  1. 0:14Today, O brothers, I want to make clear an idea, I want
  2. 0:20to now dig in and establish, because we are practical people. We
  3. 0:24are practical people, we want people to apply, we want Muslims who will actually
  4. 0:32implement. Therefore, today I want to focus on the idea and set it out,
  5. 0:39and turn it into something that can be benefited from. Today, if a person
  6. 0:44is hungry and you brought him meat, vegetables, rice, and a roasted lamb,
  7. 0:50and so on and so forth, but you did not enable him to eat it, you did not
  8. 0:55present it to him, did not bring him the plates, did not cook it for him,
  9. 0:59...he will not benefit. Therefore, let's make the title of
  10. 1:04our gathering tonight, "The Way to Benefit from this Sunnah." Then suddenly,
  11. 1:11the surprise, O Muslim brothers in the easts of the earth and its wests,
  12. 1:15who love the religion and want to adhere to it, then the surprise is
  13. 1:20that all of this which I have mentioned about the way of the Prophet
  14. 1:25(PBUH), all of these splendors, all of these
  15. 1:30details, this whole wonderful, amazing way of the Prophet
  16. 1:35(PBUH), it was possible that it
  17. 1:40would have produced no result and no effect, and become
  18. 1:44completely useless. In fact, it might lead to the disbelief
  19. 1:50of people if the recipient did not have the qualities of reception,
  20. 1:58the proper one. Meaning, the point is not only that the Messenger of Allah is a person
  21. 2:03who is great (PBUH), nor that he has
  22. 2:07a great ability for eloquence, for influencing, and for stirring
  23. 2:12people's emotions with him and people's love for him..
  24. 2:16It is the one who receives who's going to be important too. Why? Because Islam told us that...
  25. 2:23I have a TV station, huh, I'll run it 24 hours and bring
  26. 2:27directors and cameramen, and bring people to talk, and people to act, and people
  27. 2:31to give sermons, and people to present news bulletins... But the device,
  28. 2:37the television in your house is broken, out of order. What have we benefited
  29. 2:42now from the Nilesat and Arabsat satellites? What have we benefited from the
  30. 2:48channels? What have we benefited from the efforts of tens of thousands of workers
  31. 2:52in media if the device you receive on
  32. 2:56is broken and out of order? You turn it on and you find it dark and dim.
  33. 3:00You'll say, "By Allah, so today all media channels have stopped."
  34. 3:03No, they are working, but it is you who does not receive and
  35. 3:06does not accept. The Quran said this in clear verses,
  36. 3:12but the problem is that we read these verses, and we cry and are moved,
  37. 3:18and our hearts soften and yield, but in truth, we do not pay
  38. 3:23real attention to them in terms of comprehension and benefit. And so the Quran tells you—
  39. 3:29rather, it does not tell you, it tells the Prophet
  40. 3:32(PBUH). It says to him, meaning, "O Muhammad,
  41. 3:35O this great, magnificent Prophet, capable of calling to faith,
  42. 3:40the pure, the chaste... It tells him that some of these
  43. 3:46disbelievers, " you see them looking at you, while they do not see." Yes,
  44. 3:55the Quran says this! It says, "And you see them looking at you, while they
  45. 4:00do not see." And it says about hearing, which is
  46. 4:06supposed to be the path to understanding guidance, the hearing by which one receives
  47. 4:13what is with Allah (SWT), He says,
  48. 4:16Allah, the Blessed and Exalted, says: "And be not like those who say, 'We hear,'
  49. 4:22while they do not hear." Goodness. So if "you see them looking
  50. 4:27at you while they do not see," and "be not like those who said,
  51. 4:31'We hear,' while they do not hear," then their faculties are disabled. And Allah (SWT) says
  52. 4:37about understanding, awareness, and comprehension—the conscious ability
  53. 4:42in a person—He says: "And among them are those who listen to you, but We have placed
  54. 4:48over their hearts coverings lest they should understand it..." The heart itself... and they said,
  55. 4:54"Our hearts are wrapped." Our hearts are in a covering, they do not hear, do not
  56. 5:00understand, do not comprehend. So then, the fact that the Messenger
  57. 5:04(PBUH) has an influential appearance, yet they do not see; his words are
  58. 5:08influential, yet they do not hear; his logic is strong, yet they do not
  59. 5:12understand. So tell me, how are they supposed to understand? And Allah (SWT) says
  60. 5:17in verses that gather this concept, Allah, the Almighty
  61. 5:24and Majestic, says: "And We have certainly created"—dhara'na means created—"We have certainly created for Hell
  62. 5:29many of the jinn and mankind. They have hearts with which they do not understand,
  63. 5:35and they have eyes with which they do not see, and they have ears
  64. 5:41with which they do not hear." What is their use? What is the use of the ears,
  65. 5:46the eyes, and the hearts? He said: "Those are like cattle." They are beasts. No,
  66. 5:52no, no, the beasts are a degree higher than them. "Rather, they
  67. 5:55are more astray." He (SWT) says: "Those are like livestock; rather, they are more astray."
  68. 6:01More astray than the beast. And the Quran calls them by the names of beasts. It says,
  69. 6:06"Like the one who shouts to that which hears nothing but a call
  70. 6:11and a cry." You find a beast, you whistle to it like this, "Come here,
  71. 6:14the food has arrived." It does not know what you are saying, but it has
  72. 6:18memorized this gesture you make with your hand and this sound
  73. 6:21that you make and this vessel that you carry, so it comes to eat.
  74. 6:25"Shouting to that which hears nothing but a call and a cry," so it comes.
  75. 6:32Therefore, these types, O brothers, O Muslims, of
  76. 6:36human beings are types that do not comprehend, do not hear, do not see.
  77. 6:41So what is the use of the Prophet's magnificence? That is why, in the heritage of
  78. 6:46our religion, there were prophets who called, and no one
  79. 6:50ever responded to them. And there were prophets who
  80. 6:54lived a long life among people, and only one man responded to him.
  81. 6:59The Prophet (PBUH) says this. He says: "A Prophet will come
  82. 7:02...the Prophet (PBUH) will come... a Prophet will come on the Day of
  83. 7:04Resurrection with only one man with him. And a Prophet will come on the Day of
  84. 7:09Resurrection with only two men with him. And a Prophet will come on the Day of
  85. 7:14Resurrection with only a 'raht' (a small group)." In fact,
  86. 7:18even Noah (PBUH), who lived among his people for a thousand years less
  87. 7:22fifty years, calling them... all he obtained was a load
  88. 7:28for a boat. A boat's load, a number of individuals, maybe they were
  89. 7:32nine, maybe thirteen, according to what has been said
  90. 7:35in the narrations. Good heavens! Nine hundred and fifty years! The fault
  91. 7:41is not in the prophethoods, but the fault is in the reception of this
  92. 7:45call. That is why I have always told my brothers that the excellent
  93. 7:52model for you to understand this is the model of our master, or...
  94. 7:59before I say this, I tell you that, therefore,
  95. 8:04as an application to the Prophet (PBUH), the Messenger himself,
  96. 8:07(PBUH), his call led to people disbelieving in it
  97. 8:16His call is what led to people disbelieving.. Yes. And the Holy Quran said it.
  98. 8:21The Holy Quran mentioned that Muhammad (PBUH),
  99. 8:24this magnificent, great, beloved, pure, beautiful one who lowers
  100. 8:30his wing to the believers.. people met him with..to the extent that one
  101. 8:36said to him, after he later converted to Islam,
  102. 8:40"By Allah, you were the most hated thing to me." There was
  103. 8:44nothing I hated more on the face of the whole earth.
  104. 8:48I hated you so much. Does anyone believe this? We
  105. 8:54today talk about Muhammad and the beauty of Muhammad (PBUH),
  106. 8:57and how people received him, and the person who could not resist the charm
  107. 9:02of his beauty... and may brother Essam from Faisal and the brothers forgive me, I want
  108. 9:07to bring you closer to an image. We today live by the
  109. 9:11poet of the rababa. The rababa poet, and I really like that they
  110. 9:16say, "The most beautiful poetry is its most untruthful." When you lie in poetry,
  111. 9:23the poetry becomes very beautiful. Meaning, he tells you that
  112. 9:25a certain enchanting woman walked out on the street and people fell
  113. 9:29to the right and left, and some were driven to
  114. 9:33madness. And of course, that never happened. Just one woman
  115. 9:36left her house, went to cross the street to buy something
  116. 9:40or visit a neighbor or something, and suddenly "creation collapsed and swayed,
  117. 9:44and hearts were intoxicated..."(all of it exaggerated) So they say, "The most beautiful poetry is its most untruthful."
  118. 9:50People then took this saying and applied it to our master Muhammad
  119. 9:54(PBUH) and said that as soon as a
  120. 9:57disbeliever among them saw Muhammad (PBUH), he would fall
  121. 10:00in love with him and fall to the ground. So our concepts have been changed as a community
  122. 10:05of Muslims in the current century and current era, they became wrong, so that
  123. 10:10we don't understand that the call to faith is a struggle, hardship,
  124. 10:13and effort, and people refuse and people turn away, to the extent that our Lord
  125. 10:18says to the Messenger (PBUH), "Then perhaps you will kill yourself
  126. 10:24if they do not become believers." You will destroy yourself, get sick and destroy
  127. 10:29yourself because they are not believers. "Then perhaps you would kill yourself over
  128. 10:34their footsteps, if they do not believe" in this message, out of sorrow, from
  129. 10:36the intensity of his grief. And He says to him, as He speaks about the way of
  130. 10:42the Prophet (PBUH), as He sees him, He said to him,
  131. 10:44Rest assured, my beloved, "for they do not belie you." They do not
  132. 10:49believe you are a liar; they understand that you are truthful. "But
  133. 10:53it is the verses of Allah that the wrongdoers reject." The point is, O brothers,
  134. 10:58is that people saw Muhammad and said to him, "You are a liar."
  135. 11:03They saw him, they laid eyes on him, and said, "You are a madman." They saw him and said,
  136. 11:08"You are a poet." They saw him and said—on the contrary,
  137. 11:12even more—"a soothsayer, a magician, a liar, a madman, and a poet,"
  138. 11:17and "Only a human teaches him." And all this while looking at him
  139. 11:22with sarcasm, "What is this? What is this? Did Allah not find
  140. 11:28anyone other than you to send to us?" Wow, to this degree
  141. 11:34of belittlement? Is this not Muhammad (PBUH)
  142. 11:38who, a little while ago, two or three hours ago, a couple of
  143. 11:42days ago in Jahiliyyah, was the one you loved and revered,
  144. 11:46and you did not find—look now—you did not find anyone else
  145. 11:51at all to judge fairly between you in the incident of the Black Stone?
  146. 11:55There was no one else, no one who was able to
  147. 11:58judge in it. And today you come and say, "Did Allah not find
  148. 12:01anyone other than you?" Did you yourselves not find anyone other than him? If
  149. 12:05you had found someone more distinguished to resort to,
  150. 12:09so if you had given him all this status
  151. 12:13before, and today Allah gave him the status of prophethood, you say, "Did
  152. 12:17Allah not find anyone other than you?" And they look at him with disdain, this
  153. 12:21beautiful, noble one, this one of high lineage, this truthful, trustworthy one.
  154. 12:27This, this, all the qualities that I mentioned to you
  155. 12:31before. Yet the disbelievers look at him like this and say,
  156. 12:35"Is this the one whom Allah has sent as a human messenger?" Is this him?
  157. 12:40Oh God, to this degree, they belittle
  158. 12:46him and say, "Why was this Quran not sent down to a great man
  159. 12:50from the two cities?" Oh people!? You used to exalt
  160. 12:53this person before and see him as having all the status! what happened now?
  161. 12:57The hearts rusted, the ability to receive
  162. 13:02and accept is disabled. The television is broken, the radio is broken, there is no
  163. 13:09transmission, we don't know, the satellite dish cable is disconnected. So
  164. 13:15let them talk about satellites all they want, nothing
  165. 13:18will reach you. That is why the people's stance toward the Prophet (PBUH)
  166. 13:23was like that. And by the way, the disbelievers, while saying this,
  167. 13:28see the qualities of perfection in him and reject him. They see qualities
  168. 13:34of perfection in him and reject him, to the point that one of them looks at
  169. 13:39the Prophet (PBUH)... that's it, he is the Messenger
  170. 13:41(PBUH), he is the one who brought them the truth, and they say this
  171. 13:45is just "ears." What does "ears" mean? They say, "He is an ear."
  172. 13:50"And among them are men who hurt the Prophet (Muhammad SAW) and say: 'He is (lending his) ear (to every news).' " He just sits
  173. 13:55and listens. But who said that he only listens and conveys?
  174. 13:59So Allah (SWT) said: "Say: "He listens to what is best for you; he believes in Allah;
  175. 14:04has faith in the believers; and is a mercy to those of you who believe." Meaning, not an ear
  176. 14:11that you hear like the man who is the 'muballigh' (announcer) in
  177. 14:15the prayer. The Imam says, "Allah hears him who praises Him," and the announcer says,
  178. 14:19"Our Lord, and to You is the praise." That is an announcer.
  179. 14:25The Imam says, "Allahu Akbar... As-salamu alaykum wa rahmatullah..."
  180. 14:32No, the Prophet is an ear that comprehends the truth and delivers it as a mercy to the believers.
  181. 14:39"He listens to what is best for you; he believes in Allah; has faith in the believers;"
  182. 14:43has faith in them in a way that takes them from the darkness of ignorance to the light
  183. 14:48of Islam. And among them also were those who said—so that you know, people—
  184. 14:54that it's not just seeing the Prophet (PBUH)
  185. 14:56that solves the problem. This is the talk of the current age
  186. 15:00that has made us failures, not knowing how to fulfill the duty of da'wah
  187. 15:04properly, and thinking that da'wah means supplicating at night, "O Allah,
  188. 15:08guide my people," and working by day, and presenting logic. We have started living
  189. 15:13like the storytellers of Abu Zayd al-Hilali and Zanati Khalifa,
  190. 15:16who sit in cafes and entertain people, and that's it. So they say, "And when
  191. 15:21it is said to them..." The Quran says, "And when it is said to them, 'Come,
  192. 15:25the Messenger of Allah will ask forgiveness for you.'" Wow, imagine
  193. 15:31that Allah... that someone said to you, "Come, the Messenger of Allah will ask forgiveness
  194. 15:34for you." The Prophet (PBUH) will say,
  195. 15:38"O Allah, forgive your servant, so-and-so," by name, "and your female servant, so-and-so,"
  196. 15:43by name. "Come, the Messenger of Allah will ask forgiveness for you." They "turned
  197. 15:49their heads aside, and you see them turning away while they are arrogant." He doesn't know where to put
  198. 15:53his face, sitting there twisting his neck. My God, isn't this
  199. 15:57the Messenger, people, the one you love? Isn't this the Messenger
  200. 16:00we sing about? Ah, so it is not just that
  201. 16:04this is the Messenger, and that he has a message, and that he is trustworthy,
  202. 16:08and that he is truthful, beautiful, pure, and the best of
  203. 16:13the best, and so on and so on... This does not mean
  204. 16:17that people will respond. Rather, there must be a method of reception.
  205. 16:22Therefore, I was gathering for you, O brothers, some matters,
  206. 16:27for example, about the Jews, that "they know him as they know
  207. 16:34their own sons." Yes, indeed. And that is why it is narrated about two of the scholars,
  208. 16:39two of the scholars saw the Prophet (PBUH)
  209. 16:42and one of them said to his companion, "is it him?" He said,
  210. 16:48"Yes, it's him." He said to him, "So, what are we going to do?"
  211. 16:56He said, "His enmity as long as we live." Glory be to Allah! And that is why,
  212. 17:02O brothers, the excellent example—and please pay close attention to it—
  213. 17:07is the one that introduces us and teaches us this matter, which is the example of
  214. 17:13the conversion of our master Umar ibn al-Khattab. Our master Umar ibn
  215. 17:17al-Khattab heard the Quran, heard the call, once, twice, and three times,
  216. 17:25and four times.. Each time he would turn away and be violent towards the Muslims,
  217. 17:29wanting to take up his weapon and kill, wanting to finish off
  218. 17:34Islam. It is the same Umar, and they are the same verses of
  219. 17:40the Quran, and it is the same call, until an incident occurred
  220. 17:44that removed from Umar's heart the matter of rejection, which is
  221. 17:51the method of reception, the method of acceptance. So when it was removed, what was it?
  222. 17:56It was that he slapped his sister a hard slap on her face, and she fell
  223. 18:01to the ground with blood flowing from her face. And he saw his sister,
  224. 18:05the weak one. Our master Umar was very tall, large-bodied,
  225. 18:10and strong. And when you saw him sitting, it was as if he were standing among the people.
  226. 18:16He was fair and reddish, tall, and his voice was booming... So when
  227. 18:25he struck his sister on her cheek and blood flowed from it, his tyranny
  228. 18:31was somewhat dissolved, meaning, it was undone. He saw her in this
  229. 18:36state, so the energy of tyranny left him when he saw her, and it was replaced
  230. 18:43by a degree of compassion and mercy. So, with the departure of this
  231. 18:48arrogance... when he saw... the Quran then encountered,
  232. 18:53at that moment, a heart whose method of receiving
  233. 18:59the Quran had changed. So when he heard the verses from the beginning of Surah Taha,
  234. 19:03he submitted. He submitted instantly due to his method of reception. And the amazing thing, my
  235. 19:10beloved brothers, is that the Quran says about this: "And among them
  236. 19:15are those who..." "And when a surah is revealed, some of them say, 'Which of you
  237. 19:21has this increased in faith?'" So Allah (SWT) says that the same
  238. 19:25surah, "As for those who believed, it increased them in faith. But as for those
  239. 19:30in whose hearts is a disease"—a disease, their hearts are sick— the verse increased them...
  240. 19:38Who is it that "it increased them"? What increased them? The verse of
  241. 19:41Allah! "it increased them in filth upon their filth, and they died while they were disbelievers."
  242. 19:47It increased them in filth. Does the Quran increase filth? Is there anyone in
  243. 19:53the world who says that the Quran increases filth and impurity? Yes,
  244. 19:59because in their hearts is a disease. Because today, when
  245. 20:03a person is given honey to drink, and he says, "Wow, why is it so bitter?"
  246. 20:08This is because he is sick; his mouth has a disease. "The eye may deny
  247. 20:13the eye may deny the light of the sun due to ophthalmia, and
  248. 20:19the mouth may deny the taste of honey due to a disease," or something
  249. 20:23of that sort. So the issue, then, is an issue of reception.
  250. 20:27The serious thing about the matter, and I hope this is clear,
  251. 20:31is that everything I have mentioned is about the polytheists. The serious
  252. 20:36thing about the matter is the Muslims themselves. Aren't you a Muslim, and I am
  253. 20:42a Muslim? O Allah, Ameen, Lord of the worlds. Alright, what do you think
  254. 20:47about the fact that Muslims themselves were exposed to trials and slips that could have
  255. 20:56taken them from Islam, leading them very far away,
  256. 21:02very far away, because of their method of receiving from the Messenger
  257. 21:08(PBUH)? And this is a danger for me and for you. For example,
  258. 21:13the Prophet (PBUH) was among the Muslims, calling them,
  259. 21:20and telling them things. What do you think, that some of them, while
  260. 21:26listening to Muhammad (PBUH), the Prophet, rejected
  261. 21:30his words? They were headed for disaster because of this. And I,
  262. 21:35by the way, am telling you this to make you afraid,
  263. 21:37O brothers, for yourselves, and to make myself afraid for myself.
  264. 21:40We must be afraid. Our way of receiving the Sunnah is what
  265. 21:45brings us out of darkness into light, not just the words of
  266. 21:50Allah and the words of the Messenger (PBUH) while our way of
  267. 21:53receiving the Sunnah is corrupt. We must understand this very well.
  268. 21:59Among the Muslims were people who saw the Sunnah and knew it, but decided that it
  269. 22:05was not enough or sufficient, and decided to go beyond it. Don't
  270. 22:11you know the incident where some people went to the Prophet's
  271. 22:15house (PBUH)? Not 'tawaf' as in circumambulation,
  272. 22:17no, meaning they went to him and asked about his worship. And when
  273. 22:22they were told about it, how he worships Allah, it was as if they deemed it too little.
  274. 22:28They considered it small and said, "No, this means that this Messenger
  275. 22:32is not enough, because his past sins
  276. 22:37and future ones have been forgiven, and he does not need to worship Allah.
  277. 22:40But as for us, we will do something different. We
  278. 22:43will bring something new. We will innovate a way that we think will get us there.
  279. 22:49I will do this," and the second said, "I will do that," and the third said, "I
  280. 22:52will do that." And the innovation started early. So what did
  281. 22:58the Prophet (PBUH) say to them? He told them... it reached
  282. 23:01the point where he said to them, "Whoever turns away from
  283. 23:03my Sunnah is not of me." The one who does not listen to my words and respond
  284. 23:08and follow exactly as I say is not of me.
  285. 23:11A man came to him and said, "O Messenger of Allah, I
  286. 23:14want to fast a lot." He told him, "Alright, fast three days
  287. 23:17a month." He said, "No, I mean, better than that."
  288. 23:20"I am capable of more than this." He told him,
  289. 23:23"Alright, Mondays and Thursdays." He said, "No, no, I am capable of
  290. 23:25better than that." He told him, "Alright, fast one day and do not fast
  291. 23:29the next day." He said, "No, I am capable of better than that."
  292. 23:31He told him, "No, there is nothing better than that." So he stopped him there.
  293. 23:35... In fact, there was a righteous woman
  294. 23:40who rejected the words of the Prophet (PBUH). The Prophet (PBUH) had,
  295. 23:46before the prohibition of adoption, Zayd, whose name was Zayd ibn
  296. 23:50Muhammad, who is Zayd ibn Harithah. So when adoption was prohibited,
  297. 23:56he became Zayd ibn Harithah. And Zayd's son
  298. 23:59was named Usama. So, by the old standards, before the prohibition of adoption,
  299. 24:04it would have been Usama ibn Zayd ibn
  300. 24:08Muhammad, meaning, as if he were the grandson of the Prophet ﷺ. So when he came
  301. 24:11to get married, when the time came for him to marry, the Prophet (PBUH) chose for him
  302. 24:16a wife of high lineage, noble and from the great ladies of Quraysh.
  303. 24:21Not old in age, she was a young girl,
  304. 24:25but in terms of lineage, ancestry, and status, she was of great standing.
  305. 24:30And Zayd, who is Usama's father, the groom's father, was
  306. 24:34an owned slave, bought and sold, less than a servant, meaning
  307. 24:37something for money. "Give me two Zayds,
  308. 24:40Take Zayd. give me Bilal, take this..." Meaning,
  309. 24:43he was a commodity. So when he proposed, Zaynab refused. Zaynab bint
  310. 24:49Jahsh refused. She said, "No, I will not marry someone who was
  311. 24:53a slave, ever." And the one telling her to do this
  312. 24:58was the Prophet (PBUH). She told him, "No, I will not do it." Perhaps
  313. 25:02she said it politely, maybe, but in the end,
  314. 25:05it was a 'no.' So the Quran was revealed from above the seven heavens, as if
  315. 25:09the world had collapsed: No! "It is not for a believing man or a believing woman,
  316. 25:14when Allah and His Messenger have decided a matter, that they should have
  317. 25:17any choice in their matter." But I am telling you how there were
  318. 25:20Muslims who were being difficult, so that you don't think... and like today,
  319. 25:26when you see Muslims, you turn on the TV or look at the press and find
  320. 25:32people talking about the Prophet (PBUH) as if he were
  321. 25:35an author of a book, and we are discussing the book to see if it's good
  322. 25:38or bad. They do not look at him as a Prophet,
  323. 25:43they look at him as some blessing. Yes, blessed and peace be upon him,
  324. 25:46but without commitment. This exists to this day. And they do not see
  325. 25:52him as having this status. A companion came... "What is your name,
  326. 25:55my dear?" "My name is Hazn." Hazn, wow. 'Al-Huzunah' means
  327. 26:03extreme difficulty. So difficult. Hazn means someone difficult,
  328. 26:07terrible. It's like naming someone today, "What is your name,
  329. 26:10my dear?" "My name is Awful," "My name is Terrible," "My name is..."
  330. 26:16"What's your name?" "My name is Hazn (Rough/Sad)." He told him, "No, you
  331. 26:18are Sahl (Easy), Insha'Allah. We will call you Sahl." So look at the companion,
  332. 26:23I am talking to you about a Muslim companion, but the companions,
  333. 26:26as I told you, before they moved from darkness
  334. 26:29to light, they took a long time. These incidents...
  335. 26:32they were being cultivated, corrected, and adjusted. And here he is, a companion and a Muslim,
  336. 26:39and in front of the Messenger of Allah (PBUH), he says
  337. 26:44to him, "I'm sorry, but I would not change a name my father
  338. 26:48gave me." My brother, the Prophet is telling you....
  339. 26:53No even if he tells me... he tells me any name, and I say no?
  340. 26:57I won't change a name my father raised me with, my father named me... How can you say
  341. 27:01"my father"? So he refused. This companion says, after
  342. 27:06the light of faith shone in his heart and he was raised and taught, he says,
  343. 27:11"By Allah, we continued to see the 'huzunah' (difficulty) in our descendants,"
  344. 27:18meaning our children became difficult because we rejected the blessing of the Messenger of
  345. 27:22Allah (PBUH)." I do not want
  346. 27:25to elaborate on this, O brothers, but I want
  347. 27:28to tell you that Zaynab bint Jahsh refused, the one who
  348. 27:31refused to be called by a name his father did not give him
  349. 27:36refused... these are the Companions. Ubayy ibn Ka'b, the best reciter of the
  350. 27:39Quran. Ubayy ibn Ka'b, he is a companion, he is the best reciter
  351. 27:44of the Quran in the Ummah, the best reciter among Muslims, the best reciter among the Companions. On
  352. 27:49one day, while he was hearing words from the Messenger
  353. 27:53(PBUH)—and this is in an authentic hadith—
  354. 27:57and if not for the lack of time, I would tell you in detail, but he heard
  355. 28:00words from the Messenger (PBUH) and looked at
  356. 28:05the Messenger (PBUH) stunned and alarmed, and his chest
  357. 28:11was filled with doubt and suspicion, even though he was a Muslim companion hearing from
  358. 28:20the Messenger of Allah. So the Messenger (PBUH) wiped
  359. 28:25his chest and prayed for him for certainty, and for the coolness of faith and certainty, and said
  360. 28:32to him, "May knowledge be a pleasure for you, O Abu al-Mundhir,"
  361. 28:35May the knowledge be comfortable to you , O Abu al-Mundhir, and wiped his chest to remove this
  362. 28:45doubt. But the point is that he was a companion. I will tell you,
  363. 28:49by the way, don't be impatient
  364. 28:52I will tell you how a person can receive revelation and benefit from it,
  365. 28:56Insha'Allah. And I will tell you how a person can benefit
  366. 29:01from revelation in a way that moves him from darkness to light. But
  367. 29:05first I am putting it to you like a riddle. My Lord, what
  368. 29:08made Ubayy have such a stance? And besides Ubayy,
  369. 29:16besides Ubayy, there were companions... during the Isra and Mi'raj (Night Journey and Ascension),
  370. 29:19weren't there people who were companions and Muslims and they apostatized? Yes,
  371. 29:24they apostatized. And it is as if the preachers and Muslims are embarrassed, shy, and ashamed to say
  372. 29:31such things. And this is what happens. Have you heard this
  373. 29:34before? And those who have heard it, heard it once or
  374. 29:37something. We are ashamed to tell Muslims that there were people,
  375. 29:41Muslims and companions, who apostatized. No, I insist on conveying
  376. 29:44this and that people know it, so that you know Islam in
  377. 29:48its reality. We treat Islam as if it were
  378. 29:52a song with which we want to influence people. We want
  379. 29:55to understand the religion because we are the ones who will carry it on our shoulders
  380. 29:58if we are truthful. This matter... isn't this
  381. 30:01the hadith of the Prophet (PBUH)? "This matter
  382. 30:04cannot be upheld except by one who
  383. 30:08has encompassed it from all its sides." The one who understands it very well
  384. 30:11is the only one who can raise Islam. That is why
  385. 30:14the Jews are striking at Islam, the Americans are striking at
  386. 30:17Islam, the Russians are striking at Islam... everywhere
  387. 30:21in the world is striking at Islam because the Muslims don't
  388. 30:23know how to carry it. They don't know how to carry the religion of our Lord (SWT).
  389. 30:26But I want you to understand that during the Isra
  390. 30:30and Mi'raj, there were people who, until the day before, had been Muslims for ten
  391. 30:35or eleven years. They heard that the Messenger (PBUH)
  392. 30:40went from Makkah to Al-Quds, to Jerusalem, and then...
  393. 30:49in colloquial terms, and I ask Allah the Great for forgiveness for this, but
  394. 30:53I want to bring you closer to what was in their minds...
  395. 30:55and then he quickly went up to the seven heavens and went
  396. 30:58above them until he passed and reached the Lote Tree of the Utmost Boundary, and near it
  397. 31:02is the Throne, and near it is the Garden of Abode. He arrived, and then he came down again
  398. 31:05and returned. So they disbelieved after their Islam. They disbelieved, they apostatized, O people.
  399. 31:11They apostatized. And there were those who did not apostatize but doubted. And among
  400. 31:19them was one who was called the "Master of the Wabar," a large
  401. 31:23tribe. The Master of the Wabar doubted, finding it unbelievable. And some of them apostatized
  402. 31:28with his tribe. And we are ashamed to say this because we
  403. 31:31want an Islam where "whoever knew Muhammad would never belie him."
  404. 31:36No, my dear, understand the religion, because what I
  405. 31:39am going to say today, Insha'Allah, if I have enough
  406. 31:42time, is a matter for you to know that we cannot
  407. 31:46benefit from the Sunnah or from Islam, nor can we
  408. 31:50emerge from darkness to light, nor from ignorance
  409. 31:52to Islam, unless we know the method. And the method has seven
  410. 31:56points, which I will list exclusively: one, two, three, four, five,
  411. 32:00six, seven, Insha'Allah. Seven points that must
  412. 32:04be present in every Muslim for him to emerge from the Age of Ignorance
  413. 32:08to Islam, and from darkness to light. But as a principle,
  414. 32:13know this, that there were those who doubted, and there were
  415. 32:16those who were suspicious—meaning they felt doubt and suspicion—and there were those who
  416. 32:21apostatized. More than that, there was a Muslim companion who was harmed
  417. 32:31for the sake of Allah. He was beaten and tortured, and he was patient, and he was patient and steadfast
  418. 32:39for so long. Then, because he loved his religion, he left his city, migrated, and left
  419. 32:45his wealth and his family, and left everything to preserve his Islam.
  420. 32:49Wonderful, Masha'Allah. And he migrated to Abyssinia
  421. 32:52with whom? He migrated to Abyssinia with a group that
  422. 32:56included Ja'far, the cousin of the Prophet (PBUH),
  423. 32:58Ja'far ibn Abi Talib, and it included Umm Salamah,
  424. 33:04whom the Prophet (PBUH) later married,
  425. 33:07and it included... and then he was patient and everything. And when
  426. 33:12he went there, what happened? He apostatized from Islam, left
  427. 33:16Islam completely. He apostatized, yes. And he died as an apostate. And he died
  428. 33:22believing that the Prophet (PBUH) was a liar. And his name was—
  429. 33:30so you can differentiate between the noble companion, my master Abdullah
  430. 33:36ibn Jahsh, and his brother Ubaydullah ibn
  431. 33:39Jahsh. This Ubaydullah ibn Jahsh apostatized, and the Messenger
  432. 33:44(PBUH) married his wife after he died. He died
  433. 33:48because she was there... her husband apostatized and left
  434. 33:52Islam and left her stranded while she was in torment
  435. 33:56or while she was, you know, a stranger and so on.
  436. 34:01Oh my goodness. Well, we are not paying attention
  437. 34:04to this at all. What is this, brothers? All of these
  438. 34:08knew the Messenger. That's why I told you the phrase, "If
  439. 34:13they knew him, they would not have insulted him." I, from what I know, am
  440. 34:18not convinced by it, because among them were those who knew him as
  441. 34:21they know their own sons. And I told you the story of Abu Jahl
  442. 34:25when he recognized the Prophet (PBUH) and decided on his enmity.
  443. 34:28So what, then, is required? Alright, what is required is that
  444. 34:34the recipient possesses the qualities of proper reception. That you, sir,
  445. 34:39O respected one, O brother, possess within you
  446. 34:45the qualities with which to receive the revelation of Allah (SWT).
  447. 34:50So what are these qualities?
