- 0:00I completely spaced that exit. I mean, I

- 0:42quickly go from Seattle down to Medford,
- 0:44Oregon, and then we're going to cut over
- 0:45to Reno, Nevada, stay at a massive
- 0:49casino, do some video game hunting, and
- 0:51explore that city a bit. After that, we
- 0:54head to the Sacramento, California area
- 0:56to visit a brand new retro gaming expo
- 0:59as well as take in some of the local
- 1:01sites. After that, we're going to
- 1:04meander over to the Pacific coast and
- 1:06we're going to weave our way along
- 1:09such beautiful coastline. We're going to
- 1:11pop into Kuz Bay and end the trip in
- 1:14Portland, Oregon. This series of videos
- 1:17is going to have a little bit of
- 1:18everything. We're going to do some
- 1:19sightseeing. We're going to be hunting
- 1:21for video games and music. And there's
- 1:23lots of adventure on that open road. You
- 1:27guys are going to love this. So, let's
- 1:28take a look.
- 1:30[Music]
- 1:45[Music]
- 1:47I don't know about you guys, but I love
- 1:49a good road trip. Getting in the car on
- 1:51the open road and just seeing what
- 1:55happens. And on this trip with me, I've
- 1:58got my wife Rebecca, who is sitting in
- 2:00the co-pilot seat there, running the
- 2:02camera most of the time out the window.
- 2:04And then I've also got my buddy Scott.
- 2:07Tell us how you met Battle Jesus.
- 2:11Well, uh, I used to work at a Volkswagen
- 2:13dealer and sold him the sweet GTI he's
- 2:16driving. Now I'm at a Porsche dealer in
- 2:19Seattle. Um, yeah. Yeah. Big car guy. So
- 2:25is he. So we kind of hit it off and on
- 2:28the music and video games and all that.
- 2:30Um,
- 2:31yeah. You guys share quite a few things
- 2:32in common. Yeah. Yeah. Scott also likes
- 2:35a lot of cool What are some of the cool
- 2:38concerts you've been to that you think
- 2:40are your highlights?
- 2:42Lots of alternative rock uh electronic.
- 2:45Uh took took metal Jesus to uh the Kiss
- 2:50show. It's one of his
- 2:52Yeah. What' you think of that?
- 2:53It was sweet. It was at the Climate
- 2:55Planet in Seattle. Um they always put on
- 2:58a show. It was sweet. It was my first
- 3:01and only time seeing it, but glad we
- 3:03did. Awesome.
- 3:05You may have seen Scott before on my
- 3:07channel. He's been in a couple videos
- 3:10and he's the one who sold me my car just
- 3:13a couple years ago and he showed up for
- 3:15this road trip in a pretty sweet car
- 3:18himself.
- 3:19Why did you decide to trust Metal Jesus
- 3:22and come on this road trip with us?
- 3:25Why wouldn't I? Um, yeah. I'm My
- 3:29brother's down there, so I can do two
- 3:31things. you know, we're going to meet up
- 3:33with him down there. He's in Oakland, so
- 3:36that'll be fun, too. He's going to meet
- 3:37up with us when we get there.
- 3:39Yeah.
- 3:39And I've never been on a road trip from,
- 3:42you know, Washington all the way to
- 3:43California. I've been wanting to make
- 3:45this drive for a while. We're going to
- 3:47hit the Oregon coast on the way back and
- 3:49I've been meaning to do that for a
- 3:51while. Just got this new car as well.
- 3:54So,
- 3:55yeah, it's a great car.
- 3:57Looking forward to hear that.
- 3:59Testing it out. Yeah,
- 4:01some fun on your roads on the coast.
- 4:03So, what is what what is the make a
- 4:05model of this car?
- 4:07Uh, it's a BMW M3.
- 4:10The best part about it is manual.
- 4:12Yeah, it's still manual.
- 4:14I know. That's pretty awesome.
- 4:17Yeah, I made when I sold Jason his car,
- 4:19I made sure uh it was going to be a
- 4:22manual.
- 4:23Yeah. Yeah, exactly. Manuals are a lot
- 4:25of more fun to drive. For sure.
- 4:26Now, they don't even make a manual in
- 4:28that car he has now. up.
- 4:29I know.
- 4:30Glad I got to.
- 4:31Yeah, for sure.
- 4:33And on this trip, we're going to a bunch
- 4:35of places that I have not been to
- 4:37before. And we're going to start this
- 4:39trip in Medford, Oregon. That's a good
- 4:42location for us because you can easily
- 4:45kind of get down to Reno, Nevada. That's
- 4:48our goal for the first leg of this trip.
- 4:50And that's about a 5hour drive from
- 4:53Medford to Reno. And uh you're going
- 4:56across all these winding mountain roads.
- 4:59It gets beautiful. You're kind of
- 5:00changing the scenery a little bit. And
- 5:03speaking of mountains, check out Mount
- 5:06Shasta. Wow, this was so cool driving
- 5:10down the road and seeing this off in the
- 5:12distance and just getting closer and
- 5:14closer for about 30 minutes. This was
- 5:16our view and it was absolutely amazing.
- 5:20And I think I remember visiting Mount
- 5:23Shasta as a kid. I mean, really young. I
- 5:26think with my aunt and uncle back in the
- 5:28day, we went to Mount Shasta. So, I
- 5:30haven't seen it in decades, literally.
- 5:32And uh yeah, it did not disappoint. And
- 5:35these roads are a great time to test out
- 5:37our cars on these open roads. You know,
- 5:39again, I live in the city and so often I
- 5:42don't really get to just kind of drive
- 5:44for hours at a time. And this was such a
- 5:47such an amazing little start to our
- 5:50trip. Although, it's kind of funny
- 5:51because for a while I was actually alone
- 5:54in my car while Rebecca was in Scots and
- 5:58I spaced it. I was looking out the
- 5:59window so much I completely missed an
- 6:02exit and just blew right past it. And uh
- 6:05they had to message me and say, "Hey,
- 6:07dude. Uh where where you going?"
- 6:12Yeah, it's kind of a problem of mine.
- 6:14And it's like I'll just I'll just drive
- 6:16and drive and, you know, not even pay
- 6:17attention. So, I'm not the most
- 6:19observant driver. I definitely do need a
- 6:21co-pilot sometimes.
- 6:23I completely space that exit. I mean, I
- 6:26was in my own mind, own Yeah, it's flew.
- 6:29I would I'd be in Mexico by now.
- 6:32Despite that little setback, we did
- 6:34eventually roll into Reno. And it's
- 6:36interesting because I've been to Las
- 6:37Vegas quite a bit actually, but never to
- 6:39Reno. So, I didn't know exactly what to
- 6:42expect. I'd heard that Reno is kind of a
- 6:44more mellow version of Las Vegas, which
- 6:47I'm totally cool with. Pulling in here
- 6:50and checking out our hotel. We're
- 6:51staying at the Grand Sierra Resort and
- 6:53Casino, which is a little bit outside of
- 6:56downtown, so it kind of stands on its
- 6:58own, but it is massive. And the view
- 7:01outside of our hotel, you can kind of
- 7:04see downtown Reno right there. So, we're
- 7:07we're definitely a good distance away.
- 7:09Now, the interesting thing about this uh
- 7:11this resort and casino is that they
- 7:13really designed it for you to stay there
- 7:15cuz you can gamble and all this sort of
- 7:17stuff, but what I was mostly interested
- 7:19in is that there's there's a couple
- 7:21floors where they have stores. It's
- 7:23almost like a mall, but they also have a
- 7:25bunch of arcades and they've got a
- 7:28bowling alley.
- 7:29I've heard that you are an expert
- 7:30bowler.
- 7:33You hate to brag. We'll see. Yeah,
- 7:35he's been a little bit of this. So, all
- 7:37right. Sick.
- 7:39It has been quite a few years since I've
- 7:41gone bowling and I'm not really that
- 7:43great at it, but honestly, I don't care.
- 7:45It's just all for fun, right? Yeah. So,
- 7:47this is cool. We played a couple rounds
- 7:49of bowling and it's funny cuz Scott was
- 7:52definitely better than all of us.
- 7:54Actually, he uh he he he bowled pretty
- 7:57well in the beginning there. He took an
- 7:59early lead and then Rebecca had a bunch
- 8:02of good, you know, strikes as well. So,
- 8:06I was still trying to gain my rhythm a
- 8:08little bit. It's funny cuz Scott was
- 8:11suddenly kind of snacky and hungry and
- 8:13we couldn't find him at first. And so,
- 8:15we're kind of like looking over there,
- 8:16you know, trying to figure out where he
- 8:18is. Oh, he's over by the food stall.
- 8:22Scott is getting food and he doesn't
- 8:24know it's his turn.
- 8:26It's his turn right there.
- 8:27So, I'm going to I'm going to I'm going
- 8:28to play for him.
- 8:41Oh, honey.
- 8:43[Music]
- 8:48Jason played for you.
- 9:00Doing great, Scott. Doing great.
- 9:10Yeah, dude.
- 9:11Nothing.
- 9:12Yeah,
- 9:14man. That sucks, dude. That hurts, huh?
- 9:16Oh, I'm up. Cool.
- 9:19Go for me.
- 9:21What?
- 9:22You lose it all, dude.
- 9:23What?
- 9:25Maybe you want to go for me?
- 9:28I think he should. I think he should.
- 9:38He's not better.
- 9:41That was awesome.
- 9:42Yeah, once he caught on, I decided to
- 9:45try to make it fair and use a kitty
- 9:47slide,
- 9:49but in the end, it didn't help. He still
- 9:51kicked our butt. So, that was that was a
- 9:53definitely a fun night. The next day, I
- 9:55wanted to get out into the city and do
- 9:57some video game and music hunting. And
- 10:00the first recommendation I got from
- 10:01people was to check out Captain Games.
- 10:04Guys, we're in Reno. Well, actually,
- 10:06it's technically Sparks. Not entirely
- 10:08sure how the all that works, but I've
- 10:10been told to come check out Captain
- 10:12Games. And uh it looks like it's pretty
- 10:15big. As you can see here, this is a
- 10:17pretty big store with a lot of
- 10:19selection. I mean, they pretty much just
- 10:21have everything you would probably be
- 10:22looking for. You know, obviously a lot
- 10:24of the really popular stuff like
- 10:26PlayStation 4, PS5, Xbox, Switch, all
- 10:29that stuff. One of the highlights here
- 10:31is that they have a PlayStation 2 and a
- 10:34PSP development kit. That is not
- 10:37something you see every day. I love
- 10:39seeing these things right here, even
- 10:40though they're really not that
- 10:42practical, right, anymore, because I
- 10:44don't think you can actually buy one of
- 10:45these and develop games with it
- 10:47necessarily, but it is a cool piece of
- 10:48history. Also, this employee who does
- 10:51the repairs at the shop showed me this.
- 10:53He called it his ultimate GameCube and
- 10:56all these different modifications that
- 10:58he did for it, including an SD mod. So,
- 11:01you can put actually ROMs on this, but
- 11:03yet it doesn't remove the optical drive.
- 11:06So, you can still use original media
- 11:08here, or you can use this SD mod. He
- 11:12also installed a custom battery pack as
- 11:15well as an HDMI modded attached screen
- 11:18on the top there. It also has a wireless
- 11:22controller. Uh, you know, plus he's got
- 11:25the Game Boy player on there. I mean,
- 11:27this was pretty impressive when he calls
- 11:29this the ultimate GameCube. Yeah, I
- 11:32agree with him. In addition to the video
- 11:34games, it also had a couple pinball
- 11:36machines. And this Kiss pinball machine
- 11:39was calling my name.
- 11:41I would love to put one of these in my
- 11:43game room. I just don't have the room
- 11:45for it. Plus, they're kind of expensive.
- 11:47So, when I do see these out and about, I
- 11:50will always play them. And uh yeah, I'm
- 11:53not great at pinball, but I don't care.
- 11:55I still have fun doing it. And overall,
- 11:57this is a pretty cool store. I can see
- 11:59why people come here. The owner and the
- 12:02employees were super nice in here. Uh
- 12:05the owner specifically was kind of
- 12:07talking my ear off. He was so passionate
- 12:10about video games and and collecting and
- 12:13also the local community. So that was
- 12:15really fun talking to him.
- 12:17[Music]
- 12:24[Applause]
- 12:24[Music]
- 12:28However, this is not the only game store
- 12:31in the area. We are in Carson City,
- 12:33which is about 30 minutes from Reno. And
- 12:36I've been told that this place is pretty
- 12:38cool. We're at Retro Replay Games. So,
- 12:40let's take a look. And so, we drove out
- 12:43there and yeah, I can see why. So, yes,
- 12:47this is definitely a smaller store than,
- 12:50you know, Captain Games, but I got to
- 12:52tell you, immediately I could tell this
- 12:54was really well stocked and really well
- 12:57organized. Everywhere I looked, I saw
- 13:00something really cool. And I was able to
- 13:02find a couple games I was really excited
- 13:04for. I'm actually going to share all of
- 13:05that with you at the end of this video,
- 13:08so you're definitely going to want to
- 13:09stay tuned till the end of it. But
- 13:11overall, I was very impressed with Retro
- 13:13Replay. Yes, it's a smaller store, but I
- 13:16actually think that the the the quality
- 13:18of games that they have in there is
- 13:21really high. This is Yeah, this was a
- 13:23highly recommended store, and if you
- 13:25live in the area, you're definitely
- 13:26going to want to check it out.
- 13:28[Music]
- 13:36The next thing that we wanted to do
- 13:37while in this area is drive about an
- 13:40hour south and check out Lake Tahoe. You
- 13:43know, that's one of those lakes that you
- 13:45hear all the time about, right? But I
- 13:47don't know anything about it. And so,
- 13:49while I'm in the area, Rebecca and I
- 13:51were like, "Yeah, let's let's take the
- 13:53drive down to Lake Tahoe." And, you
- 13:55know, because we've heard just how
- 13:56beautiful and massive this lake is. And
- 14:00wow, it did not disappoint. Now, I've
- 14:04heard that a lot of people use Lake
- 14:06Tahoe as their annual family vacation.
- 14:09And I can totally see why you would want
- 14:11to do that cuz pretty much everywhere we
- 14:13looked, it was absolutely gorgeous. Now,
- 14:16we explored around King's Beach, which
- 14:20has this really small town vibe to it. I
- 14:23was totally digging it. It's got this
- 14:25two-lane road through the center of
- 14:27town. It doesn't feel very
- 14:30It's not overly crowded. There is
- 14:32definitely people there because it's
- 14:34obviously summer, but I was digging
- 14:36again the small town vibe of it. To me,
- 14:38it really reminded me of Lake Chalan in
- 14:41Eastern Washington. So, if you're from,
- 14:43you know, the Pacific Northwest, maybe
- 14:45you know where that is. Small town,
- 14:48beautiful lake, gorgeous scenery, and I
- 14:51was getting all that from Lake Tahoe.
- 14:54[Music]
- 15:05Going back into Reno, we wanted to check
- 15:07out downtown a little bit and see that
- 15:10famous Reno sign. Now, when we
- 15:13originally there, it was the afternoon
- 15:16and it was definitely very mellow. I was
- 15:19kind of surprised cuz again, I'm I'm
- 15:20used to Vegas, right? the the crazy
- 15:24oh just energy of Vegas and I wasn't
- 15:26getting that initially in Reno until
- 15:30the night came along and you know when
- 15:32it got nighttime and that Reno sign was
- 15:35lit up you could tell okay everyone kind
- 15:37of came out and that sort of part of
- 15:40town really came alive and so we
- 15:43explored down there a little bit and
- 15:44that was very cool but when we got back
- 15:46to the casino we hit up the arcades
- 15:49again and uh Scott and I We're playing
- 15:51some Cruise and Blast, the arcade
- 15:53version. He had never played that
- 15:55before. Uh I was telling him, "Oh man,
- 15:57it's on Switch and it's so awesome." And
- 15:59to uh to play the arcade version is
- 16:01really fun. And then we also did a
- 16:03couple of the shooting games as well.
- 16:06The other recommendation I got from a
- 16:08lot of people is to check out the Reno
- 16:10Public Market. Specifically, there's a
- 16:13store in there, or I guess maybe it's a
- 16:16group of stores called Junkie. And
- 16:18specifically, it's a clothing and
- 16:20exchange as well as an antique area. And
- 16:24when we went in there, I saw very
- 16:26quickly why people recommended this.
- 16:27There is tons of funky cool collectibles
- 16:32in here. I very quickly found these
- 16:35heavy metal comic books. Never seen
- 16:38these before. And some of my favorite
- 16:40bands like Opth and Judas Priest and
- 16:43Iron Maiden. So, this was a pretty cool
- 16:45find. And this was a cool place to
- 16:47explore, you know, because it goes way
- 16:49beyond just video games and music.
- 16:51There's entire sections dedicated to pop
- 16:54culture, collectibles, action figures,
- 16:58lunchboxes, clothing, and just a ton
- 17:01more. It really reminds me of the
- 17:03antique malls that we have in the
- 17:05Seattle area. I've did several videos on
- 17:08them on my channel. And basically, this
- 17:10is a place where just multiple small
- 17:12vendors, you and me or anybody really
- 17:14can just bring their stuff to sell in
- 17:16one place. And so, you never know what
- 17:18you're going to expect. The inventory is
- 17:21always changing. And so, if you have one
- 17:23of these in your area, you definitely
- 17:25want to check it out cuz you can get
- 17:27some good deals there and you never know
- 17:29what you're going to find. Which brings
- 17:30me to the games that I picked up on this
- 17:32particular part of the trip. And I'm
- 17:34going to start with Groove Rider Slot
- 17:37Car Thunder for the Gamecube. This is
- 17:40not an expensive game, but it's one that
- 17:42I don't typically see, and so I wanted
- 17:44to pick it up because it's fairly unique
- 17:46in that it is a racing game with slot
- 17:49cars. And so that's a little bit
- 17:52different than almost every other racing
- 17:54game you will play because again, your
- 17:56car is in a slot. And that makes it kind
- 18:00of interesting. It also reminds me of my
- 18:01childhood cuz my dad used to actually
- 18:03collect and race slot cars in real life.
- 18:07So, I picked this up as well as the
- 18:09professional edition of Hitman
- 18:12Absolution.
- 18:14And depending on your point of view, you
- 18:16either like this game or you hated this
- 18:18game. And it's my experience that most
- 18:21of the hardcore Hitman fans didn't like
- 18:24it. I'm sorry. I actually really enjoyed
- 18:28this game. I love how they did something
- 18:30a little bit different here where they
- 18:32kind of mixed it in Quinton Tarantino
- 18:36Grindhouse style visuals and
- 18:38storytelling. I just thought it was
- 18:40really cool and uh love that game. I
- 18:43have the normal version of it, but I
- 18:45didn't have this particular one where
- 18:47it's got the extra Blu-ray of bonus
- 18:49content as well as the the art book and
- 18:52some other digital things that you can
- 18:53get as well. So, I had to pick that one
- 18:56up. So, what's next on the agenda? Well,
- 18:59after this, we are going to head down to
- 19:01Sacramento, California area for the Fire
- 19:04and Ice Retro Gaming Expo. I'm going to
- 19:08show you two days of that gaming expo.
- 19:10And I have to be honest with you, I got
- 19:12a ton of really cool stuff there. Stuff
- 19:15you've probably never seen before. As
- 19:18well as we're going to visit a store
- 19:20called The Cave, which frankly blew our
- 19:23minds. Scott's going to go to a baseball
- 19:25game and we're going to do some
- 19:27sightseeing around the area. And so
- 19:29that's going to come up in the next
- 19:30video. And then after that, we're going
- 19:32to head over to the Oregon coast. And
- 19:34man, you're not going to want to miss
- 19:36those views. It's going to be glorious.
- 19:38And so guys, that's the first part of my
- 19:40road trip video. So stay tuned, be
- 19:43subscribed because part two is coming
- 19:45next week. Thanks so much for watching.
