- 0:02impossible there are some moments and
- 0:05some men in the history of our country
- 0:08who have accomplished feat so
- 0:10extraordinary the mere mention of their
- 0:13names instantly reminds us of the
- 0:15uniquely American
- 0:17Spirit July 16th
- 0:211969 as Millions watch on television
- 0:24around the world three American
- 0:26astronauts aboard a small craft top
- 0:29eight Saturn 5 rocket blast off from
- 0:33Kennedy Space Center in Florida in an
- 0:35attempt to accomplish the impossible to
- 0:39set foot on the moon the audacious
- 0:42Mission known as Apollo 11 would have
- 0:45been Unthinkable prior to a speech
- 0:48delivered to Congress by President
- 0:50Kennedy 8 years
- 0:52earlier in that speech he envisioned
- 0:55land a man on the moon and returning him
- 0:58safely before the end of the decade we
- 1:01choose to go to the moon in this decade
- 1:04and do the other things not because they
- 1:06are easy but because they are hard tap
- 1:10to lead this impossible mission where
- 1:12astronauts Neil Armstrong Michael
- 1:15Collins and Buzz Aldren clear of Earth's
- 1:19atmosphere the men of Apollo 11 headed
- 1:22toward orbit of the moon on July 20th
- 1:26with Aldren and Armstrong aboard the
- 1:28lunar module nickname named The Eagle
- 1:31separated from the Command Module and
- 1:34began its descent toward the lunar
- 1:37surface absolute Precision in every step
- 1:40of the landing was
- 1:42imperative a single mistake could Doom
- 1:45the mission and potentially leave the
- 1:48men stranded at 4:17 p.m. eastern
- 1:52Daylight time and with only 25 seconds
- 1:56of fuel remaining the lunar module
- 1:59touchdown on the Sea of Tranquility on
- 2:03the surface of the
- 2:04Moon Armstrong radioing
- 2:08[Music]
- 2:12home Aldren capturing the semity of the
- 2:16moment radioed home I'd like to take
- 2:19this opportunity to ask every person
- 2:22listening in whoever wherever they may
- 2:26be to pause for a moment and contemplate
- 2:29the events of the past few hours and to
- 2:32give thanks in his or her own way as
- 2:37Millions watched Armstrong emerged from
- 2:40the lunar module in one of History's
- 2:42Legendary Moments shortly thereafter
- 2:45Aldren joined Armstrong on the surface
- 2:48of the Moon awed by its beauty and
- 2:51describing it as magnificent
- 2:55desolation the three men who had made
- 2:58President Kennedy's Vision a reality ity
- 3:00an impossible mission made possible
- 3:04through the Ingenuity determination and
- 3:07Audacity Of The Same Spirit that had
- 3:10been ingrained in Americans from
- 3:12generation to
- 3:14generation and though that same Spirit
- 3:17has been displayed countless times by
- 3:20countless
- 3:22Americans it has never been so evident
- 3:25as on that day in July
- 3:281969 when a group of now legendary
- 3:31Americans took to the skies and
- 3:35conquered the
- 3:38unknown
