  1. 0:15Hello and welcome back everyone to
  2. 0:16Unreal Engine 5 beginner's guide to
  3. 0:18building an environment. In the last
  4. 0:20lesson, we left it off by getting
  5. 0:21ourselves nice some nicer shapes within
  6. 0:23the bridge. Looking back at it though,
  7. 0:25we might want to make this bridge a
  8. 0:28little bit longer. Yeah, the overall
  9. 0:30shape just doesn't look quite as nice.
  10. 0:32So, what I'm going to do is the easiest
  11. 0:34way to fix that would be by grabbing
  12. 0:36these assets just like that. Making a
  13. 0:39duplicate all out of it, holding alt and
  14. 0:42dragging it out like so. And I think we
  15. 0:44can just expand it by three planks just
  16. 0:47like that. This one stands out a little
  17. 0:49bit too much. So, I'm just going to drag
  18. 0:51uh select this, drag it around like so,
  19. 0:54and lower it down just like we did
  20. 0:56previously. Just like that. But I think
  21. 0:58that's going to be fine. And now, as for
  22. 0:59these ones, we're going to select them.
  23. 1:01Actually, bring them out like so because
  24. 1:04we kind of squished them back down when
  25. 1:07we had them previously. So, we're now
  26. 1:09able to select them all and stretch them
  27. 1:12out just a little bit like so. So, this
  28. 1:15way we're able to play around with the
  29. 1:16overall shape. Now, we have a better
  30. 1:18understanding on how the props are
  31. 1:20interacting with the environment. It's
  32. 1:22going to give us a better understanding
  33. 1:24on overall design of our level. So
  34. 1:27because of it, we're now now able to
  35. 1:30make better judgment on how they're
  36. 1:32going to look like with one another. So
  37. 1:33I think that's going to look quite nice.
  38. 1:36These ones might be touching a little
  39. 1:38bit too much. So I'm just going to lower
  40. 1:40this down and stick it to the side. We
  41. 1:43might need to Yeah, we might need to
  42. 1:45turn off the snapping grid tool. So I'm
  43. 1:47going to actually go ahead and do that,
  44. 1:49especially for the scaling because I
  45. 1:51want to have more control over it. And
  46. 1:52now with this, we're now going to have
  47. 1:55much nicer results overall. So I think
  48. 1:58by doing just that, I think that's going
  49. 1:59to be quite all right. We can leave it
  50. 2:02as is. And yeah, that's this way. The
  51. 2:05bridge I think is going to look much
  52. 2:06nicer. The pattern, the extending
  53. 2:08pattern that goes outwards is going to
  54. 2:10look much nicer. And because of it, we
  55. 2:12can now go ahead and select these bits
  56. 2:15over here and drag them to the side.
  57. 2:17Just like that. And that'll give us a
  58. 2:20nicer silhouette. And of course, we need
  59. 2:22to make sure we have foundation
  60. 2:24underneath as well. So, let's go ahead
  61. 2:26and grab these ones at the very front
  62. 2:29like so. And put it all the way to the
  63. 2:32front. Just like that. And I think the
  64. 2:34ones that we had over here are going to
  65. 2:36go right in the middle. And we can
  66. 2:39probably grab these ones and kind of
  67. 2:42shove them to have a same or a similar
  68. 2:44gap to the ones we have at the front.
  69. 2:47And because of it, if we look at it from
  70. 2:49the side, it's going to give us a much
  71. 2:51better look to the overall look of a
  72. 2:53bridge. So I think that's all in all is
  73. 2:56going to look much nicer. So yeah, by
  74. 2:58just doing that, we're able to make
  75. 3:01couple of adjustments that helps us to
  76. 3:03change the shape or adjust the shape in
  77. 3:06the way that we want. And of course, we
  78. 3:08got to make sure that the bottom pieces
  79. 3:11are also fixed it up. We fixed them up a
  80. 3:13little bit as well. So, let's go grab
  81. 3:15them and click R. Oh, let's make sure we
  82. 3:19grab both of them like so. Then click R
  83. 3:23and extend them just like that. Or we're
  84. 3:27just going to bring them to the front
  85. 3:30like this. And yeah, I think this is
  86. 3:32going to work quite well. And of course,
  87. 3:36before we forget, we also need to have
  88. 3:38some planks on this end as well. I'm
  89. 3:40actually just going to grab one plank. I
  90. 3:43think that's going to be fine. and just
  91. 3:44bring it to the front section over here.
  92. 3:47So, going to hold alt, make a duplicate
  93. 3:50out of the one plank underneath, and
  94. 3:52just put it to the side 90°. Bringing it
  95. 3:55back like so. Of course, we want to
  96. 3:58lower this down all the way down like
  97. 3:59so.
  98. 4:01And then simply bring it to the back
  99. 4:04just like that. I think that's going to
  100. 4:06look quite nice. Of course, we're going
  101. 4:09to click R, stretch it out a little bit
  102. 4:12like so.
  103. 4:14And this is going to make it look quite
  104. 4:17nice all in all as a part of a bridge.
  105. 4:21Just like that. And there we go. And I
  106. 4:25think we're going to finish off this
  107. 4:26lesson by getting a couple of props in.
  108. 4:28And so let's go back onto the 3D assets
  109. 4:31folder. And we're just going to pile up
  110. 4:33couple of ropes within this area. So
  111. 4:36we're going to get ourselves the hanging
  112. 4:38rope, which we're going to just drag it
  113. 4:40into our world like so. Just going to
  114. 4:42bring it up. And it's actually quite
  115. 4:44small. We're going to adjust the scale
  116. 4:46in a bit though. We're going to actually
  117. 4:47go back and get another version of the
  118. 4:49rope that we had previously. And so we
  119. 4:52basically have a couple of versions of a
  120. 4:54rope. By default, they're they are
  121. 4:56actually quite small. So let's go ahead
  122. 4:57and fix that up right away. So we're
  123. 5:00going to grab both of them and we're
  124. 5:02going to change the scale. So since we
  125. 5:04have the scale
  126. 5:06locked up, we can now change the scale
  127. 5:10to be something like four for example.
  128. 5:11Let's see how this looks. And I think
  129. 5:13this is going to look quite nice. Maybe
  130. 5:15set it to three as it might be a little
  131. 5:17bit too big. I think this is much
  132. 5:19better. We can now go ahead and select
  133. 5:21this rope, the one that is piled up on
  134. 5:24the ground, and just put it in the way
  135. 5:26that's going to help us get a really
  136. 5:29nice kind of a look. I think we can just
  137. 5:31set it up at the very front like so. And
  138. 5:33in return, it's just going to give us a
  139. 5:36nice sort of a design for this overall
  140. 5:39area. You might want to bring it a
  141. 5:42little bit to the back like so. And I
  142. 5:45think Yeah. Okay. Let's go ahead and
  143. 5:47actually make them a little bit smaller.
  144. 5:49Maybe it's a little bit too big in
  145. 5:51regards to that. If we try setting them
  146. 5:53to two
  147. 5:55and we're going to get this sort of
  148. 5:56result. Maybe it's just a little bit
  149. 5:58better. The reason we want to make sure
  150. 6:01we scale both of them at the same time
  151. 6:02is because they're actually the same
  152. 6:05type of a rope and we want to make sure
  153. 6:07we keep consistent kind of a look with
  154. 6:09regards to how thick a rope is. So I
  155. 6:12think instead of two we can change it to
  156. 6:142.5 and let's see how this looks
  157. 6:16instead. And actually yeah 2.5 I think
  158. 6:19is the right kind of a choice. It gives
  159. 6:21us just the right kind of a result. And
  160. 6:24although we also have some rope on the
  161. 6:26side of these ends, this can be used uh
  162. 6:30seen as a different type of rope. So I
  163. 6:31think that's totally okay. We just got
  164. 6:33to position it in a way that the rope is
  165. 6:35kind of breaking off the edge pattern of
  166. 6:38this entire bridge. I think that's going
  167. 6:39to be quite nice. Now, as for this rope,
  168. 6:42what we can do is actually we can stick
  169. 6:43it to the side of our bridge. And this
  170. 6:45is going to look quite nice. So for
  171. 6:48example, if we set it to 90°, this is
  172. 6:51going to look quite nice. And if we
  173. 6:53rotate this just a little bit, like
  174. 6:56let's say we select it, have it rotated
  175. 7:00by, let's say, 20°. I think that's going
  176. 7:02to look quite nice. And we can put it in
  177. 7:05this kind of a position. It's going to
  178. 7:08give us a really, really nice result.
  179. 7:10So, we're just going to make sure we
  180. 7:11position it right. And I'm actually
  181. 7:13going to make use out of this plank over
  182. 7:16here to make it look like it's going
  183. 7:18over it.
  184. 7:19And I will turn off the grid just so we
  185. 7:22could have it positioned just a little
  186. 7:24bit to the side like so. And just like
  187. 7:26that, we're able to get some real nice
  188. 7:28results out of this rope. So although I
  189. 7:31can see that the rope is going inwards
  190. 7:33because this is the end of the rope is
  191. 7:34actually okay to have it like so. But
  192. 7:38actually we can make use out of this end
  193. 7:40and kind of make it look like it's being
  194. 7:43covered up by this area over here. I
  195. 7:45think this is going to look quite nice.
  196. 7:47or even because although the gravity is
  197. 7:49not going to make it look quite nice for
  198. 7:50this end, we can actually make use out
  199. 7:52of this and just kind of rotate it like
  200. 7:54so. And we're not going to see the
  201. 7:57bottom of this. So, we don't have to
  202. 7:58worry about that end of the rope. So, if
  203. 8:01we put it like this and set this up, the
  204. 8:04pole to be positioned right in the
  205. 8:07middle of where our rope is, it's going
  206. 8:09to look like it's hanging from the side
  207. 8:12of this end. And we might even get away
  208. 8:15with just taking it like this. Maybe
  209. 8:19it's a little bit too much. Let's go
  210. 8:20ahead and grab this back and put it
  211. 8:23slightly to the back like so. And
  212. 8:25actually, I'm just going to rotate this
  213. 8:27180° like so because this way we're
  214. 8:30going to have a shorter end of the rope.
  215. 8:32I think that's going to look much nicer
  216. 8:33in turn. And yeah, this is looking
  217. 8:36pretty nice as is. And we're still going
  218. 8:40to have a nice pattern for this type of
  219. 8:42bridge. I think that's going to look
  220. 8:44quite nice. So yeah, let's go ahead and
  221. 8:47keep this as is. Or actually, because
  222. 8:50we're making use out of this end, we
  223. 8:52might just grab both of these and put it
  224. 8:55on the side on the very side like so.
  225. 8:59And because I want this end of the rope
  226. 9:01to be going in the other way to make
  227. 9:04sure that the it is being supported by
  228. 9:06this log. What we can do is we can click
  229. 9:09R with it selected of course and then we
  230. 9:12can just flip this entire scale to be in
  231. 9:15the negative values and this will just
  232. 9:17flip the rope kind of mirror effect and
  233. 9:21get us this sort of result. So I think
  234. 9:23this is going to look quite nice. So
  235. 9:26yeah, we can keep this as is actually.
  236. 9:28And now looking at it from a distance,
  237. 9:30it's going to give us some really nice
  238. 9:32results in regards to how it's being
  239. 9:34broken apart. And yeah, just like that,
  240. 9:36we're able to get some nice props within
  241. 9:39our scene and just break apart some of
  242. 9:41that repetitive sort of sort of a
  243. 9:44pattern for our bridge. In order to
  244. 9:46break up the pattern even more though,
  245. 9:48we can actually adjust some of these um
  246. 9:52planks a little bit and get some
  247. 9:53different gaps, some different widths in
  248. 9:55between those areas. So, just by moving
  249. 9:57these around just a little bit, like so,
  250. 9:59for example, we're able to get some
  251. 10:01really nice results. So, in general, we
  252. 10:05just randomly kind of shove them around
  253. 10:07and we're getting some different kind of
  254. 10:09patterns out of them. And in turn, we're
  255. 10:11able to get some more organic shape out
  256. 10:14of this entire bridge. So, I'm just
  257. 10:15going to click shift and G to undo this
  258. 10:18entire bit
  259. 10:20like so. And now we're going to be able
  260. 10:23to select each one of them individually
  261. 10:25and play around a little bit with the
  262. 10:27overall design for these planks. So,
  263. 10:30just like that, we're able to get some
  264. 10:32nice gaps in between. All in all,
  265. 10:35they're going to look quite nice. So,
  266. 10:38just by looking at it from a distance,
  267. 10:40you can see the different variations in
  268. 10:43those gaps. And all in all, the pattern
  269. 10:45is going to look a lot more organic than
  270. 10:47it did before. So yeah, I think we're
  271. 10:49pretty much done with the bridge. We now
  272. 10:50need to make some adjustments with the
  273. 10:52textures themselves, with how the colors
  274. 10:54are looking for our bridge. But we're
  275. 10:57going to do that in the next lesson. So
  276. 10:58thank you so much for watching and I'll
  277. 11:00see you in a bit.
