1. 0:00Two final notes that you need to know about the
2. 0:03absolute basics of TouchDesigner are related to keyboard shortcuts
3. 0:06and this trips up a lot of new users
4. 0:09So the first is that keyboard shortcuts only work
5. 0:12while your mouse is inside of the network editor
6. 0:15So what do I mean by that
7. 0:16So let's take a look at two keyboard shortcuts we looked at already
8. 0:19If I hit I and I have this Geo one selected
9. 0:23I'll go inside of it
10. 0:24If I hit U
11. 0:25I go back up a level
12. 0:27Now that's working like I said
13. 0:28because my mouse is inside the network editor
14. 0:30But what if I move my mouse over the timeline and I hit I
15. 0:35U
16. 0:36You can see no matter what I'm doing
17. 0:38none of these keyboard shortcuts are working
18. 0:40because my mouse is outside of the network editor
19. 0:43And this is the same
20. 0:44you know I can take it to the top over here
21. 0:45start hitting I or U
22. 0:46move it around
23. 0:47hitting I or U
24. 0:48But once I kinda bring it into that network editor
25. 0:52all of a sudden it starts working
26. 0:54So that's an important thing
27. 0:55because you don't wanna have your mouse like hanging around somewhere
28. 0:58and you're trying to hit your keyboard shortcuts
29. 1:00and you're struggling to figure out why those keyboard shortcuts aren't working
30. 1:04The same thing can be said about Caps Lock
31. 1:06which also trips up a lot of new users
32. 1:09is that if accidentally your Caps Lock gets turned on
33. 1:11this actually changes many of the keyboard shortcuts to be variations of them
34. 1:18But also for some of the basic ones that we use
35. 1:20they stop working completely
36. 1:21So for example
37. 1:22I just turned Caps Lock off
38. 1:24so if I hit I and U
39. 1:26everything works as expected
40. 1:28If I turn Caps Lock back on and I hit I and U
41. 1:31even though my mouse is inside of this network
42. 1:35it's not doing anything until I turn Caps Lock back off
43. 1:38and my kind of functionality returns back to normal
44. 1:41For ninety percent of your keyboard shortcuts
45. 1:44you're gonna want Caps Lock off
46. 1:45There's a few that you know
47. 1:47we're not even gonna look at in this one'cause they're really more advanced
48. 1:49but it's just something you need to be aware of
