  1. 0:00Hey Michelle. Uh, how's it going? We're recording  today on a Monday, so happy Monday. How are you?
  2. 0:05Happy Monday. I'm good. How are you? Feeling  great. Feeling great. Michelle, are you a Chad
  3. 0:09GBT user? I am. Um, what about you? Yeah, I use  it sometimes, for sure. For brainstorming things,
  4. 0:18uh, coming up with ideas, lots of things. Yeah, I  remember in the beginning when it first came out,
  5. 0:25I just kept on saying like, I don't I don't  get it. I always have that, you know? I think
  6. 0:29everybody has that moment with some sort of new  technology like I don't get why this would help
  7. 0:34me. Um cuz I remember in the beginning Dan would  just use it with his friends to make up funny
  8. 0:40stories. Um and he would just say, "Oh, make up a"  and like he would make up he would have it tell a
  9. 0:48part of the story and then send it to his friends  and then they would do the next one. And you know
  10. 0:52it was just you know just for funny things. But so  in the beginning, I just I was like, "All right,
  11. 0:58whatever. That's his thing. I don't I don't really  have a use for it." But yeah, I didn't get it. But
  12. 1:04as time moved on, I would hear how other people  were using it. And I got more way more into having
  13. 1:10it help me in certain areas of my life. It reminds  me your comment what you said, you didn't get it.
  14. 1:15Of do you know that famous uh clip from I think  it's the Today Show. I think it was Katie Kurrick
  15. 1:20who was like, "Have you heard of this new thing,  the internet? the internet. Was she talking about
  16. 1:28email or the I don't know which one it was, but  it's a famous clip and it's just like Yeah. No,
  17. 1:34I know what you're talking about. I Well, it's  funny. I I I mean, we I probably shared this
  18. 1:39before, but I remember when my dad told me about  email and I remember thinking, "What?" You know,
  19. 1:47it's just going to pop up and okay, who cares? You  know, it's funny how it at first your mind is just
  20. 1:55with I think so many different areas of technology  like okay what I why would why would I need that
  21. 2:01and then we have to re you can't live without  it and then you can't and then your brain just
  22. 2:04shapes around it right around this new thing and  guaranteed that's what's going to happen with AI
  23. 2:10although I think this time around people are not  quite as excited on like a visceral level about
  24. 2:16big fear yeah fear and also just kind of like  okay more time online. I think with the internet,
  25. 2:21people were really, you know, like the  dot boom and all people are like, "Wow,
  26. 2:26I could order groceries online. This is amazing."  I think now with AI, if people are like, "I could
  27. 2:31have a voice coming out of my refrigerator." I  don't know if people are quite as like enchanted
  28. 2:36by AI the way they were about other advances, you  know? I don't know. Maybe I'll speak for myself. I
  29. 2:44don't know. I just feel like No, I mean it I guess  it depends which kind of AI. Yeah, certainly.
  30. 2:49Yeah. Voice coming out of your refrigerator  that does that's not that exciting, you know,
  31. 2:53but there are definitely I mean we're well this  is what we're going to talk about today. I mean
  32. 2:58the one thing that I really don't like um it I  don't want it to I I'm I'm worried that it will
  33. 3:05take over creativity and I don't want to lose that  creative muscle. Um, so sometimes I'll say like
  34. 3:13I don't want to do Chachi PT. Actually, I was at  something the other day and somebody was making um
  35. 3:19a speech and they said, "Oh, and I want to thank  a person and ChatBT for helping me write this
  36. 3:25speech." And I and everybody just was laughing  because but I I don't like it in that way. I don't
  37. 3:34like it to be where we could think of something  with our brains and now we're just relying on it
  38. 3:40and yeah, you know, so it's interesting 100%. So  in today's episode, we are going to model for you
  39. 3:47um what you guys could do with a native speaker  or a friend as you're practicing your English.
  40. 3:52Talk about the ways that you use chat GBT or just  AI in general. This is a huge skill to be able to
  41. 3:59do because everyone in the world is experimenting.  Mo most not everyone in the world many people in
  42. 4:04the world are starting to experiment with AI now  and so it's a connection skill that's going to
  43. 4:09come up often right absolutely definitely um and  also sometimes you might share a way that it helps
  44. 4:18you that you think it might be beneficial for  someone else um so I you know we're going to talk
  45. 4:25more about this in just a second but we want to  say thank you to Louise uh Soraniano on Spotify,
  46. 4:31right? We just read a really nice review from  Louise. Thank you so much, Louise. We appreciate
  47. 4:36uh your comment, your review. Guys, go to  wherever you can rate or review our podcast,
  48. 4:43whether that's Apple, Spotify, or YouTube, and  leave us a comment. Leave us a rating and a review
  49. 4:48so we know what you think of the show. All right.  Exactly. Yes. So, um let's get into it. So, we're
  50. 4:56going to share how how to start these discussions.  Yeah. Um okay so the first thing is did you know
  51. 5:03you can use it right whether it's AI whether it's  GBT whatever you use to X so for example did you
  52. 5:13know you can use chat GBT to get your macros on  food it's been so useful for my diet and exercise
  53. 5:19plan what is macros anyways I don't even know what  that means I think it's I think I've never known
  54. 5:24what that means I said it thinking you know oh no  machine I hope you know I think of macros macros
  55. 5:30hold on let's see macronutrients yes the three  main nutrients okay I'm reading from AI thank
  56. 5:36you AI uh required in large amounts the carbs the  proteins and fats uh so and a lot of times people
  57. 5:44will track their macros you'll hear that a lot  you know they're tracking their macros about what
  58. 5:49they've been eating or what they might need more  of very tangible term and and did you know you
  59. 5:53can use AI to rescue yourself in an episode if you  don't know the answer exactly I did know that. Um,
  60. 6:02yeah. Um, but yeah, it it's it, you know, you  could just put in that's one way people use it.
  61. 6:10They might use it as a food log. Um, for sure.  So, yeah, I love that. Yeah. Or you could say,
  62. 6:16I've recently started using chatbt for X. So,  I've recently started using ChatBT to give me
  63. 6:21art project ideas for my class. It's so useful.  I think it is really good for generating ideas,
  64. 6:27right? It is really brainstorm. Yeah. Yes. I  mean especially for a teacher. I mean sometimes
  65. 6:33you know you just the amount of things you're  required to think of and be creative. Yeah.
  66. 6:38Again you don't want it to completely take over  that creative muscle. That's the fear I think.
  67. 6:43But sometimes you just it can help you with that  heavy lift right that can feel the blank page as
  68. 6:50we say the what the blank space on the page right  that's really intimidating when you're trying to
  69. 6:55create something new. So, it can it can help you  avoid that and then you work off of that. Um,
  70. 7:00another construction here, guys, you might use  in a conversation, my favorite thing to use chat
  71. 7:06for is 2x. 2x. Okay. Yep. Um, so for example, my  favorite thing to use chat for is to get recipes
  72. 7:17for dinner. I just tell it what I have in my  house and it can give me so many good ideas.
  73. 7:22And I would say for me that's like the number  one thing I use it for. That's pretty cool that
  74. 7:27because then you don't have to go shopping for  all new um ingredients. You just make something
  75. 7:32from what you have, right? Yeah. Or I'll say yet,  you know, like I I or I'll say I don't have this.
  76. 7:38Could I substitute it with this? Or um Okay. you  know or there have been certain things times when
  77. 7:44I really was craving a certain food and I say  I don't have this but is there something that
  78. 7:50an idea you can give me of how I can satisfy  whatever food I'm craving you know interesting
  79. 7:57okay yeah I mean it would I guess in the old days  before 2022 before we got chat GBT we we just went
  80. 8:03to Google and tried to figure this out but it  it would take a lot longer right to right and
  81. 8:09at first I didn't understand I said well how is  it than just googling, but it's it's giving you
  82. 8:15everything in one place. You don't have to search  around different sites. I mean, yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
  83. 8:20For that stuff, it's great. Um or you could say,  "Chat GPT helps me, right?" So, for example,
  84. 8:28uh chat GPT helps me get design ideas for my  house. I can send in a picture and it will respond
  85. 8:33with lots of ideas and um Yeah, that that I will  do. I love that. Yeah. really good. I mean, yeah,
  86. 8:42I'm that's interesting. I'm not really the cook  in my house, but if I were the cook in my house,
  87. 8:46I would totally use Chad GBT for just saying what  I have and what could I make from this? I think
  88. 8:52that's so smart. It's so Oh, that and so and I got  that idea because somebody else was made something
  89. 8:59that was really delicious. I mean, this was  probably over a year ago, right? And then told me,
  90. 9:04oh, that they that they use Chachi PT all the time  for this. And so that's where I got the idea. Now,
  91. 9:11so that's what I'm saying is that it can lead to  that connection. Somebody can give you an idea,
  92. 9:15then you can share it with someone else to do. Um,  I love that. But yeah, do you use it for any of
  93. 9:22these types of things or anything in particular? I  would say I use it more for work, for my business,
  94. 9:27for our business here at Allers English, for  brainstorming ideas. Yeah. Um, even some market
  95. 9:33research, like competitor research, you can pull  up. Um, or if I'm looking for new logos or images,
  96. 9:40I can generate ideas or rough sketches for them  that I might then hand to a designer and say, you
  97. 9:46know, can can we do something like this, right?  So, you're not starting from scratch. That's what
  98. 9:51I've been using it for in the last week or so.  Yeah. So, there's it's unlimited. It's incredible,
  99. 9:56Michelle. It really is. I But of course, there's  the scary side, too. Um, but today we're kind of
  100. 10:04talking about the the benefits. Um, so we're going  to talk a little bit more about this after the
  101. 10:09break. Hey, quick question. Do you want to feel  more confident when you speak English? If so,
  102. 10:16we made a free guide for you. It'll help you avoid  those common mistakes and start speaking more
  103. 10:23naturally in real conversations. Go grab it in the  description below. And if this is helpful for you,
  104. 10:32make sure that you like and subscribe. We are here  five times a week to help you connect in English.
  105. 10:39All right, Michelle. So, we can do a follow-up  later talking about AI and some of the things that
  106. 10:43do worry us. We can show you new constructions of  how to put those sentences together, guys, in a
  107. 10:48very sophisticated, you know, C1 level way. But  for today, um, what are some questions we could
  108. 10:54ask people, Michelle? Yeah, I mean, there's the  basic. I mean, do you use chat GBT? Yes. What is
  109. 11:01the most useful thing you've done with chat GBT?  Right. Yeah. That's really how we have to come
  110. 11:06up with our own use is by asking people because  people are once I went to Chad GBT and I was I
  111. 11:11was sort I was sort of using it to kind of dream  because I have a dream of one day going to India
  112. 11:16but but I would have to work probably so taking  so doing like a northern India meditation retreat
  113. 11:22slash work remote thing where I could access cafes  and work with my laptop but also have weeks where
  114. 11:30I'm in meditation. So I had Chad JBT plan me this  whole route where I could actually do that. It's
  115. 11:36like to dream, you know. Yeah. I didn't think of  it in that way. See, now now I can do that too. Um
  116. 11:44so yeah and then you know there are words uh that  you might use to discuss it. You know helpful,
  117. 11:51beneficial, valuable. These are you know these  words that Yeah. useful. Um so these can all these
  118. 11:58can all be helpful. Yeah. I like that dream  idea, Lindsay. That's fun. Really cool. Um,
  119. 12:04yeah. Um, do Well, here's Well, this more goes  more under the worry box, but is there anything
  120. 12:10you ever avoid putting in? I mean, personal data  for sure. We don't put any personal data or emails
  121. 12:15or anything like that. So, I would avoid uploading  spreadsheets that have that stuff, of course. Um,
  122. 12:22and then, yeah, anything that I just don't  want out in the cloud because it's all out
  123. 12:27there somewhere is the way I think of it. I don't  know exactly where the flip side. Yeah. Right. So,
  124. 12:33so but if you're using it mostly for recipes and  to dream and to, you know, things like these, it's
  125. 12:38it's probably okay. I don't know. Yeah. I mean,  or even planning actual trips like if you are,
  126. 12:43you know, like we're we've revealed that I'm  having a baby, so we're going to be taking a
  127. 12:48trip in the fall to France to Bordeaux. Oh, you  are? Yeah. We're going to do the Good for you.
  128. 12:54Getting out there. Getting out there, Michelle.  Good for you. That's what we did, too. Yeah,
  129. 12:57but then we had co so you know and I feel like  whenever we travel we have constraints we have
  130. 13:05special requirements and how did we address that  before with just Google? I don't know if we go to
  131. 13:10ChadBt and we say we're traveling to Bordeaux but  we have a you know a six-month old baby and you
  132. 13:15know and then our niece and nephew have allergies  to this or something right so these constraints
  133. 13:22layers of constraint it can handle that. Yeah.  Yeah. Yeah. That Yeah. That's when it's really
  134. 13:28really um useful. Ess yeah for parents for  every Oh my gosh. It can it can really be
  135. 13:33the greatest. Let's do a role play. Okay. So,  we're eating dinner and you were eating dinner
  136. 13:38at my house here. All right. Okay. Here we go.  Thanks for having me. Okay. Sure. Uh Lindsay,
  137. 13:45this is delicious. Oh, thanks. I'm glad you like  it. Do you know where I got the recipe? Chachi
  138. 13:49tea. Oh, really? Yeah. I've recently started using  chachi tea for cooking. It's been really helpful.
  139. 13:57Oh, I have to try that. Do you use chat GBT or AI?  Actually, a little. I mean, did you know you can
  140. 14:04use it to make travel itineraries? I'm using it  for my upcoming trip. It's really beneficial. I
  141. 14:09will have to try that. Oh, man. I didn't even  see our plans down here that we were going to
  142. 14:13talk about. I feel like sometimes that happens on  this show. We talk about something spontaneously
  143. 14:17and then and then it's in the role. Exactly.  Yeah. Exactly. Exactly. It happens. So, um, you
  144. 14:26said I I said, "This is delicious." And you said,  "Thanks. I'm glad you like it." And then you said,
  145. 14:30"Do you know where I got the recipe chat?" Nice.  Nice. And I said, "Oh, really?" And you said,
  146. 14:36"Yeah, I've recently started using Chad GBT  for cooking. It's been really helpful." And
  147. 14:41that's one of those adjectives that we listed  like beneficial, valuable, useful, helpful,
  148. 14:46all good. Yep. And then I said, "I have to try  that." And you said so you were you kind of wanted
  149. 14:53to continue the discussion and you said do you use  chat GBT? And you said actually a little did you
  150. 14:59know you can use it to make travel itineraries  right so nice and then I said I'm using it for
  151. 15:07my upcoming trip it's really beneficial. Nice. All  right. So again, I mean, I feel like we're hearing
  152. 15:14about AI in the news all the time, every day,  but here, guys, we've given you really practical
  153. 15:19tools to use this as a fluency building topic,  right? Keep the conversation going. Connection.
  154. 15:26Connection. Exactly. Yeah. We we better we got to  get with the times, right? And start using this
  155. 15:32to connect because people do get excited about  it like, oh, I can and I used it for this and I
  156. 15:38used it for that. And because it's so it's still  so fresh and new and there's a lot there's a lot
  157. 15:45we can learn and again I like this idea that we'll  do a followup on how to talk about the things that
  158. 15:51concern us about AI chatbt things like that. So  that'd be a great episode. Um, so hit follow and
  159. 15:57guys check out episode 2637. That was can't get  over it. How to talk about sunsets, concerts,
  160. 16:03and more. And maybe you'll use it to talk about  chat GPT, right? I can't get over how Yeah. Um,
  161. 16:10helpful. It's been with my cooking or something  like that. Exactly. And I think the takeaway here
  162. 16:14is a lot of our listeners say a big challenge  is coming up with topics for conversation,
  163. 16:19but you don't need to like stress your brain  trying to come up with this brilliant topic.
  164. 16:24Here's a great one that's very everyone most  people in the world can relate to this, right? Um,
  165. 16:31most people have something to say. So, don't feel  like you have to be so artistic in the topics that
  166. 16:36you come up with. Okay. There's no reason that  you have to draw a blank. Just pull from what's
  167. 16:41happening now. Right. Yes. Exactly. All right,  Lindsay. Well, I'm glad we talked about this
  168. 16:48today and guys, we'll be talking to you soon. All  right. Talk soon, Michelle. Bye. All right. Bye.
