  3. 0:15>> Hello and welcome back everyone to
  4. 0:16Unreal Engine beginner's guide to
  5. 0:17building an environment. In the last
  6. 0:19lesson we left it off by getting a base
  7. 0:22set up with a texture the size of the
  8. 0:24walls for our tiny little hut. And right
  9. 0:27now we're going to continue adding a
  10. 0:29little bit of an extra touch with a side
  11. 0:32roof attached to this area. So let's go
  12. 0:35ahead and get started. I think we can
  13. 0:36start off by getting a nice foundation
  14. 0:40pole for this section and I think we
  15. 0:42just click add and go to Quixel Bridge
  16. 0:46right away.
  17. 0:47Then we can search for wood pole
  18. 0:50and see what we have. And actually
  19. 0:53Sorry about that, it's not a pole, it's
  20. 0:55going to be a post.
  21. 0:57So if we search for that, we're going to
  22. 0:59get some results out of that. So I think
  23. 1:02there you go, this is the one that I
  24. 1:03quite like. It's a simple but nice bit
  25. 1:07of a wooden texture and let's go ahead
  26. 1:09and make sure we have this downloaded
  27. 1:11and added onto our project.
  28. 1:15So once we have it added onto our
  29. 1:16project, let's go ahead and close down
  30. 1:18this window and go onto the MegaScans 3D
  31. 1:21assets and this one is going to be
  32. 1:25actually instead of just simply
  33. 1:28searching for all of our folders, I find
  34. 1:30it easier when we use filters. So in
  35. 1:34this tab over here, if we were to click
  36. 1:36on it, we can see a bunch of different
  37. 1:38filters that we can make use out of. But
  38. 1:40this time we're just going to be using a
  39. 1:42static mesh tab. So if we were to select
  40. 1:45it, it'll show you everything within
  41. 1:46those folders that has static mesh as a
  42. 1:50label. And that'll include all the
  43. 1:52assets that we used previously as well
  44. 1:54as the wooden post that we just
  45. 1:56downloaded. So let's go ahead and simply
  46. 1:58drag and drop it into our world and by
  47. 2:01default it is actually quite small. So,
  48. 2:03we may we need to make sure we increase
  49. 2:05that by quite a large amount. And I
  50. 2:07think we can just make sure we have the
  51. 2:09snapping tool for the scale enabled and
  52. 2:12increase it just like that.
  53. 2:15And actually going back to the filters
  54. 2:16tab, if you want to change up the assets
  55. 2:18and see all of our assets again, we're
  56. 2:20going to be able to do that by simply
  57. 2:22clicking on this button over here, which
  58. 2:24will turn off the filter for the static
  59. 2:27meshes. Now, what's nice about doing
  60. 2:29this kind of a way when working with
  61. 2:31filters is that right now because we
  62. 2:33used it previously, this static mesh
  63. 2:35tags uh tag is always going to be there.
  64. 2:37So, it's actually going to be nice for
  65. 2:39when we're working throughout our
  66. 2:40project and we want to see all of our
  67. 2:42static meshes again, we simply have to
  68. 2:44click on this button over here and
  69. 2:45that'll just straight up show us all the
  70. 2:48static meshes within our Megascans
  71. 2:50folder, which is quite nice. So, I'm
  72. 2:52just going to actually do save down the
  73. 2:54folder, click control and S to save it
  74. 2:56and I'm going to reposition this pole to
  75. 3:00be to the side.
  76. 3:03Going to make it just a little bit
  77. 3:04larger. So, maybe it's a little bit too
  78. 3:06large actually.
  79. 3:08Yeah, make it smaller. This is going to
  80. 3:10be quite fine because we're actually
  81. 3:11going to have another frame support on
  82. 3:14the side.
  83. 3:16We're going to position it
  84. 3:17in the way that would help us to get rid
  85. 3:20of the
  86. 3:21placeholder just like that.
  87. 3:23Now, for the rest of the roof, we're
  88. 3:25going to actually make use out of the
  89. 3:27same planks that we had previously. So,
  90. 3:29we're just going to grab a couple of
  91. 3:30them.
  92. 3:32I think something like grabbing five
  93. 3:34will do. Now, we're going to hold alt
  94. 3:38and make a duplicate by simply dragging
  95. 3:40it out into the world like so.
  96. 3:43And now I'm just trying to figure out
  97. 3:45maybe we needed six. Let me just go
  98. 3:47ahead and try to position it
  99. 3:49accordingly and see if that will be
  100. 3:52enough. And of course that's not going
  101. 3:54to be enough.
  102. 3:55So actually we need a couple of extra
  103. 3:58ones. So instead of five we're going to
  104. 4:00need seven. So I'm just going to hit
  105. 4:02control Z a couple of times like so.
  106. 4:05Make sure I go all the way to before we
  107. 4:07when it was duplicated.
  108. 4:09And I think I'm just going to grab these
  109. 4:10couple like so.
  110. 4:12And bring it
  111. 4:14up just like that. So we're going to be
  112. 4:16able to make use out of these planks
  113. 4:19just like that
  114. 4:21to have a nice kind of a
  115. 4:23texture for the roof.
  116. 4:25And I think
  117. 4:27Yeah, I think the texture itself is not
  118. 4:30going to look quite as nice. So we're
  119. 4:31going to be changing that up in a
  120. 4:32second. We're actually just going to
  121. 4:34position this roof to be rotated a
  122. 4:36little bit like so.
  123. 4:39And I think we're just going to delete
  124. 4:41this placeholder right away.
  125. 4:43And the way we want to have this roof is
  126. 4:46actually we don't want to have any type
  127. 4:47of gaps in between those two. So we're
  128. 4:49going to be squishing all of these up a
  129. 4:52little bit like so.
  130. 4:53And just going to make sure that
  131. 4:56they kind of don't have gap in the
  132. 4:58middle.
  133. 4:59And they only just have a nice kind of a
  134. 5:03roof so it would actually protect from
  135. 5:05the rain coming downwards. So that's
  136. 5:07going to be much nicer I think. And
  137. 5:11actually just going to
  138. 5:13set them up just like that.
  139. 5:16And going to move this other piece like
  140. 5:19so.
  141. 5:20And this one like that.
  142. 5:23And finally this one over here like so.
  143. 5:26So now that we have it like that we can
  144. 5:28select all of them and what we can do is
  145. 5:30actually quite simple. We can just uh
  146. 5:33click R go to our scaling and just scale
  147. 5:36it up all the way like so. Now this
  148. 5:39might look a little bit too stretched
  149. 5:41out
  150. 5:42but let's go ahead and check that out
  151. 5:44before
  152. 5:46making any changes.
  153. 5:48And I think
  154. 5:49I think it'll still look quite nice,
  155. 5:50actually. We're going to keep it as is.
  156. 5:54In regards to the textures, I think
  157. 5:55it'll look really nice, so
  158. 5:57we've just got to make sure we attach
  159. 5:59this to the side of the roof.
  160. 6:01So, let's go ahead and do just that. I'm
  161. 6:03actually going to move this
  162. 6:05with the gizmo set as local and just
  163. 6:07kind of slide it backwards like so, so
  164. 6:10we have all of these sticking outwards
  165. 6:12just like that.
  166. 6:14And I think we'll have some real nice
  167. 6:16results by the end of it. We've just got
  168. 6:18to make sure we stick it to the side of
  169. 6:20the roof.
  170. 6:22And it'll give us some really, really
  171. 6:25nice patterns to work with.
  172. 6:27And actually, we'll need to make some
  173. 6:29additional adjustments, but before the
  174. 6:30doing that,
  175. 6:32we got to make sure we're actually
  176. 6:34sticking this to the roof. I'm just
  177. 6:36going to click control Z because I mis
  178. 6:37selected
  179. 6:38my option.
  180. 6:41And again, I'm going to stretch it out
  181. 6:43even more
  182. 6:44until we get this sort of a shape. I
  183. 6:47think that's going to look quite all
  184. 6:48right.
  185. 6:49Of course, these planks are a little bit
  186. 6:51too much off.
  187. 6:52I'm just going to squish them down a
  188. 6:53little bit like so. But, we can actually
  189. 6:56make use out of them
  190. 6:58and
  191. 6:59have them be just like that. And this is
  192. 7:03where the variation comes in from
  193. 7:05actually by going to the local mode like
  194. 7:07so.
  195. 7:08We're going to do it in a bit, but
  196. 7:09basically, we'll want to kind of slide
  197. 7:11uh some of them up and down a little bit
  198. 7:14just to make sure
  199. 7:16we get some variation in between those
  200. 7:18planks.
  201. 7:20I think this one we can just for now
  202. 7:22focus on the front a little bit. We can
  203. 7:24break off the front of the roof just a
  204. 7:27little bit more and get a nicer
  205. 7:28variation out of this overall kind of a
  206. 7:31tile.
  207. 7:33So, I think this one
  208. 7:35we can instead of just scaling it up, we
  209. 7:36can just bring it back a little bit like
  210. 7:38so.
  211. 7:39Just like that.
  212. 7:41We're getting some nice variation in
  213. 7:43this one for sure. I think we need to
  214. 7:45upscale it just to make sure we keep the
  215. 7:48original form
  216. 7:49for the roof.
  217. 7:51Actually, I even want to make sure that
  218. 7:53this is
  219. 7:55a bit of a wider type of a plank at the
  220. 7:57very end.
  221. 7:59Going to give us nice results.
  222. 8:01And probably want to squish down this
  223. 8:04gap like this. I think this is going to
  224. 8:05look quite nice.
  225. 8:07And finally, just going to go for all of
  226. 8:10the front to check how this looks. Maybe
  227. 8:13want the final one to be a little bit
  228. 8:15wider as well. That's the nice way to
  229. 8:17break them apart. And finally, of
  230. 8:19course, we need to make sure we have
  231. 8:21some variation within this as well
  232. 8:23because right now it just looks a little
  233. 8:24bit too flat. So, what we can do is we
  234. 8:26can grab one of them, make sure that the
  235. 8:28gizmo is set to the world location
  236. 8:31position, and then if we were to just
  237. 8:33bring it down just a little bit, we can
  238. 8:35see the type of difference it makes
  239. 8:36within our entire roof. So, that is
  240. 8:40actually quite nice.
  241. 8:41We can even just rotate it a little bit
  242. 8:44slightly without the snapping mode
  243. 8:46turned on. And by doing that,
  244. 8:50if I were to select the right one, and
  245. 8:51by doing that just a little bit, we're
  246. 8:53going to be able to kind of have it
  247. 8:56snapping out outside of this area over
  248. 8:58here. And I think it's just going to
  249. 8:59look so much nicer if we do that. So, I
  250. 9:02think I'm just going to grab the last
  251. 9:04couple of ones.
  252. 9:05Just do the same kind of a idea
  253. 9:08where we just slightly rotate them.
  254. 9:11And in turn,
  255. 9:12I think it gives us a really nice type
  256. 9:15of looking roof. And we still have some
  257. 9:18supports to add to this roof since it's
  258. 9:21already just kind of floating by in the
  259. 9:23air, but I think we're going to do that
  260. 9:25in the next lesson, and we're going to
  261. 9:27adjust the color at the same time as
  262. 9:29well. So, thank you so much for
  263. 9:31watching, and I'll see you in a bit.
  264. 9:39>> [music]
  265. 9:42>> Hey.
