  3. 0:10>> Hello and welcome back everyone to
  4. 0:12Unreal Engine 5 beginners guide to
  5. 0:13building an environment. In the last
  6. 0:15lesson we left it off by getting this
  7. 0:17roof attachment sorted and it actually
  8. 0:20looks pretty nice although looking at it
  9. 0:23we have some bits that are sticking out
  10. 0:25but that's going to be all right as
  11. 0:27we're going to use some wood beams to
  12. 0:29kind of highlight the entire frame of
  13. 0:32the roof. But before doing that though,
  14. 0:35I would like us to actually set up the
  15. 0:36size of these roofs to have some nice
  16. 0:39look to them and of course we got to
  17. 0:41make sure we texture them and so let's
  18. 0:43go ahead and right away do that.
  19. 0:46We're going to make use out of yet
  20. 0:48another Quixel texture. So let's go into
  21. 0:50the Quixel Bridge like so
  22. 0:53and we're going to search for something
  23. 0:56called wood log
  24. 0:58and we should get ourselves a category
  25. 1:01list. So let's go into the categories
  26. 1:02list and let's go down until we find
  27. 1:06wooden log wall. So if we're not able to
  28. 1:09find it because there's a lot of options
  29. 1:10actually, let's type in wall as well and
  30. 1:13we should be able to see a lot of
  31. 1:15options. So let's just make sure we pick
  32. 1:17something of this sort. I think this one
  33. 1:19is the nicest one since it has so much
  34. 1:21variation.
  35. 1:23So let's go ahead and click on it. Make
  36. 1:25sure we download it and afterwards make
  37. 1:28sure to add it onto your project. And
  38. 1:31once we have it within our project we
  39. 1:32can now close this down and we should
  40. 1:34have if we were to go onto the MegaScans
  41. 1:37surfaces, we should have wooden log
  42. 1:40wall. So this texture over here.
  43. 1:43Now we just got to decide the way we're
  44. 1:45going to set up for the front bits of
  45. 1:48these walls. And I think the best way
  46. 1:50would be to actually create ourselves a
  47. 1:52plane custom plane for the front of
  48. 1:55them. So let's go ahead and do that.
  49. 1:57We're going to go on to the modeling
  50. 1:59mode and within the shapes this time
  51. 2:02we're going to use a simple rectangle.
  52. 2:05So, by selecting on it and just placing
  53. 2:08it right at the front of our roof like
  54. 2:11so
  55. 2:12then by clicking once and hitting
  56. 2:14complete we'll be able to get ourselves
  57. 2:16a nice rectangle to work with. So, if we
  58. 2:19were to just bring it out just a little
  59. 2:21bit
  60. 2:22by getting it outwards like so, we can
  61. 2:24see that it is just a simple plane that
  62. 2:27we just created. And now we're able to
  63. 2:29make use out of it
  64. 2:30and set it up in a way to just make sure
  65. 2:33we put it for the front of the building.
  66. 2:35So, before doing that though, we got to
  67. 2:38make sure we adjust the entire set to be
  68. 2:41right in the middle and adjust it to the
  69. 2:43shape of this building. So, we're going
  70. 2:45to do that.
  71. 2:47We're going to make use out of the tri
  72. 2:48edit. Let's go ahead and select that.
  73. 2:51And of course, we got to make sure that
  74. 2:52this one is the one that's selected. Tri
  75. 2:55edit, there you go. And now we're going
  76. 2:57to make sure that only the vertices are
  77. 2:59selected. So, select vertices in the
  78. 3:01selection filter is selected and this
  79. 3:04way we can select both the vertices on
  80. 3:07the top
  81. 3:08and use this green icon over here to
  82. 3:12kind of squish them in a little bit like
  83. 3:14so. And actually right away we can
  84. 3:15actually reposition them to be right at
  85. 3:18the very front like so
  86. 3:21and just position it in a way that would
  87. 3:23cover up this entire section of the
  88. 3:25roof. So, I think we can do that.
  89. 3:28And I'm just going to make sure I
  90. 3:32stand it just a little bit more.
  91. 3:34And we're only making sure that we
  92. 3:37kind of switching the vertices the way
  93. 3:40we're manipulating the entire mesh only
  94. 3:44on this two planar kind of a position.
  95. 3:46We're not going to bring it back or
  96. 3:49forth from this roof. We're going to do
  97. 3:52that later on. We're just going to make
  98. 3:53sure that this entire plane is
  99. 3:55completely vertical. So, we're just
  100. 3:57going to make sure it's more or less in
  101. 4:00the same kind of area. Then, we're going
  102. 4:02to bring get the bottom ones as well.
  103. 4:04Bring them all the way down.
  104. 4:06And we're going to scale them up to the
  105. 4:09side like so.
  106. 4:11Now, if by chance your vertices don't
  107. 4:14align, if they're not completely in the
  108. 4:15center, we can also just select them
  109. 4:18individually and kind of reposition them
  110. 4:20individually like so, which might be
  111. 4:23something that might be even faster, to
  112. 4:26be honest, to do. So, I think that's
  113. 4:28quite nice. We don't have to be perfect
  114. 4:30with them. We're going to use some wood
  115. 4:32planks to kind of cover up the sides
  116. 4:34later on. But for now, that's going to
  117. 4:36be good. Let's go ahead and click
  118. 4:37accept.
  119. 4:39And we got ourselves a nice plane for
  120. 4:41the middle section. Of course, as you
  121. 4:43can see, even with the default material,
  122. 4:45there are some squares that are just
  123. 4:48misaligned and the UVs for this material
  124. 4:51is not going to be applied quite as
  125. 4:53well. So, what we need to do is going to
  126. 4:54make sure we change up the projection
  127. 4:57for the UV coordinates. And the easiest
  128. 4:59way for us to do that, if we scroll all
  129. 5:01the way down, is by simply making use
  130. 5:03out of the automatic UVs. If we simply
  131. 5:05click on it, and the default settings
  132. 5:07are going to be quite nice. It is a
  133. 5:08simple plane. It's basically just going
  134. 5:10to be a simple box projection to the
  135. 5:13front of this area. If we hit accept,
  136. 5:16we're going to get much nicer results
  137. 5:18right away.
  138. 5:19So, that is going to be quite nice. Of
  139. 5:21course, that is only for the front
  140. 5:23section. We need to get back and front
  141. 5:25for this other area as well. And
  142. 5:28actually, let's try and make use out of
  143. 5:30this. Maybe it might be quite nice.
  144. 5:33Just going to make a duplicate, rotate
  145. 5:35it 90°,
  146. 5:37and put it to the side like so.
  147. 5:40The video got cut off in this section,
  148. 5:41but all I did was in this area was just
  149. 5:44make use out of the automatic UV unwrap,
  150. 5:47and that just gave us some nice UVs. So,
  151. 5:50just in the same way as we did for the
  152. 5:52house itself, we just make use out of
  153. 5:54the same tool, and that gives us some
  154. 5:56nice way to start off our textures, and
  155. 5:58then all we do is just apply the
  156. 6:00material instance for the size of the
  157. 6:02roofs, and then we can continue on and
  158. 6:04adjust certain values from within it.
  159. 6:08We're going to make sure they align. So,
  160. 6:113.5
  161. 6:13that's going to look quite nice. We can
  162. 6:15kind of close this down, and yeah, I
  163. 6:17think
  164. 6:18they look quite nice. We can also even
  165. 6:20make some adjustments to the way they
  166. 6:22look. We can play around with a little
  167. 6:24bit of intensity for it. And actually,
  168. 6:26if we scroll down,
  169. 6:28we have something called normal
  170. 6:30strength, which is actually, if we
  171. 6:32increase it, we'd get more intense of
  172. 6:35bumps out of these. But I think in this
  173. 6:36case, I actually want to decrease them
  174. 6:38and kind of flatten them out a little
  175. 6:40bit. I think they look much better in
  176. 6:42that regard for what we're trying to
  177. 6:44achieve. So, by setting it up to a value
  178. 6:47of 0.8, I think they look much better.
  179. 6:51So, let's go ahead and keep it as is.
  180. 6:53Or actually, let's go ahead and keep it
  181. 6:55to a 0.5 of a value.
  182. 6:57I think they're going to look much nicer
  183. 6:59as a result.
  184. 7:00Let's go ahead and close this down, and
  185. 7:02actually, sorry, let's go ahead and open
  186. 7:05it up real quick and go to albedo
  187. 7:06controls and lower the saturation to a
  188. 7:09value of 0.8, just a little bit. I think
  189. 7:11that's going to look much better as the
  190. 7:14overall kind of result for this type of
  191. 7:16texture.
  192. 7:18And now we can finally close this down,
  193. 7:19and yeah, that's going to be it. So, in
  194. 7:22the next lesson, we're going to continue
  195. 7:23on working this roof and kind of break
  196. 7:26off some edges using some of the wood
  197. 7:29ends, and in general, we're just going
  198. 7:31to make the roof look really nice. So,
  199. 7:33thanks so much for watching, and I'll
  200. 7:35see you in a bit.
