  3. 0:15>> Hello and welcome back everyone to
  4. 0:16Unreal Engine 5 beginner's guide to
  5. 0:18building an environment. In the last
  6. 0:20lesson we left it off by setting some of
  7. 0:22the frame for diagonal beams and
  8. 0:23decorating them. And in this lesson
  9. 0:25we're going to continue on with the roof
  10. 0:27and setting up something on the top of
  11. 0:29these areas. So I think the best beam
  12. 0:33that we could use is actually going to
  13. 0:34be the one that we had previously for
  14. 0:37this section over here. We're just going
  15. 0:39to make a duplicate out of this one over
  16. 0:40here right away.
  17. 0:42And actually I'm going to go back onto
  18. 0:44the material. So I'm just going to click
  19. 0:47to browse the content with the material
  20. 0:49instance. I'm just I'm just going to
  21. 0:51place the original material that we had
  22. 0:53previously made a copy out of. So for
  23. 0:55now we're just going to get a default
  24. 0:56sort of a sort of a color and right
  25. 0:59right away we're just going to place it
  26. 1:01in the right position. So we're just
  27. 1:02going to see what it looks like as its
  28. 1:04own sort of a texture. So we're going to
  29. 1:07enable the snapping to a rotation and
  30. 1:11we're we'll set it up as 90°.
  31. 1:14And position our entire beam to be to
  32. 1:17the side of the house. Now I'm trying to
  33. 1:19figure out if it's a good idea to have
  34. 1:23an entire beam
  35. 1:25that in the very top or we should have a
  36. 1:27couple of them. So for example
  37. 1:30there's a lot of options that we could
  38. 1:31use for this one.
  39. 1:33We could either have a larger one
  40. 1:36that just covers it entirely like so.
  41. 1:40Or we could have a
  42. 1:42couple of smaller ones.
  43. 1:44So both are viable options and we could
  44. 1:46even check them out how they look like
  45. 1:48and see if they look any good.
  46. 1:51So for example if we were to grab both
  47. 1:54of these like so
  48. 1:56make a duplicate
  49. 1:57and that might look quite nice.
  50. 2:01We just got to experiment it a little
  51. 2:02bit, see how it looks like from the
  52. 2:03side, and maybe, just maybe, they're
  53. 2:06going to look quite nice all in all.
  54. 2:09But, I think
  55. 2:10we are okay if we just were to use a
  56. 2:13normal
  57. 2:15single beam. I think that's going to
  58. 2:16look much better.
  59. 2:18So, in this in case, we're just going to
  60. 2:20make this one quite a bit larger. And
  61. 2:23actually, I'm going to reset the scale
  62. 2:25first, so we
  63. 2:26sure that we have no distortion in this
  64. 2:28mesh for now. So, within the
  65. 2:31transformation, within the scale, we're
  66. 2:32going to click on the reset this
  67. 2:34property to its default value. So, we're
  68. 2:36going to get its original ratio without
  69. 2:38any distortions. And now, we're just
  70. 2:39going to scale it up in all directions
  71. 2:42without it distorting. And I think
  72. 2:44that's going to be a much better choice.
  73. 2:46So, now we've got to figure out if we
  74. 2:48want it to be this way,
  75. 2:50or if you want to raise it up a little
  76. 2:51bit.
  77. 2:52Maybe that's going to look quite nice.
  78. 2:55What we need to figure out is
  79. 2:57if it's actually not too big, because
  80. 3:00from looking from this way, it might
  81. 3:02just be a little bit too big. So, we're
  82. 3:04going to actually squish it down by
  83. 3:06quite a bit.
  84. 3:07I think that's going to be quite nice.
  85. 3:09Put it down like so. I want to have a
  86. 3:11bit of a gap going overhanging a little
  87. 3:13bit from these tiles. I think that's
  88. 3:15going to be quite nice.
  89. 3:17Just going to check the other side. We
  90. 3:19might need to make this one even wider,
  91. 3:21actually,
  92. 3:22cover this up. It all depends on the
  93. 3:24type of roof that we be having at the
  94. 3:25very top. But, in general, we just
  95. 3:27wanted to make sure we cover the very
  96. 3:29top like so.
  97. 3:31So, we've got some overhanging from this
  98. 3:33area,
  99. 3:34and some overhanging from this area as
  100. 3:36well. Actually, maybe just a little bit
  101. 3:38bigger.
  102. 3:40Like so.
  103. 3:41That's going to look quite nice.
  104. 3:43Yeah, that is looking quite nice. So, I
  105. 3:45like that. And
  106. 3:47think we can
  107. 3:49now probably extend it. Yeah, but that's
  108. 3:51going to If we were to squish it out
  109. 3:54towards like so, thing that's going to
  110. 3:55be too distorted. So, we're going to go
  111. 3:58back. We're going to position one beam
  112. 4:00like so to the side.
  113. 4:01Get another beam.
  114. 4:03Put it on the other end.
  115. 4:04Like so.
  116. 4:06And we're going to actually grab both of
  117. 4:07them and squish them down quite a bit.
  118. 4:11This way we get a lot of detail left
  119. 4:13over and I think it's going to look
  120. 4:15quite nice.
  121. 4:17So, we're just going to make sure we
  122. 4:18position them
  123. 4:19properly.
  124. 4:21So, while having them both grabbed,
  125. 4:23actually we should probably
  126. 4:24make sure we don't have this sort of a
  127. 4:26gap. It's a little bit too much for us.
  128. 4:28I think we should
  129. 4:29hide it a little bit.
  130. 4:31And that's going to be quite all right.
  131. 4:34So, now we're just going to grab both of
  132. 4:35these beams
  133. 4:37and scale them up properly.
  134. 4:40So,
  135. 4:41something like that maybe.
  136. 4:43A little bit too much.
  137. 4:46And I think
  138. 4:48if we were to be having some of that
  139. 4:50beam to be sticking through, I think
  140. 4:51that's going to be quite all right.
  141. 4:53Actually, I will going to reposition
  142. 4:54this beam a little bit to the side.
  143. 4:57And this one a little bit to the front.
  144. 5:00There you go.
  145. 5:02So, now we're sticking some of them
  146. 5:04through. Or actually, I'm just going to
  147. 5:05grab both of them and bring them
  148. 5:07outwards just a little bit more.
  149. 5:10So, half of them will be sticking out. I
  150. 5:11think that's going to be much nicer in
  151. 5:13regards to that.
  152. 5:15And the other side,
  153. 5:17we might need to make it just a little
  154. 5:20bit bigger so it'd be
  155. 5:21touching. I wanted to move this
  156. 5:23individually.
  157. 5:24I'm going to do that. Just that.
  158. 5:28And I think that's going to be quite all
  159. 5:29right.
  160. 5:31Yeah, okay. That's quite nice. Now, we
  161. 5:32need to do the other end as well. So,
  162. 5:34we're just going to grab both of these
  163. 5:35beams. Hold Alt. Make a duplicate out of
  164. 5:38it. Click E. Rotate it 90°.
  165. 5:41And position them to the side just like
  166. 5:44that.
  167. 5:45Bring them back. Uh bring them to the
  168. 5:48front edges.
  169. 5:49And
  170. 5:50I'm going to think how I'm going to
  171. 5:51break these edges over here.
  172. 5:54I don't want to make it
  173. 5:57too much stick it out, but at the same
  174. 5:58time we should definitely
  175. 6:00have it some overlap over here.
  176. 6:03So, I think
  177. 6:04by looking we do have a bit of a gap
  178. 6:06coming out. I think that's
  179. 6:08plenty actually. Or maybe just maybe can
  180. 6:11experiment it actually and try bringing
  181. 6:13this out even more.
  182. 6:14Maybe that's going to look much better.
  183. 6:17Just going to see how it looks like from
  184. 6:19a distance.
  185. 6:20And maybe maybe not. That doesn't look
  186. 6:23quite as nice. I'm just going to leave
  187. 6:24it as this. I think this is much better
  188. 6:27in regards to how it looks.
  189. 6:29Of course, this beam doesn't look quite
  190. 6:30as nice. So, I think I'm going to grab
  191. 6:32both of these. Going to bring them up.
  192. 6:34So, this one is going to look like it's
  193. 6:36all being overlaid on top of the other.
  194. 6:39Of course, we got to squish it down
  195. 6:40quite a bit those two beams.
  196. 6:43Or maybe we could stretch them out.
  197. 6:46But, I quite like the way that we have
  198. 6:48some of the seams visible in between
  199. 6:50those two beams.
  200. 6:52Maybe it's a little bit too much though.
  201. 6:54So, I'm going to delete one of them and
  202. 6:55just extend this entire one onto this
  203. 6:59end. And I think that's going to look
  204. 7:01much nicer.
  205. 7:03So, just grabbing it, making sure that
  206. 7:05we're sticking them through like so.
  207. 7:09And just a little bit more.
  208. 7:11Just like that.
  209. 7:13I think all in all this is going to look
  210. 7:14quite nice.
  211. 7:16So, by just tweaking the values just a
  212. 7:18little bit, we're going to get some nice
  213. 7:19results.
  214. 7:20I think this time we need to make sure
  215. 7:22that we have it
  216. 7:26a little bit to the other side. Or
  217. 7:27actually, I think I'm just going to flip
  218. 7:29this around because I see that this side
  219. 7:31of the mesh
  220. 7:33doesn't
  221. 7:34um have a good way to end it on the
  222. 7:37other end. As in the diagonal edge is
  223. 7:41slightly tilted. So, we're going to make
  224. 7:42sure that the tilt is going downwards. I
  225. 7:44think that's going to look much nicer.
  226. 7:46I'm just going to make sure I reposition
  227. 7:49this log though.
  228. 7:50We put it in the very center like so.
  229. 7:53And of course bring it down just like
  230. 7:55that.
  231. 7:56So, looking at it though looking at it
  232. 7:58though
  233. 7:59we might need to
  234. 8:02slightly make it a little bit wider.
  235. 8:05And
  236. 8:06maybe this will do.
  237. 8:08Let's go ahead and just simply
  238. 8:10because we raised it up a little bit in
  239. 8:11order to hide this end of the beam.
  240. 8:14We got to make sure we fit it in
  241. 8:16properly.
  242. 8:17Just going to extend it even more.
  243. 8:20Bring it upwards.
  244. 8:21Actually going to turn off the
  245. 8:23uh
  246. 8:24local gizmo and set it up to the world
  247. 8:26position.
  248. 8:28And now
  249. 8:31just a little bit more of a tweaking
  250. 8:33making sure it's small enough.
  251. 8:36But we're going to have this beam
  252. 8:38sticking through it, so I think that's
  253. 8:39going to look much nicer.
  254. 8:42Something like that.
  255. 8:45I think that's much much better.
  256. 8:48I think we just wanted to
  257. 8:50be going like this though.
  258. 8:53But that's going to leave a gap. So, in
  259. 8:55this case
  260. 8:57we can probably Yeah, we can probably
  261. 9:00just leave it as is and I think that's
  262. 9:01going to look quite nice.
  263. 9:03Like so.
  264. 9:05Or alternatively, we can actually just
  265. 9:07hide this entire end
  266. 9:09and see how it will look like.
  267. 9:11And
  268. 9:13maybe that's a bit nicer, but I don't
  269. 9:15like the flow the way it interacts with
  270. 9:17this. So, actually I'm going to keep
  271. 9:19this at the very top of this log. I
  272. 9:21think that's going to look nicer all in
  273. 9:23all.
  274. 9:25Now they just look a little bit too
  275. 9:26straight, but we're going to fix that up
  276. 9:29in the next lesson and we're going to
  277. 9:31actually do some deformation to get some
  278. 9:33nicer results out of this entire roof.
  279. 9:35So,
  280. 9:37yeah, thank you so much for watching and
  281. 9:39I'll see you in a bit.
