- 0:15>> Hello and welcome back everyone to
- 0:16Unreal Engine 5 beginners guide to
- 0:17building an environment. In the last
- 0:19lesson we left it off by setting our
- 0:21roof to be the way it is. And actually
- 0:23before moving on I'd like to rotate this
- 0:25one around because it doesn't seem to
- 0:27have a nice kind of a texture color. So
- 0:29I'm just going to grab this one, have my
- 0:32snapping tool rotate this 90° maybe that
- 0:35will do or even a little bit more.
- 0:38I just want to make sure we have some
- 0:40matching colors with the one this one
- 0:42over here and I think that's going to be
- 0:43much nicer as a result. Anyways, going
- 0:46back now we're going to set up some
- 0:48color corrections, some materials for
- 0:51this rooftop. So let's go ahead and get
- 0:52right into it. And the way we're going
- 0:54to do it is actually quite simple but I
- 0:57like us to grab everything at once and I
- 0:59think the easiest way would be to
- 1:01do it through not through a perspective
- 1:03but from a side view and we're going to
- 1:06be grabbing all of the materials, all of
- 1:08the assets at once and then we'll be
- 1:09adjusting the material instances to
- 1:12them. So the way we're going to do it is
- 1:14actually we're going to click on the top
- 1:15right button over here and we're going
- 1:17to get ourselves all of the views like
- 1:19so. Then within a perspective view we're
- 1:21just going to grab one of the assets for
- 1:23the roof it doesn't matter which one it
- 1:24is. We're just going to grab one of them
- 1:26and then we're going to let's say we're
- 1:28going to go to the right side and we're
- 1:30going to just right click, just slightly
- 1:33tap it and then this one is going to be
- 1:35selected as a window and afterwards all
- 1:37we got to do is click F and that'll just
- 1:39reposition all of our view to be set to
- 1:42this window.
- 1:44So now we can actually even maximize
- 1:46this entire view like so and we're going
- 1:49to zoom in using our middle mouse wheel.
- 1:52So we're just scrolling it up like so
- 1:54and using right click tapping and
- 1:56holding, we can slightly pan our
- 2:00camera around. But anyways, what we'll
- 2:02want to do is we'll just want to click
- 2:04and hold our left mouse button on the
- 2:06upper left corner, then drag our box
- 2:08across, and make a selection just like
- 2:10that. Of course, everything is going to
- 2:12select be selected, so we're going to
- 2:13hold control.
- 2:15And we're going to make a box at the
- 2:17very bottom. Oh, I'm going to click F.
- 2:19Seems like I made a bit of a mistake,
- 2:21and that now
- 2:23gave me a
- 2:25slightly perspective view. I think I
- 2:27rotated my camera by accident. So, it's
- 2:29an easy fix. All we got to do is click
- 2:31on the upper left corner, and change
- 2:33back from left to right, for example,
- 2:35and that should give us a nice sort of a
- 2:38result. Or actually,
- 2:41I'm going to check maybe
- 2:43Yeah, I think we shorted the entire
- 2:44world, so I'm just going to click
- 2:46control Z and undo it. It seems like
- 2:49that was a bit of a mistake.
- 2:51But yeah, the best way is to just grab
- 2:53the upper
- 2:55bits like so, and then while holding
- 2:57shift,
- 2:58we're actually going to drag our box
- 3:01across.
- 3:02Sorry.
- 3:03Seems like I totally forgot one step,
- 3:05and that would be firstly, if we were to
- 3:07maximize back onto our view, and redo
- 3:10the selection, we're going to
- 3:12make a selection. And the reason it was
- 3:15messing up was because we by default had
- 3:18a translation set to rotation. The gizmo
- 3:21itself was set to rotation, and that was
- 3:24automatically trying to rotate all of
- 3:25our assets. So, instead, what we need to
- 3:27do is actually use a selection mode. So,
- 3:30by clicking Q, we're able to
- 3:33open up this entire view, and
- 3:36this will just make sure that we're not
- 3:38using a rotation or transformation on
- 3:40any of the sort. So, by clicking Q, and
- 3:43now holding control, we're able to drag
- 3:46our box across the bottom section of the
- 3:49roof like so, and by dragging it like
- 3:52so, we're able to make a deselection.
- 3:54And actually we're just going to
- 3:55deselect the smaller roof area over here
- 3:59as well since that was if we were to go
- 4:01back onto our perspective mode like so,
- 4:04that was this roof over here. So anyway,
- 4:06all that we're left with within a
- 4:08selection is the entire upper section of
- 4:11the roof. Now if we scroll down under
- 4:14the materials, we can click display
- 4:17seven materials and we should be seeing
- 4:19all of the materials just like that.
- 4:22So right now there's one that says none
- 4:24and I think that's the base of the
- 4:26shape. I think we can leave it as is
- 4:28though and
- 4:29work with the rest of the assets. So
- 4:32right now
- 4:33we're going to start off by I think by
- 4:36playing around with
- 4:38our
- 4:39beams. So we're going to start off with
- 4:42the wooden beam, the one that's at the
- 4:44very front. We're going to click browse,
- 4:47get the wooden beam material instance
- 4:50and we're going to select it, click
- 4:51control C, control V to make a duplicate
- 4:53out of it and we're going to actually
- 4:55replace this element like so.
- 5:00I'm going to click control Z. It seems
- 5:01like I made a misclick.
- 5:04We're just going to
- 5:06click display materials and now with
- 5:08this one I'm going to just make a
- 5:11replacement just like that.
- 5:14But it seems like every time I do that
- 5:16it just lowers down the material. So all
- 5:19we got to do is make sure that we click
- 5:21display materials again and that should
- 5:24give you the right result. So now that I
- 5:25can see that the underscore free at the
- 5:28very end of the name is the same one as
- 5:30this one, we're not going to bother by
- 5:32renaming them because that would be just
- 5:35an extra time wasted. So we're going to
- 5:37just keep it as is and now we're going
- 5:39to double click on this material
- 5:41instance and just
- 5:43turn on the albedos to start it off. I
- 5:45think we can just play around with the
- 5:46value and see which ones it's being
- 5:48affected. And so these ones are the ones
- 5:50that are being affected, which is pretty
- 5:51nice. Just going to click cancel and
- 5:54play around with the tint. I think we're
- 5:55going to darken it up a little bit like
- 5:57so. Click okay. Then we're going to
- 6:00enable albedo controls.
- 6:02And for these ones we're going to
- 6:03increase the contrast I reckon. Yeah, I
- 6:06think the contrast is going to make it
- 6:07much much nicer.
- 6:09But then we need to I think lower the
- 6:11saturation or maybe increase it. We're
- 6:13going to try increasing it for a bit.
- 6:15But yes, that's that's not going to help
- 6:17us out much. So we're going to lower the
- 6:20saturation to something of a value of
- 6:210.9 to get this sort of result. And I'm
- 6:24going to click G to make sure I hide all
- 6:27of my highlights.
- 6:28In this way I can see the color as is.
- 6:31And already this is looking pretty nice.
- 6:34We might need to increase the brightness
- 6:36a little bit because of the sun that'd
- 6:38be a little bit more bleached out and I
- 6:40want to have more or less uh the same
- 6:43type of a lightness as the roof tiles.
- 6:45Maybe a little bit darker though, just
- 6:47to make sure it kind of highlights the
- 6:49overall edges of the roofs.
- 6:51So maybe something like 1.5.
- 6:55I think that'll do the trick.
- 6:56So we can switch on the albedo controls
- 6:59just to see how it looks like before and
- 7:00after. And I think in general this looks
- 7:04much better. I'm just going to go around
- 7:05just to see how the other end looks
- 7:07like. And
- 7:09yeah, I think this is looking much much
- 7:10better.
- 7:11All we got to do is now switch up the
- 7:14upper ones as well.
- 7:15As well as the decorations of course. So
- 7:17now we're going to close this down and
- 7:19go down the list. So we changed the ones
- 7:23at the front. I think for now we're
- 7:24going to keep it as is. The roof tiles
- 7:26as well are quite nice. So we're keeping
- 7:28them as is as well. And the next one is
- 7:31going to be if we were to go into the
- 7:33folders you see that is going to be
- 7:36these decorative statues. I think
- 7:38by default they already are looking
- 7:40quite nice. Maybe we want to lower the
- 7:42saturation a little bit, so I'm actually
- 7:43going to click Ctrl C, Ctrl V, make a
- 7:46duplicate out of this, and then drag it
- 7:48into its area. And now, just make sure
- 7:51we
- 7:52again unhide the entire elements and see
- 7:55that by hovering over the material, you
- 7:58can see the full name. So, I just want
- 8:00to make sure that in the end, it has the
- 8:02same {underscore}
- 8:03{underscore} two, because when we
- 8:05duplicate it, we just have that added up
- 8:08automatically.
- 8:09So, it seems like it does. We're now
- 8:11going to be able to open it up.
- 8:14And
- 8:15I think we're just going to Yeah, I
- 8:16think we're just going to change the
- 8:17albedo controls and
- 8:20maybe brighten it up
- 8:221.5.
- 8:23Yeah, that seems much better right away.
- 8:25I think I quite like this. And actually,
- 8:29maybe we want to make a little bit more
- 8:31of a tint towards the brownish color
- 8:34or lower the saturation for these beams.
- 8:38Yeah, I think I'll go back to the beams
- 8:39out, change the saturation a little bit.
- 8:41I don't quite like how uh bright, how
- 8:44colorful they are.
- 8:46So, we'll
- 8:47take this off, go back to the previous
- 8:50one, which was this one over here,
- 8:52go into it,
- 8:53and change the saturation to a value of
- 8:560.8. Just a little bit lowering down. I
- 8:58think I like this much better. I'll
- 9:00lower down to an extreme, something like
- 9:020.5, just to see how this looks.
- 9:04Just a bit of too much. 0.6, maybe? 0.7?
- 9:08Yes, we'll go with the value of 0.7. And
- 9:10just like that, we're able to get a real
- 9:12nice kind of result between those two.
- 9:14So, that's quite nice.
- 9:16Now, of course, we're still left with
- 9:18the beams over here on the top. And I
- 9:20think these ones are going to be this
- 9:22one over here. Just going to click on it
- 9:24to see.
- 9:25Yeah, that seems to be the one. Just
- 9:27going to make a duplicate, Ctrl C, Ctrl
- 9:29V, and attach it onto the element.
- 9:32And just making sure that it attached it
- 9:35properly. Uh it seems to be the case.
- 9:38So, underscore free underscore free.
- 9:41That seems to look all right. We're
- 9:43going to open it up.
- 9:45We're going to just play around with the
- 9:46old video controls, I think.
- 9:48Uh make the contrast quite a bit larger,
- 9:50actually.
- 9:52I like the contrast. The saturation can
- 9:53go lower, though.
- 9:56Uh point eight
- 9:57might do the trick.
- 9:59I like this.
- 10:01Maybe a little bit
- 10:02ultra darken this up.
- 10:05point seven
- 10:07Just like that, I think this looks much
- 10:09much better
- 10:10in regards to how the roof looks like.
- 10:13Maybe actually we want to raise this up
- 10:15a little bit
- 10:17or even
- 10:18I think yeah, because we changed up the
- 10:20deformation, we have some roof going
- 10:23inwards. So, I'm going to actually even
- 10:25extend this by a little bit, like so.
- 10:28And bring it a little bit to this side,
- 10:30just like that.
- 10:32This makes sure that the roof is going
- 10:34on top.
- 10:35And this end looks quite as well quite
- 10:37fine as well.
- 10:39This end, though, I'm not sure if I like
- 10:41this one.
- 10:42We might need to adjust it a little bit,
- 10:44just like that. I think that's Yeah, I
- 10:46think that's going to look much nicer,
- 10:47like so.
- 10:49And yeah, we're going to leave it as is
- 10:51and
- 10:52I reckon that's all it takes to make
- 10:54some adjustments to the overall color of
- 10:57the roof.
- 10:58And actually, before I forget, it seems
- 11:00like I missed out this beam over here. I
- 11:03added couple of beams over here just to
- 11:05break the edge. So, I'll do the same
- 11:06thing on this end as well. Going to make
- 11:08it just a quick duplicate, rotate this
- 11:10by 90°, and put it in the right
- 11:12position.
- 11:14So, just like that. Since I seem to have
- 11:16forgotten about it a little bit. That's
- 11:18okay, it's an easy fix.
- 11:20Just like that, we're able to fix it
- 11:21real quick.
- 11:23Going to lower this down maybe a little
- 11:24bit, like so.
- 11:26And I think that looks much much nicer.
- 11:30Bring it up. And yeah, this looks pretty
- 11:32good. Okay. So, yeah, I think that's
- 11:35going to be it for this lesson. In next
- 11:37one, I think we'll make couple of
- 11:38adjustments, a little bit of extra
- 11:40adjustments for the roof, especially for
- 11:42this diagonal beam, since I don't quite
- 11:43like how straight they are. And I think
- 11:46we'll add a little bit of an extra
- 11:47detail, but that's again going to be in
- 11:49the next lesson. So, thanks so much for
- 11:51watching, and I'll see you in a bit.
