- 0:15>> All right, welcome back everyone to
- 0:16Unreal Engine 5 beginners guide to
- 0:18building an environment. In the last
- 0:20lesson we left it off by finishing off
- 0:21some final touches for the adjustment of
- 0:24the textures for our bridge. And this
- 0:26time we're going to continue working on
- 0:27our environment and set up the house or
- 0:30at least start setting up the house with
- 0:33different Quixel materials. So let's go
- 0:35ahead and get started. I'm just going to
- 0:36close down this material instance that I
- 0:38had set up previously and right away I
- 0:40think we can start off with the roof
- 0:43itself.
- 0:44So let's go ahead and do that. So I
- 0:47think we're just going to go back onto
- 0:49the Megascans folder and since we don't
- 0:51have any of the textures we're going to
- 0:53make use out of the Quixel textures that
- 0:55we have. So we're going to open up a
- 0:58folder or the Quixel bridge
- 1:01window that is.
- 1:02And we're going to search for a wood
- 1:05wooden roof. So if we're to search for
- 1:07wood and then roof like so.
- 1:10Both of these typed in we're going to
- 1:12get a couple of options to pick from and
- 1:15if we were to scroll down
- 1:18we're going to find couple of choices.
- 1:20So we're going to be using weather wood
- 1:23slate roof. This one over here. I think
- 1:26it looks quite nice for the type of
- 1:27scenery that we're trying to get and
- 1:29let's go ahead and make sure we download
- 1:31this one and then add it onto our
- 1:33project.
- 1:35And then afterwards once we get it into
- 1:36our project we're going to get it into
- 1:39our Megascans folder. However, it's not
- 1:40going to be in the same folder as we had
- 1:43our other materials instead it's going
- 1:44to create instead of our 3D assets it's
- 1:46going to create surfaces. That is
- 1:48because the surfaces is set up for this
- 1:52type of category. So the one that we had
- 1:54for the roof
- 1:56so I'm just going to go back and quickly
- 1:58show you what I mean. So, this one over
- 2:00here is actually set up as a material
- 2:03and not an asset. So, that's going to be
- 2:06a little bit different as it will only
- 2:08have the textures provided to be used
- 2:10for this environment. So, right now if
- 2:13we were to access the surfaces folder,
- 2:15weathered wood slate roof,
- 2:18we're just going to get a material
- 2:19instances with the textures set on. So,
- 2:21we need to firstly get ourselves
- 2:23something to put on these roof tiles on.
- 2:26So, I think instead of just applying it
- 2:28right away onto this area, onto this
- 2:31entire a gray box that we have, we're
- 2:33instead going to create ourselves a
- 2:35really quick and simple plane. So, let's
- 2:37go ahead and click on the quickly add to
- 2:40project, select shapes and add plane.
- 2:44And we're just going to get ourselves a
- 2:46real nice plane. And then right away, if
- 2:48we were to just drag and drop it onto
- 2:50our plane, the material instance that we
- 2:52have, we're going to get this sort of
- 2:54result, which is going to be pretty
- 2:55nice. So, now we're just going to be
- 2:57applying it onto these tiled these
- 3:00tilted roofs, and we're going to get
- 3:02much nicer results. So, we're going to
- 3:05drag it onto the sides like so, and
- 3:07we're going to adjust the overall angle
- 3:10to fit the overall
- 3:12set of a roof.
- 3:14So, we're just going to position it just
- 3:16a bit sideways like so.
- 3:18And we're going to actually turn off the
- 3:20snapping to angle like so.
- 3:23And make sure that the upper snapping is
- 3:24turned off as well. This way we'll have
- 3:26more control for this particular task.
- 3:29And so, we basically now have it
- 3:32not maybe not perfectly snapped because
- 3:34there's a tiny gap, but of course we
- 3:36don't need to worry about it too much
- 3:37because we're going to be overlaying our
- 3:39our
- 3:39assets with this roof as well. So,
- 3:41that's not much of an issue. Right now,
- 3:43what we need to do though is make sure
- 3:46it covers the entire roof. So, what
- 3:47we're going to do is actually we're
- 3:48going to click R, go into the scale
- 3:51mode, and just scale it across our
- 3:54entire roof tile. For now, we don't need
- 3:56to worry about the stretching. We're
- 3:57going to fix that in a bit. We're just
- 3:59going to make sure that this entire
- 4:00plane is covering our entire roof. And
- 4:03now, if we click R,
- 4:04and we got to make sure that we scaling
- 4:06it up like this sideways when it's has a
- 4:10gizmo tilted as well in regards to the
- 4:12local position. So, this one is
- 4:15automatically set as a local
- 4:18position, which is actually quite nice,
- 4:20but
- 4:21if you want to move it and transform it
- 4:24using just a normal transformation
- 4:26gizmo, we'd have to set this a gizmo
- 4:29coordinate to be from the world space to
- 4:32the object space. And this way, it
- 4:33allows us to move and kind of slide it
- 4:36across the roof just like that. So, this
- 4:38is quite useful when we want to position
- 4:40a roof to be right in the center of our
- 4:43area just like that. I'm actually going
- 4:45to rotate it just a little bit more like
- 4:47so,
- 4:48and have it covered our entire roof just
- 4:51like that. Actually, we need to make
- 4:54sure we set it up all the way to the
- 4:56back like so,
- 4:57and cover it with up all the way just
- 5:01like that. So, now we have one end
- 5:03covered up. We're going to, of course,
- 5:05set the other end as well.
- 5:07So, we're going to click W, go into the
- 5:10transformation tab, uh change the rotate
- 5:14gizmo from local to the world position,
- 5:16and then while holding Alt, we're going
- 5:18to drag it sideways out like so.
- 5:21Then, we're going to click E to go to
- 5:22rotation mode. Make sure that the
- 5:24snapping is turned on, and we're going
- 5:26to turn this 180°.
- 5:29So, we'll be flipping it all the way
- 5:30around us,
- 5:32and we're going to get it a nice roof
- 5:34tile on our side as well, which is quite
- 5:37nice. So, now we can actually grab both
- 5:39of these tiles both of these roof tiles
- 5:41and kind of drag it to the side just
- 5:43like that.
- 5:45And position the roof tiles
- 5:48to be on the side
- 5:50like so. And I think because they're
- 5:51more or less the same kind of rooftops,
- 5:54we can actually make use out of this
- 5:55like so.
- 5:57We might need to Yeah, we might need to
- 5:58readjust this a little bit. So, that's
- 6:01going to be
- 6:03actually okay. We need to turn off the
- 6:05snapping mode, of course.
- 6:08And I'm going to position this one to be
- 6:10closer
- 6:12to this side of the roof.
- 6:15So, it has a bit of a different angle,
- 6:17but I think it's going to make the
- 6:19overall design for this
- 6:21roof, the upper section, much nicer as
- 6:24it helps to break up some of that
- 6:26design. I'll actually delete this and
- 6:28and we'll
- 6:29duplicate it in a second. We just need
- 6:31to make sure that this one is set up
- 6:33quite nicely.
- 6:35So, we just kind of
- 6:37positioning it in the way that we want,
- 6:39stretching it out as well.
- 6:41And we're going to have it just like
- 6:43that.
- 6:44Actually, we might need to do it a
- 6:45little bit more. Let's go ahead and
- 6:48kind of
- 6:49get it in the right area just like that.
- 6:53And I think Yeah, let's go ahead and
- 6:55actually
- 6:56turn on the local and just kind of
- 6:58squish it
- 7:00back onto the roof like so.
- 7:02And
- 7:04going to lower it down maybe.
- 7:06Squish it just make sure that it fills
- 7:08this entire roof area just like that.
- 7:11This entire plane. Again, we're not
- 7:12worried about how the tiles are going to
- 7:15look like just yet. We just need to make
- 7:17sure that they're positioned right for
- 7:20this plane to be right at the side of
- 7:22the roof. And of course, we need to
- 7:24duplicate it for the other end as well.
- 7:26So, let's go ahead and do that.
- 7:28We're going to rotate this 180 degrees.
- 7:30So, click E, make sure to have the
- 7:33snapping on. And whoa.
- 7:36That seemed to have caused some issue.
- 7:38Just going to click control Z. I'm not
- 7:39sure why that was the case. Going to
- 7:41click F to reposition my camera and it
- 7:44seems to be doing the same kind of an
- 7:46issue. So, I'm actually going to
- 7:47deselect
- 7:49this and select it back up and it seems
- 7:51like I made a mistake and duplicated it
- 7:53within my blueprint again. I can see
- 7:56that I made it like so. Going to delete
- 7:59it. Make sure I have this plane
- 8:01reselected. Then going to hold Alt, drag
- 8:04it out and make a duplicate out of it
- 8:06just like that. I'm not sure why that
- 8:08was the case. Just going to set it up to
- 8:11the side
- 8:12again and position the roof
- 8:16to be just like that.
- 8:18So, yeah, this is already looking quite
- 8:20nice.
- 8:21I think
- 8:23we might need to make couple of extra
- 8:25adjustments,
- 8:26but it might actually be quite all
- 8:28right. Okay, so now that we're done with
- 8:30the roof and its placement, let's go
- 8:31ahead and actually fix up the way
- 8:33they're being tiled. So, what we're
- 8:35going to do is actually I'm going to
- 8:36make a duplicate out of the original
- 8:37material instance and this way we're
- 8:40going to be able to make use out of it
- 8:42to make some tiles. I'm just going to
- 8:44reapply onto this section of the roof as
- 8:46well as the other end as its backside.
- 8:50So, just doing it like so.
- 8:52And this way we're able to get a
- 8:54duplicate out of these material tiles.
- 8:56And now we're able to just go into it
- 8:58and make some adjustments for them. I'll
- 9:00make the different type of copy for the
- 9:03other side of the roof, upper part of
- 9:05the roof, but that's going to be in a
- 9:06bit as these ones need to have more or
- 9:09less the same kind of pattern. And
- 9:10because we stretched out this type of a
- 9:12plane a little bit more than this one,
- 9:14it might not look quite as good. So,
- 9:17we're going to scroll down all the way
- 9:19to a
- 9:21Actually, let's scroll up a little bit
- 9:23and it's actually going to be the very
- 9:25first one in the adjustments tab. So,
- 9:27underneath the global tab is going to be
- 9:30tiling offset. We're going to make sure
- 9:32we tick this on. We're going to open
- 9:34this up and we get some options to use.
- 9:37So, offset is just going to allow us to
- 9:40move the pattern. So, if we want to do
- 9:42that, we can, but it's not needed at
- 9:45this moment. So, I'm just going to leave
- 9:47it as a default a zero value. Now, as
- 9:49for the tiling,
- 9:51we're going to make sure we tile this up
- 9:53because otherwise it's too large. I
- 9:55think we just as a default we started
- 9:57off with 2 by 2 and see how this looks
- 10:00like. It might look quite all right. So,
- 10:03I think I quite like it. Or maybe let's
- 10:05try 1.5
- 10:08by 1.5.
- 10:10Like so.
- 10:12And yeah, 1.5 by 1.5 is going to look
- 10:15quite nice. And of course,
- 10:16the stretching is happening sideways.
- 10:19So, we need to determine which way that
- 10:21is being faced up and that is going to
- 10:23be just by playing around with the
- 10:25value. I can see that it is going to
- 10:26actually be the tiling X. So, that is
- 10:29what it is needed to be changed. And
- 10:33because we stretch it out this way, we
- 10:34need to increase this. So, the value of
- 10:36two maybe will do the trick or even 2.5.
- 10:40Let's try that.
- 10:42And yeah, I think 2.5 is looking quite
- 10:44nice actually.
- 10:46So, let's go ahead and keep it as is.
- 10:48And yeah, let's check the other side as
- 10:51well because it uses the same material
- 10:53instance is going to give us the same
- 10:55results. So, now we can close this down
- 10:57after fixing it up. And now we basically
- 11:00are going to make a duplicate out of the
- 11:02already adjusted material instance just
- 11:04to save up some more of that time. So,
- 11:06we're going to select it, control C,
- 11:07control V, make a duplicate a third
- 11:09material instance, apply this directly
- 11:12onto the roof and see how it looks like.
- 11:14And by default,
- 11:16it already is looking quite nice, but we
- 11:18just need to squish it just a little bit
- 11:20in the tiling what in the tiling X
- 11:23direction. So, 2.5 let's change that up
- 11:27to be, let's say, three.
- 11:30And maybe that's just enough. I think
- 11:32that's enough. It's going to give us the
- 11:34same kind of a pattern and I think I
- 11:36quite like it as is. So, let's go ahead
- 11:38and keep it actually. I'm going to close
- 11:40this down and now let's go ahead and not
- 11:42forget to hit control and S to save this
- 11:44entire project.
- 11:46And I think we're going to keep the
- 11:48overall design, the albedo adjustments
- 11:50and whatnot as default ones. I think the
- 11:52original texture looks quite nice. So,
- 11:55yeah. That's going to be it for this
- 11:57lesson. In the next lesson, we're going
- 11:58to apply more texture surfaces. I think
- 12:02for the main body of this house. So,
- 12:05thank you so much for watching and I'll
- 12:07see you in a bit.
