- 0:00Hello everyone. We continue our search
- 0:01for personal style. And this is the
- 0:03third video on this topic. In the first
- 0:05part, we created a rough sketch of your
- 0:07personal style and built a system of
- 0:09personal filters. This is one of the
- 0:11most important stages. Be sure to watch
- 0:14the first part if you haven't seen it
- 0:16yet. In the second part, we analyzed
- 0:18past experiences, looking for patterns
- 0:20and inspiration in your old outfits.
- 0:23This exact path will lead you to an
- 0:25understanding of who you really are.
- 0:28And today, we will be putting together
- 0:29a mood board, but an unusual one.
- 0:31Generally, all stylists and bloggers
- 0:33suggest making your own mood board, but
- 0:34I haven't seen an approach like mine
- 0:36anywhere yet. It won't fit into any
- 0:38single collage, so I suggest creating a
- 0:40separate board on Pinterest or a folder
- 0:42on your phone and saving all the photos
- 0:44there. We need to visualize as many
- 0:46aspects of our style as possible. To do
- 0:49this, I have compiled a list of
- 0:50questions that can help us with this.
- 0:53In the first stage, we forget about
- 0:55clothes, about style, and turn on
- 0:57associative thinking. I suggest
- 0:59starting with nature. Think about what
- 1:01natural landscapes evoke a strong
- 1:03emotional response in you. These could
- 1:06be weather phenomena, flowers, textures
- 1:09, anything at all. Do not try to
- 1:11translate these associations into
- 1:13clothing immediately. For now, just
- 1:15answer the question: which nature photo
- 1:17feels like yours? This selection is
- 1:19purely for example. It will be enough
- 1:22for you to find one or two photos. Now
- 1:25pay attention to the animal kingdom. I
- 1:28mean all species: mammals, birds, fish,
- 1:30insects, everyone. We are not looking
- 1:33for a spirit animal and are not trying
- 1:35to describe your character. We are
- 1:37interested in which animals you find
- 1:39beautiful. Perhaps you don't even like
- 1:41the animal that much, but the photo
- 1:43itself attracts you for some reason. We
- 1:45save those too. It is important not to
- 1:47look for symbolism where there is none
- 1:48and not to save every single photo. One
- 1:51or two are quite enough. The next
- 1:53source of inspiration is art. Is there
- 1:56a painting you are ready to look at
- 1:58again and again? Maybe you like the
- 2:00work of a specific artist? You can
- 2:03include painting, graphics, sculpture,
- 2:06photography, or any visual art in this
- 2:09category. The next point is
- 2:11architecture and interior design. One
- 2:13of the most underrated sources of
- 2:15inspiration. You don't have to be an
- 2:17expert in styles or movements. Just add
- 2:19photos that you really like, that suit
- 2:22you, and somehow reflect your
- 2:23personality. The next question has an
- 2:26asterisk. But it would be very cool if
- 2:28you manage to complete it. Perhaps
- 2:30somewhere in your saved items there is
- 2:32an object that is like you. If you were
- 2:35an object, what object would you be?
- 2:38Just don't try to invent anything on
- 2:39purpose, complicate things, or
- 2:41introduce any extra meanings. The
- 2:43choice should be simple. You shouldn't
- 2:45have any doubts. Have you ever looked
- 2:48at, say, a mug and thought: "That is so
- 2:51me?""If I were a mug, I’d be exactly
- 2:54that one." Think about it; it could be
- 2:57absolutely anything. Any object, even
- 3:00food. Clothing items, too. But not
- 3:03necessarily what you’d want to wear,
- 3:06rather what feels like you in terms of
- 3:08character, mood, or vibe. Movies or
- 3:11specific film stills that you find
- 3:13visually appealing. Perhaps you like
- 3:16the color palette, the framing and
- 3:18lighting, or the characters 'looks
- 3:20themselves. Maybe it's just the general
- 3:22atmosphere, it doesn't matter. If a
- 3:24movie or movies come to mind right away
- 3:27, save them. Another item with an
- 3:29asterisk: music. If you feel the music
- 3:32you listen to influences your style,
- 3:35then you should consider it, too. Of
- 3:38course, we can't add it to our visual
- 3:40mood board, but just write down your
- 3:42favorite artists, genres, or individual
- 3:44tracks. Maybe whatever you're listening
- 3:46to at this point in your life. I want
- 3:50to remind you about the personal style
- 3:52challenge starting very soon, on August
- 3:543rd. If you wanted to take part, now is
- 3:57the time; registration is already open.
- 3:59All the information is waiting for you
- 4:00in the description. Like last time,
- 4:02there will be two plans at very
- 4:04reasonable prices, considering we'll be
- 4:06working together for 3 weeks. The
- 4:08entire challenge is built on the
- 4:09principle of moving from simple to
- 4:10complex. There will be 15 assignments
- 4:12in total on various topics. Working
- 4:15with silhouettes and proportions,
- 4:16working with color, textures, and
- 4:18fabrics. And more advanced techniques
- 4:20and approaches will, of course, be
- 4:22included as well. The assignments are
- 4:24universal and will suit everyone—men
- 4:26and women of any age. Who is this
- 4:28challenge for? If you have a lot of
- 4:31items you don't wear or rarely wear. If
- 4:34you don't know how to combine clothes
- 4:36or how to even approach them and where
- 4:38to start. Even if you know how to put
- 4:41together cool outfits, this challenge
- 4:43will still be useful because we all use
- 4:46a limited set of tricks we're used to.
- 4:49And the challenge will help you step
- 4:51outside those boundaries, try something
- 4:53new, and maybe adopt some new habits. I
- 4:55talked about this format in more detail
- 4:57in a separate video. I’ve left the
- 4:59link to it and to testimonials from
- 5:01past participants in the description.
- 5:03Next, I suggest choosing an era, any
- 5:06historical period whose aesthetic
- 5:08resonates with you the most. Each era
- 5:11includes certain visual and conceptual
- 5:13codes, characteristic silhouettes,
- 5:15color palettes, materials, and, most
- 5:17importantly, its own unique message. I
- 5:20have a very interesting video on my
- 5:22channel about stylish movies. I
- 5:23recommend watching it too, because it
- 5:26gives you a great sense of the style of
- 5:28the era in which it’s set. I
- 5:30specifically chose films with
- 5:32interesting stylizations to give you
- 5:34some inspiration. And yes, you don't
- 5:36have to be inspired only by the decades
- 5:38of the last century. Almost any
- 5:40historical period can be a source, but
- 5:42it will be a bit harder to adapt it to
- 5:45modern realities. You will need to
- 5:48highlight the visual codes you like and
- 5:50think about how to translate them into
- 5:53a modern language. With these examples,
- 5:55I tried to show you what it might look
- 5:57like, but we will deal with that a
- 5:59little later. For now, just choose an
- 6:01era or several eras that you like. As a
- 6:04next step, I suggest choosing a style
- 6:07or styles that resonate with you. We
- 6:09won't be dressing entirely in one style
- 6:11, but it's one of the components needed
- 6:14for our mood board. It could be
- 6:17minimalism, grunge, sport-chic,
- 6:19eclectic, dramatic or romantic style,
- 6:22and any other direction. If you like
- 6:25certain aesthetics or "cores," you can
- 6:27also include them in this mood board.
- 6:30If a style is an established fashion
- 6:32trend, then an internet aesthetic is
- 6:34more of a certain mood or visual image
- 6:37that unites clothing, music, interiors,
- 6:39and even a lifestyle. If you are
- 6:42interested in this topic, you can watch
- 6:44this video on my channel. You don't
- 6:46have to put only one era, one style, or
- 6:48one aesthetic on the board. You can
- 6:51choose several. The main thing is that
- 6:53they are truly close to you. Usually,
- 6:55unique and interesting styles are born
- 6:57from mixing very different things, but
- 7:00still, filter them. If you add five
- 7:03eras and 10 different styles, of course
- 7:05, you could somehow combine it all, but
- 7:07then your style will be unclear. The
- 7:11next item is fashion houses. If you are
- 7:14even slightly interested in fashion,
- 7:15there are surely brands whose
- 7:16collections you particularly like. Add
- 7:19them to your mood board. But there is
- 7:21one important point here. I suggest
- 7:23choosing not just a fashion house, but
- 7:25a specific period of its existence when
- 7:27it had a certain creative director. Yes
- 7:30, every fashion house has its own DNA.
- 7:33Certain values, aesthetics, and a
- 7:35visual language that have been
- 7:38maintained for decades. But it is the
- 7:40creative director who determines how
- 7:43this DNA will be interpreted today.
- 7:45Therefore, the same brand can look
- 7:47completely different under different
- 7:49designers. For example, if you like
- 7:51Gucci, it is important to clarify which
- 7:54Gucci: the Alessandro Michele era or
- 7:57the Tom Ford era. Even though it is one
- 7:59brand, the collections differ very
- 8:01significantly. The same can be said
- 8:03about many other fashion houses. With
- 8:06the arrival of a new creative director,
- 8:08the mood of the collections, color
- 8:10palette, silhouettes, styling methods,
- 8:12and even the vision of who these
- 8:14clothes are for can change. You've
- 8:17surely heard expressions like a Miu Miu
- 8:19girl or a Saint Laurent woman. This is
- 8:22a collective image, a type of person
- 8:24for whom a fashion house creates its
- 8:26collections. If you like several brands
- 8:29at once, that is perfectly normal and
- 8:31even good, because personal style is
- 8:33often born at the intersection of
- 8:35different aesthetics. Our task now is
- 8:37to collect all the references that
- 8:39evoke some kind of response in you.
- 8:41Later, we will see what unites them,
- 8:43and that is where we will find the
- 8:45basis of your personal style. The next
- 8:47source of inspiration is characters—
- 8:50any from films, series, cartoons, or
- 8:52games. It is important here not to
- 8:54confuse liking the character themselves
- 8:56with liking their look. We are
- 8:57interested in the visual component
- 8:59specifically. Do not think about
- 9:01whether you would be able to dress like
- 9:02that in real life. For now, that does
- 9:05not matter at all. Just save the
- 9:07characters' looks to the board. Next, I
- 9:09suggest adding real people whose style
- 9:12we like to the selection. These could
- 9:14be actors, musicians, fashion bloggers,
- 9:17or just individual looks of people we
- 9:19don't know. Do not think about whether
- 9:21you look like them physically. We are
- 9:23not looking for someone to copy. We are
- 9:26gathering visual references to later
- 9:28understand what techniques are repeated
- 9:31in your preferences. Details are also
- 9:33of great importance. These could be
- 9:35photos not of whole looks, but of
- 9:37individual elements that catch your
- 9:40attention for some reason. Perhaps a
- 9:43combination of textures and fabrics, an
- 9:45unusual technique, or a color
- 9:46combination. Don't worry if you don't
- 9:49yet understand why you saved a
- 9:50particular photo. Later, we will
- 9:53definitely analyze these patterns. I
- 9:55would also single out jewelry as a
- 9:57separate point. It doesn't matter now
- 9:59if they will fit into your wardrobe,
- 10:01just save them. Hair makes up a
- 10:03significant part of a look, so I
- 10:05suggest saving hairstyles as well. If
- 10:08you don't want to include hair, or you
- 10:10already have a certain haircut or set
- 10:12of hairstyles, you can skip this point.
- 10:15It's the same situation with makeup. If
- 10:17you found interesting ideas, they
- 10:19should also be saved. Nails, if that is
- 10:22relevant to you. If you like getting
- 10:25manicures and see it as part of your
- 10:27look, save a few options that you like.
- 10:30Most importantly, don't try to fill in
- 10:32every category. If a certain point
- 10:34isn't for you, feel free to skip it. If
- 10:36, on the contrary, you want to save
- 10:38more images in a certain category, that
- 10:40is also fine. At this stage, our mood
- 10:43board is ready. In a week, we will meet
- 10:45and do the most interesting part of the
- 10:47work. We will break down how to read
- 10:49this mood board, how to analyze it, and
- 10:51how to translate all of this into the
- 10:53language of clothing. A reminder that I
- 10:55recently released a lecture on body
- 10:57types and ways to work with our figure.
- 11:00You can also subscribe to my Telegram
- 11:01channel; there’s a lot of useful and
- 11:03interesting stuff there too.
- 11:05Registration for the challenge is still
- 11:06open. I’ve already left links to all
- 11:08my social media, all the lectures, and
- 11:10the challenge in the description.
- 11:12That’s all I have for today. Thank
- 11:13you so much for watching, and I’ll
- 11:15see you in the next video.
