- 0:15Hello and welcome back everyone to
- 0:16Unreal Engine 5 beginner's guide to
- 0:18building an environment. In the last
- 0:19lesson, we left it off by sorting out
- 0:21the roof for our wooden hut. And in this
- 0:24lesson, we're going to continue working
- 0:25on it. And this time we're going to
- 0:28start placing some of the foundation to
- 0:30break off some of the edges that are
- 0:32near the terrain, the bottom of the
- 0:34terrain. So, let's go ahead and get into
- 0:36it. And for that, we'll need to go into
- 0:39the quicksill. So, let's go ahead and
- 0:41open that up. Quicksill bridge like so.
- 0:44And I think we can just search for stone
- 0:46moss
- 0:48like so. And we can also add a wall. So,
- 0:51stone, moss, wall. Using these three key
- 0:55searches, we can probably find the ones
- 0:58that we want. So, there you go. We're
- 1:00going to find ourselves the mossy stone
- 1:02wall. And if we were to click on it,
- 1:05we're going to make use out of that. So,
- 1:06let's go ahead and make sure we download
- 1:08this. And within it, we're going to find
- 1:10the related assets. There are two
- 1:12variations, but we'll only need one of
- 1:13them. And that is going to be this one
- 1:16over here. So, let's go ahead and make
- 1:18sure we download them. And there's a
- 1:20third variation though, but I think we
- 1:23can get away with just using two
- 1:25variations. So, let's go ahead and just
- 1:26use these two over here. So, once we
- 1:28have them downloaded, let's go ahead and
- 1:30add them both onto our project like so.
- 1:33And then afterwards, let's go ahead and
- 1:35close this down and make use out of
- 1:37them. So, right away within the 3D
- 1:40assets, we're going to get ourselves the
- 1:42mossy stone wall, the first one and the
- 1:44second one. Both of them the variations.
- 1:47And we're going to just simply start off
- 1:49by bringing them into the world and see
- 1:52how they look like. So by default, one
- 1:54might look like it's a different color,
- 1:56but that is because it's set up in a way
- 1:59that there's moss only on one end. So
- 2:02we, as we can see that there's moss over
- 2:04here, for example, but there isn't as
- 2:06much over here. So what we need to do is
- 2:08actually I think we're just going to
- 2:10start off by selecting one of them and
- 2:12just rotating them by 180° like so.
- 2:16That way we'll have moss on both ends
- 2:18because when we're going to be placing
- 2:20them up, we'll want to make sure that
- 2:22the moss is being placed on the sides of
- 2:25the house. And that'll make sure that'll
- 2:27just mean that we can't make use out of
- 2:30this end of the wall because it's not as
- 2:33small. It's not going to fit quite as
- 2:35nice with the rest of the ends. So,
- 2:38let's go ahead and just straight up make
- 2:40use out of these. And actually, I think
- 2:42before doing that, let's go ahead and
- 2:43make sure we select both of them and
- 2:45change up the scale. I think they're
- 2:47going to be a little bit too small by
- 2:48default. So, we're going to change up
- 2:50the scale from one and set it up to
- 2:531.25. Maybe that might look much nicer
- 2:57in regards to how the house would look
- 2:59like. Or we might even try using 1.5
- 3:02instead. And I'm just going to bring
- 3:05them next to the house to see how they
- 3:06look like. Let's just make sure that we
- 3:08are placing it into the terrain itself.
- 3:11And after having a look at it, we might
- 3:14actually be able to get away with this.
- 3:16I think that would look quite nice all
- 3:18in all. So, let's go ahead and make use
- 3:19out of this kind of a scale as 1.5.
- 3:23So, we have one longer and one shorter
- 3:26end of the mossy stone wall. And with
- 3:30the shorter one, we're just going to
- 3:31make use out of it and place it at the
- 3:33end of a shorter wall like so. Of
- 3:36course, by default, this might be a
- 3:39little bit too much, too long. So, we're
- 3:40going to click R and slightly squish it
- 3:43down just like that. So, let's just make
- 3:46sure we not overdo it because otherwise,
- 3:48if we just squish it too much, it will
- 3:49look too too
- 3:52unnatural as a type of a rock formation.
- 3:54So, we don't want to make use out of
- 3:57that too much. And we just want to make
- 3:58it look organic like it's been placed,
- 4:00like nice type of stones that aren't
- 4:02squished down. So, I think by doing it
- 4:05just a little bit, it's going to look
- 4:06quite all right. But we do want to me
- 4:08leave some gaps off on the ends. That
- 4:11way, we'll be able to build off the
- 4:13sides as well. And we also want to make
- 4:15sure that we place it on the side of the
- 4:19house and not too much into it.
- 4:21Otherwise, we're not going to have a
- 4:23real nice result for breaking off the
- 4:25edges. So, this way, if we place it just
- 4:27on on the side like so, we're going to
- 4:29get some nice results for the house. So,
- 4:32now that we have the first house, the
- 4:34first wall done, we're going to move on.
- 4:36And actually,
- 4:38we're going to switch it on over here as
- 4:41well. That's going to be another short
- 4:42wall. Or actually, we might even use a
- 4:45short wall over here. I'm currently
- 4:48thinking if that's a good idea, we might
- 4:49need to just make use out of a longer
- 4:51wall. So, let's try using a longer wall
- 4:53over here and see how this goes. Plus,
- 4:56because it's a different variation,
- 4:58we're going to get a different kind of
- 4:59result. And so the pattern is not going
- 5:01to be repeated as much. We're going to
- 5:03get a much more organic of a result if
- 5:05we just break off the variations using
- 5:08different types of meshes.
- 5:10So I think we can just place this into
- 5:12the house like so. And that might look
- 5:15quite nice. And then we can just bring
- 5:18this outwards like so. Holding alt and
- 5:21making a duplicate out of it. And then
- 5:24slightly rotating it like so. And
- 5:26bringing it outwards. So, because this
- 5:28is quite a high dens uh mesh, we're
- 5:31going to get some really nice results
- 5:33for how they interact with one another.
- 5:36And the seams are going to be really
- 5:38nice placed together. So, if we were to
- 5:40go to the wireframe mode, we can see the
- 5:42type of a density within our mesh, which
- 5:45actually is quite nice. So, I'm just
- 5:48going to go back into the lit mode and
- 5:50see the results. And for this one, we
- 5:53might need to
- 5:55Yeah, let's go ahead and grab the
- 5:57shorter one and slightly lower it down.
- 5:58I think we want to keep more or less the
- 6:01same sort of a height or even a little
- 6:04bit shorter. Actually, just trying to
- 6:07think which way would look best because
- 6:10we're just trying to get some real nice
- 6:12seams in a corner. And actually,
- 6:16we might want to bring this outwards
- 6:18just a little bit more. or we're going
- 6:21to leave it as is for now and figure out
- 6:23how we're going to attach them on the
- 6:26end. I think we might even want to bring
- 6:29this inwards even more. So, we' have a
- 6:32really nice edge over here. I think
- 6:35that's going to work quite nice. So, now
- 6:37we're just going to set it up like so
- 6:39for now. And we're going to have a nice
- 6:41door on this edge. So, for now, let's
- 6:43not worry about it too much about this
- 6:46edge and continue placing these types of
- 6:49stone walls around it as a base of the
- 6:51house. And the other end is quite long.
- 6:54So, let's go ahead and grab the longer
- 6:56area like so. Hold alt and make a
- 6:59duplicate out of it. And of course,
- 7:00because this isn't a mossy end, we're
- 7:02going to rotate this around. Of course,
- 7:05while doing those uh this kind of a
- 7:07thing, because we're only using one end,
- 7:09we might be worried a little bit about
- 7:11the repetitiveness of the entire mesh
- 7:13because we're only using this one and we
- 7:15can't have a lot of variations. But by
- 7:18just simply using two assets, two
- 7:20meshes, we might get away with it.
- 7:22Especially since this is quite a noisy
- 7:25type of a mesh, has a lot of detail
- 7:27within it. So, it's quite hard to see
- 7:29the pattern within it. and it is in turn
- 7:33not quite as noticeable when we have
- 7:36multiple of the assets set one next to
- 7:38each other. So, we're going to make a
- 7:40duplicate again next to one another like
- 7:43so. We're going to grab both of them,
- 7:45click R, and then squish them together
- 7:48like so. Because otherwise, I think that
- 7:50would have been a little bit too long of
- 7:52a side of the wall. And I think in turn
- 7:56if we make it like so, we're going to
- 7:58get some really nice results. So just
- 8:01like that, we're able to get some nice
- 8:02results. I think we're going to get this
- 8:05along wall as well in a similar kind of
- 8:07manner. So I'm going to grab both of
- 8:08them actually holding alt and making a
- 8:10duplicate.
- 8:12Rotate them 90°. Click W and place them
- 8:17just like that. So, I think
- 8:21this is going to give us some really
- 8:23nice results. Let's just make sure that
- 8:25we're having them placed normally and
- 8:28that's not going to affect the sides of
- 8:31the walls too much. So, we're just going
- 8:32to squish it down a little bit like so.
- 8:36And I'm just going to grab both of them
- 8:38and position them just a little bit like
- 8:41so. Now, this might be going on top of
- 8:45one another. So, I'm just going to grab
- 8:47both of them. Kind of drag it to the
- 8:49side like so. And because actually drag
- 8:53it even more,
- 8:56just like that. Or to the front. I don't
- 8:59quite like the way this is interacting.
- 9:01So, I'm actually going to raise this up
- 9:03quite a bit. And I think, yeah, let's go
- 9:05ahead and leave this shorter end at the
- 9:08very top. This way, we get some really
- 9:10nice interactions with one another and
- 9:12some really nice seams. So, I think now
- 9:15that we have this end kind of sorted,
- 9:17we're just going to make sure we got the
- 9:18other end sorted as well. And that's why
- 9:21I think we're only going to be changing
- 9:23up the scale for this end only. So, we
- 9:26wouldn't be touching the other end of
- 9:28the seam. And I think we're just going
- 9:31to click R, scale it down just a little
- 9:34bit, like so. We might even just drag it
- 9:37downwards just a little bit. And I think
- 9:41that's not going to be quite as
- 9:42noticeable.
- 9:43But in turn, we're going to get some
- 9:45nice seam result over here. So, I think
- 9:47I'll quite like that a lot. And of
- 9:50course, let's not forget to add a stone
- 9:52wall over in this end as well. So, we're
- 9:55going to grab actually let's go ahead
- 9:57and grab a shorter one and place it on
- 10:00this end as well.
- 10:02And if it's not long enough, we might
- 10:05just get away with stretching it out to
- 10:08the side. And I think that will work out
- 10:10quite nicely. Of course, we got to place
- 10:13it into the wall just like that and
- 10:17stretch it out to see if it will work
- 10:19out. So, just doing it like so. The
- 10:22scale is 1.53.
- 10:26I think that's totally okay since the
- 10:28rest of them are 1.5 as well. We didn't
- 10:30stretch it out too much. But looking at
- 10:33the seam, I don't quite like the way it
- 10:35looks. This end is quite nice, but this
- 10:38end is not. I might just get away with
- 10:42moving it to the end a little bit like
- 10:44so and then checking the other end. And
- 10:46I quite like the way this turned out. So
- 10:48yeah, let's go ahead and leave it as is.
- 10:50And then in the next lesson, we're going
- 10:52to continue breaking off the edges and
- 10:54getting a more natural look out of this
- 10:55hut. And we're going to get some beams,
- 10:58wooden beams on the sides of the walls.
- 11:00So yeah, thank you so much for watching
- 11:02and I'll see you in a bit.
