- 0:00Our planet Earth has some of the most
- 0:02breathtaking landscapes, but unlike
- 0:05tourist-filled cities [music] and towns,
- 0:06there are a few places no human should
- 0:09ever dare to visit. Here are the 15 most
- 0:12dangerous [music] places on Earth.
- 0:16Number 15, Snake Island, Brazil. 93
- 0:20miles away from Sao [music] Paulo lies a
- 0:22land that is considered to be the most
- 0:24dangerous place on Earth. Ilha da
- 0:26Queimada Grande, or Snake Island, is an
- 0:28island where no human is allowed to step
- 0:30foot on.
- 0:31With highly venomous and deadly golden
- 0:33lancehead snakes slithering around the
- 0:35land, there is [music] no safe quarter
- 0:37on the island.
- 0:38Last known human inhabitants date back
- 0:40to the 1920s. Legend says the last
- 0:42[music] fisherman who strayed too close
- 0:44to the island shore was discovered on
- 0:46his boat days later lifeless in [music]
- 0:47his own pool of blood.
- 0:51Number 14, Sinabung volcano, Indonesia.
- 0:54Mount Sinabung is arguably one of the
- 0:56most dangerous places on Earth. In 2010,
- 0:59after 400 years in dormancy, Sinabung
- 1:01volcano awoke and spewed hot gas, ash,
- 1:04and rocks into the Indonesian land.
- 1:07Thousands were harmed and at least 15
- 1:09people were killed. Sinabung volcano is
- 1:11the only volcano on level four alerts
- 1:13and completely off-limits to any
- 1:15climbers. In 2019, another eruption
- 1:18caused havoc across the local village.
- 1:20Captured footage shows how ash and smoke
- 1:22shot 23,000 feet into the air
- 1:25[music]
- 1:25and coated the land in debris.
- 1:28Number 13, Bermuda Triangle.
- 1:31One of the world's most [music] famous
- 1:32mysteries is the infamous Bermuda
- 1:34Triangle.
- 1:36The Devil's Triangle is bounded by
- 1:38Miami, Bermuda, [music] and Puerto Rico,
- 1:40and is the place where ships, planes,
- 1:41and people mysteriously disappear.
- 1:44Giant airplanes and boats have vanished
- 1:46without ever radioing for distress
- 1:48messages. Some theories say that
- 1:50powerful rogue waves that reach up to
- 1:52100 feet destroy all evidence of a ship
- 1:54or plane and are the cause of sudden
- 1:56disappearances. [music]
- 1:57No matter what the reasons may be, the
- 1:59Bermuda Triangle is the world's most
- 2:01supernatural [music] and paranormal
- 2:03place.
- 2:05Number 12, Lake Natron, Tanzania.
- 2:09Lake Natron is a notorious [music] place
- 2:10on Earth where all living creatures die
- 2:12from simple contact and where birds
- 2:15suddenly turn into stones and statues.
- 2:17Not only is the lake extremely alkaline,
- 2:20but this supernatural place in Tanzania
- 2:22can reach dangerously high temperatures
- 2:23as well. [music]
- 2:25And while the glass-looking and
- 2:26reflective lake tricks birds into flying
- 2:28straight into water, it's the climate
- 2:30that turns these creatures into stones.
- 2:32[music]
- 2:33During dry seasons, when the water
- 2:35recedes, the birds desiccate and turn
- 2:37into stone-like statues. The pictures
- 2:39[music] speak for themselves.
- 2:42Number 11, Death Valley, California, US.
- 2:47Death Valley is a very apt name for this
- 2:49Californian desert. With the highest
- 2:51temperature ever recorded in [music]
- 2:53history, Death Valley's degrees vary
- 2:55from 134° Fahrenheit at dawn to -10°
- 2:59Fahrenheit at night.
- 3:01At 282 ft below sea level, Death Valley
- 3:04is the lowest point in North [music]
- 3:06America.
- 3:07Without any water, the hottest place on
- 3:09Earth can kill a human within 14 hours.
- 3:12The mysterious [music] desert has rocks
- 3:14that move across the ground and sand
- 3:16that sings.
- 3:18Worth a quick trip and adventure, but
- 3:20make sure to drink your water.
- 3:24Number 10,
- 3:25[music]
- 3:25Danakil Desert, Eritrea.
- 3:27Hell on Earth and the world's most
- 3:29inhospitable place are nicknames
- 3:32rightfully given to the Danakil Desert
- 3:33in Eritrea.
- 3:35If these nicknames weren't enough to
- 3:36paint a picture of how dangerous this
- 3:38place truly is, let's dig a little
- 3:40deeper.
- 3:41The sun favors one place on Earth and
- 3:43that place sits in Eritrea, Africa.
- 3:46Located in northeast Ethiopia, it's the
- 3:48land the Afar people call home, Danakil
- 3:51Desert.
- 3:52With an average year-round temperature
- 3:54of 95° F, this African desert is one of
- 3:57the hottest scorching places on Earth.
- 3:59But, the dry and hot weather aren't the
- 4:00only features of this astounding desert.
- 4:03Across hundreds of miles stands the
- 4:05Danakil Depression, a place where three
- 4:07tectonic plates join and create the
- 4:09depression. As small [music] volcanoes
- 4:11dominate the rift valley, the floor is
- 4:13mostly made of basaltic lava. Its
- 4:16flaming hot lava can be captured at
- 4:18night when the flaming magma displays a
- 4:20dangerously beautiful scene.
- 4:22[music]
- 4:24Number nine, Valley of Death, Russia.
- 4:28You might think the Valley of Death is
- 4:29an overexaggeration or a tad bit too
- 4:32dramatic. But, once you hear about this
- 4:34supernatural place, you'll see why this
- 4:36name is very fitting and apt.
- 4:38Located in eastern Russia is a place
- 4:40that is called an animal graveyard. Many
- 4:43puzzling, head-scratching, and
- 4:44backstories and origins, this valley
- 4:46remains to be an unsolved mystery.
- 4:49According to legend, [music] two hunters
- 4:51stumbled upon the bizarre land in the
- 4:521930s. Upon climbing up the Kikhpinych
- 4:55[music] volcano, they saw land with no
- 4:57grass or plants covered with dead animal
- 4:59bodies.
- 5:01The explorers soon started to feel dizzy
- 5:03and decided to flee the area. As rumors
- 5:05of the mysterious land spread, many
- 5:07tried to finally solve the puzzle and
- 5:09come back with proper answers. Just like
- 5:11animals, around 80 human lives were
- 5:13taken by the supernatural valley.
- 5:15Scientists have deduced that the
- 5:17lethality of the land is due to high
- 5:18concentrations of poisonous gases that
- 5:21arise from the volcano.
- 5:23A mix of hydrogen sulfide, carbon
- 5:25dioxide, and sulfur dioxide kill living
- 5:27creatures within minutes, whilst also
- 5:29preserving dead animals' bodies for
- 5:31years.
- 5:32[music]
- 5:32As the deadly gases accumulate
- 5:33throughout the animals' bodies, it
- 5:35prevents the bacteria responsible for
- 5:37decomposition to complete its action.
- 5:39That's why animal bodies were seen
- 5:41scattered around the land. As one might
- 5:43expect, the Valley of Death is closed
- 5:44for visitors. [music]
- 5:46The only way to sneak a peek of the land
- 5:47is through a helicopter tour, which cost
- 5:49a hefty $700.

- 5:57to Top 5s with notifications on.
- 6:00[music]
- 6:01Number eight, Madidi National Park,
- 6:03Bolivia.
- 6:05At first glance, this incredible land
- 6:06looks straight [music] out of a fairy
- 6:08tale, but this picturesque park is
- 6:10extremely dangerous in real life.
- 6:12Madidi National Park, located in
- 6:14Bolivia, is the home to the most
- 6:16poisonous and venomous fauna in the
- 6:18world. A simple touch, cut, or a wound
- 6:21can become infected with tropical
- 6:22parasites that cause dizziness and even
- 6:24death.
- 6:25And while this land is undoubtedly very
- 6:27dangerous and hazardous, it doesn't stop
- 6:29tourists and travelers from making a
- 6:31quick trip down to the Madidi National
- 6:33Park. The mesmerizing Bolivian park is
- 6:35home to some of the most majestic
- 6:37creatures known to man. From [music]
- 6:39exotic animals to unique fauna, Madidi
- 6:41Park is filled with surprises and
- 6:43wonders. From jaguars, otters to crested
- 6:46[music] eagles and hummingbirds, the
- 6:47park has over 1,100 different animal and
- 6:50bird species.
- 6:51But when it comes to the real danger a
- 6:53human can face, one must always remember
- 6:55that this gorgeous and green park houses
- 6:57some of the most toxic [music] and
- 6:58poisonous fauna in the world.
- 7:01Extremely deadly parasites await as a
- 7:03cut or wound is detected on a human. And
- 7:05when the perfect time arises, it hits
- 7:07the immune system and causes sudden
- 7:09death.
- 7:10Madidi National Park, as breathtaking
- 7:12[music] and beautiful as it may be, is
- 7:14known for its venomous spiders, snakes,
- 7:16and poisonous plants. So, if you're
- 7:18thinking about visiting this exotic
- 7:19land, make sure you stay safe and follow
- 7:22the guide rules carefully.
- 7:24Naica Crystal Cave, Mexico.
- 7:27The Naica Crystal Cave in Mexico is so
- 7:29mysterious and unexplored that National
- 7:31Geographic shot an hour-long documentary
- 7:34showcasing the dangers and wonders of
- 7:36the Crystal Cave.
- 7:37Three scientists [music] geared up for a
- 7:39deep exploration trip as they visited
- 7:41Naica's mountains infamous cave.
- 7:44Located in the Chihuahuan desert, this
- 7:46mountain is home to the biggest crystals
- 7:47in the world. As hot magma [music] lurks
- 7:50below the cave, this Mexican destination
- 7:52is a heatstroke accident waiting to
- 7:54happen.
- 7:55The three scientists [music] sent for an
- 7:56impossible mission had different goals
- 7:58in mind. Their main objective was to
- 8:00collect the crystal [music] samples and
- 8:01to later observe them. There are these
- 8:03crystals the size of redwood trees. You
- 8:05stand there with your mouth wide open,
- 8:08said Chris McKay, a planetary scientist.
- 8:10[music]
- 8:10Exciting and life-changing as this
- 8:12adventure might have been, one must
- 8:14remember that as soon as a person walks
- 8:16into the cave, their body starts [music]
- 8:18to die.
- 8:19With incredibly high temperatures and
- 8:21unbearable humidity, the only way to
- 8:23approach such a cave was by using
- 8:25protective suits. But even with the
- 8:26appropriate attire, the scientists
- 8:28[music] only have about a half hour to
- 8:29collect their samples and get out alive.
- 8:32George Kourounis, a well-known
- 8:34adventurer and documentary expert, was
- 8:36given the green light to spend only one
- 8:37day at the notorious crystal cave. It
- 8:40took the explorer 2 years to finally
- 8:42[music] get the permission needed. But
- 8:43according to the daredevil, it was worth
- 8:45the wait. It looks like Superman's
- 8:47fortress of solitude, [music]
- 8:48says George.
- 8:50As far as the hot temperature goes, even
- 8:51George vouched for the cave's unbearable
- 8:53heat, commenting, [music]
- 8:55"As soon as you walk in, you start to
- 8:56die."
- 8:58Number five, Kawah Ijen volcano,
- 9:01Indonesia.
- 9:03Seeing the breathtaking and mesmerizing
- 9:04[music]
- 9:05blue lava-like rivers of light might
- 9:07seem like a futuristic movie scene. But
- 9:09in reality, it's extremely poisonous
- 9:12Kawah Ijen [music] lake. A stunning
- 9:14turquoise lake sits at the peak of Kawah
- 9:16Ijen volcano, and at night, electric
- 9:18[music] blue flames can be seen rolling
- 9:20down the mountainsides.
- 9:22The absolutely jaw-dropping lake is full
- 9:24of hydrochloric acid, which is more
- 9:26corrosive than battery acid. The
- 9:28hydrogen chloride gas spewing from the
- 9:30volcano collides with sulfur-containing
- 9:32gases
- 9:33[music]
- 9:33and creates a powerful chemical that is
- 9:34unimaginably corrosive.
- 9:37The Greek-Canadian explorer, George
- 9:39Kourounis, once again had the
- 9:40opportunity to explore one of the
- 9:42world's most dangerous places.
- 9:44The adventurer took a small rubber boat
- 9:46out into the acid lake to measure its
- 9:48acidity. [music] This is just a toxic
- 9:49lake of sulfuric acid. What could
- 9:50possibly go wrong?
- 9:52The pH of the water was measured to be
- 9:54as low as 0.13. But, even though this
- 9:57volcano and lake are clearly dangerous
- 9:59and deadly to humans, miners still risk
- 10:02their lives to collect the accumulated
- 10:04sulfur.
- 10:05George had watched hard at work and
- 10:07recalls how the only protection they had
- 10:09was a wet rag stuffed into their mouth.
- 10:12The sulfur dioxide gas would still leak
- 10:14through and dissolve away their front
- 10:15teeth. Beautiful as it may seem, the
- 10:18Kawah Ijen volcano and lake is one of
- 10:20the most dangerous places on Earth.
- 10:23Number four, Mount Washington, New
- 10:25Hampshire, United States.
- 10:28It's a widely known fact that Mount
- 10:30Everest is not only the tallest mountain
- 10:32in the world, but is also the most
- 10:33dangerous mountain on Earth. And while
- 10:35no other great summit can come close to
- 10:37the incredible height and complexity of
- 10:39Mount Everest,
- 10:40there's one other mountain in the world
- 10:42that holds a substantial title.
- 10:44Known as the most dangerous small
- 10:46mountain in the world, Mount Washington
- 10:48in New Hampshire is any hiker's worst
- 10:50nightmare.
- 10:51But, what exactly makes this peak so
- 10:53hazardous? It's clearly not the height,
- 10:56but the wind.
- 10:58In April 1934, the highest ever wind
- 11:00velocity of 231 mph was recorded on
- 11:04Mount Washington. Even at wind speeds of
- 11:0660 mph, hiking becomes nearly
- 11:08impossible. Powerful blowing winds and
- 11:11cold weather combine to intensify
- 11:13hypothermia. Freezing temperatures that
- 11:15drop to -40°
- 11:16and continuous heavy snowfalls make
- 11:19Mount Washington a truly dangerous place
- 11:21to visit. Daredevil hikers who see this
- 11:23mountain as a beatable obstacle do heavy
- 11:26research before starting their
- 11:27unforgettable journey.
- 11:29Meticulous calculations have to be made
- 11:31in order to begin the adventure with
- 11:33appropriate weather. With over 150
- 11:35recorded fatalities since 1849, it's
- 11:38paramount to embark on such an adventure
- 11:41extremely prepared and organized.
- 11:45Number three, Lake [music] Nyos,
- 11:46Cameroon.
- 11:48The silent but deadly Lake Nyos turned
- 11:51out to be much more dangerous than
- 11:52scientists [music] first assumed.
- 11:54Lake Nyos, located in Cameroon, Central
- 11:56Africa, seemed like an innocent
- 11:58beautiful lake surrounded by small
- 12:00villages.
- 12:01At first glance, no one could expect
- 12:03this quiet blue and picturesque lake to
- 12:05be more than just a pool of water, but
- 12:07the narrative changed on one fateful
- 12:09August [music] night. In 1986, a tall
- 12:12fountain of water started spouting out
- 12:14of Lake Nyos. The fountain soon released
- 12:16a white cloud of gas, which grew bigger
- 12:18by the minute. It reached 300 ft in
- 12:20height and [music] spread over the
- 12:22nearby villages.
- 12:24Residents soon started to lose
- 12:25consciousness and collapse on the
- 12:26ground.
- 12:27[music]
- 12:27The gas turned out to be carbon dioxide.
- 12:29At concentrations greater than 15%,
- 12:32carbon dioxide can be lethal. And on
- 12:34that August night, more than 1,700
- 12:36villagers died on the spot.
- 12:39CO2 can be kept under lakes and
- 12:41surrounding rocks for decades. When a
- 12:43volcano erupts, it emits dangerously
- 12:45high amounts of carbon dioxide. This
- 12:47compound has the ability to pass through
- 12:49rocks and slowly dissolve in the
- 12:50groundwater. If this event takes place
- 12:52near a lake, carbon dioxide eventually
- 12:55saturates the water, leaving it to be
- 12:57extremely dangerous and hazardous.
- 12:59Although most cases of dissolved
- 13:01underwater carbon dioxide overturn,
- 13:03reach the surface, and eventually
- 13:04dissolve in the atmosphere, this didn't
- 13:07happen to Lake Nyos.
- 13:08Poisonous gas remained trapped until
- 13:10something triggered its release and
- 13:12resulted in over 1,700 deaths.
- 13:16Number two, Fraser Island, Australia.
- 13:19A fun way to spend a hot summer day is
- 13:21to pack your suitcase and head to the
- 13:22beach. Everyone enjoys a refreshing
- 13:24entertaining time at the beach, swimming
- 13:27and tanning alongside your friends and
- 13:28family.
- 13:29But one beach that's categorically
- 13:31forbidden is located on Fraser Island.
- 13:34Just off the southeastern coast of
- 13:36Queensland, Australia, stands a
- 13:38beautifully mesmerizing beach. But
- 13:40unlike your local shores, Fraser Island
- 13:42is the number one most dangerous beach
- 13:44in the world. Every aspect of the beach
- 13:47is unsafe and extremely hazardous. From
- 13:49the ocean water and beach sand to the
- 13:51animals and water species that inhabit
- 13:53this land. No part of Fraser Island is
- 13:55considered to be bearable for humans.
- 13:58Deep inside the ice cold waters live
- 14:00Irukandji jellyfish and bluebottles,
- 14:02[music] tentacle species with powerful
- 14:05stinging abilities.
- 14:06How can sand be dangerous, you may ask?
- 14:09As the sand in the lakes can't be seen,
- 14:10enthusiastic swimmers choose to go
- 14:12headfirst into the water without any
- 14:14hint of how shallow the water truly is.
- 14:17As far as animal inhabitants go, most
- 14:19have heard of the infamous Australian
- 14:21dog species, the dingoes.
- 14:23And unlike our human companions and
- 14:25loyal dogs, these species aren't as
- 14:27friendly to people as one might assume.
- 14:29They are wild, undomesticated predators
- 14:31that can attack anyone or anything that
- 14:33triggers aggression or irritation.
- 14:35As there are thousands of beaches across
- 14:37the world, there is no logical reason to
- 14:39visit Fraser Island without a death
- 14:41wish.
- 14:43Number one, Elephant Kingdom, Thailand.
- 14:47The Elephant Kingdom, located in
- 14:49Chonburi, Thailand, [music] is thought
- 14:50to be the world's most terrifying
- 14:52tourist attraction. While cities and
- 14:54towns all over the world offer beautiful
- 14:56scenery and historic castles, this
- 14:59particular tourist attraction offers
- 15:00something completely different. Even
- 15:02though the name Elephant Kingdom might
- 15:04make you think this famous [music]
- 15:05Thailand destination is stretched out
- 15:07land inhabited by elephants, in reality,
- 15:10it's something quite the opposite.
- 15:12Have you ever wanted to climb into a
- 15:14metal cage and feed reptiles? Well, the
- 15:17notorious Elephant Kingdom offers just
- 15:19that.
- 15:20Tourists from all over the world gather
- 15:22in Chonburi in the hopes of feeding live
- 15:2410-ft long crocodiles only separated by
- 15:27a metal cage that is kept afloat with
- 15:29plastic barrels. There is little to no
- 15:31barrier against the deadly reptiles.
- 15:34Tourists on board of the metal cages
- 15:36often don't realize that they themselves
- 15:38could end up being the crocodiles meals.
- 15:41The small caliber rafts were often
- 15:43broken down and [music] unsafe. The
- 15:45empty plastic barrels that held up the
- 15:46cage would often sink or move adding
- 15:49suspense to the already tense situation.
- 15:52When a tourist captured the now viral
- 15:54photo of tourists dangling food for the
- 15:56reptiles, [music] social media went
- 15:58berserk. The international outcry forced
- 16:00the Thai government and local police to
- 16:02finally step in and take proper [music]
- 16:04measures.
- 16:05This extremely dangerous and
- 16:06over-the-top park was finally shut down
- 16:09in 2016
- 16:10[music]
- 16:10on the counts of numerous safety
- 16:11hazards.
