- 0:15>> Hello and welcome back everyone to
- 0:16Unreal Engine 5 beginners guide to
- 0:18building an environment. In the last
- 0:20lesson we left it off by setting all of
- 0:22the planks
- 0:23to be using Nanite and in this lesson
- 0:25we're actually going to make use out of
- 0:27them and set them up within our bridge.
- 0:30So already we have a nice variation for
- 0:33a pattern and all we have to do right
- 0:35now is set them up within this area over
- 0:38here. And actually the easiest way to
- 0:40get a control over them is to group them
- 0:42up first. So with all of them selected,
- 0:44with all of these planks, what we're
- 0:46going to do is we're going to click
- 0:47control G, which groups them all up and
- 0:50now even if we unclick them and click on
- 0:53one of them, all of them are going to be
- 0:54selected all at once. It creates us a
- 0:57group actor on the right side on our
- 1:00outliner. That just basically whenever
- 1:02we select one of them, it selects all of
- 1:04them at once. And that's quite nice. And
- 1:06I'm just going to click G to go out of
- 1:08my game view mode and we can see that we
- 1:10even get ourselves a green border that
- 1:12shows the entire selection for within
- 1:14this group, which is quite nice
- 1:16actually. And then anyways, once we have
- 1:19this selected, we're now going to be
- 1:20able to drag this out
- 1:22like so and just put it to the side of
- 1:25our edge.
- 1:27Just going to rotate it as well.
- 1:2990 degrees just like that
- 1:32and just put it
- 1:34to exactly where we wanted it to be. So
- 1:36going to place it all the way to this
- 1:39area over here. And now since we're
- 1:41having it like this, we can actually see
- 1:45how it's going to look like and
- 1:47I see that it's going to not look as
- 1:50wide. So what I'm going to do is I'm
- 1:51going to click R and scale this up to
- 1:54the side. Just like that. So this way
- 1:57we're going to be able to touch the edge
- 1:59of this terrain as well as just get some
- 2:01of the planks to be touching this area
- 2:03over here. So, that's quite important,
- 2:05and I can also see that we're not having
- 2:07enough pattern to be covering this
- 2:10entire bridge. So, what I'm going to do
- 2:11is actually I'm going to ungroup this
- 2:13entire plank area. So, with this
- 2:15selected, I'm going to click Shift G to
- 2:18make sure I remove the group that area.
- 2:20So, now I can select the planks
- 2:22individually. And so, I think I'm going
- 2:25to grab just a couple of them from the
- 2:27back like so. And
- 2:29actually three of them, and then hold
- 2:31Alt, which if we use the translation
- 2:34tool,
- 2:35we're going to be able to put it to the
- 2:37side, and it'll just duplicate our
- 2:39assets, which is quite nice. And
- 2:41actually, we just needed two of them.
- 2:43So, I'm just going to delete one of them
- 2:45like so, and it's going to give us a
- 2:47really nice type of result for the shape
- 2:49of the bridge. Now, I think we just need
- 2:51to lower it down a little bit. So, I'm
- 2:53going to do that as well. Going to
- 2:55select all of them just like I did
- 2:57previously,
- 2:58one by one like so. And actually, going
- 3:01to click Ctrl G to make sure that
- 3:02they're grouped up. So, the next time
- 3:04we're going to be able to select the
- 3:05entire mesh like so, which is going to
- 3:07be quite simple. And then afterwards,
- 3:09I'm just going to drag it down so that
- 3:11it'd be like right in the middle.
- 3:13And that's actually going to look quite
- 3:14nice. Just going to delete the base that
- 3:16we had previously, and it's already
- 3:18giving us a really nice shape. Now, for
- 3:20this section,
- 3:21we're actually going to make use out of
- 3:23the platform that we had. We're going to
- 3:25duplicate it, so we're holding Alt, and
- 3:27then dragging it upwards, which is going
- 3:29to make us a nice duplicate. Then
- 3:31clicking E to rotate it. Since we had a
- 3:33snapping mode turned on, we're going to
- 3:35rotate it
- 3:36in a nice 90° kind of a way.
- 3:39There you go.
- 3:41And now, we're just going to click W and
- 3:43put it to the side.
- 3:45And we're going to position it right
- 3:47above the upper planks that we had. So,
- 3:49we're just going to lower this all down.
- 3:52And for now, we don't have to worry
- 3:54about the length going this way. We're
- 3:55just worrying about this plank going on
- 3:58the same kind of a length as we had the
- 4:00gray box done.
- 4:02Make sure we have it aligned.
- 4:05Maybe just a little bit sticking up like
- 4:06so, so we can now delete this entire
- 4:08section just like that. And now we're
- 4:10left with this kind of a pattern that
- 4:12we're going to make use out of. And of
- 4:15course, it's going to be too long, so
- 4:16we're going to click and undo our
- 4:18ungroup selection by clicking shift and
- 4:22G.
- 4:23And once we do that, we're going to
- 4:24select individual planks that are
- 4:26overlaying this area, and simply delete
- 4:28them just like that. So, we're going to
- 4:30be left with this kind of result, which
- 4:32is going to be quite nice.
- 4:34Now, of course, this is not going to be
- 4:35done just quite yet. We need to make
- 4:38sure we have some additional
- 4:40information, additional detail for these
- 4:42upper sections of the planks. So, we're
- 4:45going to make use out of those three
- 4:47variations of the wood chunks that we
- 4:50had previously. And actually, we're
- 4:51going to make sure we make them all
- 4:53longer just a little bit more. So, we're
- 4:55actually just going to select all of
- 4:57them like so, each one of them, and then
- 5:00we're going to extend them just by a
- 5:02little bit.
- 5:03So,
- 5:04I'm thinking that maybe we can get away
- 5:07with this amount.
- 5:08It might be a little bit too much.
- 5:11I think that's going to be quite all
- 5:12right. Looking from a distance, it's
- 5:15actually going to look quite nice. Okay,
- 5:17so now that we have it like so, we're
- 5:18actually going to to set them all up
- 5:21nicely with one another,
- 5:23and make sure that there's no
- 5:25too big of a gap in between them.
- 5:28You're going to want to leave a bit of a
- 5:29gap, so that way we'll break up the
- 5:31entire shape. And I think just having it
- 5:33like so is actually going to be looking
- 5:35quite nice.
- 5:37And also, let's not forget to add this
- 5:39bit as well. This will just break up the
- 5:42entire shape. We're going to rotate this
- 5:44actually 180°.
- 5:47We'll flip it around, and put it to this
- 5:49side like so. So, this way we're
- 5:50actually breaking off the entire shape.
- 5:52As you can see, we have a really nice
- 5:54way to show off the end of this log over
- 5:57here. And that way we're just getting a
- 5:59really nice overall result. And actually
- 6:02for this bit, we can even just kind of
- 6:05rotate it a little bit. We can turn off
- 6:07the snapping mode like so just by a
- 6:09little bit and have it slightly rotated
- 6:11sideways. This way we're not going to
- 6:13have an entirely straight piece of wood.
- 6:16And that's I think it's going to look
- 6:18much nicer. So, now we're going to just
- 6:20make sure we grab them all, click
- 6:23control G and group them all up
- 6:24together, and that's going to give us a
- 6:26nice kind of a group type section of
- 6:28those chunks. And now we're just going
- 6:30to drag it all the way to the other end
- 6:32like so and position them accordingly.
- 6:35So, we want to make sure we're having
- 6:37them positioned to be sat on top of this
- 6:40area over here.
- 6:42And actually we might even want to make
- 6:44them a little bit smaller.
- 6:46I'm just going to lower this height
- 6:48completely like so.
- 6:50And just going to make sure that this
- 6:53ends
- 6:54a little bit
- 6:55to the back of our log. Just like that.
- 6:59So, already we are getting a really nice
- 7:01shape out of it. Although the color
- 7:03right now doesn't look quite as nice,
- 7:04we're going to be fixing that up in a
- 7:06second. So, for now though, I think it's
- 7:08going to look quite all right. We're
- 7:10just going to now make sure this is done
- 7:12on the same end as well.
- 7:14Or actually
- 7:16we might even lower this down by a
- 7:17little bit
- 7:19just to get a nicer result. So, I'm
- 7:20going to go ahead and do that.
- 7:22Just lowering this down just like that.
- 7:25So, it doesn't stick out too much.
- 7:28Of course, in the gaps we're going to
- 7:29see them that they're overlapping, but
- 7:32all in all from a distance
- 7:34not closing in too much, it's going to
- 7:36look much nicer as a result. And I think
- 7:39that's going to be looking much better.
- 7:42So, okay. Now that we have it like so,
- 7:43we're going to make sure we put it on
- 7:45the other end as well. So, holding alt,
- 7:47going to click and hold and then drag it
- 7:48to the side like so. Then click E to get
- 7:51it rotated and just going to Let's make
- 7:54sure we have the rotation snap enabled.
- 7:58And now we're going to rotate it 180°
- 8:00just like that and we're going to in
- 8:02turn get a completely different result.
- 8:04Or even we might want to just rotate
- 8:07this entirely by 180° because we had a
- 8:10different slight different shape over
- 8:12here. But I'm just going to break up
- 8:14entire set.
- 8:17And just like that we're able to get
- 8:18some real nice results. Of course, we're
- 8:19not quite done just yet. We need to set
- 8:21the same thing up over here on this end.
- 8:24So, we're going to grab Actually, we can
- 8:25grab both of them at once, hold alt, and
- 8:28duplicate it. Then position them to be
- 8:31somewhat in the middle, rotate them by
- 8:3290° like so,
- 8:35and then move it a little bit to the
- 8:37side just like that.
- 8:39So, just by doing these simple steps
- 8:41we're able to get some real nice
- 8:42results. And of course, we don't have
- 8:46quite good looking edge on this end. So,
- 8:49we're going to need to fix that first.
- 8:52And I think the way we're going to do it
- 8:53is going to be quite simple. We're
- 8:55actually just going to select both of
- 8:57them, click shift and G. Since both of
- 8:59them is selected, both of them are going
- 9:00to get removed from the group so I can
- 9:02select individual pieces. So, we're
- 9:04going to end up deleting these pieces.
- 9:06And as for these chunks,
- 9:08I'm thinking we can just
- 9:09grab each one of them and kind of squish
- 9:12them back down like so. I think that's
- 9:14going to work quite nicely.
- 9:16Just trying to think whether it would
- 9:18look nicer if we have the board
- 9:20overlapping with this end.
- 9:22And I'm just going to move back just to
- 9:23see how it's going to look like if we
- 9:25had it done like in this section like
- 9:27so.
- 9:28And this might actually look better.
- 9:30Yeah, I think it's going to look way
- 9:32better like this. So, let's go ahead and
- 9:33make sure we squished it down
- 9:35just enough so we get the end to be
- 9:38sticking to this side like so. And let's
- 9:41just make sure
- 9:42we're getting it in the right kind of
- 9:44way.
- 9:45So, this is going to look really nice,
- 9:47actually. This is already looking pretty
- 9:49good. We just got to make sure we do the
- 9:51same on the other end as well.
- 9:53Just like that.
- 9:56Going to make sure squish it down a
- 9:57little bit more, pull it back to the
- 9:58side, and we're getting some real nice
- 10:00solid results already. So, just like
- 10:02that we're able to get some real nice
- 10:05look to our bridge.
- 10:06Now, what we can do now is is we need to
- 10:09set up the bottom bits as well. And
- 10:12we're actually going to continue on with
- 10:14this in the next lesson. So, thanks so
- 10:16much for watching, and I'll see you in a
- 10:18bit.
