:22went straight to voicemail it didn't
- 20:24even ring the woman kept telling me that
- 20:26I'd be fine with a huge smile on her
- 20:28face I was confused but also exhausted
- 20:31from the flight and what was I supposed
- 20:33to do stand there in the airport forever
- 20:36so I did what she said and got in the
- 20:38car the woman kept the conversation
- 20:40going non-stop as we drove she asked
- 20:43about my flight my life and Canada and
- 20:45if I was excited to start my new job but
- 20:48when I tried to steer the conversation
- 20:49back to Leah or the children she brushed
- 20:51it off just said that I'd love them and
- 20:53that I'd see them soon I started to feel
- 20:56worse and worse about the whole
- 20:57situation she was too polished tooo
- 21:00eager to keep me talking without
- 21:02actually answering anything the scenery
- 21:04outside began to change I had the
- 21:06address in Google maps and the route we
- 21:08were taking didn't match we were heading
- 21:11away from the suburbs and into what
- 21:12looked like an industrial type area I
- 21:15started panicking I felt like I was in
- 21:17the process of being abducted I asked
- 21:19her directly where we were going and she
- 21:21responded lightly calling it a shortcut
- 21:24again repeating that Leah was expecting
- 21:25us I felt the blood drain from my face
- 21:29I knew at that point that she was lying
- 21:31I told her to take me back to the
- 21:33airport but she didn't answer I told her
- 21:35I'd call the police if she didn't take
- 21:37me back to the airport and she told me
- 21:38to relax but I wasn't letting up no
- 21:42matter what I said she just kept
- 21:43repeating herself about Leah and
- 21:45insisted that I was
- 21:47overreacting the next time the car
- 21:48slowed down I kicked the door open and
- 21:51jumped out onto the street the woman
- 21:53didn't drive off instead she kind of
- 21:55just looked at me like I was the one who
- 21:57was acting crazy
- 21:59I called my mom who told me to get away
- 22:01from the car get somewhere safe and call
- 22:03for help as I was talking to my mom I
- 22:06looked through the windshield and
- 22:07noticed the woman now on her phone
- 22:09speaking rapidly in a language I didn't
- 22:11recognize it wasn't French and it
- 22:13definitely wasn't English I couldn't
- 22:15shake the gut feeling that she was
- 22:17talking a Leah there wasn't another car
- 22:19in sight but under no circumstance was I
- 22:22getting back in that
- 22:23vehicle eventually the driver's side
- 22:25door opened and the woman took a step
- 22:27towards me I screamed that I was on the
- 22:29phone with the police and that actually
- 22:31got her to stop without saying another
- 22:34word she went back to the car threw my
- 22:36suitcase onto the road and then sped off
- 22:39I got the license plate as she drove
- 22:40away but I was on the verge of tears
- 22:42with my mom still on the phone I ended
- 22:45up hitchhiking to one of my friend's
- 22:46houses I honestly don't know what I
- 22:48would have done without that option my
- 22:51friend's family helped me report
- 22:52everything to the police and eventually
- 22:54even agreed to help me with the fair
- 22:56back to Canada which I was beyond
- 22:57grateful for
- 22:59eventually they updated me on what the
- 23:01police informed them apparently there
- 23:03was no registered all pair family by
- 23:05Leah's name the number Leah used was
- 23:08prepaid and untraceable all the photos
- 23:10of the children were taken from the
- 23:12internet everyone I talked to about this
- 23:14tells me the same thing I was moments
- 23:16away from being trafficked the worst
- 23:19part about that whole thing was that I
- 23:20wasted all that money on those plane
- 23:22tickets and traumatized myself
- 23:24permanently looking back I know how
- 23:26lucky I am I was away from something
- 23:29terrible something I can barely let
- 23:31myself imagine the whole situation was
- 23:34calculated from start to finish and if I
- 23:36hadn't trusted my gut I might not be
- 23:38here to tell the story it took some time
- 23:41but I eventually made my way back to
- 23:42France this time through a verified
- 23:44agency I'm hoping to eventually fulfill
- 23:47residency requirements and become a
- 23:49permanent citizen here
