Full transcript
- 0:02This video is dedicated to two different types of people.
- 0:04One, you're either not an entrepreneur - and I'm going to make a case why you out to become
- 0:08an entrepreneur - and two, you may be an entrepreneur and you've forgotten why you became an entrepreneur
- 0:15in the first place.
- 0:16So let's get right into it.
- 0:1826 why you ought to become an entrepreneur, in no specific order.
- 0:25#1: The Unknown - there's something exciting about becoming an entrepreneur because every
- 0:31day there's an unknown.
- 0:33What's going to happen with this?
- 0:35What if this takes place?
- 0:36What if that takes place?
- 0:37And it needs to prepare you for certain things.
- 0:40You need to bring out a certain side of you that you've never seen before.
- 0:43That's the unknown.
- 0:44The unknown part brings out a certain unpredictable side of you that you can only see if you're
- 0:49an entrepreneur.
- 0:50And being an employee, you know, it's pretty much, "Hey, we're doing this" - unless you're
- 0:53in an environment that's constantly growing, for the most part, most people it's every
- 0:55day it's the same exact thing.
- 0:58So #1, is unknown.
- 1:00#2:Constantly having to meet a newer, better version of yourself.
- 1:05So think about this.
- 1:06Think about you're 30 years old, watching this.
- 1:08If you're an entrepreneur, and you don't recreate yourself every 90 days, you aren't going to
- 1:14make it as an entrepreneur.
- 1:16You're going to get crushed by somebody else.
- 1:18If you aren't constantly improving yourself, you're going to get hammered by somebody else.
- 1:21So the great thing about becoming an entrepreneur and you're 30, imagine what you're going to
- 1:25be at 31.
- 1:26That's exciting!
- 1:28Imagine what you're going to be at 32, at 33, 34, oh my God, 40, 45, 48, 50!
- 1:34Man, how am I going to be at 50?
- 1:37You may be watching this and you're 17.
- 1:40How will you be at 22?
- 1:42How will you be at 27?
- 1:44At 29?
- 1:45That's the exciting part of seeing a better version of you.
- 1:49It's like an award-winning movie you're watching that every time I'm going to be the new character,
- 1:55but the entire character is who?
- 1:57You.
- 1:58#3: Freedom - you have the freedom to do a lot of different things.
- 2:01Freedom is a big part of it.
- 2:03Most people don't have the freedom that they want when you have a job.
- 2:06The freedom could be making as much money as you want to make, freedom to travel, see
- 2:09the world, freedom to where you want to live, zip code, all this other stuff.
- 2:12It's freedom.
- 2:13#4: It's the greatest game you'll ever play.
- 2:16So if you're watching this and say, "I love video games."
- 2:18For some people that love video games.
- 2:20If you're watching this, "I love board games."
- 2:23What are some of the board games we play?
- 2:25Monopoly, what else is there?
- 2:27Chess, Life, or Clue, Monopoly -- I mean, these things are games because it's like how
- 2:38can I win in this game?
- 2:40Becoming an entrepreneur is the greatest board game you'll ever play.
- 2:43Let me tell you.
- 2:44There's not a better board game than being.
- 2:46. . mark my words, there's not a better board game than becoming an entrepreneur, because
- 2:51it's a game you're playing, there's a score, there's excitement, there's strategy, there's
- 2:55team partnership, collaboration, it's exciting when you're running a game for the rest of
- 3:01your life, and can you imagine playing a game for 50 more years?
- 3:04That's becoming an entrepreneur.
- 3:06#5:No politics.
- 3:08When I say no politics, look, no matter what you ever do, there's going to be some level
- 3:12of politics.
- 3:13But in the world of business, as an entrepreneur, if you kind of want to do what you want to
- 3:18do, there's a lot of things you can do.
- 3:19You have flexibility.
- 3:20Now is it smart to go around and telling everybody off all the time?
- 3:24Of course not.
- 3:25Then you're not creating synergistic relationships.
- 3:27But you don't have the politics of I better do this before I move up and I have to kiss
- 3:32his butt before I move up.
- 3:33There is none of that going on in the world of entrepreneurship.
- 3:36#6: Get paid what you're worth.
- 3:37What do you want to make?
- 3:38You're going to get paid.
- 3:39By the way, if you're an entrepreneur and you're saying, "Well, you know, I only make
- 3:42$30,000 a year as an entrepreneur."
- 3:44That's what you're worth today, based on your effort, improvement, progress, innovation,
- 3:48thinking, creativity, work ethic, all of that stuff.
- 3:51If you're an entrepreneur making 2 million dollars a year right now, guess what you're
- 3:54worth?
- 3:55You are worth 2 million dollars a year as an entrepreneur.
- 3:57#7: You're fireproof.
- 3:59What's fireproof?
- 4:00No one can fire you.
- 4:02The only people that can fire you are your customers and your employees.
- 4:06But everybody else, no one can come and say, you're fired today.
- 4:09Nope.
- 4:10You can't get fired.
- 4:11There's no one that can fire you.
- 4:12You're fireproof.
- 4:13#8: Happiness.
- 4:16Generally, you meet bitter people, bitter people are simply coming from a state of not
- 4:21improving.
- 4:22If somebody doesn't improve, they're bitter.
- 4:24You meet happy people, they're typically improving and they're typically creating.
- 4:30Bitter people don't improve, don't create, Happy people improve and create.
- 4:35There's a certain level of high you get when you're improving and you're creating.
- 4:39Happiness comes from that.
- 4:40You know, a lot of people say, "My gosh, why are entrepreneurs so fired up and energized?"
- 4:45You go try to create an improve and see what happens to you.
- 4:47You'll be very happy yourself as well.
- 4:49#9: You don't have to be a genius.
- 4:51You know, you do not have to be a genius to make it as an entrepreneur.
- 4:55Why?
- 4:56You can always recruit geniuses.
- 4:58You can always recruit people that are 10 times smarter than you.
- 5:01Sometimes in the corporate world, you have to be a genius to move up, but you have to
- 5:04do a lot of things to move up, and all these fancy.
- 5:05. . you don't have to worry about that as an entrepreneur.
- 5:08You can simply be a very good recruiter of genius minds and then that helps you grow
- 5:14as an entrepreneur.
- 5:15#10: It's the closest thing you'll play to sports.
- 5:18So if you love sports, and you're a person that loves your football or baseball or basketball
- 5:23or swimming or soccer or hockey, whatever it is, and you played high school football
- 5:27or high school basketball, college maybe, or you were professional for some of you guys
- 5:31that are professional sports that you follow me and we talk about it all the time, and
- 5:34afterwards, if you've played competitive sports, and that part is missing - man, it's as if
- 5:41a part of you died.
- 5:42Literally.
- 5:43It's as if a part of you died.
- 5:46If you played sports and there's no more sports or competition, it's the sports of business.
- 5:52Similar things take place -- practice, putting a team together, competition, leaders, stats,
- 5:57showing up early, leaving late, hitting the weights, all of that is combined together
- 6:03because it's the closest thing you'll play to sports.
- 6:05#11: Creativity.
- 6:06You can use your creativity in so many different ways - strategies, marketing, creating an
- 6:12edge, product, events, sales, contests - so many different ways you can use your creativity.
- 6:21#12: Community - you're part of a community.
- 6:25You're part of a community of other entrepreneurs.
- 6:27You speak a certain language that other entrepreneurs speak.
- 6:30Have you ever gone to a certain city or certain country and they speak a different language
- 6:34and you kind of look at everybody like, "Man, I wish I spoke their language"?
- 6:37When two entrepreneurs speak, and other people are not entrepreneurs - everybody says, I
- 6:42spoke the language of entrepreneurship.
- 6:43Man, we speak a very nice, unique, language.
- 6:49That's sexy, ain't it?
- 6:51It's sexy.
- 6:52When you become an entrepreneur, you're part of a certain community that we speak a complete
- 6:55different language.
- 6:56#13: Contribution.
- 6:57You are contributing to society.
- 6:59You are creating jobs.
- 7:01You are helping people advance in life.
- 7:03You are helping design better products, better than competitors so customers are happy.
- 7:08Contribution.
- 7:09You help non-profit organizations.
- 7:11You help people that need help.
- 7:13Contribution - it's very fulfilling when you're contributing.
- 7:15#14: Control - You can control in many different ways.
- 7:18You can control in time, you can control in freedom, you can control in so many different
- 7:22ways that you have control over.
- 7:24#15: As an entrepreneur, one of the reasons why you ought to be an entrepreneur is if
- 7:28you're a little bit weird, if you're watching us and you're a little bit weird, you're off,
- 7:35you're crazy, maybe people have said you have ADD or ADHD, your hypomanic or manic or whatever
- 7:40it is - you're a little bit off.
- 7:41You're weird, you're different than anybody else.
- 7:43I mean, you've got like three or four different personalities.
- 7:45This is perfect for you, just so you realize it.
- 7:48In the world of business, that is a compliment.
- 7:51In a world of corporate, you're weird.
- 7:53In the world of business, you're a genius.
- 7:56Wow!
- 7:57Look at this mind!
- 7:58And you're kind of like, man, I felt like a fool and now I feel like I'm partying with
- 8:02a bunch of other weird people and I'm an entrepreneur.
- 8:05I've finally found a group I belong to.
- 8:08Next, dress attire.
- 8:11I had somebody that came to my office the other day, an executive from a major insurance
- 8:16company.
- 8:17He said, "Oh wow, so you're dressed casually today."
- 8:18I said, "No, this is my attire.
- 8:20I love capitalism.
- 8:22I am an entrepreneur.
- 8:23This is how I dress.
- 8:25And every once in a while I put on a suit for special occasions, and today doesn't happen
- 8:29to be a special occasion.
- 8:30Why?
- 8:31Because I'm an entrepreneur!
- 8:33This is how I like to dress.
- 8:34This is how I dress.
- 8:35Now my closet is stacked with a bunch of suits.
- 8:37I like to dress like this as an entrepreneur because I can dress like this as an entrepreneur.
- 8:41And as long as I'm professional and I know what I'm talking about, people still do business
- 8:45with me.
- 8:46Next, to have a voice.
- 8:48You can have a voice.
- 8:49You can have a voice in your community.
- 8:51You can have a voice in your state.
- 8:52You can have a voice because you're talking in an area where you know what you're talking
- 8:55about, as an entrepreneur you have a bigger platform, you have a bigger megaphone.
- 8:59You have a voice.
- 9:00#18:Changing the world.
- 9:02There's something special about changing the world.
- 9:03Let me tell you something.
- 9:04Some people say, My gosh, you know, you really think you can change the world?
- 9:09You're a dreamer!
- 9:10You sound like a six-year-old kid, watching some of these fantasy movies.
- 9:15You can't change the world!
- 9:17This isn't Avatar the movie.
- 9:19This ain't no cartoon.
- 9:20You ain't He-Man or Transformers or Spiderman or Superman or Batman or all this other stuff.
- 9:27Well, let me tell you something.
- 9:30There are a lot of superheroes in the world, except they don't have a cape on.
- 9:36They're entrepreneurs.
- 9:37And they're changing the world in many different ways.
- 9:39Bill Gates is a hero.
- 9:40He changed the world.
- 9:42Steve Jobs changed the world.
- 9:43Bezos changed the world.
- 9:45Walton changed the world.
- 9:46Musk changed the world.
- 9:48Rockefeller changed the world.
- 9:50So many people changed the world, as an entrepreneur.
- 9:53And not only with the jobs they created and the business they created, on the side, giving
- 9:58to charity.
- 9:59Maybe not everybody, but a lot of them give so much money to charity.
- 10:01Look at Buffett right now, and the kind of money he gives to charity.
- 10:03Look at what Gates wants to do.
- 10:05He wants to cure so many different viruses around the world, because it's his mission.
- 10:09He's worth 60, 70, 80 billion bucks - changing the world, baby.
- 10:13It's such an incredible high to know that you can change the world.
- 10:16#19: I got a message earlier today, I don't know if it's like a current thing or whatever
- 10:23it is, people message me and say, "Pat, what do you think about marijuana as a form of
- 10:28therapy?"
- 10:29So what do you think about LSD or cocaine or ecstasy because it helps with creativity.
- 10:34How do I describe this in the nicest way possible?
- 10:39Because we have a lot of young people that follow me.
- 10:40Let me explain it to you this way.
- 10:44Why do people use drugs?
- 10:47People use drugs because they get what?
- 10:50Either they want to escape their existing life that they don't like, and using this
- 10:56drug takes me to a completely different state, so I can escape the life that I don't like,
- 11:02or I can use the idea of me, when I smoke weed, I come out with some incredible ideas
- 11:07because I'm high, and it taps into my creativity, etc. etc. etc.
- 11:12And you know studies have shown that there's nothing wrong with smoking weed, all this
- 11:15argument that happens.
- 11:17Okay, weed is a natural thing to use, no problem, you want to make that case.
- 11:21Phenomenal you want to make that case.
- 11:24And you're high when you smoke weed for 30 minutes or an hour, or you do all these other
- 11:29things.
- 11:30Man, the greatest highs in life are natural highs that last 10 years.
- 11:35Can you imagine being high for 10 years?
- 11:38That's what it is when you're an entrepreneur.
- 11:39You're high for life.
- 11:41Literally, I am high half the time.
- 11:44I am always high.
- 11:45I'm currently high.
- 11:46You just don't know it.
- 11:48My eyes don't turn red.
- 11:49I don't start seeing like, when you do shrooms and I'm seeing like butterflies and I see
- 11:54like a flying dinosaur, like a unicorn, what as that one movie, Neverending Story, with
- 11:59that white dog that looks like a little shiatsu - like man, but literally, when I tell you
- 12:05this, I am high, like you wouldn't believe.
- 12:09I am high like you wouldn't believe.
- 12:11Except I don't use drugs.
- 12:13Naturally high.
- 12:14Somebody asked me today, they said, "Pat, how come you don't drink coffee."
- 12:16Because you know I don't drink coffee.
- 12:18I said, "It's very easy.
- 12:19The reason I don't drink coffee is, why would a 20-year-old kid use Viagra?"
- 12:22Wait a minute, I don't get it.
- 12:24A 20-year-old boy doesn't need Viagra.
- 12:25Maybe Viagra you use in your 50s and 60s.
- 12:28But at 20-years-old to use Viagra?
- 12:30Why am I going to drink coffee in my 20s and 30s?
- 12:34My coffee should be exercise.
- 12:35I'll drink coffee in my 50s and 60s.
- 12:39I don't need coffee right now!
- 12:40Because it's a natural high, baby.
- 12:43I want to be naturally high.
- 12:45As an entrepreneur, you can have a lot of natural highs.
- 12:49#20.
- 12:50Boredom?
- 12:51You ain't never going to be bored.
- 12:53You've got to be ready all the time because there's a lot of surprises.
- 12:58You don't have time to be bored as an entrepreneur.
- 13:00#21.
- 13:01Age doesn't matter.
- 13:02You're 21, it's okay.
- 13:04You're 16, all good.
- 13:05You're 38, fine.
- 13:0773, totally fine.
- 13:0982, cool.
- 13:11Age doesn't matter in the world of entrepreneurship.
- 13:14Let me explain to you why that's so important.
- 13:16I get so many questions.
- 13:17Pat, what do I do?
- 13:19I was a former executive for Sony, making 400 grand a year and I was with them for 20
- 13:26years.
- 13:27And now, nobody wants to hire me.
- 13:28I'm 62 years old.
- 13:29Everywhere I go, I hear the famous thing which is what?
- 13:32You are overqualified.
- 13:34Then I get comments from people, "I'm 15 years old.
- 13:37My mom and dad don't believe I can do this and.
- 13:40. . all this other stuff.
- 13:41What do I do?"
- 13:42In the world of entrepreneurship, your age doesn't matter.
- 13:44Your age doesn't matter at all.
- 13:46It's zero.
- 13:47It has nothing to do with your age, as an entrepreneur.
- 13:50We did a video last week - does age matter as an entrepreneur?
- 14:00If you haven't watched it, you can go watch it from last week, does age matter as an entrepreneur.
- 14:04And age has nothing to do in the world of entrepreneurship.
- 14:07#22.
- 14:08Legacy.
- 14:09You know, legacy is powerful.
- 14:11When you die, and this thing is done, and your spirit goes wherever it's going to go,
- 14:16whether you believe there's a heaven, reincarnation, nothing, you're done, you know, it replaces
- 14:22into an animal or plant - whatever you think.
- 14:24Whatever your belief system is on that.
- 14:28There's nothing like your kid saying, "My mom, my dad left a legacy for us that we're
- 14:35going to be talking about forever.
- 14:36There's nothing like your grandkids saying, "One day I'm going to be like you."
- 14:38You.
- 14:39I want to be like you.
- 14:40You know what that feels like?
- 14:41It's priceless.
- 14:42Legacy, baby.
- 14:43There's nothing like your community saying man, this gal, changed the entire city.
- 14:49This dude changed the entire world, because of the legacy you left behind.
- 14:54You may have only lived 80 years, but your legacy is going to live two, three thousand
- 14:59years.
- 15:00Your legacy doesn't have an age.
- 15:01Your legacy outlives your age of how many years you live.
- 15:05That's the legacy.
- 15:06Man, history books, like this, why not chase that?
- 15:11That's entrepreneurship for you.
- 15:13#23: Recognition - If you like recognition, competing and all that stuff, there's leaders
- 15:17in the world of entrepreneurship so you're going to be recognized quite a lot.
- 15:20#24: No degrees needed - I don't have a degree.
- 15:23I don't have a four-year degree, I don't have a two-year degree, and I just got accepted
- 15:27to a university.
- 15:28I'll be announcing to you guys here shortly on what took place; stay tuned for it.
- 15:30That's going to shock everybody on what happened.
- 15:32I told myself, If I ever go to college, or university, I will only go to one that accepts
- 15:38me, and I'll be announcing that here in the next few on which one that is and you'll hear
- 15:41about that here shortly.
- 15:42But no degrees needed.
- 15:44I don't have a four-year, I don't have a two-year, I don't have any of that stuff.
- 15:47None of those things.
- 15:48You don't need a degree as an entrepreneur.
- 15:50#25: You develop unique muscles.
- 15:52Let me tell you what I mean by developing unique muscles.
- 15:54In the world of body building, if I grab a dumbbell and I curl, what am I building?
- 15:59Biceps.
- 16:00If I grab a curl bar and I do nose crushers, right, I'm developing triceps.
- 16:06If I grab a bench press and I'm doing bench press, I'm developing my chest.
- 16:09If I do shoulder press, I'm doing shoulders.
- 16:11If I do traps, I'm working on my traps.
- 16:15If I do squats, legs.
- 16:17No matter how much you work out all these muscles, there's certain muscles you can't
- 16:21work unless you swim.
- 16:23There is no gym, there's no machine at the gym that works the muscles that your body
- 16:29works if you swim.
- 16:30There are no machines at the gym that can develop your muscles that swimming can develop.
- 16:36What does this mean?
- 16:37Have you ever seen a swimmer's body?
- 16:39Ever seen Michael Phelps, what he looks like?
- 16:42Their body forms in a completely different way, because there's a muscle you develop
- 16:45when you swim that you can't hit with the weights, right?
- 16:47So you say, "Pat, what does that have to do with anything?"
- 16:49See, you have so many gifts and talents you don't ever know about - most people never
- 16:53see it, unless you become an entrepreneur, you will never know about it.
- 16:58When you become an entrepreneur, you all of a sudden say, I never knew I was good in this,
- 17:02this, this.
- 17:03But I can write it and say that's this strength and that's that gift.
- 17:05The only way you'll know about that is if you become an entrepreneur.
- 17:08Can you imagine living 80 years and you die and never find out about those two, three
- 17:11gifts that you had that can make an impact on the world?
- 17:13Why would you want to sacrifice your capacity?
- 17:14Why would you want to sacrifice your capacity?
- 17:16Is it really worth it?
- 17:17I don't think so.
- 17:18But you become an entrepreneur, you find out about your unique gifts that you have.
- 17:21And last but not least, location.
- 17:23You can be an entrepreneur from any part of the world.
- 17:25It doesn't matter where you want to be.
- 17:27I used to life in L.A., decided to move my office to Dallas, Texas.
- 17:30Now we're headquartered out of Dallas, Texas.
- 17:32It's all good.
- 17:33I don't have to be in L.A. I can be out here.
- 17:34I talked to John Lee Dumas this morning when were were doing his podcast.
- 17:39John Lee Dumas, Entrepreneur on Fire, and he told me he's out of where?
- 17:43Puerto Rico.
- 17:44He was telling me all these things on why he just moved to Puerto Rico in May, which
- 17:46is fascinating for him to move to Puerto Rico.
- 17:49He can do that.
- 17:50He's an entrepreneur.
- 17:51There's so many -- where do you want to live?
- 17:52Do you want to live in NYC?
- 17:53You can do it.
- 17:54You want to live in Miami?
- 17:55You can do it.
- 17:56You want to run out of Austin, you want to run out of San Fran, San Jose, where do you
- 17:58want to run out of?
- 18:00You can do it as an entrepreneur because there's business to be done pretty much anywhere in
- 18:05the world.
- 18:06So, with that being said, listen.
- 18:09People often ask me, they say, Pat, man, you always wear those shirts.
- 18:14Let me explain to you.
- 18:15I can't stand it when I wake up in the morning or the night before and have to pick out my
- 18:20suit and my outfit.
- 18:22There's nothing like putting a suit on.
- 18:24I love putting a suit on.
- 18:26I mean, I love wearing suits.
- 18:30I love wearing suits.
- 18:31There's something nice about wearing a nice suit that fits you like a glove, that's a
- 18:35tailored suit that just feels so good when you wear a nice suit, right?
- 18:39It's fascinating when you wear a nice suit.
- 18:41But there's a uniform for entrepreneurs and that is called, I am an Entrepreneur shirt.
- 18:46If you see me in the mall, you see me in the airport, you see me on a plane, you see me
- 18:50speaking, you see me anywhere, I'm wearing a shirt that says, "I am an entrepreneur,"
- 18:55which looks like this -- let's put a picture up, so they can see it.
- 18:58Or, I wear a shirt that says, "I love Capitalism."
- 19:03Entrepreneurship, free enterprise, capitalism, it's all the same thing.
- 19:07You can't be an entrepreneur and not think about capitalism.
- 19:11It's the same exact thing.
- 19:14Entrepreneurship, capitalism, free enterprise is the same thing.
- 19:18If you don't like the word capitalism, maybe it's because the media has convinced you that
- 19:21it's not a good thing.
- 19:22Capitalism is a great thing.
- 19:23Entrepreneurship is a great thing.
- 19:25Free enterprise is a great thing.
- 19:26They don't go without each other.
- 19:27They need each other to be effective.
- 19:29So I love wearing these shirts that says, "I love capitalism."
- 19:34or enjoy capitalism, or I'm an entrepreneur.
- 19:36And I'll walk around in the airport and hundreds of people will come up to me and say, "Man,
- 19:41I'm an entrepreneur as well."
- 19:42So from the moment we launched these shirts, the first time I wore it, and the next thing
- 19:46people asked, "How can I get the shirt?"
- 19:47So then we had our guy design the shirts so other people can get it as well.
- 19:52I don't know what's the price point.
- 19:53I think it's like 22, 23, 24 bucks, all these different sizes.
- 19:56And people all over the world have ordered hundreds and they're wearing them proudly.
- 20:03So here's what I'm going to do.
- 20:05Order your shirt, I'm an entrepreneur, with the Valuetainment logo - you're going to hear
