- 0:02The glory of David and Solomon had passed, and the nation was split in two.
- 0:07Time flowed endlessly, and God
- 0:12grew increasingly faint in people's memories. Northern Israel, having worshipped the golden calf following the sin of Jeroboam,
- 0:16[music] was now sinking into deeper darkness
- 0:21. When Ahab, the son of Omri, became king, he
- 0:26took Jezebel, the princess of Sidon, as his wife. This is the story
- 0:31of a man who appeared from the rough land of Gilead, across the gently flowing Jordan River,
- 0:38in an era when temples of Baal were built in the land of God and Asherah images formed a forest, a time when the light of truth seemed to be fading
- 0:43.
- 0:47[Music]
- 1:09Your Majesty. Here is a report from the northern city.
- 1:14Read it. The words that the crops are still holding out but the rain continues to be delayed suggest that
- 1:21the sacrifice offered brightly [music] was not sufficient. Increase
- 1:27the offerings . Stop. Where is this place?
- 1:34Who are you? This is not a place just anyone can enter.
- 1:42I am a servant of the Lord, the God of Israel,
- 1:48and I have come to deliver the message that the Lord has sent to this land
- 1:54. "Jehovah, what nonsense are you talking about?
- 2:00Has anyone still called upon that name, Jehovah?
- 2:08Speak up. What have you come all this way to say?" "
- 2:14I swear by the living God of Israel whom I serve that
- 2:21neither rain nor rain will be forgotten for these years unless I speak." "
- 2:28You're going to stop the rain? What is all that talk about? Are you saying
- 2:32you will stop the rain in this land?"
- 2:36"Only Jehovah God will accomplish that." "
- 2:42I can't listen to you any longer. Get out of here."
- 2:51Not long after Elijah left Ahab's palace, [music] his words soon
- 2:54became reality. Mornings [music] where not even dew formed
- 2:59continued for a day or two, and the rain did not cease.
- 3:03The ground split open with persimmons, [music] and people slowly began to recall his words
- 3:08. This was not a coincidence, but the beginning of the proclaimed word
- 3:13. Enraged by this, King Ahab belatedly
- 3:17searched for Elijah to silence him, but he could not find him anywhere.
- 3:23[Music]
- 3:26“Elijah, leave here and go east,
- 3:31hide by the Brook Cherith, east of the Jordan, and drink water there. I
- 3:38will send ravens to bring you food.
- 3:53” “Lord, surely there is a reason you told me to come this far
- 3:58.” The drought did not spare even him.
- 4:04Elijah, too, had to face the very time he had prophesied. “The river
- 4:10has finally dried up completely.
- 4:16Lord, where must I go now?” “Arise and go to Zarevan.
- 4:27I have commanded a widow there to look after you.” “Zarvan?
- 4:32Isn’t that a place full of idolatry?
- 4:37Can I really survive there?”
- 4:44[Music] God did not explain any further to him
- 4:47. Instead, He demanded the next step.
- 4:54Elijah’s footsteps. This time, [Music] it was a step toward the world.
- 5:03It was a land he had never been to before.
- 5:07People who did not know the Lord. A city that served Baal.
- 5:14God had sent him there. “Is it that woman?
- 5:25Could you fetch just a measure of water for her to drink ?”
- 5:32Although he was a prophet, the words he had to speak to survive
- 5:37were not prophecies, but requests to get through the day. "
- 5:42I would appreciate it if you could bring me some food.
- 5:48I swear by the living God that I
- 5:54have not a single piece of bread left. There are only a few drops of oil in the jar.
- 6:00I intended to take this and eat everything that remains before my son and I die
- 6:06." God did not [music] send Elijah to a wealthy house
- 6:11. The person to care for him was a woman who had already lost everything
- 6:15. "Do not be afraid; go and
- 6:21do as I just said. Make food and bring it to me first.
- 6:27Then, prepare food for you and your son.
- 6:33Then the Lord,
- 6:39the God of Israel, Jehovah, has said that the flour in the jar will not run out and the oil in the jar will not dry up
- 6:45until the Lord sends rain upon this land again.
- 6:49" The prophet Elijah's words might have sounded brazen and
- 6:54strange, but the woman seemed to have made up her mind. "Then just
- 7:00follow me for now."
- 7:03[song] A request that seemed absurd. With
- 7:07the storehouses in her house emptying out, the woman, for whatever reason,
- 7:13followed the prophet's instructions.
- 7:23Lord, I earnestly desire to see God's work in this house. You say
- 7:33there is still flour left? The flour in the bin had not run out, and the oil in the jar
- 7:40had not dried up. It had happened just as
- 7:45God had spoken through Elijah .
- 7:51It was not as if the flour had piled up to overflow. Nor was the oil pooling on the floor.
- 7:57However, through the miracle of the daily required [music] amount being continuously replenished, the three people
- 8:02were able to continue their lives.
- 8:12Elijah, when is it today?
- 8:17Are you saying you will stake everything on yourself alone? You say you can move the heavens with a single word
- 8:24? Mom, my stomach hurts so much.
- 8:29If you are God, how can you do this to me? Ever since you came, I
- 8:35have been completely ruined. Elijah, where are you? What are you afraid of
- 8:42that you are hiding so tightly? Lord, where are you?
- 8:50I cannot go any further. Elijah, is it always? To stake everything.
- 8:57Elijah, if it hurts so much,
- 9:02how can you move the heavens like this? I am completely ruined
- 9:09. Lord, please help me. Lord, ah, Lord
- 9:17, ha [sigh] It was a dream
- 9:21. Elijah, Elijah, Elijah. Hey, what is wrong?
- 9:27Has something happened to your son? My son isn't breathing.
- 9:34He won't wake up even if I shake him. "What shall I do?"
- 9:39Shortly after witnessing the miracle of daily [music] provisions being replenished,
- 9:44the young son of the widow of Zarephath, the owner of the house, fell seriously ill. As the illness
- 9:50worsened, the son finally breathed his last.
- 9:55"Man of God, what do you have to do with me that you entered this house,
- 10:02reminded me of my sins, and caused my son to die?" [Music] "
- 10:10Let me take the child away for a moment.
- 10:21" "Lord, how can you speak to me?" He was the one who had promised life to this [music] house
- 10:27. But now, that promise seemed to have crumbled in his hands. "
- 10:33O Jehovah God, [music] why
- 10:38have you brought disaster upon this widow?
- 10:44Is it not you who allowed me to stay in this house and kept this child alive?
- 10:49Have I spoken incorrectly? O Jehovah God,
- 10:56let the soul of this child return to his body. Lord, Lord,
- 11:05hear my prayer."
- 11:18The miracle came quietly like that. There was no particular explanation.
- 11:24There was only the sound of the voice starting again. [Music]
- 11:34"Oh my, this is unbelievable.
- 11:39Look. Your son is alive."
- 11:46Now, now I understand. You are truly a man of God.
- 11:52I know that the words the LORD speaks through you are truly truthful.
- 11:59I, too, realized today.
- 12:07That God is not merely one who speaks, but one who endures with us [music].
- 12:12Instead of being a man who performed miracles in this house, he became a [music] man who would remain in memory
- 12:17.
- 12:22In the third year of the drought, the rain still did not come.
- 12:28Many people were suffering.
- 12:33Elijah hears the voice of God again. "
- 12:38Elijah, go and meet Ahab. I will soon bring blood upon the ground.
- 12:45" "Do you really have to go?" "It seems the time has come for God
- 12:49to call me out again."
- 12:55The path to approach the king once more. Before he decided to take that path,
- 13:00many events had already taken place in Northern Israel. King Ahab was searching everywhere to capture Elijah
- 13:06. Queen Jezebel was also seeking out and slaughtering the prophets of the Lord
- 13:10. At that time, Obadiah, the chief minister,
- 13:17hid the prophets in a cave and protected them by supplying them with bread and water.
- 13:21Obadiah was a man who deeply feared the Lord God. After that, the situation
- 13:26worsened, and King Ahab
- 13:32set out personally with Obadiah to find water in order to save even the last remaining livestock. The two
- 13:37scattered in different directions. And on that desolate road, Elijah
- 13:41comes face to face with Obadiah.
- 13:45"Aren't you Master Elijah?"
- 13:49"Yes, I am. You have been well during this difficult time. Now that we have met, I make this request right away."
- 13:57"Go quickly and tell your king that I, Elijah, am here."
- 14:03"Sir, that request is too difficult for me to grant.
- 14:08The king has already searched everywhere for you. If I go and
- 14:14tell him that you are here, and you disappear again, I
- 14:20will [music] lose my life immediately.
- 14:26I swear by the living Lord of Hosts whom I serve that I will surely meet you today."
- 14:32The meeting between the king and the prophet finally takes place. Ahab, the king of Northern Israel,
- 14:38hears the long-awaited news and rushes to the location where Elijah is. "
- 14:43Elijah, I have finally found you. You are the one who troubles this nation of Israel." "
- 14:50It is not I who trouble Israel, but you and your family who
- 14:56are trouble this nation. This is because you have ignored all the commands of the Lord and
- 15:04served idols like Baal. Now, send someone to gather all the children of Israel
- 15:12to Mount Carmel. Also, gather
- 15:19the 450 prophets of Baal and 400 prophets of Asherah
- 15:24who are paid by Jezebel ." "Fine, do as you please." "You are bringing yourself
- 15:32before the gates of death." Just as the prophet Elijah had said, King Ahabu
- 15:38summoned all the people of Israel and gathered hundreds of
- 15:44prophets of Baal and Asherah on Mount Carmel. "
- 15:49Children of Israel gathered here, how long
- 15:55will you hesitate with one foot in each hand? If Jehovah is God,
- 16:01follow Him; if Baal is God, follow Him.
- 16:07Now I am the only prophet of Jehovah left. Yet
- 16:15there are as many as 450 prophets of Baal. Come, let us do this. Bring us two oxen
- 16:23. When each of us slaughters an ox on our respective altar and
- 16:30calls upon the name of that god, let us determine which god responds to the call.
- 16:39" The stage for the greatest showdown in the history of Northern Israel was set.
- 16:43Was the real difference in the numbers? Or in the loudness of the cries? Who, indeed, would be the winner of this contest
- 16:50? Now it was the turn of Heaven to answer.
