  1. 0:00back in 2016 and this truck actually
  2. 0:02comes to market will be on the roads
  3. 0:04this year they're just pretty incredible
  4. 0:05so a lot of people don't know about us
  5. 0:07but we're years ahead of our competition
  6. 0:10we have over 14 billion dollars in
  7. 0:12orders were sold out for four years in
  8. 0:13production and our unveiling for the
  9. 0:17production truck happens next month
  10. 0:18essentially in about 40 days from now
  11. 0:20and people it happens at an event called
  12. 0:22Nikola world Nikola world is an event in
  13. 0:25Phoenix Arizona where we'll be unveiling
  14. 0:26the Nikola truck to the entire world and
  15. 0:29this van is it this event is incredible
  16. 0:31it's not just the Nikola a hydrogen
  17. 0:34electric truck but we also were
  18. 0:36unveiling our European hydrogen electric
  19. 0:38truck and also our us a pure electric
  20. 0:40battery electric vehicles as well we
  21. 0:43have we have four different product
  22. 0:44lineups that will be unveiled at this
  23. 0:45event and it's it's pretty cool cuz
  24. 0:48Niko's I would think is really the only
  25. 0:50company in the world that will give you
  26. 0:51a real straight opinion on what is best
  27. 0:54for your fleet we don't just build
  28. 0:56hydrogen we build hydrogen and electric
  29. 0:58so we don't really care our hydrogen our
  30. 1:01hydrogen
  31. 1:01truck can actually outperform a diesel
  32. 1:03in every category it's a lightest
  33. 1:04hydrogen production truck ever built
  34. 1:05it's the most powerful it's a it also
  35. 1:09competes with if you look at a diesel
  36. 1:11the main problem we've had so far as the
  37. 1:12is the weight in the performance the
  38. 1:14cold weather or other issues those are
  39. 1:16all now recently been been achieved so
  40. 1:20I'm going to just jump do I only have
  41. 1:22like four or five slides because I
  42. 1:23really want to just talk them through
  43. 1:24the things are actually most important
  44. 1:25to you guys but what do we do we we
  45. 1:27essentially build our company designs of
  46. 1:31hydrogen electric semi trucks electric
  47. 1:33semi trucks and what makes this very
  48. 1:35unique as we actually own the entire
  49. 1:36infrastructure of fueling we have over
  50. 1:38700 stations going up around the country
  51. 1:40each one of these stations produces up
  52. 1:42to 24,000 tons of hydrogen so just to
  53. 1:44give you an idea of one of those
  54. 1:45stations will be bigger than any station
  55. 1:47in the world the more building 700 of
  56. 1:48them these are going up all over the
  57. 1:50country we signed a 800 million dollar
  58. 1:52order with analyzer Busch those are
  59. 1:54going in 10 different locations around
  60. 1:56the country and we have 790 more
  61. 1:58stations going on
  62. 1:59continuously by 2028 so on average we
  63. 2:02have about right around about close to
  64. 2:05about a hundred stations and you're
  65. 2:06going on that would give America the
  66. 2:08entire coverage for hydrogen it's kind
  67. 2:11of like the chicken and the egg the
  68. 2:12biggest problem we've had with zero
  69. 2:13emission so far is that infrastructure
  70. 2:15fleets are willing to buy trucks but we
  71. 2:18realized if we weren't like Verizon
  72. 2:19where we didn't provide the phone and
  73. 2:21then end essentially the tower no one
  74. 2:23would ever buy the phone and it's insane
  75. 2:26he's OEM a lot of the OEMs don't have
  76. 2:29never thought about that shell or and
  77. 2:31other groups have dominate that dominate
  78. 2:34to a fueling Chevron and all these other
  79. 2:35groups they dominate that the feeling
  80. 2:37and the truck manufacturers just build
  81. 2:39trucks and you got to go find out where
  82. 2:40you're gonna fill them and we're gonna
  83. 2:41buy stuff from them so what Nikola did
  84. 2:43is we came in from the beginning and we
  85. 2:45said we're gonna solve all that problem
  86. 2:46we're going to give you the entire call
  87. 2:51it the ecosystem vertical integrated
  88. 2:53system all included with our truck so
  89. 2:55that includes your truck that glued your
  90. 2:57fuel includes your service your warranty
  91. 2:59or maintenance everything White Glove
  92. 3:00service you pay nothing other than to
  93. 3:03just drive the truck with your driver
  94. 3:04and what we've done now is we've
  95. 3:06consolidated all the problems into one
  96. 3:07very very similar like what Apple is
  97. 3:09done with the phone we always called the
  98. 3:11Nikola truck the apple of loud trucking
  99. 3:13why is that it's because Jobs has done a
  100. 3:15really good job at bringing everything
  101. 3:19into a smart phone when he came out with
  102. 3:21a camera two smart phone everyone
  103. 3:22laughed at him because they said all men
  104. 3:24no will ever put it no one will ever use
  105. 3:25her camera for a meal from I'm sorry the
  106. 3:28phone for a camera it's gonna require a
  107. 3:30massive massive camera to do that or
  108. 3:33people had their Franklin Covey planners
  109. 3:36no longer get rid of their planner and
  110. 3:38you look at all these things and
  111. 3:39essentially the the consolidation of the
  112. 3:41ecosystem is what allowed them to be
  113. 3:42successful we knew going into this would
  114. 3:45never be successful if we didn't own the
  115. 3:46entire ecosystem because we didn't have
  116. 3:47a hundred years of experience or 50
  117. 3:49years where we have station you know
  118. 3:51service networks everywhere customers
  119. 3:53all over the world we had to completely
  120. 3:55transform the market but why do we do
  121. 3:58that it wasn't just for us to win or
  122. 4:00succeed it was really to make the life
  123. 4:01of the fleet's a lot more simple so when
  124. 4:04you come in and you order anything above
  125. 4:0525 trucks we actually put the station in
  126. 4:07for you that 10 to 20 million dollar
  127. 4:08capex all on Nikola you don't worry
  128. 4:11about it you just pay for
  129. 4:12it's literally the it's the way to get
  130. 4:14over all the problems that happen with
  131. 4:16zero emission so what we built we build
  132. 4:19the truck we provide the hydrogen and
  133. 4:21maybe what a lot of people you don't
  134. 4:22know about us is we also have a power
  135. 4:24sport division this is kind of cool
  136. 4:26because it allows us to integrate our
  137. 4:27technology on these small vehicles test
  138. 4:29them and then put it back into the big
  139. 4:31truck I originally I'd love to go out
  140. 4:34the outdoors and so I I used to drive a
  141. 4:37player's my way know my belt broke a
  142. 4:40couple times I got really frustrated so
  143. 4:42I ended up calling my engineers and said
  144. 4:44let's build an electric one and I had no
  145. 4:46idea we take off like it is we'll end up
  146. 4:48with billions of dollars and cells on
  147. 4:50those already national parks are looking
  148. 4:51at banned emissions altogether in the
  149. 4:53parks and it's about game time you go
  150. 4:55hiking oh here is the way anyway you
  151. 4:57know everywhere and so it's nice because
  152. 4:59with with the nikla power sport division
  153. 5:01whether it's on water with our
  154. 5:02watercraft program coming out or it's on
  155. 5:05land with our UTV off-road program now
  156. 5:07you can drive this up in the nature and
  157. 5:09you're not you know you're not driving
  158. 5:11all the deer and the elk and anything
  159. 5:12else away from you you can actually go
  160. 5:13up and enjoy nature and they can enjoy
  161. 5:15you being part of it too so uh Nico is a
  162. 5:17very unique company very different than
  163. 5:19most people a lot of people that's how
  164. 5:22the world have you done what you've done
  165. 5:23in this because we've assembled the most
  166. 5:25world-class partnerships you could never
  167. 5:27dream up whether it's bashed web
  168. 5:29co-writer Merritt Cornell Fitzgerald
  169. 5:31Worthington ER or Pratt Miller all these
  170. 5:34different groups have major parts in
  171. 5:35helping us achieve what we've done today
  172. 5:37so far so we have not tried to do this
  173. 5:40on our own we've gone to people like
  174. 5:42mobco and we said look we need the most
  175. 5:43advanced independent suspension that's
  176. 5:45ever been built for a semi truck and
  177. 5:46WABCO said no one's ever built an
  178. 5:49independent suspension for an on-road
  179. 5:50semi truck and I said what do you have
  180. 5:52what have you ever done and they said
  181. 5:54well we have some military independent
  182. 5:55suspension I said I love it let's do it
  183. 5:57took us about four years and from the
  184. 6:01time we started till it'll going to be
  185. 6:02finalized into production and that
  186. 6:05suspension system is unique because it
  187. 6:07allows two motors to output with our
  188. 6:08pads output shafts to each will so what
  189. 6:11that means you go down the road now your
  190. 6:13wheels are taking the beating not
  191. 6:14transferring all the load into the frame
  192. 6:16so we've eliminated for the most part
  193. 6:19most all the load going
  194. 6:20to the frame so it also gives you full
  195. 6:23full traction control as well which is
  196. 6:25really nice with the normal axle you're
  197. 6:27gonna get limited slip with Nikolas axle
  198. 6:29you get full all-wheel drive all the
  199. 6:31time no matter what there's a lot of
  200. 6:34other things that go into that I could
  201. 6:35talk to you for hours about the
  202. 6:37independent suspension and why it's so
  203. 6:38awesome the reason why I know it's done
  204. 6:41is because of the cost it cost us $7,000
  205. 6:43a truck more to do independent
  206. 6:44suspension than a regular truck but
  207. 6:46ultimately I've taken all the money away
  208. 6:48from shell and Chevron and so I can
  209. 6:50afford to pay that seven thousand
  210. 6:51dollars on that on that feature to give
  211. 6:53it to you guys so what is that this is
  212. 6:56the Nikola - this will be this is it
  213. 6:58this was a rendering it actually looks
  214. 7:00like it's burnt it's very similar but it
  215. 7:02is it's it's gorgeous I just got back
  216. 7:04from from back east in a location where
  217. 7:07we were doing all the dyno testing
  218. 7:10assembly and and I couldn't believe it
  219. 7:12we showed you a couple people the final
  220. 7:14truck before the unveiling and it was it
  221. 7:16was a moment that I'll never forget for
  222. 7:18the rest of my life
  223. 7:19it is absolutely beautiful it's a 210
  224. 7:21wheelbase it has 80 kilograms of
  225. 7:24hydrogen on board it has over 200
  226. 7:27kilowatt hours of battery important why
  227. 7:29is that because we didn't build this
  228. 7:30truck to be an intercity truck we built
  229. 7:32it to be a true long-haul what we call
  230. 7:34diesel is dead truck what that means is
  231. 7:37that we built a truck that can
  232. 7:38outperform a diesel in every categories
  233. 7:40range wait lla climb at 6% grade and
  234. 7:44essentially 65 miles an hour under an
  235. 7:4680,000 pound load if you go to a partner
  236. 7:48if you go up the El Cajon Pass Diesel's
  237. 7:50will be doing 10 to 15 miles an hour
  238. 7:51will do 65 drivers right now are so
  239. 7:55regulated they're not allowed to there
  240. 7:57they're regulated on how many hours they
  241. 7:58drive which is kind of crazy I don't
  242. 8:01agree with it I think it ought to be
  243. 8:02based mainly on miles and some other
  244. 8:04things but that's okay ultimately the
  245. 8:07biggest problem for drivers ours are
  246. 8:08limited they can't they can't drive
  247. 8:10there are with them an incentive to be
  248. 8:12dangerous because if they're not getting
  249. 8:14as many miles as they can they don't get
  250. 8:16paid so what we've done is we've built
  251. 8:18the truck that allows them to go up the
  252. 8:19hill maintain that same speed they level
  253. 8:22off they maintain the same speed and
  254. 8:24that's the idea is to try to eliminate
  255. 8:25the limiting - downtime for the drivers
  256. 8:27and to give up the truck the ability to
  257. 8:31actually now compete a diesel so you can
  258. 8:33see I don't think
  259. 8:33it does have a laser okay five hundred
  260. 8:36to a thousand mile range so he built a
  261. 8:38truck that truly competes with the
  262. 8:40diesel a 20-minute refill time nickel
  263. 8:42has actually chaired and championed the
  264. 8:44the heavy duty it was just the press
  265. 8:46release just went out today actually
  266. 8:48Nikko has chaired and champion the
  267. 8:49heavy-duty fueling infrastructure I'm
  268. 8:52sorry in fueling protocols for around
  269. 8:53the world so this was a partnership that
  270. 8:55Nikola has created we we championed it
  271. 8:59we built it and then we brought six or
  272. 9:01eight another partners on board he was
  273. 9:02really cool you guys can look that up
  274. 9:04today essentially it's a whole bunch of
  275. 9:06other OEMs that have come on board and
  276. 9:08said we want to create a specific
  277. 9:09standard for heavy-duty refueling on
  278. 9:11hydrogen and we need to be able to fill
  279. 9:13trucks very fast and that does not exist
  280. 9:15right now we've done it on her truck so
  281. 9:18we're like well why create a protocol
  282. 9:20kind of like tested a we charge it where
  283. 9:21it's not compatible with others we
  284. 9:23wanted to creat one that was compatible
  285. 9:24with everybody and so we wanted to get
  286. 9:26ahead of that before it became a problem
  287. 9:28and so I don't think that Tesla saw that
  288. 9:31when they first started so I don't think
  289. 9:33it was a bad intending we just really
  290. 9:35wasn't plan and so we wanted to prevent
  291. 9:38that from happening again
  292. 9:39so that's essentially what the Nikola
  293. 9:41truck is you guys already know zero
  294. 9:43tailpipe emissions which is the most
  295. 9:44important because we produce all of our
  296. 9:47own hydrogen we actually make all of our
  297. 9:49own hydrogen out of our solar wind or
  298. 9:51hydro so our truck is really the only
  299. 9:53truck from well you know well that well
  300. 9:55the wheel that is truly zero emission
  301. 9:57from the beginning at the end we don't
  302. 9:59just build the trucks with zero emission
  303. 10:02as our factory we have the only off-grid
  304. 10:04headquarters that we know of completely
  305. 10:07off of hydrogen battery and solar we
  306. 10:09have 3.5 megawatts of solar up on the
  307. 10:11roof producing about 18 megawatts of
  308. 10:13energy a day around in quarters and
  309. 10:14we're storing 10,000 kilograms of
  310. 10:17hydrogen and using fuel cells as energy
  311. 10:19backup and batteries as as our as energy
  312. 10:22sources as well our company is truly one
  313. 10:24of the most innovative companies in the
  314. 10:26world we're doing that to our hydrogen
  315. 10:28stations also so what that means now is
  316. 10:30we use we use wind solar hydro to
  317. 10:32produce all of our hydrogen so therefore
  318. 10:34when you buy your truck you know not
  319. 10:35just the truck is your emission but the
  320. 10:37actual source of the fuel is as well and
  321. 10:39you're getting it for a fixed cost per
  322. 10:41vial
  323. 10:41usually right um it depends on the area
  324. 10:43of the country but use around a dollar a
  325. 10:45mile for a
  326. 10:45for an average and what does that mean
  327. 10:47that means now you can you just have a
  328. 10:49single class you don't worry about
  329. 10:50anything you just drive you pass a buck
  330. 10:52a mile include your truck your warranty
  331. 10:54your service and your fuel your zero
  332. 10:56emission hydrogen fuel that came from
  333. 10:58zero mission methods not from a coal
  334. 11:00plant down the road and that's the
  335. 11:02that's the advantage that we that we
  336. 11:04have with me cough this is the Nikola
  337. 11:05train this is this will be shown often
  338. 11:07april 16th as well in in phoenix arizona
  339. 11:10this will be launched in Europe about
  340. 11:12the exact same time people said this
  341. 11:14could never be done the difference
  342. 11:16between our truck and everything else is
  343. 11:17that we built this truck from the ground
  344. 11:19up specifically around hydrogen
  345. 11:20everything about it was hydrogen would
  346. 11:22we design it the frame the chassis the
  347. 11:25body and light everything about it
  348. 11:27the axles it allowed us to store about
  349. 11:2930 to 40 more kilograms of hydrogen than
  350. 11:31anyone else in the world and that is
  351. 11:33important thing in order to make sure
  352. 11:34you guys that don't have you know
  353. 11:35downtime the Nikola tre which is the
  354. 11:39European version is the same thing this
  355. 11:41has about 60 kilograms of hydrogen and
  356. 11:44currently in Europe they're only seen
  357. 11:46about 30 kilograms so we're able to
  358. 11:48almost double the hydro capacity on
  359. 11:49board because we designed the trucks
  360. 11:51specifically for hydrogen so you guys
  361. 11:55already understand that the advantages
  362. 11:57but the one thing I really liked about
  363. 11:58it is ones you control where the where
  364. 12:00the energy comes from so you know what's
  365. 12:01clean second one is 15 to 20 go to leave
  366. 12:04those on 80 kilograms now you're talking
  367. 12:06about what is the diesel as well so as I
  368. 12:11talk to you about the zero emission from
  369. 12:13beginning to end everything about it is
  370. 12:15an eco control so we can control the
  371. 12:17supply chain the network may have over
  372. 12:20700 stations we are not doing a charging
  373. 12:22network and eco doesn't do a charging
  374. 12:24network for buv but we are offering
  375. 12:25maybe the solution for those that want
  376. 12:28our trucks come in 500 kilowatt hours
  377. 12:30750 kilowatt hour and 1 megawatt hour of
  378. 12:33energy options that's a day cab with a
  379. 12:35210 wheelbase it's the actual chassis
  380. 12:40design for it's the same thing with our
  381. 12:42height our with our hydrogen alone it's
  382. 12:432,000 horsepower and it's it's three
  383. 12:47round two to three thousand foot-pounds
  384. 12:48of torque before reduction the problem
  385. 12:51that is is too much so what we've done
  386. 12:53is we've toned it down
  387. 12:54most fleets in America will need
  388. 12:56somewhere around five to six hundred or
  389. 12:58Scour
  390. 12:59but the chassis itself is actually built
  391. 13:01for that so what that means is that
  392. 13:02we'll tone a lot of the we build these
  393. 13:04electronics we build the motors we build
  394. 13:06everything for this for this high rate
  395. 13:07and then we tone it all the way down and
  396. 13:09what that does is it doubles or triples
  397. 13:11the lifespan of those parts because if
  398. 13:13they're I don't know how many of you
  399. 13:14guys fly I love to fly him a pilot as
  400. 13:16well and I have a TV of 930 flies about
  401. 13:19400 miles an hour and this plane is
  402. 13:21incredible because it's built by Pratt
  403. 13:22and Whitney and Pratt & Whitney who
  404. 13:24didn't need this engines built in 1800
  405. 13:26horsepower but it only has a continuous
  406. 13:28of 800 so you'll only top off at a 850
  407. 13:31around there what does that mean it
  408. 13:33means that that engine has never had a
  409. 13:34failure in its history that's ever
  410. 13:36caused a casualty why is that because
  411. 13:38it's only running at you know less than
  412. 13:3940 percent of it's right around about 50
  413. 13:43percent of its uh of his total output so
  414. 13:45that's what eco struck has done as well
  415. 13:47as we decided we wanted to build it and
  416. 13:48that could a truck a components that
  417. 13:50would not break we knew it would cost us
  418. 13:53more to do that it cost us about another
  419. 13:55ten thousand dollars per truck to make
  420. 13:56sure our components are built for the
  421. 13:58full lifecycle and the full power output
  422. 14:02most OEMs never would do that because
  423. 14:04they're all about the cost driving every
  424. 14:06penny out but for us it's about making
  425. 14:08sure our trucks just don't break and
  426. 14:09what they don't break and you can spend
  427. 14:11more time driving it's like an Apple
  428. 14:13computer I buy an Apple computer I know
  429. 14:15I'm spending a thousand dollars more
  430. 14:16than a PC but the thing just works and
  431. 14:18it works good and I'm happy with it I
  432. 14:20have a PC I just prefer I just don't
  433. 14:23like to use it and so that's what we
  434. 14:24want people to see we want people to
  435. 14:25look at nikla and say I have an equal it
  436. 14:28costs a little bit more sometimes but
  437. 14:30all the benefits of it are so much
  438. 14:32better I just don't want to touch the
  439. 14:33other thing and that's ultimately what
  440. 14:35we've done so if you look at Nikko what
  441. 14:38we've done is a we'll be straight up and
  442. 14:40honest with you we don't really care you
  443. 14:42can you can order an electric one you
  444. 14:43can order a hydrogen one we have no cat
  445. 14:45in the fight as they say you know we
  446. 14:46will just shoot you straight hydrogen
  447. 14:49cannot be when you're control the
  448. 14:50hydrogen cost like we do it's impossible
  449. 14:52to be hydrogen over the road class 8
  450. 14:54trucks bv doesn't even come close when
  451. 14:57it comes to over the road long haul when
  452. 14:59it comes to inner-city electric is a
  453. 15:00very good option when you're talking
  454. 15:02under I try to tell people if you're
  455. 15:04running under 300 miles electrics a
  456. 15:06great option you get over that 300 miles
  457. 15:08and it becomes a Hugh
  458. 15:09competitor and also truck up times a big
  459. 15:12deal if you need a vehicle that past
  460. 15:14have up time 20 hours a day or if you
  461. 15:16you know if you have to two shifts
  462. 15:17running sometimes even more hydrogen is
  463. 15:21a solution battery is it's a little bit
  464. 15:24more difficult because of the charge
  465. 15:25times if you start to pull a megawatt of
  466. 15:27energy out of the grid you're gonna get
  467. 15:29nailed with some high prices with
  468. 15:31hydrogen you can produce I'd vision over
  469. 15:3324 hours a day in a base load we
  470. 15:35contract that base load with our own
  471. 15:36solar farms that we put in Nikola has
  472. 15:38its own solar division we put those
  473. 15:40solar farms in those go in some
  474. 15:42somewhere either in Arizona in
  475. 15:44California in in Nevada wherever it may
  476. 15:47be and we pull the energy out of the
  477. 15:49grid you know we direct transmit it
  478. 15:51right in and then we also sell all the
  479. 15:53excess clean energy to those that need
  480. 15:55it so unique was a very unique company
  481. 15:58because it's not just a manufacturer
  482. 16:00these trucks are actually done you'll
  483. 16:02see it driving at an equal world in less
  484. 16:04than a month and a half so it's not a
  485. 16:05it's not a pipe dream it's actually the
  486. 16:08first truck going into production where
  487. 16:10they're on the road later this year with
  488. 16:12fleets we have 25 going out on the road
  489. 16:15next year and a hundred the year after
  490. 16:17and then we start production in for
  491. 16:18heavy into 2022
  492. 16:20so we're only a couple years away and
  493. 16:22that's pretty cool because everyone
  494. 16:24talks about it the no one's actually
  495. 16:25doing it and we've done it so it's kind
  496. 16:28of neat to be able to see that I would I
  497. 16:30would just one last thing I would say is
  498. 16:32I I grew up driving locomotives because
  499. 16:35what is this word all came from my dad
  500. 16:36manages the railroad for Union Pacific
  501. 16:39on the west coast and in Vegas he would
  502. 16:42send me out on locomotives and when I
  503. 16:44was a kid I said you know the the
  504. 16:45conductor looked over and he said one
  505. 16:47day they'll be smart enough to build a
  506. 16:48locomotive semi-truck I was six years
  507. 16:50old I remember the day and that was what
  508. 16:52caused me to want to build the niccola
  509. 16:54and the the essentially the locomotive
  510. 16:59semi truck was the philosophy of it
  511. 17:01we're just lucky enough nowadays then
  512. 17:03there's many people like Toyota actually
  513. 17:06that have gone out and figured out a lot
  514. 17:08of problems that existed in fuel cells
  515. 17:10and without them teaching the world
  516. 17:13about it it would be impossible to have
  517. 17:15the technology that we have now and so
  518. 17:18we're real lucky we did design our own
  519. 17:19system from the ground up it's one of
  520. 17:21the largest in the world
  521. 17:22240 kilowatt fuel cells massive but it's
  522. 17:26a lot of it does come from actually a
  523. 17:28Toyota has taught a lot of people on how
  524. 17:30to a cold start hot start a fuel cell
  525. 17:31that took about six to eight years to
  526. 17:33figure out a lot of money so by sharing
  527. 17:35that you know that intellectual property
  528. 17:37around the world teaching people and
  529. 17:38trying to promote hydrogen it's allowed
  530. 17:40the rest of the world to actually do
  531. 17:41that so my goal is over time as we
  532. 17:44become a solidified company is to
  533. 17:45actually start to retrain the world
  534. 17:47around the IP that we know so that
  535. 17:50future entrepreneurs can build around
  536. 17:51the IP that we know and can come up and
  537. 17:54exist just like we did thanks guys
  538. 17:56appreciate it
