  1. 0:04good evening uh thank you guys for
  2. 0:06coming I know our first official press
  3. 0:08briefing is going to be on Monday but I
  4. 0:09wanted to give you a few updates on the
  5. 0:11president's activities uh but before I
  6. 0:13get to the news of the day I think I'd
  7. 0:15like to discuss a little bit of the
  8. 0:16coverage of the past 24 hours yesterday
  9. 0:19at a time when our nation and the world
  10. 0:21was watching the peaceful transition of
  11. 0:23power and as the president said the
  12. 0:25transition in the balance of power from
  13. 0:27Washington to the citizens of the United
  14. 0:29States memb some members of the media
  15. 0:31were engaged in deliberately false
  16. 0:33reporting for all the talk about the
  17. 0:35proper use of Twitter two instances
  18. 0:38yesterday stand out one was a
  19. 0:41particularly egregious example in which
  20. 0:42a reporter falsely tweeted out that the
  21. 0:45bust of Martin Luther King Jr had been
  22. 0:48removed from the Oval Office after it
  23. 0:50was pointed out that this was just plain
  24. 0:52wrong the reporter casually reported and
  25. 0:56tweeted out and tried to claim that a
  26. 0:57secret service must agent must have just
  27. 0:59been standing in front of it this was
  28. 1:02irresponsible and
  29. 1:04Reckless secondly photographs of the
  30. 1:06inaugural proceedings were intentionally
  31. 1:08framed in a way in one particular tweet
  32. 1:11to minimize the enormous support that
  33. 1:13had gathered on the National Mall this
  34. 1:15was the first time in our nation's
  35. 1:17history that floor coverings have been
  36. 1:19used to protect the grass in the mall
  37. 1:21that had the effect of highlighting any
  38. 1:23areas where people were not standing
  39. 1:25while in years past the grass eliminated
  40. 1:27this visual this was also the first time
  41. 1:30that fencing and magnetometers went as
  42. 1:32far back on the wall preventing hundreds
  43. 1:34of thousands of people from being able
  44. 1:36to access the mall as quickly as they
  45. 1:38had in inauguration past inaccurate
  46. 1:41numbers involving crowd size were also
  47. 1:43tweeted no one had numbers because the
  48. 1:47National Park Service which controls the
  49. 1:49National Mall does not put any out by
  50. 1:52the way this applies to any attempts to
  51. 1:54try to count the number of protesters
  52. 1:56today in the same fashion we do know a
  53. 1:58few things so let's go through the facts
  54. 2:00we know that from the platform where the
  55. 2:02president was sworn in to Fourth Street
  56. 2:04holds about 250,000 people from Fourth
  57. 2:07Street to the media tent is about
  58. 2:09another
  59. 2:10220,000 and from the media tent to the
  60. 2:12Washington Monument another another
  61. 2:14250,000
  62. 2:16people all of this space was called when
  63. 2:18the president took the oath of office we
  64. 2:21know that 420,000 people used the DC
  65. 2:24Metro Public Transit yesterday which
  66. 2:26actually compares to 317,000 that used
  67. 2:30for President Obama's last Inaugural
  68. 2:32this was the largest audience to ever
  69. 2:34witness an inauguration period both in
  70. 2:37person and around the globe even the New
  71. 2:40York Times printed a photo a photograph
  72. 2:42showing the that a a misrepresentation
  73. 2:45of the crowd in the original tweet in
  74. 2:47their paper which showed the full extent
  75. 2:50of the support depth and crowd and
  76. 2:52intensity that existed these attempts to
  77. 2:54lessen the enthusiasm of the
  78. 2:56inauguration are shameful and wrong the
  79. 2:59president president was also at the Cal
  80. 3:01as you know the president was at the
  81. 3:02Central Intelligence Agency today and
  82. 3:04greeted by a rockus overflow crowd of
  83. 3:06some 400 plus CIA employees there were
  84. 3:09over a thousand requests to attend
  85. 3:12prompting the president to note that
  86. 3:13he'll have to come back to greet the
  87. 3:15rest the employees were ecstatic that
  88. 3:17he's the new commander-in-chief and he
  89. 3:19delivered them an powerful and important
  90. 3:22message he told them he has their back
  91. 3:25and they were grateful for that they
  92. 3:27gave him a five minute standing ovation
  93. 3:29at the end in a display of their
  94. 3:31patriotism and their enthusiasm for his
  95. 3:34presidency I'd also note that it's a
  96. 3:36shame that the CIA didn't have a CIA
  97. 3:38director to be with him today when he
  98. 3:41visited because the Democrats have
  99. 3:43chosen Senate Democrats are stalling the
  100. 3:45nomination of Mike Pompeo and playing
  101. 3:48politics with National Security that's
  102. 3:50what you guys should be writing and
  103. 3:51covering that this instead of sewing
  104. 3:54division about tweets and and false
  105. 3:57narratives the president is committed to
  106. 3:59unifying our country and that was the
  107. 4:01focus of his inaugural address this kind
  108. 4:04of dishonesty in the media the
  109. 4:05challenging that bringing about our
  110. 4:07nation together is making it more
  111. 4:08difficult there's been a lot of talk in
  112. 4:10the media about the responsibility to
  113. 4:12hold Donald Trump accountable and I'm
  114. 4:14here to tell you that it goes two ways
  115. 4:16we're going to hold the Press
  116. 4:17accountable as well the American people
  117. 4:19deserve and as long deserve better and
  118. 4:22as long as he serves as the messenger
  119. 4:23for this incredible movement he will
  120. 4:25take his message directly to the
  121. 4:27American people where his Focus will
  122. 4:29always be and with that a few other
  123. 4:32updates from the day the president had a
  124. 4:34constructive conversation with prime
  125. 4:35minister Tau of Canada about
  126. 4:37strengthening the relationship between
  127. 4:39our two Nations they also discussed
