- 0:06home look finished, polished, and 10
- 0:09times better. So, if you're looking for
- 0:11some ideas to spruce up your home and
- 0:13really make it look its best, this video
- 0:15is just for you. If you enjoy watching
- 0:16and find this video helpful, make sure
- 0:17you give it a big thumbs up and hit that
- 0:19like button. And I want to give a huge
- 0:20thank you to TaskRabbit for sponsoring
- 0:22today's video. Let's go ahead and jump
- 0:24right into it. When you have wood
- 0:25flooring in your home, it can be
- 0:26difficult to choose wood furniture
- 0:28pieces that are really going to
- 0:29complement that flooring [music] nicely.
- 0:31But one easy trick to do so is just
- 0:34simply doing the opposite of your
- 0:35flooring. So, if you have light wood
- 0:37floors, go with dark wood furniture
- 0:40pieces as accents. That's actually going
- 0:42to pull those darker knots out of your
- 0:44floor and complement the flooring really
- 0:46nicely. And it will also allow the
- 0:48flooring and the furniture pieces to
- 0:50stand out on their own. The same thing
- 0:52goes for dark [music] wood. Dark wood
- 0:55floors and dark wood furniture can
- 0:57actually be very overwhelming. It can
- 0:59really darken your entire home and make
- 1:01it feel very heavy. So, to lighten the
- 1:03space without redoing your floors, go
- 1:05for light tone furniture where you can
- 1:08to really accent your flooring nicely.
- 1:10Again, [music] this always works well
- 1:12when you stay within the same tones of
- 1:14wood. So, if you're going for warm tone
- 1:17woods, get warm tone furniture whether
- 1:19it be light or dark. If you have cool
- 1:21tone woods, again, work with those cool
- 1:23tones to really make every wood tone
- 1:25look perfect in your home. Now, this
- 1:26doesn't have to be every furniture
- 1:28piece, but it really works well main
- 1:30pieces that grab your attention. Maybe
- 1:32your dining table, your coffee table,
- 1:34dining chairs, any kind of chest or
- 1:37cabinet or sideboard. Bring in those
- 1:39accent wood tones with those wood
- 1:42pieces. Now, if you're trying to figure
- 1:43out the perfect styling for your bed,
- 1:45one designer trick is [music] always use
- 1:47euro pillows. Euro pillows are that 26
- 1:50by 26 size, a big [music] large square,
- 1:53and they work perfectly for styling your
- 1:55bed and really making it look finished
- 1:57and [music] polished. This is going to
- 1:59give you that designer look instantly
- 2:01and it's all about getting the correct
- 2:03amount of Euro pillows for your bed. So,
- 2:06if you have a king-size bed, go for
- 2:07three large Euro pillows across your
- 2:09bed. That's going to fill it out really
- 2:11nicely and give you that nice angled
- 2:12dynamic look. With a queen-size or
- 2:15full-size bed, you can definitely fit
- 2:17two Euro pillows across the bed for a
- 2:19really balanced look. And if you want to
- 2:21include Euro pillows on twin beds, that
- 2:23can also look really cute. Just include
- 2:25one single Euro pillow. Euro pillows
- 2:28always look designer because they have
- 2:30that large-scale to them, which really
- 2:32balances out the size of your bed. So,
- 2:34if you can't quite figure out what
- 2:35exactly is missing in your bed, it might
- 2:37be the Euro pillows. Now, every space
- 2:39that includes a TV should have a mounted
- 2:42TV. There's something about TV legs and
- 2:44the cords hanging out that just simply
- 2:46make your home look unfinished and not
- 2:49exactly designer. We've been meaning to
- 2:51mount our Frame TV up on top of our
- 2:53mantle for so long now. I think like a
- 2:56year or two. And it's always been a
- 2:59conversation in our house of when are we
- 3:00going to mount it? Oh, we'll do it this
- 3:02weekend and then we never get around to
- 3:04it. And now that we have a baby, we're
- 3:06just never getting around to it. So, I'm
- 3:08finally hiring a tasker on TaskRabbit to
- 3:11mount our Frame TV. I'm so excited.
- 3:13They're going to install the frame, hang
- 3:16it all up onto the mantle flush to the
- 3:18wall, and hide all of the cords so that
- 3:21it just looks seamless.
- 3:25TaskRabbit is an online marketplace that
- 3:26pairs people with local taskers to get
- 3:29tasks done. I'm always hiring taskers to
- 3:32get the jobs done around the house that
- 3:33I am not quite comfortable with or
- 3:36things that I know are going to take me
- 3:37a lot of time. Those are things that I'd
- 3:39rather hire out and TaskRabbit makes it
- 3:42so easy to do so. Wow, that made such a
- 3:44big difference. This is exactly how I
- 3:46wanted this whole built-in fireplace to
- 3:49look [music]
- 3:49with with Frame TV. Finally, it looks
- 3:52airy, complete, and so much more put
- 3:54together. I love the way this frame
- 3:56matches with the floor, and it's just
- 3:58mounted perfectly. So, the Tasker did
- 4:01such a good job of hiding all of the
- 4:03electrical and cords behind the wall and
- 4:06down the built-in. You really went the
- 4:08extra mile to make sure that it was
- 4:09perfect for us. So, I highly recommend
- 4:11checking out TaskRabbit if you have any
- 4:13unfinished jobs around your home. They
- 4:15can really help you just complete
- 4:16[music] those tasks that you don't have
- 4:18time for, that are just piling up in
- 4:20your home. Definitely check out
- 4:22TaskRabbit. I'll have the link to it
- 4:24down below in the description box, so
- 4:25you guys can complete all of those tasks
- 4:27around your home. Now, if you want to
- 4:28refresh your space drastically and make
- 4:30it look designer while using all of your
- 4:33existing furniture, try and work in a
- 4:36new furniture layout where you can float
- 4:37your furniture off of the walls. Having
- 4:39that space around your furniture is
- 4:42instantly going to give it a designer
- 4:43look, and trust me, it won't make your
- 4:45room feel small. This could simply be
- 4:47[music] bringing that chair off the wall
- 4:49in the corner, or bringing your sofa
- 4:51slightly off of the wall and having that
- 4:53small gap behind the sofa. This is going
- 4:55to create those shadows and that depth
- 4:57in your space, [music] and give your
- 4:58room space to breathe. This is going to
- 5:00add better circulation in your home.
- 5:02It's going to give you those designer
- 5:03moments you might be looking for, and
- 5:05give you a tidy, clean, and polished
- 5:08look. For the most part, this applies to
- 5:10seating, accent chairs, sofas, even
- 5:13[music] desks and tables. Bringing those
- 5:15pieces off of the wall so that you can
- 5:17sit in the middle of your space will
- 5:19make your home feel so much better. Now,
- 5:21if you have the space for it, I highly
- 5:23recommend including some kind of seating
- 5:25at the end of your bed by the footboard
- 5:28to really give yourself a finished,
- 5:30designer look. [music]
- 5:31This could be a simple bench, this could
- 5:33be an accent chair or two, a sofa, a
- 5:36chaise lounge. Having some kind of
- 5:38moment at the end of your bed there
- 5:40gives you a designer look instantly. I
- 5:42find that seating at the end of the bed
- 5:44just really gives you that relaxing
- 5:46moment. It allows you to use your
- 5:48bedroom a bit differently. If you
- 5:49haven't incorporated any kind of side
- 5:51seating or accent chair or any kind of
- 5:54soft seating in your bedroom, I highly
- 5:56recommend bringing it in. Again, this
- 5:58could be a small skinny bench if you
- 6:00don't have the space for it, but just
- 6:02having that horizontal line finishing
- 6:04off your bed gives you a designer look.
- 6:07Now, we always talk about the importance
- 6:08of layered lighting and having more than
- 6:10just the big light in your home to
- 6:12really create atmosphere, a designer
- 6:15look, and a calm environment in your
- 6:16home. But, creating levels to your
- 6:18lighting really matters as well. Mixing
- 6:20in low table lamps with high wall
- 6:22sconces or picture lights and bringing
- 6:25in a mid-size floor lamp will always do
- 6:27the trick to creating a very balanced
- 6:29look. It's very important to have those
- 6:31light sources be at different levels
- 6:33around your space. That's going to give
- 6:34you a nice full lighting effect, but
- 6:36also look very relaxing and calm to the
- 6:39eye. Having lighting coming out at
- 6:41different levels around your space, low,
- 6:43medium, and high, is what's going to
- 6:45give you that designer look that feels
- 6:47finished and intentional. So, when
- 6:48you're planning your accent lighting
- 6:49around your home, think about it all in
- 6:52levels so that you really get the full
- 6:54picture in your space. A small
- 6:55decorating detail that I love to add
- 6:57into any kind of styling is a riser. A
- 7:00little wood riser or metal riser for a
- 7:03candle or accent piece around your home
- 7:06will just make your styling look
- 7:08intentional instantly. It's a small
- 7:10little detail that you can thrift, buy
- 7:12brand new, or even create using stacked
- 7:15books. This is a great way to highlight
- 7:17specific pieces in your home and give
- 7:19you those designer triangles that you're
- 7:21trying to work in. You want a low,
- 7:23medium, and large piece while you're
- 7:25styling, and that medium is really easy
- 7:27to achieve if you include a riser.
- 7:29[music]
- 7:30It really helps bring those small items
- 7:32up, make them feel larger, and it's that
- 7:35one little touch that really makes your
- 7:37entire styling look professional. Now,
- 7:39if you want to give your home more
- 7:40detail and a more interesting look. When
- 7:43you're choosing wall art, go for wall
- 7:45art that has some kind of dimension to
- 7:47it. [music] That could be the frame of
- 7:49the wall art, that could be the matting
- 7:52that gives you that nice shadow and
- 7:53depth to your wall art, or it could be a
- 7:56three-dimensional piece that's a little
- 7:58bit more abstract and artistic to give
- 8:00you a very unique look. This is what's
- 8:02going to add interest to your room
- 8:04drastically. If you just have flat
- 8:06prints framed up around your home that
- 8:08don't have matting, maybe they're a very
- 8:10simple slim frame, it's just going to
- 8:12create a very flat look in your home.
- 8:14You really want to create dimension to
- 8:15your walls with your wall art. So, make
- 8:17sure that your wall art has layers to it
- 8:20and it creates shadows on your walls.
- 8:22That's actually really important to
- 8:23creating that dimensional look in your
- 8:25space so that your space doesn't run
- 8:27flat. Now, when choosing lamps for your
- 8:28bedside tables, you really want to
- 8:30consider the scale of your bed when
- 8:32choosing your lamp lighting.
- 8:34>> [music]
- 8:34>> If you have a larger headboard, you
- 8:36definitely want to go for a larger scale
- 8:38lamp on either side of your bed. That's
- 8:40really going to help bring that line up
- 8:41and balance the look of the back wall of
- 8:43your bedroom. You can also incorporate
- 8:46wall sconces. That's another thing
- 8:47that's going to help lift the eye and
- 8:49balance your headboard. If you have a
- 8:51low-profile bed, you definitely want to
- 8:52bring that lighting down as well and
- 8:54have smaller scale lamps on either side
- 8:57of the bed. If you have large lamps with
- 8:59a low-profile bed, the entire scale of
- 9:01your room is going to look off. So, go
- 9:03for something that really fits the size
- 9:04[music] of your bed. Give you a super
- 9:06balanced look that looks professionally
- 9:08designed. Now, if you have a blank
- 9:10corner in your space and you want it to
- 9:11look intentionally styled, incorporate
- 9:14something that has height. Bringing in
- 9:16height into a corner helps balance your
- 9:18space and it really helps soften the
- 9:20corners of your room. This can be done
- 9:22well with a large floor lamp, a tall
- 9:24plant, or even a pedestal vase and
- 9:27florals styled in a corner. [music]
- 9:29I love using corner styling like this as
- 9:31a trick to really soften a space and
- 9:33[music] bring in some more depth.
- 9:35Sometimes when you just have your
- 9:37furniture and then the bare corners of
- 9:39your space, things do kind of look like
- 9:41they're floating around. So, bringing in
- 9:43that intentional corner styling matters.
- 9:45It definitely takes your space from
- 9:47looking standard to designer and it
- 9:49always works if you bring in something
- 9:51with height. Never use something short
- 9:52in a corner cuz that's what's going to
- 9:54give you a cluttered kind of stuck
- 9:56feeling. Go with something with length
- 9:58to really accentuate the height of your
- 10:00space. All right, so that's it for
- 10:01today's video. I hope you enjoyed
- 10:03watching and I hope this gave you a
- 10:04better idea on ways that you can make
